What's left at Lucketts…

Day one at Lucketts was a crazy blur!  We have tons of pictures and I’ll tell you all about it, but I am totally whipped tonight, so I’ll keep this short and sweet.

I had plenty of time this year to get the booth set up exactly as I wanted.

When the gates were opened, our booth was mobbed!  It was mahem and the ironstone was flying.  I was smiling at the women with armloads of ironstone, passing pitchers and tureens to my “guys” to hold for them while they scooped up more.

We sold so much stuff that I was starting to wonder if I would have anything left at the end of the day, but I do!  Since there is a day two of Lucketts, I thought I would share some of the big pieces that are left…

The Eulalie’s Sky cabinet didn’t sell!  I couldn’t believe it, since it’s such a pretty piece.  I think people were more preoccupied with the ironstone and didn’t even notice it.

All of the French chairs sold, except the green velvet chairs – 4 of them for $150/each.  (That’s why I redo all of my pieces.  If these were in grain sacks, they would’ve sold!)

…the blue empire dresser (another one I can’t believe!)…

…the Tricycle dresser

…and a light gray French highboy dresser that I didn’t get a picture of!  We also have a four tiered shoe rack, the dress form, a bit of ironstone, a few scales, a typewriter, cameras, a primitive bench, t-shirts, books, a sweet mirrored medicine cabinet and more.  I don’t like taking too much home with me, so prices will be slashed and I’ll take just about any reasonable offer.

Sundays are usually laid back and, after two beautiful days, the ground should be dryer and parking should be much easier.  The muddy fields caused quite the back-up on Rt. 15 today, but we all go through it.

Each dawn is a new beginning.

Absolutely.

Hope to see you Sunday!

PS – We think someone left a sweet ironstone tureen at our wrapping station this morning (Saturday.)  Please check your packages to make sure you have everything you paid for and let me know if that’s yours.  I’d be happy to send it to you!

  1. The dress form??? What dress form?? The one that you had in your own home??? Oh if it is and it doesn’t sell, how much please????

  2. If you don’t sell the dress form, I am interested. Would come to get it, just can’t make it to Luckett’s this year.

  3. FWIW, my. Mom and a oogled over the tricycle dresser for a long time! We just couldn’t figure how we’d get it 1.5 mi down route 15 to the car. Hoping to recreate the look with some MMSMP. Now, just need to find a supplier in Richmond, VA!

  4. I also can’t believe that fab cabinet in Eulalie’s Sky didn’t sell! Crazy. I have to admit, I’m not surprised about the dresser in Tricycle though. I also have a really gorgeous empire style dresser painted in Tricycle that is just not moving. I don’t think too many are decorating with red at the moment. At least that is what I keep telling myself.

  5. If you do not sell all the preserved boxwoods, I would love to buy some. Please let me know and I would purchase several—–any size! Thanks

  6. the only thing I would have *really* wanted at Luckett’s was to meet you, Marian! hopefully next year I can go when I have some time off (just started a new job a few months ago)

  7. I am surprised you are left with those pieces, I think the red one would look perfect in a boys room. Looks like you had a terrific first day!

  8. I can’t believe the Eulalie’s sky cabinet didn’t sell. If you end up bringing it home with you, I think I’ll drive down to PA to buy it. And I think the tricycle dresser would be amazing in a boy’s room.

I wish we had a fair like Luckett’s here in Maine. I’ve thought about starting something, but I just don’t even know where to begin.

  9. So good to finally meet you Marian. The last 2 times I was at the market I was short on time and you would be surrounded by a sea of people. So never got the chance to come and say Hi. This year I was like, whatever happens I was gonna tell you how much I love your blog. 🙂 I got brave enough to try re-upholstering chairs only after reading your posts.Thank you!

  10. You were practically sold out of your ironstone by the time I got there but that was to be expected since I wasn’t one of the “early birds”. I did enjoy stopping by and saying hello and talking to your Mom at the checkout.

