“name that cow” contest

For those of you who aren’t aware, I recently aquired a new cow painting and I just put her in a frame and hung her on the wall today…

She is by the same artist as Eulalie, Cindy Austin.  I love Eulalie so much and we had talked off and on about her doing another painting for me and I kept coming back to cows.  I really don’t have a cow fetish, but maybe I have a cow painting/cow head fetish?  So, I asked for a black and white Holstein cow for my family room.  I wanted a cow that was younger than Eulalie, standing at a profile and looking at the artist.  Cindy blew me away.  I didn’t really expect anything less, but Eulalie is so beautiful that we were both a little bit nervous about how this new cow would compare.  Well, she has captured my heart and now she needs a name.

In what’s become a Miss Mustard Seed tradition, we are going to have a “name that cow” contest.  To let you know, here are the names of my other cows…

The stately lady, Eulalie…

…the lumbering and content, Hyacinth…

…the ever watchful and somewhat controversial, Julia…

…and the dreamy and unconventional, Adele…

I went back to look at the “name that cow” contest for Adele and I made myself laugh.  Here’s what I wrote…

“Somehow I don’t think this is going to become a crazy popular game show anytime soon.

Imagine with me… a “Price is Right” girl in a spandex jumper leading out a jersey cow, chewing her cud (the cow, not the girl), parading in front of the contestants and audience.  The host points to a girl behind a powder blue podium, crying and jumping up and down out of excitement.  “Alright contestant number three…”  And the audience takes over and yells in unison, “NAME…..THAT…..COW!!”  The girl looks back at her friends and family.  They’re wearing matching magenta t-shirts with her name and picture ironed on the front.  They’re screaming out names, waving their arms and jumping.  Her mom is mopping away tears of pride and taking pictures.  The girl closes her eyes and nervously leans to the microphone.  “Ummmm…..Brittany?”  The audience groans.  Her family hangs their heads.  Her mother cries.  The host gives a sympathetic smile.  “Oh, I’m sorry, but that’s a terrible name for a jersey cow.”

I must’ve eaten too much chocolate that day or something.

Anyway, here’s how the contest will work.  You can throw out as many names as you want and don’t have to worry if someone else has already said it.  When I pick the name I like, I’ll see who suggested it first.  The winner will receive one of the antique European hemp sheets left over from the Chapel Market ($110.00 value).  They are awesome for upholstery or using as a table cloth, etc.  Tons of possibilities.  The contest will close Friday, October 25 at midnight PST.

So, what should this new girl be called?

Okay…are you ready to…NAME…..THAT……COW!

Disclosure: This is not a paid feature post.  Cindy graciously painted this for me as a gift and I am talking about it because I want to.  You can buy Cindy’s original art and giclee prints from her Etsy shop, including Eulalie and this new cow.   She is also a riot and you can get to know her on her blog, Cindy’s Fractured Fairy Tale.

    1. Elsie is a small farm community in Michigan. They have an annual dairy festival known as the Elsie Dairy Festival.

  1. It’s a no brainer for me! I owned a dairy for years and we named all of our cows. My favorite was a beautiful, regal Holstein. During the winter months, when it was so cold that your coffee would freeze on the window sill, I would lean against her and keep warm while she milked out. Her name was “Twilight”!

    1. Eloise. I have a furniture painting company named eloise & ivy and my Daugter is Ivy and the cow head on our wall is Eloise. I am partial to that name and it would fit perfectly with Eulalie.

  2. You could call her Chain Saw which is too funny or at least to me or Duchess Annabella Beatrix Elizabeth III and call her Duchess ..

  3. Geography’s Twist.

I pick this name because geography was the first word that popped into my head when I saw this cow. The beautiful lines, patterns, and shapes with the hills and valleys of its shoulders and back. I then thought of Twist, mostly because the colors resemble twist ice cream and its a cow, so it was fitting. Also, my kiddos can’t seem to get enough Twist ice cream! Cows and ice cream are such favorites here in Wisconsin!

  4. She is lovely! My iPod just selected “Miss Jackson” (Panic! at the Disco song), so I’ll recommend Miss Jackson for her.

    Enjoy!

  5. When I was little, my grandparents had a cow named Daisy, but I always called her Daisy Moo Cow….so that’s my suggestion.

  6. Georgette, Francine, Genevieve, Florence, Emmaline, Emmylou, Dorothea, Henrietta, Hortense, Gwendolyn… So many names, so few cows!

  7. Since I have two “real” cows (jerseys) and I don’t think they’d mind having their names used, I offer “Blossom” or “Willa.”

    1. Growing up in the Atlanta area we would always visit Mathis Dairy for our school field trips. There we would get a chance to milk a sweet cow named Rosebud. Although I doubt it was the same cow every time. Rosebud is forever a memory for school kids who grew up in the Atlanta area. I vote for Rosebud!

  8. Here we go…Mr.CC’s names are Udderleah, Matilda Jane, Clairice, and Edwina. I am going with Eva (my grandmother’s name) and Lizzy Belle. What a fun contest Marian.

    Blessings,
    Linda

  9. We can suggest as many names as we’d like, right? Here are my humble suggestions. 🙂

Felicity, Clara Belle, Junie, Margot, Daisy, Elsie, Lucy, Lily, and Delilah

  10. Verbena. Flower/plant. Represents divine and supernatural forces. Called “Tears of Isis” by ancient Egyptians, later on “Juno’s tears”. Sacred plant to the ancient Romans. In many Central and Eastern European languages often associated with iron. Verbena has longstanding use in herbalism and folk medicine. To sum up – she’s patroness of nature though gentle and charming. Just like her x

  11. Bronwen! She looks Welsh to me…and the name also means ‘fair breast’, which fits nicely with those corking udders 🙂

  14. Ok. First YAY!!! I’ve been waiting for this ‘naming of the cow’ painting – truly I have been. 🙂 with that being said I have one name entry & the reason I picked this name is the meaning behind the name. The name I picked is Kalila the meaning ‘Dearly Loved’. I don’t think there is a person that you met or just by them reading your blog that you don’t inspire. That they don’t feel like that know you. People love you ( in a non weird way ) haha. You truly
Are in an inspiration and people are just drawn to you.. & they don’t even have to meet you in person. So I hope this doesn’t come off cheesy but the words are true. Kalila it is for me.

  15. Millie
    Mildred
    Millicent
Mimi – my favorite. A meaningful family name in our family
    Effie
Snooki – you did say a Jersey cow, right? 🙂

Beautiful painting and I’m sure you’ll find an amazing name!

  16. The painting is so lovely Here are My suggestions:

    Gardenia
    Lilly
    Pumpkin
    Honey
    Mable
    Hilda
    Bella
    Fanny
    Saydie Mae
    Lela
    Sara Belle
    Ginny
    Gertrude
    Myrtle
    Aunt Doll

  17. Frieda – German name meaning Lady
This is a Holstein Friesian milk cow – originally bred in Netherlands and Northern Germany 🙂

  18. She’s Constance!!!

    Or Bella?
    Maybe Gertrude.
Or I was thinking Kim, Kim the Cow. Short and sweet!

  19. Annalie – in Swedish it means Graceful Meadow. I’ve also seen it written that it means Graced With Gods Bounty.

  20. Helene or Hildegard. She’s a Holstein, which is a German breed so she spud have a German name. 🙂

  21. Even before I knew what this post was about, I saw the cow and thought “Serafina”. so that’s my suggeston.

  22. I used to have a Holstein that my daughter won at the fair, when she was 3 years old. Her name was Sue. This painting reminds me of her.

  23. When I was a little girl, my Grandfather had a milk cow named “Beulah”. I have such found memories of going out to milk her with him. We would walk out into the pasture and she would come and rub her head against him. He would pick me up and place me on her back and with his hand on her shoulder we’d head back to the barn.
It was with great joy that I discovered the name in Isaiah 62:4. It is a name for restored Israel.

  24. I’m going with my own name, Goldie 🙂 just for fun. Serious, Maude, aaaand since I just moved from Germany to the US, here are some traditional German names for kicks and giggles. Brunhilde, Thilde (Tilda), and Rosa, since the Holstein cow originated in Europe.

  25. I LOVE COWS!!! And I’ve already picked names for my ‘future’ cows.

    Blossom
    Gracie
    Moolan (as in Moulan Rouge)

  26. There are 2 names calling out to me right now – first, Annabelle. And I almost hate to admit that one because it’s my granddaughter’s name, but this pretty cow looks like Annabelle to me. The 2nd name is Beulah and I have no justification for it, the name just came to me when looking at her picture 😉

  27. Sweet Adeline – but you already have Adele. Madeline or Maddie. I also like Margaret as well or Peggy Sue.
    Good luck.

  28. Anna Belle
    Myrtle
    May
    May Belle
    Lily Ann
    Verna -protector
    Isabeau- My God is bountiful
    Lavernia- born in the spring

  29. How about some alliteration here…. “Miss Maizie” to go with “Miss Mustardseed”!!

  30. Call me crazy but this cow looks distinguished enough for a good ol’ double southern name… So my suggestion is Hadley Mae. Hadley Mae Hawthorne if you check her birth certificate (which I’m certain would be stamped by the grand ol’ state of South Carolina and probably smell like peaches and have a sweet tea stain on the corner).

    She’s beautiful!

  31. The minute you said you were gonna do this, I thought of one of my great aunt’s name on my grandfather’s side, his sister –
    Effie Sue

Another aunt on my grandmother’s side, her sister –
    Cymbeline

Both of those names are very old and not heard of anymore. I’d be honored for you to use one of them. Love you Miss Marion!

  32. We went to the State Fair several weeks ago…and I was so taken with the beautiful cows. I’m not a cow-person, but had to make a second trip around to just look at them. The prettiest one there was named Emma…so there’s my suggestion!

  33. I swore we submitted names on FB a week or so ago….or is my dementia kicking in again?

  34. Molly, Bessie, Annie, Caroline, Julianna, Wilma, Lilly, Grace, Francis, Faith, Sue Lynn, Sophie
    Missy, Annabelle, Lucille,

    Annabelle is the winner!!

  35. Or…Genevieve or Ruth
Those were my grandmothers name~both farmers wives.
Loved my summers on the farm!

  36. Or, on another note, you could name her something old fashioned like Dorcus or Hortense. or Imogene, or Jezabelle 🙂

  37. Miss Maimie
    Miss Merriweather
    Miss Morning Glory
    Maimie
    Merriweather
    Morning Glory
    Maizie
(I like having the “Miss” come first !

  38. How about Eula Beth Bovine? Eula Beth and Eulalie … grandmother and grand daughter. Last name Bovine, for obvious reasons …

I could also see her as Henrietta Bovine, or Annabeth Bovine.

    Beautiful painting! 🙂
    Artie

  39. Horses with spots are called Paint horses and this beautiful milk cow has lots of paint spots so she should be named… MILK PAINT! I also like MOLLIE-MOO

  40. Two more – my grandmothers were Agnes and Johanna (or Jenny for short) I always lean towards the old fasioned names for my chickens!

  41. I’m not reading the comments so that I will have a fresh perspective. Bossie, Bessie, Mabel, Laurel (very nice and green, don’t you think?) One of my favorites, Donna, after Funky Junk Donna who grew up on a dairy farm. When I think of cows, I think of Donna.
Myrtle is a nice old fashioned name that is also very green. Flossie. Ann

  42. I’m about to have our 6th child and this one is a boy, so I thought it would be so fun to pick a girl’s name! Here are my suggestions:

    Henrietta
    Dottie Beth
    Othel Marie
    Darcy Rebecca

  43. You could also name her Flo. Sounds like a milk cow and reminds me of the Flow Blue dishes

  44. Maybe Lenora or Oravell after my grandmothers since my great grandmother’s name was Julia. She also looks like a Viola to me. Viola means “flower” so it would go well with Hyacinth. This has become a fun tradition, intentional or not! 🙂

  45. She looks like every one of these names when I look at her.Whitney, Spotlight, SkiSlope, Mappy, Lovely, Spotty, and Earnestine.

  46. Well, if she’s a Jersey she should probably be “Snookie” don’t you think? Or” Irene”. Cindy is a talented artist! Enjoy your new cow!

  47. Elena
    Isabelle/ Isabella
    Eloise
    Claire
    Marie
    Georgia

She looks sophisticated and french to me! 🙂

  48. Willie (I had a cow named willie!)
    Violet (willie’s daughter)
    Mirabelle
    Lullabelle
    Dixie
I love all yor cow pictures. They remind me of my great grandfathers farm where I would go as a child. He would always let me feed his cows a he even gave me one named Willie that was “all mine”. She had a daughter that he let me name myself, and er name was Violet because she had blue eyes. These are some of my favorite family memories!! Thanks for letting me relive them here to NAME THAT COW!!

