I shared a few of my Lucketts finds yesterday and thought I would share the other two today.

So, it’s Sunday afternoon at the market and things are a little slow.  I had spent most of the day rearranging furniture as things sold and as sprinkles came and went.  The rest of the time, I was hanging out in a folding chair or behind the counter.  I finally wanted to take a stroll around with some pocket money to see if I could find any bargains.  I already had my patio set and some ironstone, so I was just looking for small things that “spoke to me.”  Kriste, Jeff and I headed down to a tent we hadn’t been to, but I bought an architectural blueprint from last year, so I know the vender usually has some cool things.  We were chatting with the vendor and a tall, steel rack that I was standing next to caught my eye.  It didn’t have a tag on it and I was curious.

I motioned towards the rack, “Just out of total curiosity, how much is this?”

I could tell the vendor was excited that I was asking.  “Okay, ready?  It’s 150 bucks.”

I was honestly expecting somewhere in the neighborhood of $800 and there wasn’t a remote possibility I would even think about purchasing it.  I couldn’t help myself and blurted out, “$150?!  Are you serious?!  How did this not sell?”

I looked over at Jeff and he knew I was about ready to ask him if we could take this huge steel cart home.  Kriste pointed out that it would be a great drying rack for painted samples in the studio, when we hold workshops.  He nodded, knowing it was a fantastic price for such a cool piece.  I could see he was conflicted, though, because we only had a 10′ truck and my minivan to get everything home and this cart was a beast.  I made doe eyes.  He smiled and nodded.  (I didn’t really make doe eyes, but I’m sure I cringed or looked hopeful or something that convinced him it was worth the effort.)

Here’s the cart we bought…

Isn’t it amazing?!  It is literally a baker’s rack that would be filled with bread and rolled into a huge commercial oven to cook all of the loaves at once.

It came with every single rack that can be removed/rearranged to make taller shelves.

I filled it with all of the ironstone that didn’t sell at Lucketts.  As you can see, we still have quite a lot left.

We’re going to use this cart in the studio for now, but I can picture it in a kitchen, large bathroom or laundry room…anywhere you needed some deep, adjustable shelves.

I still can’t believe it was only $150.  Craziness.

So, we already had this huge cart to fit into the truck and we were trying to figure that out when Eddie from Jalapeño Photography, also a vendor at Lucketts, came over and asked if I wanted a free sofa.  This wasn’t just any sofa.  This was a wood-framed tufted sofa from Belgium.  She had asked Cassie of Primitive & Proper if she was interested and Cassie knows me well, so she sent Eddie my way.

I followed Eddie to her booth and accepted the freebie gladly. I was so excited that I carried it in flip-flops, walking backwards, all the way back to my booth where Jeff and David had started loading our truck that was obviously too small to fit both of my most recent acquisitions.

Jeff needed a minute when he saw the sofa and was informed we would be taking it home.  I was pretty confident it would all fit, but I misjudged the height of the truck and we needed to implement “plan B”, which was to call my dad.  He drove his truck down, so we could haul it all home.  And it all made it!

Here’s how the sofa looks now…

You can see the potential in it!  It does need to be reupholstered, but the “bones and guts” are in good shape.

So…blue velvet or nubby cream hemp linen?  I know it’s going to be a bear, but I am going to keep the tufting when I redo it.  It’s just too beautiful to fill in.

Kriste and I spent the day putting everything away from Lucketts and straightening up the studio.  We also unpacked and sorted all of the things that didn’t sell.  We need to give some of the furniture pieces a bit of love and get things displayed in a nice way and then I’ll snap some pictures for you and we’ll list some smaller things in the online shop.

If you’re local and are interested in checking out the leftovers, just let me know!

Oh they’re both amazing!! I can’t believe that sofa was a freebie, it’s just amazing. I’m voting for blue velvet.

Lucketts is on my bucket list. One day I’ll make the trip (I’m from Australia) and come visit.

    2. Jan

      Score!!!!!

      Bobby Vinton that sofa……blue velvet!

    3. Botanic Bleu

Did the little blue stoneware crock sell? If not, I am interested. The sofa is going to look AMAZING!

    4. Tracy@www.bluridgevintage.com

WOW!!! Two great finds and both at great prices….free and just an overall steal. That rack has so much potential it is crazy. I can’t believe the prices either, these monsters usually cost as you suspected $800.00 plus. Okay, the soft… no words on this because free just says it all. The bones do look great and I can’t wait to see what you do with it.

