I did sell most of my furniture at Lucketts, but a few pieces didn’t sell. And that’s okay.
When I decided to sell the chair, I also decided that if the channel back chair didn’t sell the first day, it was coming home with me. I love it…
I also ended up bringing home the farm table. I was really shocked this piece didn’t sell and I was a bit bummed at first. I had no idea where I was going to put it. I thought it was going to be too big for my dining room, but, not having any other place to put it, that’s where it went. And it works!
I am going to paint the base, though, and maybe have my husband add a routed edge to soften it a bit. I’m not sure if it’s the table I want to keep forever and ever, but I do like it for now. The chairs, a Craigslist find I’ll tell you about soon, are also going to be stripped of that maroon paint and get a grain sack treatment on the seats.
And I also brought the small hutch/salesmen sample home. I didn’t think I had a good spot for it, but I set it on top of my desk in the family room and it’s perfect.

Sounds like you had a great sale. Wish I were closer so I could come! I loved the idea of writing about the history of a piece on the back of a drawer. What a treasure that would be to find something like that on something you purchased! Love all your ideas – makes me want to change things up a home!
My thoughts exactly, Rhonda!! Like I told someone else… I woke up at 3am with that idea and begged my husband to not let me forget! My shoppe is actually based on this concept. Each piece that I do gets a little ‘Love Tag’ slipped inside the upholstery that tells its story… that way if she ever get recovered again, someone will find a wonderful surprise!! I just never thought about having someone else do it for me!!! I would have kicked myself if I got home and then thought of it!! Whew!! It’s a treasure indeed!! For more reasons that one!!
Wait…did you really utter the words, “keep forever and ever?” I didn’t think that was in your vocabulary, lol. It’s hard to do that when you come across so many wonderful finds, isn’t it? And your house always looks wonderful and homey and comfortable no matter what you put in it. Can’t wait to see the dining room furniture after you Mustard-ize it. 🙂
What is the aqua paint in the last photo? I’m getting ready to do my bedroom and am looking at a pastel like that.
It’s actually a very pale blue called Glass Slipper by Benjamin Moore.
I love the little white hutch. Is it for sale?
I love the White Salesman Sample as well, I sent you a private FB message this morning about it. Time to have an auction for that adorable treasure.
Love the way the farm table looks. Awesome!
Love the channel chair. Glad you took it home!
I just love your style so much! I love how you hang plates, platters, bowls, etc on the wall. Can you tell me what you use to hang them or how you hang them? I have those plate hangers but you can see them so clearly when I hang something and they just don’t look very nice being able to see those. Can you share your secret or product that you use that makes it looks flawless? Please and thank you! (and I am aspiring to be like you and running a business like yours! You are my motivation 🙂 thank you)
Aw, thanks, Lisa! I I actually used those metal hangers on the lid and two larger platters. You can see them if you look carefully. On the others, I used the Command velcro strips. Those work really well as long as the plates aren’t too heavy and they’re simple to use.
Marian,
I can’t tell you how blessed I am to be a miss mustard seed milk paint retailer. We just finished up Brimfield Antique Shows and I met so many of your followers and sold a bit of milk paint too! Your followers are such a wonderful group of people and although they may forget me, they will not forget that I sell the best milk paint and supplies around, thanks to miss mustard seed!!!!
Hope I can get restocked on my website and at our shop before July!
Thanks Again,
Peggy

Love the salesman sample as well…is it for sale?
I’m just curious why you decided to sell your dining room table and chairs. It was so pretty and perfect with the blue buffet.
I didn’t like the fact that they were a set and they felt a little generic to me. I think the set is really pretty, but I wanted something a bit more eclectic and unique.
I don’t know how I missed that little hutch in your booth, I would have snatch that up also.
But it does look cute on your desk 🙂
It was great to see you again 🙂
Hopefully I’ll get the beloved highboy into his new home today,
Thanks for everything!