  49. I think she needs a Southern Belle name like:

    Magnolia (Miss Magnolia)
    Dolly
    Charlotte
    Ollie Belle
    Opal
    Fannie Lou

  50. Buttermilk
or maybe Lady Buttermilk….She looks so regal and as if she is wearing heels..
yet, so common….sturdy and strong..with lots of milk.. it just seems as if it would be buttermilk instantly…
Essie Pearl (Pearl for her regal look again) Essie for the simplicity and strength of her look.
or maybe Buttercup or Lady Buttercup
    Daisy
    Betsy

    She is a beauty!!!

    Lucille
    Hortense
    Beulah
    Etta

It will be fun to see who she’ll be!

  52. Emmely after Emmely Holsteinin zu Freiburg. The Holstein surname first appeared in 1382 in a charter of the town of Holsteinin, Germany….the name was Emmely Holestinin.

  53. When I see this picture I think of what a beautiful creature God has made and he name Glory comes to mind!

  54. I can only envision this gorgeous cow having one name: Gretchen.

I love hearing about your childhood in picturesque Germany, and this being a Holstein cow, I think a German name is particularly perfect. As a name, Gretchen also fits right in with Eulalie, Hyacinth, Julia, and Adele… all beautiful but slightly quirky and unique classic names that will never go out of style.

  55. Etheline. An old southern name. In fact she was a hairdresser for my mother many years ago. Love the cows!!! And of course everything else in your home.

  56. Holstein cows are from the Netherlands, so I looked for Dutch names. How about Gwendolyn, Claire, Sophie, or Margo?

  57. Lovely girls?..I think she is a dear cow and should be Beverly..Bev for short for my dear friend in New Zealand. They have lots of these Holsteins in NZ.

  58. My first choice is Adelle, second choice is Abagail. Not sure why but she seems like an “A ” girl to me! Beautiful

  59. She looks a little Bossie, too! So Bossie is my second choice! I grew up on a dairy farm and love all things cow!

    Luella
    Cordula
    Velma
    Esther

All good German names and they just happen to be my Grandmothers’ and some of my great aunts’ names.

  63. I like Beulah … it means ‘she who is married’ in Hebrew, also another name for Israel referring to ‘heavenly’ 🙂

  64. Bessie is her name. This is the diminutive of Elizabeth, which means “My God is abundance” and she sure looks like she would give abundantly.

    Ivyanne
    Annabella
    Fiona

  67. Clarice
    Clarabelle

I thought of the eyelashes and Clarice immmediately came to mind. She also looks to be a definate Clarabelle.

OH–it sounded familiar! That could be why Clarice came to mind! On Rudolph–Clarice with the big eyelashes! Yes, that is what got me!

  68. Someone must have said these already 300 comments ago but I think you should stay in Eulalie’s musical theater roots and name her Elphaba (Elfie) or Nessarose (Nessa)

  69. What about “Dolly” from Anne of Green Gables (I don’t know if that was the name of Anne’s cow in the book but it was in the movie:)

    Or how about….

    Jean from SOUTH JERSEY!!!!!

  73. I vote for “Petty” short for “Petunia”! My father had a dairy farm….we had over 100 registered Holsteins.

  74. Sally–because we had a cow named Sally when I was a child. She ate my mitten. The one on the string around my neck. And they didn’t do therapy 60 years ago.

    Savannah
    Olive
    Esther
    Maebelle
    Ruby

  76. I think she needs a Dutch name and I think this fits perfectly “mooi meisje” means “Beautiful Girl” and its easy to pronounce. 😉

  77. Frederika. That’s the first name that popped into my head when I saw her. She looks very Scandinavian to me.

  78. I didn’t see that my comment posted, so I’m sorry if this is a repeat.

I want to suggest her name should be Calista, which is my great-grandmother’s middle name. I’ve always thought it was a pretty name.

  79. Bonnie Jean
    Bonnie
    Maggie Moo
    Scout
    Weeza

  89. Elsie! There used to be a picture of a cow on cartons of milk named Elsie….she reminds me of her. Another name….Belle. 🙂

  90. Bella……
    because she is just so
I am in Italy right now, maybe that is why the name popped into my head. BUT I also have had a thing for cows and this one to me is why cows are unexplainably beautiful. My favorite so far. K

  91. I have loved cows since middle school, except for a brief time in 11th grade when a cute boy said, “Hey, I saw a cow and thought of you!”… My fascination was well-known, and people would give me cow related items all the time, from earrings to t-shirts, posters to coffee mugs. One of my favorite things was a little enamel pin that looked remarkably like your new addition- I named her Judy and wore her often. I know Judy is awfully close to Julia, so instead I suggest these names:
    Scholastica
    Appollonia
    Rachel

She’s a lovely cow- I may just have to add a print of her to my Christmas list!

  92. you can name her after me! Marjorie. it means pearl. it’s an old fashioned name:) or you could name her Brassica Juncea. it’s the latin name for mustard seed. but what i like most is Eva. she looks like a gentle Eva.

  93. BTW – she asked me clarify that her name is “Eugenie”, with an “e” on the end. Seems she’s a bit precise about it.

  94. My husband’s father bred Holsteins. They named one calf “Mabel” after their grandmother … And thought themselves quite clever! She is a beauty!

“Sweet Clementine”… but I see a couple of others beat me to that one. So, I’ll throw out a couple of others.

    Cordelia
    SassyBelle
    FreddieLou
    Jezabel
    Esther
    EullaJean
    Wealthy (a great -aunt’s name)
    Mabel (our late-doggie’s name)

She has the prettiest eyes I’ve ever seen on an animal, and their chocolate chip quality made me think that “Godiva” might suit her.

I have so enjoyed everyone’s ideas. How Fun! Thanks MMS for bringing it all together.

  97. She is a beauty! She could be an Emily.
    Or a Lucinda.
    Or Lysa.
Or dolly. She is pretty glamorous.
    Rihanna.

  98. I think she looks like a Nelly:)
My daughter looooves cows, and we go visit farms close by so she can take pictures(she’s 14 and wants to be a photographer). So my daughters vote, though, is Nancy.

  100. I live on a ranch in Central West Texas, and the cows are my favorite animals! I am so glad you love them too! Being from Texas, she is a “Blue Bell” (i.e. the ice cream) to me :0 Or maybe Alma…Beautiful painting!

  101. Annie Page… after my grandmother. The strongest, sweetest, most humble woman I have ever known. Characteristics your cow seems to demonstrate here too, like she shyly was willing to have her picture taken becaue she knew it would please the person behind the camera. So sweet. Yep, Annie Page. Perfect. 🙂

  102. In keeping with your own childhood memories of Germany, I will suggest:
    Lorelei (LOR-a-lye), a German name.

Lorelei is a rock on the eastern bank of the Rhine in Germany, and has some interesting history & folklore behind the name.

Eulalie and Lorelei, yes, I think they sound good together. 🙂
    Rita @ Panoply

  106. How about….

Sidney Mae or Sid or Mae Bell. That’s my grandmother’s name. Although my grandmother did not have cows she did have a large chicken coop which she would sit in the middle of the coop with a book to sneak away from her 11 children. My mother, Anita, being one.

  107. I nominate Beverly.
I am from Southern California and I visited my friend Beverly in Sacramento a couple of years ago. The trip was glorious. Frogs sang us to sleep, I could see stars, and we were surrounded by acres of farm animals. The most exciting thing that happened that week was the cows got loose on Friday night and we had to scoot them out of the front yard and bank into pasture. Beverly is a cherished friend, beautiful, gracious, and loving – just like this cow.

  108. There is no question, that gorgeous young lady looks like a “Matilda” to me :))

I’ve also started a search the perfect cow painting here in Australia after falling in love with Eulalie 🙂

  109. Dorothy…… it was a well loved name on my mother’s side and there were 4 Dorothy’s total
( My mother, her mother, her aunt and her cousin ). In order to not get confused they were known as Big Dorothy, Little Dorothy, Dot and Dode !

  110. I love the painting. We live on a farm but only have horses. I would love to look out the window and see a field of cows like Eulalie or the one in your new painting. She looks like a Claire to me.

  111. Dinah
    or
    Georgiabelle

I really …really, REALLY!… LIKE “Dinah” for a young Holstein cow like her. 🙂

I also loved your game show synopsis!
    Pat

  112. Now that’s a pretty cow! I too have thing for cow picture’s, (and roosters) just love them!

I think she looks like a Matilda!

or maybe Abigail or Miss Maudie Beulla Bessie Padge Hermitie the Holstein

My Granddaughter & I are having fun coming up with names, but whatever you chose

will surely be fitting for such a regal looking gal!

  113. I have a dirty Harlequin Great Dane that is constantly being compared to either a pony or a Holstein because of his markings. His face is split down the middle with black and white, but there are black splotches around his eye on the white side. As a puppy (my first ever, picked from the litter, splurged upon puppy) those facial markings reminded me of the Phantom of the Opera mask, and it stuck. His name is Phantom, but he’s often called Phanny, Phanny Boy, Phanny Bear, etc. I’m getting to the point, I promise. Phantom is a very neutral name, so it could be perfect for a big girl like her. Or you could feminize it and call her Phantasia or Phantasy. It makes sense that every year at the local livestock show I always fall in love with a big beautiful female black and white cow. 🙂

  114. Betty, Betty big eyes. She has the sweetest face with those ears and big eyes with long lashes.

    Yep! Betty 🙂

  115. My daughter and her husband and kids are raising miniature herefords. One came with a tag in her ear with the name Pauline…….
    Or Sadie??
I do like the comment with the name Lorelei though…..

  116. Love some of the above suggested names.

How ’bout Clarissa or Clarinda? Even Cara Mia?

    Then, there is always Gretchen.

  117. Ailith
    Edwina
    Ivy
    Magdelena
    Odele

    Freda
    Wilona

  118. Princess Patty after my sister……………sweet and just a little different (and she loves the ocean and speaks cow, too). Love my little sister!

  119. I second the suggestion for “Minnie Pearl”. Love it!! The cow in the picture just looks like she is saying “HOWDY”.

  120. I say Jan. I have a beautiful cow painting from the 1860’s by a painter named Jan Bedys Tom. He was a distant relative from Holland. I love my cow painting!! I took it to Antiques road show several years ago when they were in Atlantic City, and It was appraised by them. Such fun!!

  123. When I was a little girl, my family would travel to my Gram’s for Thanksgiving. While there, I would spend the whole day reading a book that had been my mother’s when she was a little girl. It was about a cow whose only wish was to be a happy, useful cow. She traveled behind a covered wagon with her family as they moved to a new farm.

It was titled: Susannah the Pioneer Cow. It was written in 1941 by MIRIAM E Mason!!

I would like to suggest Susannah!

    1. Re: Susannah

BTW. I still have the book and have read it to all my children. I can’t wait til my granddaughter is old enough to read it. It’s what we call a “cozy” story.

  124. Well, let’s see…Henrietta, Berta, Gertie, Marietta, Delilah, Ellen Sue, Sue Ellen, Zoey, Maxine, Coquette, Geraldine, Magnolia, Daisy, Florence, Rosie, Virginia, Ginny, Lila, Lilly, Harriet, Giselle, Sophie, Flo, Babs, Babette, Annabel, Bobbi, Clarette, Josette, Josephine, Josie, Lucy, Lisle, Margot, Nel, Ophelia, Prudence, Trudie, Victoria…just a few off the top of my head! 🙂 She’s definitely a beaut! 125. Greta or Gretel
    Marta
    Lisel
    Brigette
    Claudia

(Name list slightly influenced by The Sound of Music.) 😉

  126. Since you have been looking back at all your fond memories from Germany lately (my sister lives over there right now, husband is in the army as well!-LOVELY place) I think this lady needs a name like HEIDI! 🙂 or
KATHARINA: German form of Katherine, meaning “pure.” 🙂

  127. Hi Marian, great contest! I would be honored if you chose to call your newest addition “beautiful Babette” 🙂

  128. This is a perfectly easy contest. The newest cow is Hattie May. LOL. This was my mothers Christian name. She changed it to Patricia when she was 18. I will not hurt her feelings for suggesting this, as Hattie May passed from this world in 1969. I bet she is looking down, laughing.
Don’t you think this is the perfect name? I sure do.

LOVED your post about the dental cabinet. I could just hug it too.
    Ter’e

and just a thought..maybe Cynthia? Jessamine is my fave though.

  132. Oh my! I LOVE THAT COW!! I think something down-home-on-the-farm kinda name like Bessie Mae would be perfect! I just know that a cow named Bessie Mae would make the best, sweet, home-churned butter for mama’s hot biscuits fresh from the oven! She’s a beauty!!!

