We’re having a lot of visitors through the end of June and early July.  For those who are lovers of Civil War history, you know this is a key week in my neck of the woods.  It’s the 150th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg and today was the anniversary of Pickett’s Charge.  My dad went on a commemorative march across the same ground the Confederates (including a great, great, great grandfather) did 150 years ago.  There were thousands of people there – tourists, guides and reenactors and he said it was awesome.

Anyway, so one of those visitors was my aunt and uncle.  They wanted to visit, check out some of the events and pick up my old dining set, which she bought from me just before the Lucketts Antique Market.  She drove up to our house and I noticed she had a ton of stuff in her SUV.  My first thought was how in the world will we fit the dining room set in there with all of that other stuff?

My son was in the car with them and yelled out, “Mommy, we have lots of fabric for you!”

It took a second to register.  They have fabric for me?  Could that all be fabric?  Could it ALL be FOR ME?

Well, it was all fabric – 3 bins, 2 bags and about 30 rolls.  And it was all for me.  My Aunt Susan was hauling it up from my Aunt Karen, who had cleaned out her fabric stash.  She’s a very talented designer/decorator and has great taste.  She sent fabrics she thought I would like…lots of blues and reds and fabrics with French and European influences.

I sorted through everything and picked out my favorites…

One large scale blue & white plaid particularly caught my fancy, so I immediately hauled the bolt into the family room…

…and put my fabric swatch against it…

Awesome!

The bolt of my swatch fabric arrived today, too, so I am ready to do some sewing!

My aunts sure know how to make my day.

  7. I live on the West coast and have never been any farther East than a bit of Wisconsin. But my grown son was able to see Gettysburg recently while training at the National Fire Academy in MD. He was fascinated and moved by the history and landscape. I need to get back there someday!

And I, too, would like to be adopted by your Aunt Karen 🙂

  13. Wow, you lucky stinker, it all looks so incredible, You’ll be sewing things for things that don’t need it just to use the fabric and be able to see it in your home. I’m sure happy for you, that’s so loving to send you all that. Does your Aunt want anymore nieces? lol. Think I might be kinda old to be her niece. Hope you and family are having wonderful Jul 4th.

    Happy 4th July!

  17. Hi Gal, Thanks for the daily post, I enjoy it a lot. Just want to tell you how much I like the color combinations you choose. They are soft and peaceful. I loved the pale green/white chair and another piece…… Due to this, I’m rethinking my aqua plan. I’m thinking with so much of it lately on the internet I’m sure I’ve been somewhat brain washed. Just moved our RV on to a camp site and now am trying to redo the inside … Not that it needs it…. Orange is a lovely color for a rug………….wah……………….

  18. Ohh love love love the fabrics you have!! What an awesome Aunt you have! I have the same large scale red check that I used on the settee at the foot of my bed. I upholstered it probably 6 years ago now and have not tired of it yet!! 🙂 Looking forward to seeing what you do with your fabric!!

  19. Live the fabric! Was feeling jealous until the thought occurred to me: “How cool is it that The Lord provides, in ver practical ways, for what He’s called you to do!” Enjoy His expression of love and blessing!

  20. Wow,Marian, you lucky duck! How wonderful for you! I must say, my heart skipped a beat when I saw that bolt of red & white buffalo check. I have been searching unsuccessfully for fabric just like that for ages and would be very interested in purchasing it should you decide to part with it 🙂

  21. OH. MY. GOSH! I am so jealous….no, envious…..well neither of those attributes are Christian so I’ll have to search refine my vocabulary, I guess….in the meantime, just one question:

Does your aunt, with all the fabric, want to adopt a niece? I could make myself available…immediately…

  22. That would make my decade! My Grandma worked at Munsingwear for 20 years… a very LARGE fabric company that used to be here and when I was a kid she would carry home bags of fabric, lace, buttons, zippers, etc. every single day! I remember bolts and barrels and barrels full of goodies and it meant nothing to me then… sure wish I had all those treasures now!

  23. Ohhhhh… now i’m reading about the fabric. Is that other buffalo check red or rose colored. It’s so wooonderful, i just want to roll around in it! Perfect how the blue check/plaid matches your other fabric… what a treat getting those fabulous colors and choices delivered as a surprise!

    Cindy

  24. Ok I know this post was a long time ago now, but the buffalo check on the bolt that you are holding your swatch against? Is there any possible way you know the brand and color or band of it? It’s looks exactly like what I’ve been searching months for to finish my dining room! 🙂 if you know and can tell me, I’ll be forever grateful!
    Blessings.