Take care
Yeah, a lot of people seemed to miss that piece!
I love love love that painting above the little white cupboard. Do you know who the artist is? I am a watercolor artist myself and I like to look at other’s work for inspiration. It goes perfectly in that spot.
That picture caught my eye, too. I want to go walking on that path…
Thirding here. Marian, where did you get that painting?! It’s perfect and gorgeous! Wondering if it’s another fabulous Cindy Austin painting? It looks like her style. So peaceful and bucolic. It must look amazing with the cow paintings you have!
Yes! It’s so beautiful, isn’t it? It is another painting by Cindy Austin, the artist who painted Eulalie for me. I have always loved paths through grassy fields. There was something hopeful about this painting to me. Like there’s something wonderful just over the rise at the end of the path…
Woohoo! Check me out knowin’ that painting is Cindy’s style! It’s lovely. I have a very large canvas she did of a gorgeous white horse, and I’m planning on getting one of sheep giglees. I’d love to have a giclee of that grassy field, it’s just so pretty and calming. Lovely!
I LOVE the little hutch! I recently purchased a salesman sample of a white dresser w/mirror.
I placed it on my bedroom dresser and it has to be one of my favorite pieces. Just last night the thought ran through my head that I was going to start a collection.
It just figures that this year we did not make it to Luckets or that piece would be in my house as piece #2. If you ever decide to part with it please give me a shout. Thanks!
Well, all I can say is that all of the stuff you brought home looks fabulous in your house. I’m really crushing on those dining room chairs… what a wonderful find! I would kill to find those bad boys…! Do you have some magic craigs list radar!??? I never see stuff that cute on there…! I can’t wait to see them all done with grain sack seats. The white in the channel back chair is really pretty in your living room too. The little meadow painting looks so good with everything in the room too, the touches of green in it are perfect… it tickles me to see it looking so sweet hanging there. That was one of my favorite paintings…
Cindy
sigh…. I wish I lived closer to you!! Love your home it is most beautiful and cozy!! Love that farm table looks like it was meant for your home!! The salemens sample is soooo cute to! Go ahead and ship to me 🙂
Hmmmm…the farm table looks really yucky in your kitchen…which is a good thing since it would look perfect in my dining room 🙂 see where I’m going with that?lol…seriously, it is a lovey piece…I’d love it!
Those pieces really were ‘meant to be’, as you put it…..hands down!! They look like they were meant to be in the spaces they are in now, so I am glad that MMS herself got to bring home some special pieces from Lucketts! And you KNOW the lady who did the awesome job on them!!!! Yay for YOU! 🙂 (even though it will prob say ‘ByrdsNest’ under my name, I never did anything with that…wish it would go away. But someday…..yessssss!)
Your home looks great with your leftovers added to them. I can’t wait to see what you do with the dining room chairs. I enjoyed shopping the Luckett’s show this past weekend. All of the booths are gorgeous! Thank you for signing books for my daughter and I. You are truly inspiring! Hopefully next year the weather will be perfect!
You certainly don’t have a problem reworking things back into your home! If you are still interested in selling the chair I have a few questions for you. Thanks!! 🙂
It’s funny how things work out. Love the table. 🙂
after reading all the comments, I love to go back and look at the posted pics. I always see things differently the second time. Pretty home. And channel back chair looks terrific. Can’t imagine how you figured that back out. Kudos.
Your farm table looks awesome!
everything looks like it was meant to be right where you’ve put it – cute stuff
Enjoyed meeting you at Lucketts, (and the tshirt is very comfortable)
Love all the color! And I like that your wall color is nuetral so the painted pieces really pop! I have a couple of pieces I wish my husband would let me paint but he likes “wood” so I do the opposite and use a lot of color on the walls. When my husband and I rebuilt our house, the electrician said I had been looking at too many decorating books. Every room is a different color.