  133. I like Irish names! Maggie, May. Molly, Eileen,
    Peggy, Kathleen, Carmel, Philomena!
Love your cows! You even have this city girl looking at cow paintings 🙂

  134. I’ve always loved the Biblical names from the 1800’s, like Patience, Grace, Prudence, etc. but seeing your lovely dairy cow who would faithfully supply her milk every day, I would name her “Faithful.”

  135. My husband suggested “Oatmeal”. Think of Frosty the Snowman when the kids are trying to come up with a name for him. I so hope he’s the first to think of that one and that you choose it, just to see the look on his face when I tell him he won an antique European hemp sheet! 😀

  136. I say Josephine & my mom votes for Clover, which, coincidentally, would make a lovely name for a new paint color if you ever decided to do a sorbet green… Xoxo – The Chicken Coop, Montgomery.

  137. Being raised in Wisconsin and having relatives who farmed I have lots of ideas from their cows. However–Elsie the Cow is very well known back in Wisconsin and I think your cow looks just like an “Elsie”…

(My 13 year old son just looked at this post and said, “What’s with her cows?”) 🙂

  139. My grandparents had a dairy farm several years ago. As a child, I would go every summer and spend time on the farm. I was allowed to put the feed out for the cows as they would come in and take their turn to be milked. My grandmas favorite cow was named Sophie Agnes. So that is my vote……Sophie Agnes!

  140. Mary Jane (after her hoofs that, at first glance, looked like those Mary Jane shoes!)

  142. Gladys. I grew up on a 60 acre farm that my grandparents lived on and my grandpa’s parents before that. They grew tomatoes, and potatoes and sold them during the great depression. They had cows, horses, turkeys, chickens and pigs. My parents still live there and my children love to go to ‘grandma’s farm’. My grandma loved her garden and her animals. Her name was Gladys. And I think she would be honored that a beautiful painting of cow were named after her…!

  145. When I was a young girl we had a cow similar to her that my mother would milk every afternoon. But the problem she had was the cow would not cooperate and kick while mama tried to milk her. So one night at the supper table my dad informed us kids that Blossum had left the building. My brothers and me cried all night but I’m sure my mother smiled under her breath. Everything has a history. Big old eyed Blossum .

grandmother who handed down such eyelashes….

  150. Sheila…..when I was a kid. We had a holstein named Sheila. She thought she was a horse. Always knocked our fence down and lead the horses over the hill.

  151. Love this beauty!

My best friend from high school had this sweet great aunt named Loysie. She was silent, strong, and a provider… Much like I imagine your little Holstein to be. Enjoy your new cow!

  152. I asked my 17 year old daughter to help me come up with names. We love your cow painting! We started with some family names and went from there.
    Irma
    Sarah
    Katie
    Doris or Dory
    Sadie
    Thelma
    Selina
    Pamela
    Gertrude
    Dotty

  156. I am thinking Matilda and though you could also give her the nickname of “Tilly” you could also go with “Matti” – whatever you end up naming her, it will be just right. She certainly is delightful! What a great artist!

  157. My grandmother and great-grandmothers names was Iona Beatrice. Love both names.

  160. BTW…my great-great grandmother was Iona as well…but her nickname was ONI.
    The other two were Bea

  161. I see someone else has already mentioned the name i first thought of, Matilda. She just looks like Matilda to me.

Others I think you should consider: Gertrude, Olive and maybe Eula.

  162. Ebory – combo of Ebony and Ivory.

  166. My daughter raised a young cow and she named is Maggie Moo-a great project, a great cow, and forever in our hearts.

  167. There are three names I have always loved and I think would be perfect for her: Adelaide, Ophelia, and Permelia Jane 🙂 (That last one is my husband’s great-great-great-grandmother’s name!)

  168. I think she looks like a Gwendolyn(Gwennie) for short,or maybe she should be Eudora. The pictures are all just gorgeous.

  169. Edwina – from Old English and means “rich friend”. Lovely as true friendship is one of life’s ‘richest’ rewards.

  170. I’ve always liked the name “Calpurnia” from “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Or “Mrs. Wiggins” from the Freddy the Pig children’s books. We have two goats we’ve named “Annabelle” and “Clarabelle” .

  174. Lucille –old-fashioned like the your other cow names, but still young enough for a sweet young cow

  175. One more…..

Gwyneth or Gwenyth or Gweneth –

meaning for this name is BLESSED, HAPPY & origin is Welsh

  176. She looks like the cow I milked while growing up. Her name was Betsy and she was not always easy to milk! Yes, Betsy will do.

  178. Ursula, Greta, Trudi or Dagmar … in a nod to your childhood home (and my mom’s native country).

  179. Brigitte

  182. Some years ago when I was lucky enough to have raised my children in the best possible way, we had a farm. We had nearly every animal that a decent respectable farm should have. But the one animal that had my heart was my milking cow. She was the light of my life. Milking her was a chore that gave me pleasure every day. She was a Jersey and like your Holstien, she was so girlie in every way. Her name was Bessie. Her most favorite things in the whole world were my homemade blueberry muffins! I miss her and will always feel that every cow should be named Bessie

  183. I have always loved my grandmothers name and she was a short stocky woman so I say ROXY. Her daughter which is my mom her name is ELSIE, Yes she was kidded a lot! And I worked with a stout strong woman one time and her name came to my mind when I saw your cow and her name was MARTHA. So those are my 3 names that I thought was befitting such a beautiful cow!

  184. Beautiful cow painting! I like the following names: Bella, Belle, Leisure, Frolic, Mary-Carol & Olive.

  185. I’m not sure if someone already gave this idea but when I saw the picture the first name I thought of was
    ELOISE

  186. The first picture of her that I saw was a close up of her face. The name AUDREY immediately came to mind. She has beautiful long eyelashes and is ever so feminine. I’m just sure that the fair lady, Audrey Hepburn would be honored.

  187. I do believe she looks like a Claire to me, or maybe Hattie, or Abigail, or a Josephine. She looks like a southern belle to me.

  188. Her beautiful spots remind me of the mom dog of the 101 dalmation puppies. Mom was named “Missus” and I think the name “Missus” fits your new cow perfectly!
    Going with the same theme…
“Alameda” is one of those 101 dalmation puppies. I think “Alameda” has a nice ring to it too.

  189. Clara. My Grandma’s name. They had a dairy farm with holsteins that look just like your painting – just looking at it brings back many fond memories.

  190. When I saw her I thought, she looks like such a gentle soul. There is a song called “A Gentle Soul” and in the song it mentions the name Camilla. I love that name!

  191. OK I’m on a roll. I just look at her and think soft (have you ever touched a cow’s nose?…it’s really soft!) and gentle. Other names I like:

Mildred: after my great aunt. She was short, quiet, and always had the most gentle eyes But make no mistake, she wasn’t a pushover! Her name means “gentle strength”.

    Adina: means noble, gentle, delicate.

Belinda: again, means “soft and tender”. Well, that kind of sounds like we’re talking about a steak…your new cow is for loving, not eating!

  192. I have an Aunt Marian who is married to a retired dairy farmer. They worked tirelessly, like all farmers, milking Holsteins for thirty years. Marian’s mother, my grandmother, was Henryetta. I think it’s the perfect name for a Holstein!

  193. What beautiful painting!
My first thought was to call this young gal Sadie but then I got some other name ideas
Genevieve or Molly or Constance or Vertiline or Phoebe or Sarah Elizabeth or Winnifred

  194. After your recent post about growing up in Germany, which I loved as I am German and visited all my relatives when I was 8 and again just recently, in 2009, I thought a good German girls name would be sweet, so here are a few ideas:

    Brigitte
    Elsa
    Freida
    Gerda
    Hilda
    Ilsa
    Klara

  195. My aunts name was OPHIE not short for anything. Her sisters name is ELSIE my mom and yes she got kidded a lot! HALO, LUCILLE. BARBIE, PIPER, LORENE. OREO, CLARA, Candice. LIBERTY. MAYPOP. JUSTINE. WILLAMAE SASAFRASS EMAGRACE LIZAJANE NEVAEH The last one is my favorite, Heaven spelled backwards! 🙂

  196. So many great names and so few cows ..

Sapphire ( where is spell check when we need it)

    Cybil

    Alma

    Pearlie

    Willow

    Cinnamon

    Eleanor

    Idola

    Cora

    Edna

    Maude

    Honey

    Peaches

  197. Eustace: it means Fruitfull or Literally Abundant in Grain, it also means steadfast and Stable.

  198. I like the aforementioned “Indie”, not only because it’s short for indigo, but because this cow
definitely looks independent. She almost looks like she’s challenging her observer, though not obnoxiously, but in a sweet-cow kind of way. I also like Beulah, just because that sounds
like a mama cow to me.

  199. I’m going with Breezewood Patsy…it just seems to fit. I did a search and the record milk producing cow in the world is named Smurf…and you know, that is blue! 🙂

  200. My aunt wanted my parents to name me Verdella. Dad said no, sounds like a cow. Could it be this one?

  201. Minerva, Minnie for short – Roman goddess of wisdom and sponsor of the arts (and trade and defense, according to wikipedia). Or Violet, an up-and-coming name. Violet has a placid, pastoral quality, and so does this lovely bovine.

  202. Annabelle (Bell or Bella for short)
    Henrietta (Henri for short)
    Lottie
    Madeline
    Olivia
    Susie
    Esther
    Millicent

  203. I had the joy of being raised on a farm in the North Carolina mountains. We loved our cows and their names were Buttercup and Bossy. Buttercup was as sweet as could be and Miss Bossy, well, her name was very appropriate. I think your new cow looks like our Buttercup.
    blessings~

  204. When I was in college I had a HUGE fetish with cows. I went to school in NH and wanted to move there and have a cow in my yard! I always said I would name her Bessie or Betsy. I have no idea why! I think your cow is very majestic. Perhaps Catherine or Elizabeth. Or Diana. She is definitely royalty. The artist has outdone herself!

  205. She is beautiful!! Here are my suggestions: Emma, Haley (means hero), Halanna (victory), Haleigh (peaceful), Hannah (God’s grace), Harriet (home ruler), Haylee (from the Hay Meadow), Heidi (noble/kind), Hyacinth (flower), Hope, Hollyn, Honey or Honey Bee or Honey Blossom, Henri (German-means loved by God), Hennrietta (ruler of home), Heyley (God is my strength), or Hilda (protector). I chose mostly H names since she is a Holstein.

Marion, thank you for sharing so much of your talent. I read your blog daily and purchased your book – you’ve encouraged me to take risks and step out of my comfort zone. It’s only paint – right? So many things in life are a process and I like to say ‘enjoy the journey’.

  206. Moonbeam……don’t know why that popped into my head. We always call our steers names like Hamburger or Meatloaf.

  207. Esmerelda – Esme for short – popped right into my head when I saw her – she’s beautiful….

    S x

  208. How will you ever decide! So many great names. Funny how these things get in your head & you just keep coming up with “cow” names and many are “grandma’s” names. I keep looking at the names and there’s enough to start a “Cow Names” book. I’ve submitted a few but I want to add “Fanny”, my husband’s grandmother and mention ” Lottie” again. I saw another gal submitted Dolche inspired by her Starbucks drink and that made me think of “Lottie” (from Latte), sweet, warm, and milky! Have fun picking a name for the new “lady” in your house!

  209. My grandmother use to laugh and say she was named after a cow and so were all of her sisters. So, I am going with my grandma name Lillie Belle and throw in my aunts names Bertha, Daisy, Bessie and Ella. I promise this is truth!

  210. My husband said Betsy and I agree! I didn’t know he liked cows in their full form. That is other than put between 2 slices of bread or next to a pile of fries.

  211. I have three beautiful boys — never found out what I was carrying until the day each were born. Each boy was to be named ISABEL …. I also think Maureen is a good cow name.

  212. I think that she should be named for the season in which we are in…
which is why I would name her Maize.
She is to me by far the cream* of the crop… being corn!

  213. She has a very determined look on her sweet face! Myself being of determined German descent made me think of a few German names for this girl.

    Ingrid
    Isolde
    Liesel
    Mathilde
    Ottilie
    Trude
    Ursula
    Astrid
    Liesselotte
    Elke

    Gretel
and last but not least my name, Natalie.

  214. Guinevere was the first name that popped into my mind. The second was Maggie Mae (or Maggie Moo).

  215. we had cows growing up, so in their honor I will say Rosy or Fada (pronounced fey-da), but I also want to throw Beatrice and Georgia (my daughter’s name) into the mix!

  216. With all these wonderful cow names you are going to have to Cindy paint more cows!

  217. Audrey
    Delilah
    Fergie
    Gypsy
    Indie
    Libby
    Lorelei
Such a beautiful Holstein! Cindy Austin did an amazing job once again!