    5. Christina

You have such beautiful items. I wish I lived nearby your store. Do you ship small items to say PA? I hope to one day get to visit your store and go to Lucketts.

    6. Fiona, Lilyfield Life

you scored!! the bakers stand and the sofa are fabulous.

    7. Betsy Gordon

I just love the drying rack, it’s so versatile.

Now, that sofa is a dream. Wow, and free to boot. I would love to see it in a creamy linen color.

I’ve missed another Lucketts (I’m in Atlanta) but it’s totally on my bucket list.

Looks like you had a great sale and fun. You must be thrilled!

      Betsy

Good morning Marian! I love your finds! I also love the ironstone pedestal on the rack…will it be in your online shop? I love and collect pedestals! Thank you, Lori

    9. Barb Tilton

See? Size does matter. I’m sure lots of people drooled over that huge bakers rack and wished they had a truck to haul it home in! Excellent score. I’m jealous.

    10. cassie @ primitive & proper

blue velvet so we can be twins…. but seriously i LOVE my blue velvet sofa with the wood frame…. it makes my entire living room. i vote blue velvet! and i am so glad you took it…. i was sad to say no to eddie, but i don’t have the skills and i knew you could work wonders with it.
also LOVE that rack and yes so weird that it didn’t sell prior, but a) it was a weird weekend for furniture and b) it was meant to be yours.

    11. Lori

WOW!!! Just wow…..absolutely LOVE both items. And all that IRONSTONE. I cannot believe it did not sell. I would have had a real problem not carrying it all home with me. LOL 🙂

    12. Alice R.

Love, love the bakers rack! It would also be perfect in my quilting studio. 😉 There is a lesson there. Since I rarely can afford what people want for their large pieces, I never ask if there is no price tag. You did, so it’s yours. Good lesson for us all.

    13. Susan M

I laughed with recognition that you found the baker’s rack while shopping for “small things”! Doesn’t that always happen?! Haha. What a find! You were meant to have it. I wish your husband would offer workshops to our husbands on how to be supportive when their wives shop! Have a fun and restful holiday weekend, Marian.

    14. Tammy

Love both of those pieces! Wow!!!

    15. Teresa

That French provincial sofa is going to look amazing after you work your magic! I cant visualize blue velvet so I am voting for cream hemp linen.

Your dad is a real sweetie for driving his truck back down to pick up the sofa and he can pack a piece of ironstone like no other. It took me 15 minutes to get all the wrapping off my purchase..

    16. Donna C.

Amazing finds! So sweet! You are one lucky girl!

    17. Suzy

I LOVE LOVE the bakers rack !! <3 There is an Italian bread bakery in my hometown of Syracuse NY that still uses these racks.

    18. Marjorie Morningstar

LOL Did you sell anything or did you just buy?

    19. Anya

Goodness, what a fabulous baker’s rack. I can see you using that for so many different things! You really have a knack for acquiring these unique objects, or maybe they just have a way of finding you! My vote for the sofa is blue velvet. It sure does have good bones, its beautiful!

    20. Jessica

That SOFA!!! Oh my, that is going to look FABULOUS when you refinish it… I can’t wait to see what you do with it! I vote hemp linen with that tufting…

    21. Pamela @ FlowerPatchFarmhouse.com

Before I even read a word of this post I spotted that rack and thought what an awesome drying rack for my painted items. Kriste and I must be on the same wave length. 🙂

    22. Stacey

I wish I were near you then I would come and buy all the things that did not sell at Lucketts!
I definitely cast my vote for the cream hemp linen…..or a greige!

    23. cookie

I am so jealous… Have been collecting white pottery now, especially when I stay in Florida for the winter. Where is this Lucketts? I just might have to put it on my Bucket List

    24. Gina

Can’t believe you didn’t sell all your goodies. I would die to be able to purchase many of your leftovers. I can’t seem to find anything like what you have here in Southern California.
Give us a chance to get some of those gorgeous ironstone pitchers, casseroles, creamers and such without having to drive to PA. Thanks for whatever you can do! Want my home to look like yours. I’ll keep reading my emails.

