Paint free before & after

You don’t always need to paint a piece of furniture…sometimes it just needs a little love. This chair was a $4.00 auction buy that looked like it had been stored in a shed or barn. It was rough and dirty, but you see what a pretty chair it could be.
So, I sanded it with a sanding sponge (wonderful product!) Now, I’ve always known that I have freakish joints in my fingers, but it was a riot trying to take a picture where my hand looked normal. It wasn’t possible, so I am resigned to the fact that I will never be a hand model.

And I wiped on some Minwax stain in dark walnut (my favorite.) One tip…always wear gloves when staining. Stain is really hard to wash out of the groves in your skin and your hands will look dirty for days if you don’t. Trust me. I then applied a coat of Minwax Wipe On Poly.

The wood just soaked up the stain and now it’s luster has returned.

I cleaned the seat with the upholstery brush on my carpet cleaner and, “hello, pretty little chair!” This is chair is headed to our shop and hopefully a good home.

  1. I am so glad that you came over.

And, you enjoy those precious toddlers!! That cloche will come out before you know it. You would gladly put it back into hiding, when they are older, just to get some "baby time" back!!

    Your chair redo is great.

  2. You're right, you don't always have to paint it. I have an old chair that I debated about painting for about a year and then decided it was beautiful the way it was. It's dark wood and the seat is very similar to yours. I love it!

  3. What an incredible amount of eye-candy!
I got your blog address from Central Florida Gardening and I am so glad I did…you have an amazing eye for seeing potential beauty on all things!

  4. I need you to add my button or link to the party to your post. This is not your fault. I was having so many problems with Google last night I forgot to add the instructions.
    Thanks,
    Cheri