  218. How about:
    Gladys
    Bertha
    Winnie
    or
    Floy?
Those are the names of my husband’s four great Aunts.
    Or, one last suggestion:
Effie, the name of both my grandmother and my husband’s grandmother!

  219. Petunia – Grew up surrounded by cattle and used to make Farmer Brown (yes that truly was his name) angry when my sisters and I fed them green apples. I won’t go into details….. anyway – love all your cow pictures and will be visiting the etsy shop – seems like a perfect Christmas gift for my mother 🙂

  220. Instantly,,,Clara came to mind…but some others would be Edna; Mae; Bessie; Harriett; Izzy; Mable; and June…

  221. My vote is Mavis. Though Petunia has a nice ring to it. That, or Madame Bovary…get it? Bovine? Bovary? Oy. I need a second cup of coffee…..

  222. I’m going with Blanche…it was my great-grandmother’s name and she was calm, all-knowing, and forgiving. I feel like this cow has the look in her eye that she knows what you’ve been up to, she won’t bring it up in front of your parents, but you better not do it again! All without saying a word…

  223. She looks like a Nellie or a Violet…

I have Eulalie and still just love her. I had to smile when I saw the plate arrangement around “the holstein” as I have five teal blue transferware plates hanging above my Eulalie. Also have that same rusted cow mount☺

Thanks for always being such an inspiration!

  224. My father’s cow in Germany growing up was named Goldie…I have a picture of him standing next to her before he came over to the USA at age 18. Adelweis would be another interesting name in keeping with (German)names of flowers….or Zinnie or Nelke!

  225. My grandparents always had a milk cow…my grandma was named Arvie.
Of course my other grandma was Mary Elsie…..

  226. Colantha Walker: A real cow from Traverse City, MI. We even have a small festival in her honor!! Read about her here!! http://www.thevillagetc.com/colantha.html

    “Colantha’s Story
Of the 96 Holstein-Friesian cows that comprised the former Traverse City State Hospital’s herd, Colantha was by far the most prolific. In 1926, she produced 22,918 pounds of milk in a single year, making her the highest producer in the world! According to a Federal census during that same year, the State average production was only 3,918 lbs. of milk per cow per year! In her lifetime, from 1916 to 1932, her total production was 200,114.9 pounds of milk. Wow!”

A very interesting story and now the old State Hospital is alive again, it is being restored and housing business and homes!! It is such an asset to our community. All who are lucky enough to visit TraverseCity needs to stop by the “Commons”, as it is now called!!
You would love it here Marian!! Lori

  227. My first comment here on your beautiful blog…how about Beullah or Tallulah? And thank you for the wealth of information you’ve packed into your blog; you’ve helped me redecorate my living room with reupholstery, slip covers, curtains and a linen chest makeover!

  228. Ernestine

#234 – (my husband grew up on a dairy!)
    Geneva
    Josephine
    Gertrude……………………

  229. Evangeline.

I grew up on a dairy farm. We named our cows the day they birthed their first calf. My dad would call up to the house from the barn asking for a new name.

  230. Bossie. We had a dairy growing and Dad always named the family milk cow Bossie. We called the other cows in from the pasture to the barns with “Come Boss”.

  231. Dora. Or Letitia. (Names of two of my beloved aunts.)

Letitia is wonderfully old fashioned name and she can be called Lettie or Letty for short.

  232. I like Laurel, Beatrice, Savannah or maybe Royal.
I visit your blog everyday and love it!
    denise

  233. Beautiful painting! I love cow names since I live in a farming area.
    My name suggestions:
    Donelda
    Josephine
    Penelope
    Bessie
    Sarabelle
    Sadie

  234. Bessie.
I’m married to a man that grew up on a dairy farm. He milked cows that looked exactly like this, every day. The cows were never given names, only numbered. Except one. She was gentle enough to let the kids ride on her back. Like a horse. My husband and his siblings named her Bessie.
I think it’s quite the traditionally perfect name for your spotted cow 🙂

  235. I am from a family of old farm stock…My aunts were name Adella, Glenna, and Iona….a bit different….my uncle name was Dearduff…family tradition/ name sons mother maiden name..I like the name Guinevere or Gwyneth….sort of rolls off your tongue….not…or Barbara….have a lovely time chosing….we have 4 kittens in the barn we are trying to name…all born in October so will be Spooky, Pumpkin, Boo and Skeletor Love your charm

Edith, Esther, Eugenia, Henrietta, Geraldine, Priscilla, Theodora,

  237. I have a few names that I like, the first is CORDELIA! Then I would suggest; Daisy, Petunia, Lucinda (my grandmother’s name) and Cora Belle. I love your cows and I am a cow lover myself. It’s something in their eyes!

  238. I noticed that she has a marking just beside her ear that looks like the state of Louisiana so “Louise” would be a great name for her!

  239. I LOVE the cows (maybe I have a cow feddish myself. “Collected” them in high school until that got completely out of control).

    I vote Mildred.

  240. Hi Marian! She’s gorgeous. Miss Cow is looking at you, acting as if she is going to tell it to you straight. Let’s name this pretty gal: Clara, or perhaps Clara Belle, because she seems like she’s a fancy lady; Miss Lucy; or a very fine name – Marguerite! Marguerite and Adele could chew the cud with Stella and Eulalie. Either way, I love these gorgeous names people are suggesting. And it gives you another girl in your home. We have daughters, and no boys, so we have had a good time at our house naming male dogs all the boy names that we never were able to use on our own children. And even that has evolved. Mr. B and I are certain that if we had a son he would appreciate not being called Sherlock, so I think at this point we have become more extravagant in choosing monikers. And that’s what made this a great post; all us of get a chance to name someone forever. Thanks for the fun!

  244. I think you need a cow with a good German name – so I would suggest either Margarete or Edeltraud.

  245. She is so pretty! I love the names Adalaide, Lorelei, and Mable… Louise is also good. She needs a good country name. Good luck picking her new moniker!

    • Liesel
    • Wilhelmina
    • Birgitta
    • Hildegard

  255. Well, everyone I’ve ever known with cows has had one named Bessie. Maybe if you wanted to be formal you could call her Elizabeth. 🙂

Milcah (wife of wife of Nahor and daughter of Haran in the Bible)

  258. When I was a little girl I could not say “nine” which means momy in Bulgarian turkish. I would say “nuni” so this is how my mom started calling me Nuni’s girl and my nick name became NUNI. When I saw this cow I saw that little girl, me. Call her NUNI :]
    Have a lovely day,
    Hulya/Nuni

  259. Oreo ( self explanatory)

Noir Blanc ( white and black)

Belle Vache ( beautiful cow in French)

Sadie ( Like in Barbara Streisand’s movie)

Betsy, Bec, Becca,Jess,Jessie.Tess, Tessa ,Trudy, Cassie,Ally and Callie.

  262. This is fun! Lorelei= Alluring, Addie, Clementine, Edda, Rosetta, Idelia… Ok, I’m done 🙂

  263. Eleanor (Roosevelt) – stately, deep and feared…The cow looks intimidating but beautiful. Never been interested in cows but these seem to have such personality…

  266. Loretta, Elsie, Judy, Corrine, Connie. Mary Jane, Sue Etta, Virginia, Bettsy, Audrey.
She is a lovely cow. Lucky you to have her.

  267. We recently found out we are having two girls instead of one (insert tears of panic). Our girl name is after my husband’s grandmother, Rosemary. Our second girl name is hopefully going to be the name of your new cow…ELEANOR!

Please name her Eleanor so her name can have a special meaning too:)

  268. Maybelle! We named our Goldendoodle, Maybelle and I thought it fit her perfectly. (because she’s almost the same size as a cow…lol)

  269. she looks truly southern so she needs a southern name. Ellie Rae, Whinney, Dixie Bell, Edith, Vivian, Darla, Pearl, or Annalee

  270. She is almost certainly a Eugenia. This name means noble, or well-born, and she is such a regal cow. One can almost imagine a crown (of hay?) perched over those regal ears.

  271. How about Myrtle? or Ella, Ellie, Missy, Charlotte, Adeline, Hazel, Henrietta. OK, I’m done……

  272. I suggest the name LOUISE…she reminds me of a sweet elderly lady that volunteered at our MDO program for what seems like forever. She was there everyday without being asked. She loved the Lord and shared that in a sweet way. She truly loved the children, she sat in the gravel and picked out rocks with them, she would dress up for them, play puppets, bring out special books or activities from her collection. She showed a true excitement for learning and the children could tell. She was gentle yet stern (like a momma cow is) and always kept us teachers and aides in order. 🙂 She conversed with parents which made them feel welcome & special. She’s in Heaven now, but is very much missed!

  273. My favorite Christmas movie is Christmas in Connecticutt. 1945 Barbara Stanwyck. It’s a classic romantic comedy. Anyway, in the movie there is a cow affectionately known as “Macushla”. Ma-coosh-la. It’s an Irish term of endearment … like Honey , or Darling. I just LOVE that!!! So unique, and so sweet. I love a name with a good story behind it.

  274. In the 1945 romantic comedy classic – Christmas in Connecticut- there is a cow that is affectionately known as Macushla (Ma -coosh- la). I love it!!! Macushla is an Irish term of endearment like honey or darling. I love a good name with a story behind it.

  275. It’s almost Halloween I would name her after the candy “Milky Way”
That way you can associate the two and remember what month
she became part of your household.

  276. Lily, because it’s lines up with your love of flowers, as well as it’s the name of my beloved G’ma, who was a South Dakota Farm girl her whole life.

Or maybe Beatrice….. just because… it seems to fit her. :o)

  277. Oooooh she must be Ivy Jane. A young heifer needs a SPECIAL name. I looove cows …… They draw me to a simple country life. We don’t have any but we have a neighbor that has a herd that runs on part of our property. When our grandchildren are at our house ….. At breakfast they run to the windows for THE COW PARADE. SOOOOO cute!!

    Looooove IVY JANE!!

  278. When I was little, lo those many years ago, my grandfather named a cow Amity. It means “Friendly”, and your new cow looks friendly!

  279. How about Freda Belle? That was the name of my loving, sweet mom who passed away earlier this year.

  280. Tillie was my mom’s middle name. She was a beautiful Choctaw girl who loved to roam the fields of Oklahoma with her sister Ella. Both are with the Lord today….probably roaming through the fields somewhere in a heavenly place. Have fun choosing.

    Tillie
    Miss Tillie
    Ella
    Miss Ella

    Wanda

  281. The first name that popped into my head was Sally, but now I also think Mae would be lovely…

Blessings to you and thank you for your inspiration.

  282. Have to say I love the name Shona Jones suggested, Macushla !! Never have heard that!

    Cora Belle

    Madge

That is a GREAT painting! Love all your Cows!!

  283. I’m going with Leona.

Leona was my grandmother’s middle name. This new cow looks like she has an old soul, while still being youthful. I think the name Leona combines youthfulness with wisdom.

  284. Maybelline – or Mabel – she has those wonderful eyelashes! Maybe she’s born with it – maybe it’s MAYBELLINE!

  285. She is a cutie! So my suggestions are:

    Hannah Holstein

    Harriet Holstein

    Holly Holstein

in keeping with little Miss HH!

  286. She’s diffinfinitely a Mabel or Jeffie..sure of herself but not afraid to be feminine!

    Daisy

    Mazie

    Lula Belle

So many possibilities for such a beautiful girl!

  289. Bessy was a very popular name for cows, when I was growing up. I remember an old black and white movie from the 40’s, where an old farmer was going to have to sell his best milking cow, “Ole Bessy”, to save his farm.

  290. Oh my gosh! Such wonderful names have been thrown out there but the one that immediately came to me was Evelyn Rose, beautiful and stately at the same time 🙂

  291. Bessie. Bessie means my God is bountiful! Perfect for this time of year! (really anytime). She is a great addition to your home. Thanks for a great give away!

  292. I grew up on a dairy farm in Ontario. And we were always very proud of our herd of Holsteins. I remember we received a regular magazine in the mail – and it always pictured a lovely Holstein cow on the front in roughly the same pose as your elegant cow. As a little kid I would sometimes (out of boredom during what seemed a never ending summer) flip through said magazines and wonder at all the cows pictured there. It was basically a cow catalogue! I no longer live on the farm – and I really don’t know if you can still purchase cows or heifers from a cow catalogue – but it sure takes me back.
Anyway, back to “Name that Cow!”
She is a mighty handsome cow….. this is way harder than I thought (and my dad named all our cows!) I like Daisy – but its kind of obvious. or feel free to name her after me – Faye
P.S. Love your blog! Love your paint! Thanks for all the info you provide!

    1. So my little reflection got me thinking, “is there still a cow magazine?” Anyway, google found “Cowsmopolitan” – aka “Cowsmo” (amongst many others) Too funny. Have a great day!

