SYTYCD – Week 5, Fabric

I am sharing this at the CSI Project Fabric Week.
“I am a girl who loves fabric.  I get giddy at a good remnant bin.  Don’t buy me flowers, get me a gift card to a fabric store.  I’ve spent many days and nights hunched over my sewing machine making things for my home out of fabric, but my most dramatic project is the half canopy I recently made for our master bedroom.
Here is a before picture and my inspiration picture from Country French magazine.
Our master bedroom has a terrible layout, so we decided to move our bed to a different wall and positioned the canopy to conceal an unused door.  I did all of the sewing and construction, but my dear husband installed it for me.  You can find a full tutorial here
The fabric was purchased on sale at Hobby Lobby and I just love the serene aqua and French toile pattern.   This canopy needed a ton of fabric, so the entire project ran about $100 and took around four hours to make and install. $100 is pretty expensive for one of my projects, but it was well worth it and looks like it cost a great deal more.

My tutorial on this project may make your head spin, but it’s really very simple. If you can sew in a straight line and use a staple gun, you can make this.”
The other ladies involved in SYTYCD are sooo talented and creative, so make sure you check them out and vote for your two favorites.

  1. FABULOUS entry! That bedroom is so amazing.

Love how you troubleshooted right clean through a strange layout. Sometimes difficulties lead us to great places. And that definately applies here.

  2. Oh my goodness I love it!! This is one fabulous entry!! Going over to vote! Good luck and have a fabulous week ~ Tina xx

  3. This is so utterly (is that the right word to put there?) lovely. Let me just say "amazingly lovely" instead. Actually I like "quintessentially lovely". OK. You got it!

I think this is when I first found you. Way back when…three or so months ago. I know you "say" it's not difficult. I'm going to believe you. But it's easy on the eyes. Man oh man, it's rich and warm and feminine and not too foo foo!

You are utterly, amazingly, and quintessentially talented. I'm totally a corn ball, I know!

But, for the life of me, I cannot just type -" Wow! It's beautiful!" And leave it at that! Sorry. Not.

  4. Oh My!!! That is so gorgeous . . . so regal. I'm in the planning stages of redoing our bedroom, and I'm so tired of the ordinary furniture, placement and layout of the room. This would really introduce a bit of "wow" to our room. Thanks so much for the inspiration!

I'm a HUGE fabric junky, too! I purchase waaayyy more than I ever use for projects. Sometimes it's just too purdee to cut in to!

  5. That is absolutely gorgeous! You always have the best ideas. In fact, I copied (highest form of flattery) one of your ideas in my blog today. Thanks for sharing your gifts! Linda

  6. What a beautiful bed! It looks so classy and like it cost way more than $100. absolutely stunning! Good luck this week and congrats on last weeks win, your dresser was so pretty. Thanks for more inspiration, I just love your blog! Theresa

  7. WOWSER!!!

I think you'll win this week again! I'm definetely voting for you! Wicked idea to hide the obsolete door! 🙂

    Hugs,

p.s. – gorgeous pillow and cat embellishments 😀

  8. you have so inspired me! did you make the paris pillow? every time i look at your blog i see something i missed the last time.

  9. Yes, I did. I hand painted it in acrylic paint on linen to make it look like a Restoration Hardware pillow I really liked, but it was $35.00. Mine was muuuuch cheaper.