Needless to say, the parking was less than ideal today due to muddy conditions. After the main parking fields were closed, we like many others, were forced to park on the side of busy Rt. 15 and hike back over a mile to the show. That might have been the reason I saw so many big pieces that hadn’t sold today. It would have been a nightmare managing it back safety to your vehicle. I can tell you it was a great day for all the tow operators that had to pull so many stuck vehicles out of the mud.

    1. Teresa, DH and I were thinking the same thing. By the time we actually arrived at the market (90 minutes of sitting in traffic plus a looong hike in), most of the ironstone was gone and we were wondering how furniture was selling given the distance so many buyers had to make it in on foot. The traffic was truly awful and DH was ready to turn around, but I told him we hadn’t driven 3 hours just to change our minds:)

Marian, I almost said hello but you were so very busy! Your booth looked fantastic and it was one of my two very favorites there (Ekster was the other). The weather was glorious, and the turnout was impressive. It was really fun to see your pieces IRL that we’ve all admired on the blog. Hope you’re having as much fun today!

    2. Eliza…. my hubby was ready to turn around too and make the drive back home once he saw all the traffic!! I think after yesterday, it will be a while before I mention going to Lucketts again to him.

  11. I have been wishing I could find some green french provincial chairs like yours since the first time I saw them on your blog. They would be PERFECT in my living room as is. Maybe if the stars align I will find some in my area.

  12. I couldn’t wait to read this post. I enjoy your blog and will be taking your online business class, too. If you don’t sell the shoe rack i would be interseted in having it shipped. I’m hoping it’s the one I saw in a picture of your living room. The shelves were different than any other ones I have ever seen.
I have a rug hooking studio and I would love to fill it with wool.

  13. I’m having my coffee now and heading out the door in 2 hrs. to drive to Luckett’s with my 12 year old daughter! I wish I could have made it yesterday, even just to see your space fully stocked! I know there will still be some lovely treasures left and maybe it will be easier to say hi to you today if it truly is less crowded. I’m thinking maybe I should leave earlier so we don’t have to park on Rt. 15 and walk a mile! Hopefully, fewer crowds and drier fields will allow us to get on the main lot! So glad you are having so much success, Marian! How exciting!

  14. Sorry I missed this event to far! 🙁 I did a dresser in Tricycle red and it sold the day I put it in the shop!! So hang in there it will sell!! 😀

  15. Okay, here’s what I said to my husband: ‘Can we jump in the car please and drive to the Lucketts market? It’s only an 11 hour drive if we don’t stop and we might still make it before closing time cause I need to go and buy that Eulalie Sky Cabinet… :-)’ Sadly, it’s not gonna happen.

  16. I’ve recently started following your blog. Congrats on such a successful day at the market.
You are very inspiring to follow. I leave about 20 minutes away from Montreal Canada on the south shore unfortunately we don’t have anything like Luckett in the area. Keep up the good work and you look great. Thanks Carol

  17. What an exciting day! So many happy people getting great deals. I am in Maine and I wish we had more opportunities for flea markets!! The season is just begging here so I hope to get out there and grab some new-one-of-a-kind pieces 🙂

  18. It was great to meet you and your wonderful family! I was lucky enough to be one of the “early birds” and picked up some of your beautiful Ironstone pieces to add to my collection. I also made some new kindred spirit friends. It was just a lovely day all the way around!
In all the fun mayhem, the saucer to my $12 handle less cup got left behind. Please let me know if you spot it. If not, my cup will also be saucer-less, but I’ll love it just the same.

  19. You should post anything that doesn’t sell on your online shop. If it’s too big to ship I know some of us would be willing to drive and pick it up if the price is right…me being one of those:)

  20. Good afternoon!

Would you be interested in coming back to Virginia in September? I own The Miller House in Stephens City and my parents store, valley Furniture Country Interiors is next door. We have been in business 43 years. We are located about 40 minutes West of Leesburg. Every year , we host a Harvest Faire and we invite artists and antique dealers to our show. Its free admission with food and bluegrass music. Please contact me if you would be interested.