  293. Oh my, I love all your paintings! I think she looks like a “Bessie” or possibly an “Annabelle”
Whatever you decide I am sure she will fit right in with the rest of your gals!

  294. I like the following (she looks like an old-fashioned gal):

    Cordelia
    Henrietta
    Beatrice
    Violet
    Wilhelmina
    Prudence
    Theodora

    Hope one of these appeals!

  295. This is so fun! Thanks for the opportunity.

    My names:

Hebe (Greek) – Hebe’s name literally means youth or in the prime of life. She was one of the daughters of Zeus and Hera. Her role was to serve the nectar and ambrosia to the Gods and Goddesses that prevented them from aging.

Selene (Greek) – Selene was the Titan personification of the moon, unsurprising then that her name means moon in Greek.

Juno (Roman) – Goddess of marriage, pregnancy and childbirth. Her name is derived from the root yeu meaning “vital force” indicating a more youthful, maiden Goddess

  296. Siglinde

  297. Such a neat cow…how about:
Magnolia, Savannah, Samantha, Margaret , Clarice or Daisy . For non-girl names I also like Clover and Buttercup.

  298. I like Lily Ida. The reason? You’ve got names starting with E, H, J, and A. All you’re missing for ELIJAH is L and I. Why Elijah? I have no idea. That’s just where my mind went when I looked at the other names! It’s an association thing, I guess. Regardless, I still like Lily Ida 🙂

  299. I love your new girl! She looks like a Matilda to me .. maybe Tilly for short? I have a small cow head painting that I purchased from the artist 30 years ago at an art fair. She has hung in my kitchen ever since. They do become friends 🙂

  300. I think she looks like a Bettina or Lisette or maybe Ilsa. This is beautiful picture and I think her name should reflect that !

  301. I think she should be called “Francine” which is my nickname for my granddaughter, Alina.
Sweet, but with an attitude 🙂

  302. Being raised on a dairy farm my favorite cow was named Bossie. She was the most stubborn cow, but I adored her.

  304. Florence. My grandmother’s name was Florence May, and when she was a child, people called her “Flossie May,” even though she hated it. She claimed it was a cow’s name. Now I have a cow paining in my living room and it always makes me think of her. (Which might make her cringe!) Never thought of naming my cow, though 🙂

  305. Penelope
    Hautense
White Face (my grandmother had a cow named that although she wasn’t a jersey)

So there is Addilyn, Celeste, Deirdre, Caydence, Daphne, Emmalyn, Amelia, Claudette, Francesca, Gisele, Gretchen and Imogene! Any of those names would suit that beauty of a cow! And kudos to Cindy for her gorgeous art!

  309. “Boochie”- at least that is how we spelled it. My grandpa was Welsh and that means cow. He grew up on the farm and when all the grand kids were together we were his “buwch babis” meaning baby cow or little one. I can still see him trying to round us all up to go in for supper or the family picture. Thanks for bringing back those memories today I’m sitting here at my desk at work laughing to myself.

  311. Oh gee, I wish you would request everyone to pick their favorite name .. one only! I made sure no one had the name Matilda before I posted that name but I stopped to talk to my husband before I posting my comment and low and behold bunches of others had already been posted .. including Matilda, on a long list with other names 🙁 Oh well. And not that you will be picking that name but it makes it harder for others to choose a name when some folks make long lists. Just venting 🙂

  312. How ’bout:

    Betsy
    Daisy
    Anna May
    Giovanna
    Felora
    Elinor or Eleanor

  317. “Cindy”

You would be paying homage to the aritist. As much as being called a cow my seem a bit insulting, I think that this girl might be an exception! Look at those curves! 🙂

  318. She looks just like our family milk cow when I was a little girl in Scotland, so she should be Sally.

  319. Jasmine!! She sweetly called out Jasmine to me.
I also like Jane Elizabeth- a regal double name
Trudy- after my stately sweet Mamaw!

  320. Frenchie
    or
    Francine …. Frannie
    or
    Beatrice … Bea

We have a herd of 6 cows each with a wee 4H calf at her side. I just love the broodyness of cows. They are such loving mothers! That is pry why you have such a love for cows….you are a Momma. 😉

  321. It has probably already been suggested, but first name I thought of when I saw your cow picture is “Daisy Mae”. I really enjoy your website….get lots of décor inspiration…. thx!!

  322. I love this picture, I would say she needs a fancy name to go with her pretty face.

    Lady Basilia

  323. Ok, I think it’s time to pay homage to your German upbringing…. so how about “Hildy”
(or some variation of that – Hilde, or Hildegarde, or Brunhilde?). But seriously, I think she looks like a Hildy! Thanks for a fun contest!

  324. I hear her speaking to me with a southern drawl, so my first choice is
    Scarlet. 😉
She also really looks like a
    Tellulah.
    or
    Myrtle
    Flora
    Fauna
    Belle
    Daphne
    Mary Jane
    Clarabelle
    Clementine
    Delilah

  325. The term “Holstein” derives from Old Saxon, Holseta Land, meaning “the land of those who dwell in the wood”

I think in honor of her name, she should be named “Fern”, as they love the woods 🙂

  326. Mabel – because she looks just like a milk cow that my Grandma had when I was growing up. She had her for years and we could drink right from her or squirt milk in the cats mouth from her. She was a gentle soul. And I remember the day they had to take her away, because she was to old to produce milk, and I cried!

  327. Used to collect anything cow… Love ypir cow paintings.

Lola or Bella are the two that come to kind…

    Or.. Lola Bella

  328. Pauline … I read this on wiki …”Perhaps the most famous Holstein was Pauline Wayne, which served from 1910 to 1913 as the official presidential pet to the 27th President of the United States, William Howard Taft. Pauline Wayne lived and grazed on the White House lawn and provided milk for the first family. Pauline Wayne was the last presidential pet cow.”

it was a Holstein cow that made me vegetarian – decades ago. I was eating beef for lunch and saw a vision of a cow with a sad face, and that was that!

  329. Okay one more. She looks like she could be sweet, sassy, and mischievous like Ann-with-an-E, from Anne of Green Gables. So how about Anne’s alter ego and everlasting desire to be called
    Cordelia… or
Lady Cordelia to the gentlemen cows. 😉

  330. My mother grew up on a farm, in Idaho in the 1920s,the youngest of four daughters out of seven children. As the girls were born, My grandmother would come up with the first name and my grandfather would come up with the middle name. My grandfather used the cow names for the middle names of his girls; Edith Eddy, Opal Effy and Mabel Violet. Thankfully, when my mom was born, he had run out of cow names! My eldest aunt got to do the honor, Donna Gayle. Im proud to say I’m named after her. No cow middle name!

I am partial to,the name Violet after my favorite aunt!

    1. I like the following names: and I am a terrible speller…

    Gertrude
    Lila grace
    Louella
    Charlotte
    Ida
    Inez
    Stella
Growing up I thought many of them too old fashion, now I love most of those names with the exception of one, sorry aunt gertie.lol

  337. I have 2 rescued bloodhounds. Their names are Dolly and Lucy and I think either one would be fitting for your new addition!

  338. okay, 2nd guess could be better:

  342. I don’t know why, but Tabitha came to mind when I first saw her. Love your cow collection.

  343. Maude or Maudie. Growing up a friend’s mother was like a second mother to me. Her name was Elizabeth Maude. Her sister was named Eulalie, so I always think of her whenever you mention your beloved cow. Elizabeth Maude would be good too!

  344. How about Bluebell? Buttercup? Clover? Dafony? Fiona? Florinda? Henrietta? Imogene?
    Lucinda? Verbena? Magnolia? Trixie? Violet?

    Yikes!!!

  345. She looks like a ROSALIE to me!

I went in a ditch along a country road one snowy winter day, and the entire herd of black and white hosteins in the pasture next to me came over to see what was going on. Very curious, those girls, and looked just like your fine specimen. Made me laugh while I waited for the tow truck!

  346. My birthday is Oct. 25th, the day the contest ends so, in honor of that, I suggest the name Linda Lou. If that’s too narcissistic of me, how about Francis, Nina, Tulip or Hollyhock?.

  348. I thought of another perfect name…
    Phoebe

    after a friend’s daughter
and an old sitcom nanny named Phoebe Figgerlilly

  349. My first thought when I saw her was June. She is a classic.
You need a painting of an angus or a Hereford!!

  350. I think Elvira to go with your other girls that have vowels at the beginning of their names. Or how about Etsy???

  351. She is beautiful. I am a firm believer that a name should have some sort of meaning. I love the name “Autumn” because she was given to you during this beautiful time of year. Each year when the leaves start to change you will be reminded of her beauty. I also think “Gracie” would be appropriate.

  352. The name Eulalie was a shock, because 1) I always had a weakness for the name (in the form Eulalia) and 2) the name that popped in my head was…

    Eugenia,
which is in turn a name for
    Myrtle.

My two cents. Love the chalkboard wall behind Hyacinth.

  353. So many good name ideas! I don’t know why, but for some reason Cleopatra popped into my head when I first saw her. But I also like Tabitha, Emmeline, Juniper, Noelle, and Holly.

  354. First I thought her name should be Bessie because I feel that every person on a farm with cows has at least one Bessie…then I thought of Beth until I heard the names of your other cows and thought Beth was just too plain. So my name for her would be MacBeth!

  355. Oh this one is my favorite! Shhh, don’t tell the other cows. I’d call her Maisey!

  356. Miss Ladidah – she looks like she could strut her stuff. I bet a bonnet on her would set her off just right. 🙂

  357. What about Mildred, Virginia, Myrtice, Chloe, Mabel, Lorena, Evelyn, Emmaline, Louise, (that one spot on her looks somewhat like the state of Louisiana), Henrietta, Joycelyn, Queen, Wifey, Agnes, Tressie, Annabell, Garnita, Marie? Best of luck in finding just the right name for her addition to the herd. Thanks for asking for out input into naming her.

  358. Mary
    Sally
    Susie
    Rose
    Emma
    Pauline

All the old fashioned names of my immediate family women. Cows are old fashioned somehow….timeless.

  359. Greta Is it. German in origin. It means pearl.

G is for gentle, the nurturing side of you.

  361. She looks like Agatha to me.

    Keen ears and thoughtful eyes,
    Swift tail for swatting flies.
Here’s a girl that is no mystery,
    Her name is Agatha!
    Like the shrewd Agatha Christy.

  362. I love Adelaide, or Madeleine (Madde), or Magdalena (Magda) 🙂 awesome painting…really think this cow infatuation is catching…feeling the need for a cow print myself

  363. I can’t help but be reminded of our cow when I was just a little sprout. .. she wasn’t black and white, but a nice blonde Jersey named Bessie. Not original, but old-fashioned and nice. Good luck with choosing a name!

  364. How about Maude. My Great Grandfather had a farm and his favorite cow was named Maude. My Mom has her cow bell in her china cabinet – when my sister’s and I were sick and home from school my Mom would give us Maude’s bell to ring when we needed her.

  365. Here goes:

    Beatrice (Bea for short)
    Cecily
    Veronica
    Bonnie
    Margaret (Mags)
    and of course
    Mabel!!

  366. Why not name her BEULAH! Beulah is a Hebrew name (Biblical) for ‘Bride’ This cow looks like she’s ready to be driven off into the sunset with her dearly betrothed.

    Hope you like it!
    Kind Regards,
Sheila from the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia

  367. Adeline, Alma, Hazel, Ivy, Sigra, or Gwendolyn. These are sweet vintage names that are coming back in for the younger generation…of cows. She looks kind of sweet, quiet and serene so these names seem to fit. They also seem to line up with the other cows’ names.

Or because her black spots are so shiny how about, Ebony? Or Ivory ?

    Those are MY picks!

    sandy

  371. Just thought of another one, but in this long list I’m sure it’s been suggested.
    Coralee

  372. LOVE that cow as much as you do so–I am suggesting a name that won’t hurt her feelings:)
Beulah——-Essie——–or just Girlie! If she is the last of your brood she can be called: Baby girl or Baby Sister! If she becomes orphaned, I will be a GREAT adoptive mom:)))
    Enough said.

  373. Grace…yep, Grace! Or Zelda…Or perhaps Josephine. Yes, those would be my choices. What FUN!!!

  374. Matilda loves her new home and family,
Miss Mustard Seed has give it lots of charm,.
    Eulalie, Hyacinth, Julia and Adele
Have welcomed her with open arms.

Miss Mustard See will find a wall for Matilda,
In a room that is all her own.
And there she will dwell upon her special wall,
    And never will she roam.

