Attic Find Revamped

My friend Maria from Dreamy Whites is having an amazing giveaway over at her place.  I know people are always posting about great giveaways, but this one really is incredible.  One lucky blogger will win a queen sized duvet designed by Annette Tatum.  Check it out!
I am so glad that the warmer weather is finally coming my way!  I am ready to hit some yard sales and paint some furniture.  I have a pile in my basement that’s been calling my name all winter.  I also have lots of pieces in my home that need a makeover.  When I was working on my sheet music dresser, I decided the treatment would also be perfect for a two tiered table I rescued from my grandparent’s attic.  It had some pretty significant water damage, so I needed something more than paint to make it look good.
I didn’t take a full before shot, but you can see the top of it in this picture.
I sanded it down and painted it in my favorite white – Creamy by Sherwin Williams.
I then used a vintage French Art Songs book to cover the tops of the table.  Due to the round shape of the table and the center piece I had to cut around on the bottom tier, I cut the sheet music and did a “dry fit” before applying the Mod Podge.
Once the Mod Podge was dry, I applied a coat of wipe-on poly to protect the table tops.
This table came from my grandparent’s attic, but it is not a sentimental piece.  I’m so glad, though, that I am able to save something that belonged to them and give it a new life.
It looks so perfect nestled between my piano and French settee.  After looking at these pictures, I’m really getting the itch to repaint my living room.  I love the peacock blue, but it’s feeling a little dark these days.  It just wouldn’t be a normal week in my household if I wasn’t painting something.

  1. It looks great! I love pieces that have a bit of a history. Even if it isn't a 'sentimental' piece, it is still from their home. I always say yes when I'm offered anything from people like that! I love a good yard sale find, but I love having pieces from the people I know.

  2. I'm sure your grandparents would be pleased that you rescued this piece of furniture and gave it a new life. It looks great.

  3. Hello Miss Mustard Seed. This is a great piece. Is it the same print you used on your SYTYCD dresser? I know you love the white painted pieces but how do you think it would look on a black table? I seem to be in my black period. The dogs just feel lucky I have not spray painted them all to match.
    Thanks for the inspiration.

I love the music sheets as part of your paper art to the presentation no the corner table…I have a friend who cut one down a bit and on big home parties she uses it as a severing table setting it up on top of a table filled with goodies.

I covered a small round end table with paper book pages painted trompe l'oiel birds with branch in the center and sold it at my shop it was an attention getter.

Come visit me over at my blog pan down and check out all my restyled paper book page art 🙂

    Love your inspiration.

  6. Fabulous makeover…love the table!! The vintage song book pages really sets it off!

And I agree with you about the blue…it does seem a little dark. But I don't envy you having to paint again.

  7. You really do have a way with furniture. And I am wondering what color you have in mind for the walls. Don't fight the inevitable 🙂 I remember you saying you thought the paint was ot dark in an earlier post. I do love the peacock color though.

  8. You gave me inspiration. I found old barn wood frames at an estate sale and I put old music pages in one. I'm having trouble making them stay so I will try what you did. I love the look. Check out my blog and see it.
    Have a great day!

  9. I absolutely fell in love with the first sheet music table you did…this one is beautiful as well! My mother has been a piano teacher for over 30 years…this idea is perfect for her. I'm going to make her one for her birthday! Thanks for the inspiration!

  17. Marian I have a similar table that I am currently working on (two tiers but has a hexagon top). I am sanding it down and just painting it. The finish is cracked so I am stripping it. It kills me to strip it only to paint it again but the finish needed to go. But I love this treatment. I have really busy chairs it is going next to (the reupholstered ones) so I think I needed to stick to a solid but I love yours. It is such a unique piece. Great job friend!