You know, I do that too!!! When I have garage sales, I put out items that have “stipulations” or ones that I put a pretty price tag on knowing that it’s not gonna go and I’ll HAVE TO keep it…lol
I love all the things you brought home, be still my heart that lovely chair. I am happy the farm table works it is amazing!! Di@Cottage-wishes
I wish I lived closer, too, so could attend Luckett’s one of these days! But…you inspired me to go on a hunt for some ironstone this past weekend, during our famous Brimfield Antique Fair (a few towns away from me, but in MA). Along the way there, my friend and I spotted what looked like it would be a great barn sale, so we stopped. And, lo and behold, the first piece I saw was the ironstone pitcher I’d pictured in my mind…simple and perfect, it will be lovely holding a big bouquet of flowers, or some fresh lemonade this summer. I have a tiny house, so I’m hoping that this first piece won’t lead to an addiction for more! 😉
Marian, I have a brown velvet channel back chair sitting in my basement waiting for me to “mustard-ize” it. Do you think you will be posting a tutorial?
I can’t wait until you open your shop online! I would love to purchase a piece of furniture done by you! Do you think you will put furniture in your andship to US cities?
Yes, I will! 🙂
Love the chair that you brought home and the farm table is fab! Always enjoy reading your blog also:)
All so beautiful. But if it were me,I would center the white dresser under the long picture,(last picture) I just think it would look more symmetrical unless you are going for the unsymmetrical look. Just my jumble opinion…Renee
humble. sorry.
Looking again, it might just be the angle of the photo.
It’s ALL so beautiful. I think I’ll just move in. I do windows! Whadda you think???
The channel chair is awesome and that table… just a little dab of lemon oil or something of the sort to darken it up a tad and you’re good to go. Love it all !!
I love the minature buffet….I have always loved minature antique pieces. I have seen a lot but this is the first buffet or side board not sure which applies I have seen. And as always you have it displayed perfectly.
I would’ve bought that chair – I am in love with it! Looks great where you have it, but WOW…can’t believe it wasn’t snatched right up. Yes, some things are meant to be. Maybe it’s meant for you to foster it until I can get to you in some venue to buy it! 😉
Rita C.
I love the rug in the first photo! Can you tell me where you bought it? Of course I love all the rest too, but that rug is calling my name!
Oh I missed this green table…. I thought it was already sold….. BTW they are all beautiful Are you thinking about selling online?
Yes, I would definitely sell it. I think it’s a great table, but I know it’s not 100% right for my dining room. Let me know if you’re interested…
wow, I thought the items you brought were awesome and a perfect fit for your beautiful home!!!!!!!!!
The channel back chair is lovely! I have one and I have a great weakness for them. The farm house table is also very cool. For the lady asking about plate hangers; Hobby Lobby has these glue discs in the picture hanging department that are WONDERFUL! I even use them to hang tole trays. They can even be removed by soaking them in water, with no damage to the item. Awesome.I am too far away for Lucketts, and too far away for the Antiques Fair. However, I did enjoy the Highway 11 yard sale! Sometimes you just gotta make do! Glad you had a great weekend!
Oh I wish I could have come. I wanted that table the moment you said you brought home the base. Not sure if it was in my budget b/c I don’t know what you were selling it for. I am going to prepare for Lucketts 2014. You are such an inspiration.
I can’t believe I missed the little salesman hutch. I was so busy trying to find the stool that I never even noticed it. It looks perfect on top of your desk and I absolutely love the painting hanging above it. Lucketts was amazing and I feel so blessed that I was able to share the experience with my mother. You are such an inspiration and mom and I are already planning for Lucketts 2014.
My what a lovely painting you have about the little hutch. May I ask where you got that and who did it? Sorry if that is a repeat question! 🙂
I meant to write ABOVE, not about! 🙂
I so wish I lived close enough to come to Luckett’s. I love your channel back chair- those always catch my eye, but the thought of reupholstering one scares me away. Yours looks wonderful.