  375. She looks like a Mollie or Molly to me. I also like Eunice, as if she is Eulalie’s sister. Other possibilities are Kaleigh, Sophie, and Edna

  376. She looks like an Emma Bovary to me (named after that desperate French Country housewife of literary fame.)

or you could go German with Astrid, Annika, Ilsa, Hannalore, Katja, Petra, Ursula, Annalisa

or southern with Maudine, Emmaline, Harley, Beulah, Eula, Queeine, Maybelline, Scarlett, Magnolia, Camelia, or Ila (eye-la)

  379. How about Liza, Ethel Mae, Annaline (long “i vowel) or Violet? I love all your cow paintings. I have one of a mother and calf that makes my heart happy whenever I look at it. I’ve been yearning to get another cow painting and after seeing your collection I might just do so!

  380. Since it’s still Oktoberfest time and with a nod to your recent post…how about a German name? Like…

Greta, Bertha, Olga, Marta, Gertrude, Hildegarde, Heidi

Madeleine, Britta, Gerta, Ingrid, Helga, Henrietta, Wilhelmina

Bertha, Gretel, Adelaide, Dagmar, Giselle, Heloise, Matilda

  381. My darling girl and I think she looks like a classic, so we humbly submit ‘Elise’, as in ‘Für Elise’ by the greatly esteemed German composer, Ludwig van Beethoven. You could spell it creatively – ‘Elyese’ is quite pretty, I’d say! I have wonderful plans for those lovely ‘leftover hemp sheets if I’m blessed to be chosen! Thanks for the lovely contest!

  382. “Curiosity”

Items found at flea markets and little shops are often referred to as “curiosities.” I am sure you have wonderful memories of wondering through many curiosity shops. Plus it was the first word her expression brought to mind. She looks like an inquisitive cow.

  383. i just LOVE Cindy…her art AND her humor! i also love Georgia O’keefe….so i think “Georgia” would be a fitting name for this udderly gorgeous bovine….also, it’s just lots of fun to say “Georgia” with a thick southern accent!

  384. Rembert Julia. My Alabama-farm-girl mother proudly wore that name while on this earth. She looked great in black and was the consummate mother, much like your girl.

  385. Her name is HOLLY! After all, she is a Holstein, and just think how much fun you would have decorating around her during the Holidays . . . . .

    Alisier or Alice

    Valerie

    Tulip

    Aster

    Dahlia

    Olivia

    Marguerite

  388. I have only one that hit me right away, “Patience.” She has that look about her, and I think you have been waiting a long time for her to come home to you! 🙂

  389. My hubby’s cow’s name when he was little was “Flossie”, I also like: Bedelia (means strength) or Bernadette! She’s beautiful! I have a huge cow picture in my dining room and I call her “Jersey girl”

  390. Don’t see my previous names posted of Sadie or miss Sadie or Annabelle but just thought of Eunice too.

  391. Well, I’ve always wanted a cow named after me. 🙂 Emma?
or … one of those queens of country music:
    Loretta
    Dolly
    Reba, or
    Tammy

  392. When I was young we had a cow and I had named her Posy which I always considered the perfect cow name!

  393. I love the name “Gertie”…but that’s just me!
I also had two aunts, one in England named “Tess” and the other in Ireland named, “Bridie” love both of those ladies and their names!

  394. Looks like a Bessie to me or maybe a Constance which could be shortened to Connie. Patrice would make a cow contented as well.

  395. A beautiful German Holstein needs a beautiful German name. I think she looks like an Annelise.

  396. How about
    Camille, classy lady
    Millie Mae, a homebody
    Lessie Lou, a fun girl
Cissy, actually this was my childhood nickname and I always hated it. So forget Cissy.

  397. My most favorite dog ever was Lulubelle. when I saw your cow I thought of her……Then Emily. She is a most lovely cow!

  398. SARAPHINA- I think this is the perfect name for your new cow painting!! Eulalie and Saraphina are perfect together!

This name explanation was taken from a name website:

    Hebrew Meaning:
The name Seraphina is a Hebrew baby name. In Hebrew the meaning of the name Seraphina is: Fiery-winged. The name Seraphina comes from ‘seraphim’, who were the most powerful angels.

People with this name have a deep inner need for quiet, and a desire to understand and analyze the world they live in, and to learn the deeper truths.

  399. ….well my husband and I have a farm with cattle, chickens, horses, horses, cats etc……so this is fun!!!! okay, so I started thinking of old names, because a cow just needs a good old fashioned name, doesn’t she….well, I found so many that just said to me “gentle old cow name”…anyway, here are my many picks:
    Flossie
    Violet
    Gussie
    Lettie
    Fanny
    Naomi
    Ophelia
    Cordelia
    Vivian
    Frankie

    ….so enjoyed this………….smiles, Linda

  400. A few last suggestions…my mother is German. She is from Rottendorf a small town in Wurzburg. My mother’s name is Hannelore and her twin sister is Renate. My aunt’s name
is Herta. Might as well thrown in my Oma’s name Helene and great
grandmother-who I am named after- Teresa.

    I also like Eleanor.

  401. I think this sweet girl looks like a “Coralee”. My next choice would be “Flirty”.

  403. The name “Bess” popped into my head…well, first it was “Bessie” but then I liked “Bess”

  404. She’s a real beauty! We live on a farm with many cows but the two that are most special to us belong to my 11 year old son – he loves his cows and names each of them. His two favorites are LILLIE and PEARL – they both are so gentle. I think that either of those names would fit your new painting perfectly. She too looks like she would be easy going and love you right back.

  405. When I was a little girl my mother and I moved to Basel, Switzerland. We lived there for a period of two years. I had a best friend…her name was Brigitte (pronounced Bre – geet).

This cow looks young and sweet. Just as I remember my friend. 🙂

  406. Name that cow…
    Eudora…my fave!
    Calliope
    Prudence
    Eunice
    Alfalfa
    Matilda

  408. A few different ones come to my mind. They are Madeline, Gabriela, Fiona, Brynlee, Mavelle and Maddie. Have fun picking one as you have many wonderful creative followers!!

  409. Mable
    Mae
or Mable Mae (not sure why I’m thinking with M’s)
    Miss Margaret
    Clemintine
    Ivy Joe
    Eliza Jane
    Belle
    Madge
    Gertrude
    Opal

  410. I haven’t looked to much at the others posts but I think Madelyn is so fitting for this cow!

  411. I think I posted these on the wrong post… Oops, but I think Sue or Stella are cute also 🙂

  412. What about Loretta, Flossie, Muriel, or Laurel? All the names I have come up with are old relatives of mine!

  413. Husbands suggestions: Effsie (short for Frances Christina), Rebecca, Eloise, Zoey, Freida
My suggestions: Effie, Matilda Mae, Gracie, Maude, Nellie Belle, Henrietta, Penny-Sill-Vania, or Mona Moo (as in mon amis). Finally, Coco Leche.

  414. Love Hattie, Hattie Lou or Beulah … also Dottie or Sallie! She’s just wonderful w/any name!

  415. Brighetta Maria or just Brighetta:) My Oma’s name was Brighetta and while I’m not comparing her to a Holstein, I just think it’s a great name.
I’m naming our dairy cow (Jersey) Rosemary Buttercup, so if you want to borrow it for your Holstein you can;)

  416. I used to visit my grandfathers farm in Montana as a girl. He had a cow named “Suzie” that used to lead the cows back from pasture and I would ride on her back when we brought them in. But the cow in this picture reminds me of “Flossie” an old fashioned name for sure. Have fun choosing a name! 🙂

  417. Ursula, Henrietta, Beatrice, Eugenie… She looks like she needs an old fashioned name 🙂

  418. Thinking about your childhood in Germany, how about a German name for your new kuh malerei! 🙂

    Klara
    Silke
    Berta
    Elsa
    Eugenia
    Gretchen

    Ann

  419. She most certainly looks like a Genevieve….rather sophisticated without being udder-ly snooty.

  420. Eilene 🙂 my mom (Donna) & grandma (Olive) would be so proud, it’s their middle name;)
Donna and Olive might work too, but I’m sure I’m not the first to suggest those. 🙂

  421. My 3 year old daughter thought Lilac was a good name for the cow, but my vote is for Joy. She looks like a Joy 🙂 She is beautiful!

  422. Uh – this is an odd one. I see the country of Italy in the markings of your beloved new pet. Do you see it or am I crazy? Do you see the “boot” at the middle right?? Gosh, I hope so or I’m going nuts! Anyhow, for some crazy reason I took the time to look up Italian cow stuff which led me to famous Italian women, which led me to a name for you to consider (sorry, my mind works that way). Artemisia Lomi Gentileschi…. I would shorten the name to either Arte, Misia or Gentle. According to Google, Artemisia was probably the first great female Italian painter in the 1600’s and since you are a painter….. Ya – I told you that’s how my mind works…

    Good luck choosing a name!

  423. I have that same blue plate that is just over her head! She looks like ‘LuluBelle’ to me.

  424. My first thought…was Stella….(like slang for Stellar)
My next thought was Catchup……………(Miss Mustard Seed and….Catchup)!

  425. I’m going to have to suggest some beautiful Irish names for your new girl! So I will say that one of the following would be appropriate: Keira, Clodagh, Fionnula, or Saoirse!

  426. I love them all.

Gracie – because she has long eye lashes like my grand daughter
Estelle – because it sounds like a great country name
Lacy -because the pattern on her back reminds me of old engish lacy

  427. My aunt and uncle had a Jersey named Prince, so Princess for a girl cow. She kind of looks like a Nellie to me. I also like Joyele or Jolene.

  428. As soon as I laid eyes on her I thought ” Madalee” 🙂 Hope you like it! Or even Mandalee?
    Gracelyn, or Gracie?

  429. Hello Marian, What a beautiful painting! Completely understandable that you would be blown away. She is so sweet and gentle looking with such kind eyes and gorgeous lashes. Her name is Patience Pearl. Just look at her standing there so… patiently. Yeah… Patience. The Pearl is for her glowing personality, of course! hahaha! We’re looking into getting some laying hens in the spring and I can’t wait to involve the whole family in the naming process. I enjoy your blog so much ~ thanks!

    Stephanie 🙂

  430. umm…her name is Hortense…the Holstein. Hortense means “garden” by the way, so it’s a nice, bucolic name for a lovely bovine!

  431. I suggest Beatrice (or Beatrix). My childhood best friend is “Eulalia Beatrice”. I cannot imagine one without the other! You have a Eulalie…now you need a Beatrice (or Beatrix).

  432. I love names…I’ve been keeping records since I was 12 years old which seems like yesterday with Deborah being the first on my list but has now been relegated to the has-been’s! I’ve loaned my list to many a mom but never to a cow which is new to me. I’ve already made 2 postings so this will be my third and last as in baseball,…3 fouls and I’m outta’ here. My husband now wants a try so after I’m done, you shall be hearing from him 🙂

    Cow Names…
    Beatrix
    Effie
    Eudora…still a fave
    Loretta
    Haidie
    Stella

  433. Well when you showed us a close up a while back and I saw those eye lashes I thought of Tilda. Now looking at her full view and those BIG utters I though Bertha but that just doesn’t sound very sweet. But here’s my list:
Tilda, Mittie, Addie, and I guess I’ll include Bertha.

  434. Hyaleah. Call her Hylie. I had a great aunt with that name and her sister was Sophia — pronounced SO- FY- A.

  435. My grandmother was named Deenie. I always thought that was a cool name. Of course, Grandma was a cool chick.

  436. Abigail, Esther, Sophia, Marion -smile-. But, seeing as how that’s a Holstein and Holsteins originated in the Netherlands and northern Germany, I suggest Frieda, Berta or Bertha, Elfriede, Hildegard (a personal favorite), Helga or Sabine.

  437. I’m not sure if my first post went through here’s my names again, Stella Bella, Lucy, Ida Mae, Isabella

  438. Some of my favourites include Casey or Gwendolyn.

Holsteins originated in the Netherlands – being a Dutch girl myself, I would consider names like Aaltje, Neeltje, or Mina to be well suited. The “je” is pronounced almost like a “ch” sound.

Otherwise Pauline was the name of the first presidential pet cow, belonging to President Taft.

  439. As soon as I saw her I thought, that has to be Josephine! Love your blog, thanks for sharing yourself with us!

  440. I absolutely love all of Cindy’s paintings! She is truly talented!
The names that come to my mind when I look at your new cow painting are:
Lillian or Lilibeth, Genevieve, Ellamae, or Sadie.

  441. I think she has somewhat of a “What’s up” look on her face. I’m thinking maybe Buttercup. As in, What’s up Buttercup?

  442. Miss Talulah..she has that 1920’s flapper groove going, don’t ya think? All she’s missing is her long strand of pearls!

