say “hello” to Layla’s Mint

It’s time to say “hello” to another one of our new colors in the MMS Milk Paint European color line!  You’ve already met Bergere and Arabesque and now here’s Layla’s Mint…

Yes.  It’s named after the Layla.  Lettered Cottage Layla.  It all started back in the summer when Layla sent me an e-mail, wanting a perfect minty green for a secretary in her house.  I tried a few different ratios and came up with a lovely minty green

Layla tweaked the recipe a little bit and painted the secretary, which looks so pretty in her space!

As I was collaborating with some of my retailers on the European color line, the request for Layla’s Mint kept coming up, so it became a no-brainer to add it in the line and, as a bonus, it already had a name!

The colors in the line all have warm undertones and the original Layla’s Mint was a little too cool to work with the other colors.  I went back to mixing to warm it up and make a it a little softer…

And there just happened to be a kid’s chair in the studio that was just begging for a soft, minty green…

  1. It’s so pretty against the grey door! Maybe this is a silly question that you’ve covered like a million times & I just missed but why is it called the European line? Is it just a name? To convey a feeling? I keep expecting you to finish the line and ship the whole thing overseas where it will be enjoyed by baguette eating, beret wearing french people.

    1. It actually is a line created for our European retailers, who found that some of the more saturated colors that do really well in the US, don’t do as well there. We were initially going to sell them exclusively in Europe, but the rest of the retailers wanted to carry them, too! A huge shipment is on its way to Belgium right now, though, so your expectation is correct!

  2. Did you use one of your expensive silver plated spoons to stir that gorgeous paint? lol I’ve been known to use good knives as screwdrivers, so I’m not one to talk! Really though, the paint color is very pretty and those pink flowers are perfect for the styling pics.

  3. I am SO excited for Layla’s mint. I have been waiting for this color ever since Layla painted that secretary! This will be my first project painting with milk paint and I have saved a buffet that I got off of craigslist for this color! Hurray!

  4. This is my favorite of the new European colors so far. Not much of a mint green fan, but this is so soft and sweet. I adore it. So glad you decided to market these beautiful colors to the good ol’e USA.

  5. What a soft-spoken color. I am glad I can now say I like the color mint! (The 80’s colors of mauve and mint are still haunting me from the past)

I have been following Layla’s blog for 6 years…you both do wonders for the eyes! Thanks for keeping me energized for new ideas and possibilities.

    1. I know what you mean about the 80’s mint- when it first started coming back I was sure I could not like it- but is has been growing on me. And this mint color is perfection!

  6. I love this mint and I LOVE Layla’s blog. I actually remember reading about you trying to mix this mint for her. So glad it is in the new collection 🙂

  7. I am considering buying some paint. I was reading the directions on mixing paint and found a small typo. Thought you would want to know. Looks like you are missing a word after “pour out paint into a wide mouth…”.

Love your blog!! Inspires me regularly.

  8. Ooooo , it’s pretty. Such a yummy soft mint. Iove the way you toned it down to keep it muted… I know there are a lot of people who are going to be happy you created this color!

  9. Love Layla’s Mint and love her blog!! I have 2 twin beds I’ve been wanting to paint, but haven’t found the right color just yet. Layla’s Mint might just be it!!!

  10. I’ve never liked mint green–on ANYTHING! But, THIS mint green I love! What’s different about it? I’m not sure. It’s neither blue nor green, but more of a neutral and I don’t see a trace of yellow in it. It’s REALLY beautiful and I can imagine using it in my house. Maybe I am just changing my color preferences or something, too. I’ve always loved decorating with white and this minty color is almost white, but white with a soft bit of personality! It actually reminds me of the little mint pillow candies that you serve for tea parties or buffets! Anyway, Bravo, MMS! Can’t wait for the other colors!

  11. I love love love this color!! It’s actually very close to the bedroom furniture I inherited from my grandmother that I used when we stayed with her. I looked for the color in the ASCP line to no avail! So happy you have this now! I love the chips on the chair as well.

  12. Can’t wait for this to color to be available in the US. I have a cabinet I display my tea cups in that would be PERFECT in this color

  13. Layla’s Mint is just nummy! It reminds me of sherbert, a cool breeze, and calm~
I love it! I just may have to find something to paint afterall : )

  14. Very pretty! Greens are my favorite especially mint!! Can’t wait to get my paws on this one. P.S. I love the original mint of Layla’s secretary too. You should think about offering the “cool” version here in the U.S.

  15. Your original line is absolutely beautiful and the combinations are endless. That being said, the colors revealed in your European line are the softest, warmest, must-come-live-at-my-house, yummiest yet. I’m so grateful you decided to give those of us with a preference for a softer color and warmer undertone access to your new colors. Bliss in a bag…