I have a pre-Civil War table that I’d like to sell–it’s just not going to fit in our new house. It’s got 2 drawers on the front where you can put napkins and utensils. It’s all original, but the legs are elongated a bit to fit our modern-day long legs.
Marian,
I, too, have a channel back chair that needs recovering. It was my grandparent’s and it is a 1940’s barrel-type chair. I really love it. My mother had it recovered in the 70’s with a fabric that I can only describe as burlap crossed with a brillo pad. Rust in color, too. Never soft and comfortable, but definitely durable. I need to recover it, but the channeling has paralyzed me into doing absolutely nothing. I can’t afford to pay to have it recovered and must do it myself if I want it done. A friend will help me with the seat cushion. I want to take it on, but feel so intimidated. Any hints on dealing with those channels?
Gratefully,
Jenny
If I lived in the US, I would buy the small hutch! It would look great in my home.
A client recently sent me a picture of a similar channel back chair she had pulled from her Mom’s basement to see if I thought we could reupholster it for her office. I hadn’t seen chairs like this in years and now they are popping up everywhere! We are going to do several different fabrics to give it a youthful update!
Marion, you have such a unique look. When I look threw magazines, there is not a look like yours. Yes, antiques ,shabby chic, country but not yours. Such a comforting look. MMS Furnishings!!!! at a store near you. Have a wonderful day.
I missed Lucketts this year (the first year in a LONG time), otherwise that little miniature sideboard-thing would be in MY house instead of yours. (If you have a change of heart and want to send it to a new owner, you know how to get hold of me. I can meet you in Lucketts to do the deal … having missed the Market over the weekend, I’m feeling a bit of Lucketts withdrawal coming on.)
What happy accidents – all of those pieces were meant to stay with you. They are lovely. You look dynamite in the little Lucketts shot of you. Your face and body have changed since i took your class in Roswell. You are inspiring!
Where is the picture from, of the grassy field and trees? Very pretty, it really stands out where you have it.
I just was typing in my question and realized that the previous person was asking the same. Where is the picture from above your desk? It is just lovely.
Thanks,
Leslie
I agree!
The dining table is wonderful. It’s so much more approachable than a formal table. I wish I had gone with something more casual for my formal dining room. But, we know how many dining room tables you’ve had, and this won’t be the last! 🙂 Variety is the spice of life!
Barbara
Boy I wish I could have made it to Luckets, I would have bought your farm table… ive been looking for one and I love it. Im trying to get my husband to build me one in between his projects :(… may have to rev up some power tools on my own and do it myself..
May I ask how much you were selling it for? (of coarse that will most likely depress me more. 🙂
Your new table looks amazing. I especially love that mini sample hutch! So darling, and it looks perfect on your desk.
Loved catching up on all the photos of your show. It’s been fun to see all the other bloggers documenting a fun weekend.
Get some rest- I also wanted to say you are looking great! I can tell that all of your hard work with exercise and food is paying off! 😉
Gorgeous, as always! What kind of flowers are on your dining room table? Thanks!
I can’t believe that little hutch didn’t sell…I would have been all over that piece, had I been fortunate to attend Luckett’s…it’s awesome!
I love a good farmhouse table! Looks like it was definitley meant to be in your home! All beautiful pieces!
Well, if I had been there and had the cash I would have totally bought that little hutch. It is so cute!
I love the table in your dr, AS IS. I think the current colour and top keep the room from feeling stale and matched. The green adds something indefinable. I guess it just make me happy looking at it.
The salesman sample is TOO cute. LOVE. Glad you kept it. Somethings are not easily replaceable. CTD
I too would love to know where you found the serene picture of the grassy field and trees. Love the table! I have one very similar but the base is painted white and chippy. One of my favs.
I absolutely love the painting of the cow over the buffet. Was it a rare find or a reproduction, if so, where can i get it?
