Oldies, But Goodies

Ok, so I’ve got nothin‘ for you today. I have a lot of things primed in the spray booth and things that are in the works, so I will have some great after picture for you very soon! Since I didn’t have anything new, I wanted to share a couple of pieces I completed this summer. I’ve received a ton of compliments on this dresser and I received the highest compliment of all – it sold very fast. I purchased this at an auction for $45.00. That’s a little more than I normally pay, but I loved the shape and it was in great condition. It just needed a fresh coat of paint and some new hardware.

The decorative painting was inspired by a painted buffet in a magazine ad that I clipped out a few years ago. Unfortunately, I completed this piece pre-blog, so I did not take a before picture. Just picture it a dingy cream color with brass hardware. This dresser deserved better.

I also bought this headboard at an auction for $1.00. It was just a dark wood. Not bad, but nothing special. I fell in love with the way the dresser turned out, so I painted the headboard to match. I think this would look so charming in a young girl’s room or a guest room.

I think it was $1.00 well spent, don’t you?

I’m posting this to Show & Tell Friday at My Romantic Home. Make sure you check it out!

  1. I loved seeing these ~ I like how you did them so that they would match. The dresser has some great detail, which I'm sure was lost "before". I'd love to find a headboard for $1.00! I'd love to find a Queen headboard for under $100.00!

You're up tomorrow in the 5 Things feature! : ) I've got it scheduled to post at 12:05 a.m. {a little under 2 hours from now ~ just in case you're up then}.

  2. You are an amazing artist/painter! I loved the dresser and headboard. I am anxious to read more of your past posts and get some tips on refinishing old pieces of furniture. I have several things I am interested in refinishing. I love flea markets/yard sales/GoodWill. I have been through Gettysburg on many occasions traveling to and from the Amish Country in Lancaster. Beautiful area of the country!! I'm glad I found your blog. Love & blessings from NC!

  3. Absolutely exquisite! You seem to find the most fascinating pieces too with really interesting features. I just love the sides of that dresser! Your craiglist./auction searching is definately ispiring me to go more in that direction.

    Thanks!

  4. Great pieces. They looks very Scandinavian.
Thanks for the spray gun advice. Thats a little pricey, hopefully one day in the future =) I would love to see a post on the process of your work. Spray painter and all. =)
    I love your work, always.

  5. if i may … GASP … it is remarkable to do the refinishing and painting as you do … but to add such fine, intricate artwork is … well, i am kinda speechless here … you have given life extraordinaire to this piece … and from delving deeper into your blog, so many other pieces as well … BRAVO!

  6. I think I know the buffet you're talking about. I ripped that out of a magazine too! I can just dream about it — but you made it happen! Your creation is magnificent! I love your work.

  7. These are so beautiful! I bet it's hard to let them go after you've painted them – it would be for me. Really gorgeous pieces. Can't wait to look around and see what else you've done.

  10. Congratulations sweetie, you did an excellent job giving that poor beat up table a makeover after giving it a warm inside home. Believe it or not I found a 3 tier side table on the side of the road the other day and it was in perfect condition. Problem is, it’s laminate!????