  443. Sadie, Esther, Jezabel, Madeline, Sarah Jane, Lilah, Billie Jean (that way every time you look at her you start singing that song, hahaha) actually i’m just kidding about that one, Naomi, Ruby (I don’t know why), Lisa (my name 🙂 ), Scarlett, Vivian, Olivia, Melanie (I like Gone with the Wind), Tara, Ashley (He was a wuss), Prissy…

  444. Isabella, Juliana, Mona, Bella, Ava, Ivy, and Onya are my favorites for this lovely bovine beauty! Maybe even Austina in honor of Cindy Austin would be a great choice.

  445. Hhhmmm….she’s definitely special.

Here are two names that just fit that beautiful and aloof young girl

    1. Lorelei
    2. EmmyLou

  446. Hmmm…a lot of great names…but….not the best one yet! Her name is Honeysuckle! I knew it the minute I looked into her eyes…and she whispered it in my ear too….LOL…oh, how I wish I had her in my back yard and Eulalie too…

  447. In honor of your affinity for blue and white china she should be called Willow, Blue belle, Flow, or Delphi

  448. “Tekla” My husband’s great grandma, born in Sweden and an immigrant to the USA, was named Tekla. Oh boy did that lady have spunk! Your new cow just looks like a spunky lady. BTW Tekla in Swedish means Divine fame.

  449. She is a beautiful girl – how about Adorabelle. She looks like she would use those lashes to get her way.

  450. I love the name Annabelle for a cow. There was a great child’s movie about a cow named Annabelle. I loved watching it with my kids.

  451. How about Layla or Cindyrella for a couple more choices? You are going to have quite a job selecting a name.

  452. How about Marianne she can have part of her adopted mothers name. “Marian” You did adopt her right!!

  453. Freckles, Tangerine Mustard, Boobelle, lulabelle,SweetMilk, Butterbelle,Blossom,Buttercup,MallowCup,Miss Blaze, and finally Gabby Lady!!!!

  454. In think, Miss Suise in honor of the recent cow festival held in Gindelwald, Switzerland. Or…She could easily be, Trudy in honor of a dear friend losing her battle with cancer that made the trek to be a part of the cow festival in Switzerland.

She also looks like a sweet, Hazel. What’s more homespun, country-farm life than Hazel?

    Miss Suise. Trudy. Hazel.

  455. She looks like a Mirabel, Eloise or Lucinda to me. Beautiful painting! All cows exude serenity, it seems.

  456. This was fun thinking of cow names! These are some names I could think of: Cecille, Cora, Nanette, Genevieve
    Or just cute: Oreo

  457. My suggestion comes with a story.. I live in Bama, and I grew up on a small family farm. We had Holsteins!! I had several favorite ‘pet cows’ through the years, but one stands out in my mind. The Momma-cow wouldn’t nurse her, so I had to bottle feed her (a chore that I ADORED). She followed me around like a puppy. She roamed around freely and would even climb the 8 steps of our deck to stare at us through the back door. I was really sad when she grew up and had to stay in the pasture. But, she came to visit almost everyday and would run up when she saw us in the fields.

I named her Miss Ukulele Lemonade. It’s such a fun name to say out loud! Yoo-ka-lay-lee-lemon-ade.

Your new painting is precious! She reminds me of Miss Ukulele, the curious expression on her face. Maybe a tad mischevious 😉

  458. Hi!! I have read through most of the suggestions on what to name this beauty and I really like quite a lot of them, but to me she looks like Tibby. I don’t know why, when I looked at her, it just popped into my head…Tibby.

  459. Since I couldn’t talk my daughter into naming my only granddaughter Violet, I’ll throw it out there for you!

  460. We had a wonderful milk cow named Clarissa. She was a graceful and beautiful cow. Clarissa always seemed to reign over the other cows and she always just held her head differently than the other cows. As a kid I called her Queen Clarissa. I think she would like having a painting of another beautiful cow as a namesake. I think the name should be, Queen Clarissa.

  461. I was going to say Belle but someone beat me to it, so I will say Annabelle but I also like the names Misty and Clarice.

  462. She looks like a Bluebelle. Your blog indicates that you like blue and …… it could possibly be a name for a color of future blue paint. Love reading your blog!

  463. I’m a cow fan too. Name suggestions:

Bridget , Lily , Lilian, Lucy, Carnation, Sweet Pea, Petunia , Violet, Rosey , Abagail,

Hilda (Hildegard) , Madelaine , Elizabeth, Liza Jane,

    Adelaide, Hendrika, Gretel

    Sorry…I got carried away!

  464. My first suggestion was Miss Ukulele Lemonade (explained in my first really long comment)..

Other pet cow names: Sweet Tater, Gertrude, Josephine, Aunt Pittypat, Jewel, Ruby Sue, Betsy-Rose, Betty Lou, Aunt Bea, Birdie, Roseanne, Dolly Parton, Mammy, Miss Weezer.. I could go on and on!

  465. Did you ever watch Keeping Up Appearances on PBS……… Three sisters , Hyacinth, Rose, Daisy and Violet. Your cow has the look that Hyacinth would give to people that she didn’t like . This show was so funny. Since Hyacinth is already taken it needs to be Violet, Rose or Daisy.

  466. My first thought was “Buttercup” but then I remembered an old movie with Don Ameche and Gene Tierney as turn of the century married couple. Ameche has a wandering eye and Tierney leaves him and returns to her father’s ( his name is E.F. Storable) prosperous dairy farm whose entry gate features a large portrait of his prize milker MABEL.
Ameche’s grandfather (played by Charles Coburn) accompanies Ameche to the dairy farm to convince Tierney (her character’s name is Martha) to give him another chance. They are successful and are fleeing from an Martha’s irate father when Coburn turns around in the open carriage and hollers back to the father ” Farewell, Farewell, dear EF Strable, we’ll take Martha, you keep Mabel “.
Never seen a Holstein since I saw that movie that I don’t think of Mabel!!!!

  467. I love the name Aletheia – pronounced Uh-LAY-thei-uh
In Greek literature, especially the New Testament, It means ‘truth.’
You shall know Aletheia, and Aletheia shall set you free.
Youthful and truthful; seems to fit… AND she could be called Allie for short.

  468. When I first looked at her, Talulah popped into my head! or Talulahbelle!

    Love all your “girls”!

  469. Me again. How about Flossie? That’s a great name for a cow! Martha? Gertrude? Matilda? Ruby? Mildred? I need to go to bed 🙂

  470. How about Ma Belle ( french for , my beautiful

Or Mon Ami ( my friend)

Or Mon Mignon ( my cutie ) ( filet Mignon means a “cute or dainty filet ”
I am partial to this last one. I wouldn’t have guessed mon Mignon is related to a cow!

  471. I like the name….Nellie
    or…..Scout….or…..Miss Scout
    or……Charlotte…or…..Miss Charlotte
    or……Pumpkin
    or……Hattie…or…..Miss Hattie
    or…….Millie
    or……..Adeline..or……Miss Adeline
    or……..Felicity
    or……..Lillian….or…..Miss Lillian
    or……..Lilly
    or……..Pearl
    or …..Ruby….or Miss Ruby
whew!!!! that’s all I can think of!!!!!
    thanks…Josette

  472. My first thought was Estelle. Looked through a couple of hundred comments not sure if someone else thought of this too.

  473. Ginnie, short for Virginia (where I live)….Love, love, love the cows! I see them everyday driving to and from my home. Their sillouette in the evening when they are standing on the hill with the backdrop of the early evening sky is so beautiful!!

  474. I’m certain she must be Daisy Mae! Every cow needs a middle name, after all.

You remind me of a friend with a kitchen filled with pigs – It was a huge kitchen too!

  475. Loving the 3 names, Maisey, Moo-iesha, & Maybelle ( my favorite) per Tami’s suggestions.
My personal suggestion would be “LOVEY” ….
    Sherry

  476. Nelly…Violet…Molly…Eliza…Flora…Lavinia…Amaryllis…Cordelia…Beatrice…Aurora…Trudy…Dolly…Trixie…Hester…Lulu…Olympia…Philomena…Ambrosia…Guinivere…Clementine

  477. I love thinking of names. It’s all I did whenever I was expecting a bundle from heaven.

    Eloise
    Amelia
    Freya
    Ilsa
    Giselle
    Naomi
    Elke
    Danka
    Yasmin
    Frieda
and my favorite blues singer, Etta James
(Her greatest hit was “At Last”)

  478. She looks like a Petunia to me…then she could have a little calf sister names Pansy. BTW, I absolutely love Eulalie! I’ve been looking for a cow painting since I ‘met’ her, lol!

  479. Everytime someone suggests “Gracie,” (or says, “Good Night, Gracie!”) it tickles my heart. There’s a youthfulness about the name, which is appropriate for a young cow, and she appears to have a sensitive, graceful way about her, don’t you think? How innocent her demeanor ~ quietly standing, gazing at you without fear or aggression. Gracie knows who she is: a sweet, simple girl who is loved and cared for. What greater blessing is there for any creature on God’s earth?

  480. Hard to choose just one. Loralee sounds like a sweet old fashioned name that goes well with Adele, Julia, Hyacynth, and Eulalie, don’t you think?

  481. Hi Marian!
Been following your awesome blog for some time now – you’re doing a GREAT job!
How about Elvira, Vivian or Esmeralda?

    Keep up the great work!

  482. Hello! I have always loved the farm life and the beautiful black and white holsteins, I say her name should be “BETSY” or Miss Betsy 🙂

  483. …they actually spelled it Truly in the movie “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”, Truly Scrumptious!!! So either spelling. 😀

  484. I grew up on a farm and had a pet cow that I called Bluebell, Belle for short. This was way before Bluebell ice cream came on the scene. I would go out to the barn and she would be laying down; I would sit beside her and lean up against her and she never moved! Sweet Memories.

  485. I know I already suggested Beullah and Tallulah, and I still think they’re sweet Southern names, but today I really see her as a Clementine. Darlin’ Clementine. (And I’m a northern Yankee, no less, but somehow I think the Southern names are friendlier. 😉 )

  486. She is truly beautiful. Trudie, Baylee, Matilda, Priscilla, Virginia, Lilly, Rosie……can’t wait to see what you pick for her and I love this contest idea. Women are so creative. 🙂

  487. I’ve already suggested Viola after my mom, but I got to thinking there are two pronouncations of it.
My Mom’s nickname is Vi (with a hard i) and that’s how her name is pronounced. It’s the flower version like violet.
Then there is the musical instrument viola. That’s pronounced veola.

So with this name, either one sticks with your cow name theme 🙂

  488. rorschach, as in the psychological test where they show you black and white blobs and you say what you see – may be too obscure??

  489. I’m thinking Audrey…after Audrey Hepburn. It looks like she is wearing little black pumps like the very classy Ms. Hepburn always wore.

  490. The first time I saw her the name Delilah came to mind. Honoring your German roots, how about Mutter – or – Moo-ter???

  491. I think Marguerite (which also is a type of Daisy), or Audrey. She is a very elegant cow! I might have to have the print!

  492. Beulah
    Sissy
    Mindy

a chuckle for you…….when my husband was in his teen years, my father-in-law had retired from the Air Force so he bought a farm, the family built their house, and they began farming. my husband and his siblings had a pet calf. they named him/her “Hamburger”, because they all knew what was going to happen 🙂

  493. Oh my Goodness!!! Your “name a cow” contest is a huge success!!!
The names that came to when I first saw her were
MOLLY OR BESSIE! I, leaning more towards Bessie, she looks young!

Now, since three million people have voted, and I can say more names, I will venture a different name: how about Genevieve ???

    Have fun!!!!
    Claudine

  494. Bernadine.
A good old Frisian name for a beautiful Frisian/Holstein cow. Hyacinth, Julia, Adele, Eulalie and Bernadine – I think that would work pretty well 😉

  495. Now that is a bovine lady with some attitude! Look at the expression on her face! Love her!! My suggestions are Prudence, Augusta, Imogene, Myrtle, Blanche, Engenia, or…Ruby!

Good luck naming her, she’s a beaut!

    Debbie

  496. I like these:

    LULABELLE
    CLARA
    CLARISSA
    MAGGIE
    CLARABELL
    LILY
    MARJORIE
    MARIGOLD
    ROSIE
    ATHENA
    PHEOBE

  497. For some reason, she looks like a Sylvie to me.

    Or perhaps a Lady Emily?

Other thoughts: Adeline, Amelia, Portia, Septima, Daisy, Layla

And since cows are sacred in India, I thought some Indian or Hindu names would be worth thinking about: Chandra, Avani, Indira, Kama, Kumari, Lakshmi, Priya, or Shanti.

  498. Lily.
We have a famous cow in our town’s history named “Lily Flag” she was the top butter producer in the world in 1892 and she was from Huntsville Alabama! We have streets named after her and ball parks etc!
    I vote for Lily!!

