I haven't shared this little guy on the grid, yet, I haven't shared this little guy on the grid, yet, so here you go! One thing I worked on during my no-spend/organizing month in February was to complete more painting commission requests. A commercial client requested a cow "portrait." This one ended up being a little too hairy, so I'm going to do another one, but the original will be for sale and I'll sell prints on Society6. On the blog today, I'm sharing a full recap of my no-spend February - the spending exceptions I made, what I bought when the month was over, and what I learned. (Link in profile.) Painting is an original oil on 8x10 oil-primed linen panel. #oilpainting #cowpainting #cow #cowportrait #originaloilpainting #missmustardseed #inspiration #comissions #painting #art #fineart #neverstoplearning

Instead of organizing strictly by color, I took the advice of seasoned "yarn collectors" and organized by weight. I can't tell you how much easier it is for me to know what I have to work with! I do have a lot of swatches to knit, but that's a good task for when we're watching TV in the evenings. I share more of the process on the blog today (and the comments are great!). Despite my early frustrations that involved a lot of unraveling, I am getting the hang of knitting and I am really enjoying it!  I find it's a nice way to be productive while I'm watching TV in the evenings with Jeff and the boys. There’s a lot of gear and little bits that come along with this new hobby, though, so here is how I’m keeping it organized (although the yarn collection has gotten away from me a bit!) #knitting #blueandwhite #organization #yarn #missmustardseed #inspiration #knittingsocks #neverstoplearning

I love that art can be anything. There are very f I love that art can be anything. There are very few limits when it comes to hanging something on a wall, so why not take the opportunity to make a statement, tell a story, share some history, or display talents? It doesn't have to be a print or painting, but can be anything you can figure out how to hang on a wall! I just love that the possibilities are endless. In this case, I mounted an antique baby dress on a remnant of linen in a $40 store-bought frame that was just deep enough to act as a shadow box. (Wall color is Stonington Gray by Benjamin Moore.) #missmustardseed #inspiration #art #artwork #decorating #decoratingtips #decor #antiques #blueandwhite #wallart #walldecor #decoratingideas #interiors #feelslikehome
Over the weekend, I took some time to work on a fe Over the weekend, I took some time to work on a few acrylic landscapes for a commission client. She wanted land and a little bit of water, so this is what I came up with. These acrylic paintings always look like a mess when they start, but I (almost) always love how they turn out. I just keep tinkering and building layers until I like the result. I finish with a few scribbles of watercolor crayons to add some pops of brighter color and a little playful texture. Swipe right to see the 2nd video and finished paintings. (PS - I love watching the water swirl in my paint cup.) #painting #art #acrylicpainting #acryliclandscape #landscapepaintings #acrylicpaint #missmustardseed #inspiration #progressoverperfection
On the blog today, I'm sharing some of my favorite On the blog today, I'm sharing some of my favorites from January - things I enjoyed watching, listening to, wearing, and blog posts I enjoyed writing that you may have missed. One of my favorite posts was a round-up of home projects we completed in 2020. Painting the fireplace surround was an easy makeover, but it was one of my favorites and it has held up well through heavy use this winter! Here's a split-screen photo of how the room looked when we moved in vs. how it looks now.