  21. Sounds like it was a success!!!
If the green chairs are not sold I’m still interested in buying at leat 2 of
    Them .

  22. Oh, did that cute chalkboard and easel sell (first picture on this post). We are looking for one like this!!! Also you had a blue box that the needlepoint picture was setting on. Let me know thanks

  23. I didn’t really get to speak to you since it was busy yesterday, but I got to talk to your sweet Mom. I got to Lucketts just after 10am Saturday, and most of the Ironstone was gone, but it was still super fun to see your pieces IRL. I second what people were saying about parking though- I ended up hauling several window frames over a mile to my car 🙁 People were having a hard time even just trying to drive up to the market to pick things up!

  24. I am sure pretty much everything sold out by the end of the show, Marian, and some people got really good deals on the second day. All of the bigger pieces that were left over after the first day look great, and I am sure that – if they didn’t find customers at Lucketts, they will find them pretty soon after you get back home.

  25. i too love that dress form….i actually make jewelry, customized pieces as well…here in long bch. ,ca. ….. we love our dogs…i do custom pet jewery…my thing~~ dress form displays… thanx! what is the price????

  26. My husband and I were at Lucketts on Friday. We were on a trip from Virginia and we just couldn’t make it on Saturday. We saw all the busy bees setting up and would have loved to have come the next day but just couldn’t work it out. Maybe some other time.

  27. Marian, It was so much fun to meet you briefly Sat. morning, after learning so much from your blog for the last 3-4 years. I am starting 2 MMS Milk Paint projects tomorrow!! Your Mom was so cute to chat with at checkout, and she is very proud of you. Thank you so much for the Frog Tape and the MMS tee-shirt. Hope to see you again at another event, but in the meantime, I’ll “see” you on the blog!

  28. I so wanted the Eulaies Sky cabinet but it was just a bit too big for my space. My husband said if I really wanted it to get it but I had to be reasonable. Your booth was amazing though. Next year maybe Lucketts could provide more helping hands to carry larger items to cars. The poor boy I flagged down said there were only 4 of them and I was a long way off of getting any help. Anyway I picked up some amazing stuff and can’t wait til next year. Heading home Monday morning….6.5 hour drive…worth it!

  29. Marian,
I was so excited to finally meet the woman who has inspired a revolution in my house and you didn’t disappoint! In all the mayhem Saturday morning you still had time to sign my book and chat with me about favorite projects. You (and your whole family) are as personable and down to earth in real life as you are in your blog. So glad to finally meet you and thank you for showing me that with a little faith you really CAN move mountains!

    Susan

  30. Hey Marion,
I think the piece of ironstone that was left behind was mine!! My husband and I were enjoying talking to you dad and he asked if I had anything else and I said no. However, I do not have my receipt. I somehow didn’t make it home with it, but as I unpacked my goodies yesterday I realized I had left it. It is a medium sized casserole looking dish with lid. I think you did post a picture. If I have to have my receipt that’s ok, but I am pretty sure it is mine. Please send me a email to let me know. Thanks so much!!

  31. Marian, please thank your father for the outstanding job he did wrapping all of the breakables. He did an amazing job and was so patience. I know you were tired but I can imagine how tired your father was from all of the wrapping and packaging things up.

It was another great trip to Lucketts. I posted earlier but I do believe that the reason a lot of furniture didn’t sell the first day for you and many of the other vendors was what other’s indicated with the parking situation. When my mother and I left around 3 p.m., cars were backed up for miles trying to get there to Lucketts. I believe the mud situation and fields being closed on Saturday was the issue as well. Hoping that Sunday was much better for all the vendors and successful.

Your booth was amazing! I came back three times only to see different stuff each time back visiting your booth. Of course, I bought a few more things and enjoyed talking with you. A wonderful day and trip!

  32. Hi Marion.

Not sure if I’m the only one, but I’d love to know how much you ask for some of your pieces.

  33. Where can I find the pattern for the cross stitch you have in the photo above? “Each dawn is a new beginning”. I love it!! Are you selling the pattern for this?

    Much Thanks,
    Michele
