a preview & a new piece

I have been a painting fool the last few days.  Really ridiculous, but I’m excited at the direction my family room and kitchen are heading and the finish line is in site.  I’ll definitely share pictures soon.
Until then, here’s a sneak preview of the photo shoot I worked on today for Cottages and Bungalows magazine.  I think this was my favorite shoot, yet.

I also wanted to share one of my latest pieces I just dropped off at The Old Lucketts Store…

This French dresser/buffet is a gorgeous piece of furniture…probably one of the nicest pieces of furniture I’ve ever worked on.  The finish was a little rough, but that’s certainly something I can rectify.

I refinished the top and painted the base in a coat of Annie Sloan’s Paris Gray.

The hardware was perfect, so I left it as is.

They may be short and stubby, but she’s got some great legs.

Here are a few other pictures of some things in my booth at Lucketts…

Right now I’m sitting on my freshly wash slip covered sofa in my freshly painted room, looking at a cow that was painted just for me.
Sigh.

  3. Looking forward to your kitchen and living room reveals. I love the look of your booth…lots of great stuff. You have inspired me to have a sale of my own. I've been scooping up some great furniture finds lately and will be spending the next week painting away to get ready. Keep your fingers crossed for me that it goes well and people aren't expecting "yard sale prices." (What I'm worried about the most.)

  4. Oh you just took me down memory lane! That was my dresser as a child. I still have the mirror that went to it. I used it for my children too and then gave it back to my mom. I have always wanted to convert it to a vanity in my bathroom, such a beautiful piece! By the way mine has a peace sticker in the corner on the top added by mua, mom was not too happy with that one!

  5. You do such amazing work…and your photography is gorgeous! What an inspiration you are! I am sure looking forward to photos of your freshly painted rooms! And I think you've peaked everyone's interest with the mention of the cow!
    Best Wishes and Blessings,

  8. You make me want to run out and buy some of the Paris gray, I'm still crushing on it, but I promised myself no new projects till I get a couple of other ones done first. Your top photo is fab! It looks like s 'still life' with the center pair just dancing off the page. Hugs, Kim

  9. I have a Dixie dresser similar but with a formica top, I left white (can't paint it) and painted the dresser a very very pale lavender, looks white next to the same lavender walls. Haven't painter the feet yet, need coasters. How do you paint feet, on risers? And lastly should I sand around the edges like you did to reveal a gold?

  10. I admire your style so much! I can't wait to see your newly painted family room and kitchen!

  11. it is all amazing… and i am so happy to hear you are sitting for just a smidge to admire your cow! thank you for sharing all the photos. they really do speak to me.
    xow.

  12. I would LOVE to use the chalk paint on my kitchen cabinets! I am trying to redo my home in a vintage, rustic, cottage style. I have only lived in this home for 11 months (20 yr old custom built home) and it has those honey oak cabinets. I am envisioning creamy white rubbed/waxed cabinets, a farmhouse/apron sink, etc. But, alas, I have no idea how to do such a thing! Is it as easy as you make it look? HELP!! I just ordered one of Annie Sloans books from Amazon. Hoping it will help.
YOU ARE SUCH AN INSPIRATION!!! 🙂

    Blessings,

  13. Oh I love that dresser/buffet. I've always loved furniture in this style. Can't wait to see what how you redo my new to me kitchen *wink* lol Think when I come to visit you & Luckett's I'm just gonna move your house to Tx with me lol. Enjoy your Sunday & Happy Father's Day to the men in your life.

  14. OK-I know this is completely off subject, but forget the dresser (though lovely). Where did you find that antique bee hive?

  15. Man, I wish I lived closer! You really are my new inspiration place to go. Thank you for sharing all your great ideas.
By the way, I do not think I can wait to win the chalk paint give away, so I have to go purchase some right now!!!

  16. I just can't believe that your pictures are so good that you use them in a magazine! Great work as usual and I am waiting with much anticipation for a full Cow reveal. I just painted my first Annie Sloan project today. I tried the frame around the medicine cabinet. I only got paint on the window frame and the shower curtain. Since the only white I bought was the regular white, I tinted the paint with Bocour powdered paint. I didn't have any brown, so I used yellow, black and brick red. It turned it a light camel color, which is what I needed. I guess it will darken when I put the wax on. When you have a wet brush you don't want to stop, so I found a few other things to paint. Ann

As sure as there are any mistakes that could be made, I would do them. I only want to spruce up my home. Thanks so much for sharing the beauty of your work.

  20. the top of the buffet is beautiful. I love that you left it natural. Oh, are those vintage wooden weights? My oldest son is a strength and conditioning coach. I would love to purchase them. He wants to collect vintage weights. Are they for sale? I'm happy to hear you are resting and looking at your cow!Have a great rest of the day,Florida weather is beautiful ,beach day for sure.

  21. That photo shoot picture is beautiful. I love your work yet can't help but hope you take time to rest and refresh yourself. You are an inspiration to so many people and I appreciate all your hard work in sharing your talents with us.

  22. The Buffet is wonderful and I love the cream bedside table and the wire basket with the little terracotta pots and the miniature cloches……everything darn it. Why couldn't you be close to me? Keep up the good work. Thankyou for your recommendation to try Grainsack on Etsy in a previous post…most useful. Have a great week, love Linda x

  23. Wow, can't wait for the new issue of Cottages and Bungalows! How fun, the pics look gorgeous. I love that Buffet too, the finish was just yummy. Can't wait to see what you have been doing in your home. I feel like a sputtering engine of home projects here. Thanks for sharing as always!

  24. Sigh… YOu are just amazing! Now when I go to auctions & see an interesting piece, I ask myself…
"What would Miss Mustard Seed, do?"
You have inspired me and given me hope! 🙂

  25. OMGosh I wish I had your energy! Your pictures are amazing are you a professional or just gifted? You have inspired me to re-do a few of my pieces that were stored away & to start selling some in a local shop. I can't wait to see your kitchen re-do! Have a great week 🙂

  26. The dresser looks great! Love that paint color. I wish I lived closer so I could frequent the shop you're in. Those small planters in the carrying case are very cool. I could see painting those little pots and displaying them on my deck (with plants of course). I also love love love the fan. I'm into the vintage fans right now. That one looks like it might not be great for little fingers, but I have seen some that have more of a blade guard on the front. Can't wait to see your rooms finished (are we ever finished?).

  27. Oh my gosh I love that dresser…I'm currently on the search for one to refinish for my nursery!!! The provincial dressers are my FAVORITE! I just hope I can find one! 🙂

  28. Where can I see the pictures you are talking about? Also, is there a tutorial on chalk painting?
