Some of the HGTV.com articles I wrote back when I was working on my kitchen and master bedroom are live now! Here they are…
Add architectural interest to a room with crown molding…
DIY Butcher Block Counter Top…

I was visiting the site to get the links for this post and saw this on their home page…
At first I thought, “Oh! I need to set up my DVR to record that!” Then, I noticed the thumbnails below. “Hey! That’s my bedroom! And THAT’S my bedroom, too!” I still dork out at stuff like that and I hope I always will. I even called my husband over to show him. “See, that’s Vern and Genevieve…and that’s ME!” Well, my bedroom, but still.
Anyway, I’ll let you know when others are available including the custom shams, French pleated drape tutorial, custom range hood…lots of good stuff. I also just turned in my Christmas projects including a vintage idea gift gallery…
…and the boxwood tutorials…
If you’d like to see more of my HGTV.com tutorials, check out my gallery page HERE. (It’s not a complete list, but I’ll update it soon.)
Have a great weekend!

Love your bedroom wall and ceiling, I don’t think I would be able to sleep gazing at that ceiling! Bedsides are pretty fabulous too. Alison x
PS – feels like we just had Christmas, next one already?
You should be so proud of yourself!
I just love your style. It is so well thought out, yet comfortable and cozy.
Oooooh! I’ve been waiting for that tutorial on the fabric walls…I love how yours turned out!! Thanks for putting this up. Your blog is such a wealth of diy information!
Hmmm…maybe it is a sign, Sure wuld be nice to see a designer on HGTV who works on a real world budget.
Totally pumped for this!!!! My boys have gone fishing, so I have the house to myself. How about a little project inspiration?!? Yes please!!!
So happy for you, so happy for us…you are a great teacher, thanks!
Can’t wait to watch!! So happy for you!
Love the fabric walls~does the starch leave residue or discoloration on the wall if you take the fabric off? So beautiful!!
Ten years ago, I did the starch fabric wall treatment in an apartment for my mother where the apartment manager was very strict about “messing up” walls. I covered the kitchen walls top to bottom with fabric, even the backsplash area over the sink. When she moved out almost 2 years later, the fabric walls still looked gorgeous and the apartment manager didn’t want me to pull off the fabric. Since I had only started to remove one strip, I left the rest of it alone, but could see that the wall behind the fabric looked fine. Probably would need a quick wiping down with a wet cloth to remove starch residue—but if I was going to paint, I’d just paint over it.
Thanks Debi!
Yea for you!! That is exciting! Thanks for the postings, I have a list of summer projects to start! Great style and taste!
Congrats! So exciting… enjoy! Have a great weekend!
Marian, aka Miss Mustard Seed, get ready to really “dork out” because I just KNOW you will soon be joining the ranks of David, Genevieve, Vern and Sabrina as a “reality” designer…you keep it real and doable! I’m staying tuned! Thank you for sharing your many talents!
Oh, goody! Tutorials are up! 🙂
I’ll be waiting for the rest of them with baited breath. I’m pretty sure I will use the bolster pillow one fairly soon but for the living room instead of the bedroom (already have a bolster pillow on my bed).
By the way, the link to your HGTV article gallery page in the post above didn’t seem to want to open.
What a coincidence! I was just looking at your blog earlier today for the tutorial for the nightstands. It was just meant to be that I checked my email!
I just love the bolster pillow. Exactly as it is. My first initial is A, my husbands’ is M. The initials are even on the correct sides of the pillow in regards to our sides of the bed where we sleep. Yes, please!! I’ll take “THAT” one. Haha. Just teasing. Love all of your stuff. Thanks for all that you do for us!! Yay for HGTV recognizing you!!
Congrats!
yay! Been waiting for these tutorials. Congrats.
You are such an inspiration – thanks for sharing – looking forward to more—savings for your window drapes from Josh and Main

OOOOH! I’ve been waiting for these! I’m really excited for the boxwood tutorial as well – I have a lot of boxwood in my backyard! I just love your style! Congratulations on joining the HGTV’s personalities!
I agree with what Katy above wrote….maybe the press is realizing that most of the world has a budget and we love our homes to be practical too. Your home is so beautiful! From you, I have learned, that you don’t have to spend a ton of money to have a fabulous home but also, sometimes quality might cost a little more, but the investment pays off in the end. Thank you, Marion, for always providing your home décor words of wisdom. Congratulations on the HGTV Gig!!. They are well earned accolades!!
Yay, Marian! So fun to see this.

Hi Marion, Love your bedroom wall… 2 quick questions…what kind of fabric did you use..was it a heavy linen or just plain cotton and secondly how would the starch wall paste hold up in a high humidity area. The reason I ask is because I live in Portugal and although we have very hot summers, when the sun goes down the temperature drops significantly and we get a lot of humidity, the winters are cold and very damp too you can feel it on the tiled floors. So I was wondering if the starch would hold the fabric up under those circumstances?
