New Society6 Papers, Prints & More

Surface design is something I’ve played with on and off for a few years and this year, I decided to lean into that interest and create some new patterns for wrapping papers as well as other available products on Society6.  While only one is specifically designed for Winter/Christmas, I feel like these designs work well year-round, including for Christmas.  (Products are up to 50% off at Society6 for their Black Friday event.) I love Society6’s wrapping paper.  It comes in five sheets that are generously-sized, so they will cover most mid-sized and small gifts.  The paper is thick, but not too thick, has a matte finish, and a grid on the back so you can make straight cuts.  I only wish you could also order it on rolls for larger presents, but it is very high quality and definitely a favorite. I’m so excited about the polka-dots (in green &

miss mustard seed tees & hoodies

Do you remember Miss Mustard Seed tees and hoodies?  We’re going almost ten years back when I used to sell in retail spaces, at markets, and regularly added products to an online store.  I loved designing and wearing my own tees and hoodies, and they were my uniform for many years.  I finally let go of my last paint-splattered, faded sweatshirt a couple of years ago.  I’ve wanted to relaunch tees and hoodies for years, but I always get hung up on keeping the stock and physically packing and shipping each order.  Well, I’m happy to share that we (my assistant, Heidi, and I) have designed a new round of tees and hoodies AND found a way to sell them, so you can order exactly what you want without me having to ship each piece!  (Although I still have my custom-made t-shirt sign because I loved it so much.) Society6 prints & paper sale

For those interested in prints, wrapping papers, and cards, I added a few new designs to my Society6 shop and most of my products are currently 50% off! One of my newest prints is this pair of rabbits… I didn’t add any new paper designs this year (time got away from me), but papers I designed in previous seasons are still available and are on sale for $10, which is 60% off the regular price.  You can find all of my wrapping paper designs HERE.  Society6 wrapping papers come in packs of five 20″ x 29″ sheets and are the perfect weight for wrapping presents or even using for craft projects and handmade gifts.  It’s thick so it doesn’t tear easily and isn’t see-through, but it’s not so thick that it won’t hold a nice fold. I hope to add some more patterns this year.  I really love pattern design,

Kitchin Sketchbook Wrapping Paper

In April of 2021, I went out on a limb and purchased something that spoke to me in a way that sticks out in all of my years of buying and selling antiques.  It was a lot of four antique sketchbooks from the late 1800s to early 1900s by architect and artist George Herbert Kitchin.  I bought them from my (now) dear friend, Julia Butler of Ponder & Purchase.  You can read more about them HERE. I wasn’t sure exactly what I would do with them, but I knew the possibilities were endless.  Aside from my own study and enjoyment of them, it would be fun to share the sketches with others in prints, patterns, and anything my brain can think up. These sketchbooks have led to all sorts of surprising places.  I’ve heard from some of George Herbert Kitchin’s extended family, from an author who has written books about

miss mustard seed wrapping paper

Launching Miss Mustard Seed wrapping paper all started with some lino block cutting during the Thanksgiving break.  I created a pattern I really loved and others loved, too, so I decided it was time to stop putting “make patterns for paper and fabric” on my to-do list and actually do it.  Not just doodle and fiddle, but make it digital, upload it, and sell it. This wrapping paper journey actually started over six years ago when I met with the then-owner of a quilting fabric company about creating a line.  I had never done patterns before, but I felt like it was in me.  I could see it in my head and I just needed to learn how to get that into a format I could communicate with others.  I developed two lines and the whole experience ended up being a dud.  I mean, I learned a ton and worked

lino printed wrapping paper project | christmas crafts

Over the Thanksgiving break, I worked on cutting out a lino block for printing wrapping paper and cards.  The project turned out even better than I expected and, as I shared peeks of the process on Instagram, many people asked if I would share a tutorial.  So, this post is it!  Here is a lino printed wrapping paper project for beginners.  We’ll walk through the materials you’ll need, the process of carving a “lino” (linoleum) block, and printing. | The pattern that I carved over Thanksgiving took me several hours, so we’ll use a simpler pattern for this lino printed wrapping paper project. Before we get to the details, I will share the process of how I made this one for those who are interested.  The process is very similar, but I used some different materials.  Instead of using an easy-cut “lino” block made of a rubbery material, I used

creating a book cover | feels like home

If you missed it, I have a that is all about customizing your house (or apartment, condo, townhouse) so that it feels like home.  I would definitely consider writing a book a labor of love, but this book wasn’t a slog or a tiring push to the finish line.  It wasn’t, as they say,  like “cutting myself open to let the words bleed out.”  It did demand a lot of me, but it came easily and I thoroughly enjoyed the work and the process. I overshot my word target by a mile and we had more pictures than we had room for!  In my creative joy, I was able to produce an overabundance of what we needed and I hope the result is a book that is enjoyed by many. One of the places where I got a little stuck, though, was shooting the cover of the book.  I wasn’t

pear platter, prints, & tips on licensing artwork

When I first started painting, I wasn’t planning on selling my original works or prints.  I just didn’t think my work would be “good enough.”  I figured it was something I would do for my own enjoyment, as a side hobby.  Well, if you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know I have a knack for weaving just about any creative endeavor into my business in some form or fashion.  It is a trait that has allowed me to pursue things I’m curious about and include them as a productive part of my day.  Painting has become another part of my business and I’m excited to share that some of my prints and products are hitting the market!  I also wanted to share some tips on licensing for those who are curious about the process or interested in licensing their own artwork. The tricky thing about licensing your