  499. Oh, I love the idea of naming her Brigitte as suggested before. However I think she looks like an Isabella, maybe call her Izzie for short. I’m sure she’s a Southern cow! Couldn’t you just see her living in a field near Pike Road?

I LOVE my pig cutting board!

    Brigitte

  500. Odile or Odille (same name different spelling, pronounced: “Oh-dill”) I just think it is fun and different. Beautiful painting! I also really like Queenie (suggested above)

  501. She looks like a Francesca to me, strong, feisty, independent, a female who knows who she is and lets you know that by the way she stares right back at’cha. Francesca!!!

  502. I grew up helping my grandpa with his dairy farm. When he had open-heart surgery it was me and my sister who did the milking before school for awhile. This cow is beautiful, reminds me of some of my grandpa’s cows.
I think MaeBelle, or Bess, or Evelina.

  503. My first name that came to mind when I saw her was Alifair but I also have a few more I will just throw out there and they are Azure, Sapphire, Blue, Iris, Ava, Star, Pansy, Elka, Ursula, Angelface, Bellflower, Arabella, Gretchen, and Ingrid. I think a few of these has already been mentioned. I think she is adorable!!! Maybe Dorabell !!! lol

  504. I don’t know if anyone has suggested this yet because I haven’t read all the posts, but I like ADELINE.

Thanks and good luck. I’m sure you’ll pick a very fitting name for her.

  505. Seems I’m not the only one that thinks this may be a French cow. There is just something flirtatious in those eyelashes. How about Colette? Also my daughter’s name but she goes by Coco so they won’t be confused.
    Ali

  506. Another name I thought of was Grace because as I was looking at her I noticed she looks very aristocratic and dignified with her graceful stature, long lashes, hooves that look like she is wearing pumps and her black and white pattern is flawless.

  507. Grace, because she is standing there looking aristocratic with her dignified stature, long eyelashes, hooves which looks like she is wearing pumps, and her black and white pattern which is flawless.

  508. I like Penelope, Margaret, Mabel, Amelia, Beatrice, Clarabelle, Elsa, Genevieve, Lillian, Pearl, or Violet. I could go on…but I’ll stop there.
    She’s beautiful!

  509. I like PETUNIA the best. Other favorites include Margeux, Alice, Agnes and Ethel. 🙂

  510. She seems like a “Fiona” or “Charlotte.”

With that direct gaze I’m sure she expects a proper name. I haven’t looked at any other names so I hope these aren’t duplicates. Looking forward to the final selection.

  511. How about: Tallujah, Prudence, Clemantine, Ethel Mae, Fanny, Gertrude, Hazel, Betsy, Amelia, Constance, Betty Lou, Esmeralda, Ida, Minnie, Gwendolyn, Asta, Lucille/Lucy, Scarlett, Savanah, Justine, Orla, Hattie, Penelope, Geraldine, Flossy, Daisy, Rosie, Lucinda, Blanche, June, Hildegarde, Doris, Winnie, Marilyn, Ava, Harlow, Genevive, Geneva, Mildred, Patience, Sophie, Sophia, Dorothy, Winifred, Rosebud, Dixie, Buttercup, Trixie, Delores, Maxine, Margaret, Aida, Greta, Roxy, Violet, Annie, Delilah, Francesca, Fiona, Gertie, Ophelia, Juliette, Seraphina, Gladys, Miss Ellie, Eleanor, Zelda, Olivia, Miss Moo, Bertie, Mattie, Loretta, on and on and on.

  512. Will all of the comments posted already, I could see almost every name being suggested! Without reading through them, I vote for Geraldine, Adalaide, Abilene, Eleanor, Hess, Ethel, Mary Lou, Caroline.

May think of more later – love the new cow!

  513. Esther. I thought immediately of the character, Esther Hoffman Howard that Barbra Streisand played in “A Start Is Born.” Pretty,Young, Courageous, looking the world head on and ready to enjoy and experience all life has to offer.

  514. I just thought of the perfect name for your new cow painting. Let me tell you the story behind the name. Abraham Lincoln’s sister-in-law, Elodie Todd, was born in our city, and she is buried here. I’ve always liked her first name because it is unusual. It is pronounced EL-O-DEE, with the accent on the DEE. It rhymes with MELODY, I think Eulalie and Elodie sound wonderful together, don’t you?

  515. Here are my suggestions: Myrtle, Trula, Elsie, and Helen. These are the names of my great grandmothers and grandmothers and while most people wouldn’t consider having a cow named for them, I don’t think they would mind a bit. My papaws both raised cows. think that I will always have remembrances of my childhood when I see one. If those names don’t inspire you, I also like Forsythia and Rosemary 🙂

  516. What a fun contest and a lovely painting. Some names of cows that I was blessed to have as pets growing up are: Bonnie, Betsy, Biscuit, and Betty Lou. (we had a “B” them for some reason) I also like Naomi to me it is a strong and gentle name, just like your new cow looks like. Another option is Marilla (like from Anne of Green Gables). I also like Petunia, Jasmine, Stella,, Georgia, and Fay.

  517. Well, she looks pretty solid. Like she would defend her spot and even the entire herd if need be. She looks like the gatekeeper. So I would say she is steadfast. A name that means steadfast = CONSTANCE
or she could be the ruler of the estate – HENRIETTA means “estate ruler”
or maybe she just “blesses” and “brings joy” in which case you should name her BEATRICE OR BEATRIX

  518. ella
    rosie
    mavis
    penelope
    beatrice
    Jean
    stella
    vera
    agnes
    amelie
    agatha
    cecilia
    clara
    dollie
    ida
    clarabelle
    Cora
    cordelia
    Eleanor
    ellamae
    fern
    eliza
    Leonora
    June
    elsa
    erma
    esme
    ethel
    harriet
    gretta
    gwendolyn
    ida
    Josephine
    matilda

  519. I also like the name MAGDALENA. And my first thought was that she looks a little bossy. The closest name meaning I could find was for MATILDA which means mighty, which is a loose synonym for bossy..

  520. Congrats on your new bovine friend! I think she looks like her name would be Melba, BTW ~the name Melba was at the height of it’s popularity in 1920, certainly due for its comeback!

  521. I believe Holsteins originated in Friesland, so how about Freesia? She would look good with any color flower.

  522. My first impression was: Bessie. But, after seeing Shelley’s suggestion; Miss “Moo-ster” Seed……….cracked me up, love it. Very creative!

  523. My first impression was: Bessie. But, after seeing Shelley’s suggestion; Miss “Moo-ster” Seed……….cracked me up, love it! Very creative!

  524. Sarah, Allie, Milky, Ada, Rosa, Cali, Goldie, Girl, Octobre, Joy, Brynn, Blue, Bonnie, Aileen, Cliona, Aideen, Maeve

  525. I dreamed about this contest last night…Really,,,,I still like my submissions
    Prosper
    Glory…

they sound better each time I hear them…but in my dream Annabelle was the name that one.

  526. She looks like she’s just saying “What are you looking at? I know I look terrific!” – like Candace Bergen in Murphy Brown – so Candace or Murphy.

  527. Hey!
    The cow from GYPSY!!!
I have a moo cow, a new cow, a true cow, named Caroline!! Moo-moo-moo- moo. She’s an extra special friend of mine. moo-moo-moo- moo.I like everything about her fine!
She likes to moo in the moonlight, when the moody moon appears..and when she moo’s in the moonlight…gosh it’s moosic to my ears- she’s so moosical!

  528. This is fun! How about :
    Theodora
    Emelia
    Elsie Mae
Georgina or Georgie ( after the new prince)
The Duchess ( in honour of Kate Middleton)
    Alexandra
Honora (pronounced hawn ora) or Honey for short -she does look honourable!
Catherine (after Catherine the Great or maybe Catherine The Great
    Penelope
    Francine
The suggestion of Gladys made me laugh.
My mother in law’s name was Gladys and my father in law always called her “happy bottom”.

  529. She’s beautiful! How about LuLu or Belle? Or maybe LuLu Belle? Annabelle one Elsie. Good luck!

  530. Holsteins originated in the Netherlands so I was thinking Dutch names of women artists would be fun and a tribute to Cindy Austin, as well.

    Dutch women artists:

    Wilhelmina Walburga “Wally” Moes (1856 – 1918)
Wilhelmina was also the name of the queen, inaugurated in 1898, and, let’s face it, this girl looks like a queen in the making!

    Henriëtte H. Ronner-Knip (1821 – 1909)

    Margaretha (Vogel) Roosenboon (1843 – 1896)

    Thérèse (van Duyl) Schwartze (1852 – 1918)

And here are some Dutch girl names:
    Adrie
    Aleta
    Alida
    Alina
    Aline
    Alva

    Arabell and Arabella
(two of my favs. “Bell” at the end of a name automatically brings to mind a cow exactly like the girl in Cindy’s painting)

    Betje
    Grietje
    Griseldis
    Grushilda
    Maartje
    Margo
    Mariken
    Marieke
    Saskia

    Cornelia (horn)
In ancient Rome, Cornelia was considered the paragon of womanly virtue,

    Just good ole’ cow names:

Borden’s famous Elsie had several calves; their names:
    Beulah, Larabee and Lobelia

Damona–Irish cow goddess; in Gaul, a healer goddess known as the Divine Cow
Pauline–President Taft’s cow, the last cow to live at the White House!!! Who evn knew cows ever lived in The White House?

Some girls’ names from the 50s. I don’t know why but all girls’ names from the 50s sound to me like they should be cow names.
    Darlene
    Evelyn
    Gwendolyn
    Norma
    Loretta
    Carla
    Geraldine
    Josephine
    Priscilla
    Gladys

    Mabel
    Lottie
    Maribeth
    Nannette
    Lawanda
    Velda
    Wanda
    Madeleine
    Oralia
    Esmeralda
    Dahlia
    Imogene
    Selma
    Milicent

Well, you said enter as many as we wanted! LOL. I love doing the research on this kind of thing. It’s a wonderful painting and I’m not sure I could name her. What could possibly compete with Eulalie!

    Good hunting on this one,
    Alexis

  531. Hows about Beulah…that sounds cute…or perhaps one of the girls from Petticoat Junction??? Billie Jo, Bobbie Jo, or Aunt Bea?

  532. Just for fun a couple of more like Genieve, Hilary or Hilaria, Felicity, Bernadette, Magdelen, Martha, Beatrice, Charity, Anastasia and Ursula.

  533. As a child we had a gracious lady that looked just like your new cow. Her name was Miss Katie and was named after a maiden aunt that had given us this cow. Never Kate or Katie…it was always Miss Katie.

  534. I’m back..Nancy from Wisconsin where we’re all about cows…

    Ursula
    Phoebe
    Ameretta
    Florence
    Rue
    Agatha
    Eudora (still a fave)
    Babette
    Simone
    Tallulah
    Scout

  535. Maybe….

    Lula

I think it goes nicely with all her heifer sisters’ names. Especially well with Eulalie.

    Lula Bell

    Louella

    Lilly…..Simple and sweet

    Lilly Belle

    Lilly Jo

    Ava

    Ava Belle

    Gerdie

    Gordie

    Petunia……my fave!

Good luck everyone 🙂 This was so fun!!

    XO, Laura

  536. I love her work. One of these days I hope to have one of my own…
Gracie -because she has long eyelashes like my granddaughter
Estelle -because she needs an old fashion country farm girl name
Lacy -because she looks like she is wearing a battenburg shawl on her back

  537. People that given you so many suggestions that are indeed lovely. To me she looks like. ” Mrs. Henry” or maybe Miss Lacey”

  538. First of all, I’ve been mildly obsessed with your blog, your home, and your paint for a while now. Also, thoroughly enjoyed your book! So, now that you know I’m a total stalker, on to cow names…
I think Daffodil, or maybe Layla… Or Betty. Or maybe something French-ish, like Matilda, Maude, Jessamine, or Fontaine or Fleur.
Look forward to hearing what you choose!

  539. I grew up on a dairy farm with Holsteins. We didn’t name them, just too many! However, one stood out from the rest and she was a Bessie. Someone has already mentioned that and Daisy as well which was the first name that came to mind. So I will choose Genevieve or Dulce.

  540. I know I’m to late but she looks like Lucy my granddaughters cow.
    Maybe Lucille for more dignity.

  541. My cow head is named after my favorite cow from our farm when I was growing up…Bessie. She was a Hereford though I think it is a fine cow name. I think your girl is more of a Jenny, Missy, Sophie, or a Bernice(my top pick for her). She looks like she has some spunk, but will make a terrific milker someday:) I apparently put ALOT of thought into cow names, lol!!

  542. My grandmothers: Avie Irene and Bonnie Jean and my hub’s grandmothers: Vergie and Loene