      Gina

    25. Carol

Gorgeous!!! All of it! I am interested in the small scalloped ironstone pudding mold ( I think that’s what it is ) on the second lowest shelf as well as the scalloped sugar bowl (?)! Do you ship to Canada? or a post office box in the US?Can you tell me the prices for these? 🙂

Thanks! And, Blue Velvet… or blue and white toile

Good Morning Ms. Luckett or is it Ms. Lucky?
Unbelievable finds but the kicker is the freebie sofa. You must be smiling your biggest smile ever through your darkened eye circles and your colorful bruises which made all that you endured a “blessing in disguise.” The bruisies and the sleepless nights will go away but the sofa will forever remain a memory of the graciousness of all peoples. You mentioned on your post that if a person is local, you’ll get a list together of your leftover goodies which you’ll be selling. WIsconsin isn’t local nor am I ( debateable) but I could be local since my suitcase is already packed.and because hubby owes me one! Please let me know the details and I’ll be there! 🙂 Our son lives near the Shenadoah Park in Virginia so a visit to you both would be like killing 2 birds with 1 stone….only better. Enjoy your sofa along with a good rest as you deserve it.

    26. Liz

Blue velvet! It’s long enough to make a great nap couch & velvet is the perfect softness for naps. Awesome rack!

    27. Liz

Blue velvet! It’s a perfect nap couch & velvet would be soft and naplicious! The rack is an amazing purchase, you have a great eye for unique & beautiful finds.

    28. Lara

O M g – I LOVE that rack – and that couch?!? I’m in awe that you only paid $150 for both of them! My vote is blue velvet~ LOVE IT!

    29. Nancy W

      Whoops…
I already created a post but somehow this appeared so I’ll say it again…LUCKY! Here is my 2 cents worth on upholstery for your sofa. Velvet is so yesteryear which is my thought only! There must be another fabric out there just awaiting your keen eye; I know you’ll find it! As with everything else you do, luck is on your side…oh yah! You go Ms. Mustardseed/aka Ms. Luckett 🙂

    30. Brenda

Love the baker’s rack. I have been wanting one for my sewing/music/studio. It would be perfect to store works-in-progress on trays. Everything kept in perfect order and ready to work on. Good find!

    31. mary m young

Over ten years ago I bought a genuine wooden bakers rack from a local emporium. It held an
amazing amount of stuff in our family room. I gave it to our son to enjoy. I think I paid about
$300 so you have a bargain.

    32. Naomi S.

WOWDY-DOW!!! Both the baker’s rack (authentic!) and the sofa are to die for! And the price–actually, only $75. each! Good going, girl!

About the sofa upholstery…I think the blue velvet would be really rich-looking if it were toward a navy color, but the hemp linen might bring it more into the present. Also, I think it might depend on what you plan to do with the wood. I could see it painted with the blue velvet, but maybe leave it like it is with the linen. If it cleans up well. I will be interested to learn what you decide.

    33. Docia Fuller

Please post ironstone your online store!

    34. Debbie

WOW!!!! That sofa!!!! I’ve been looking for this in my area (southern California) for a while now. I can’t find it and it came to you as a dream :). I’m SO happy for you and can’t wait to see you reupholster it. I vote linen :).

    35. Jelena

That’s a gorgeous sofa! I can’t wait to see what you do with it, Marian!

    36. Karin

Hi Marian – I would love to take a drive to see what did not sell. Are you able to email a list with photos? It would most certainly be worth the few hour drive! I hope to hear from you.

    37. Beth

I know that feeling…something you know that’s meant to be…you can only hope the price is right…and it is! SQUEE!!!! It is!!! Congrats! Those deals are few and far between!

    38. Donna

      Cream and don’t paint it!!!

    39. Breezy

It would be great if you could make the left over items from the sale available to order on line for those of us that love your work and your paint but just live to far to stop by!

    40. MaryLisa Noyes

You hit it big! love the baker’s rack and the sofa is so cool. I always make things work when I love it….I need to book reservations for the next Luckett’s!

    41. Amanda

Both of these are serious steals!!

    42. Nicole

Hi Marian, Just love reading your blog, so inspirational! I live in the area and am curious if you sold the green desk/vanity with gorgeous legs? Thanks!!

    43. Susan

Sofa Is AWESOME!!! So is the baker’s rack but free RULES!!! I vote for velvet, I think…. When will the ironstone be posted? There are a couple of pieces I am particularly interested in!!

      Thanks!

      SM

    44. Linda Jackson

I would do the linen if it were to be my sofa. It’s so big, the velvet might be a bit much. But, that’s me and if I saw it in blue velvet I would probably love it! I think the wood color is perfect for the linen but it needs some TLC to make it come back to life. You do such great work — whatever you choose will turn out beautifully!

    45. Sue Pagels

The baker’s rack is to die for! No way I could of/would of turned that down at that price!

      • Terry Jett

All weekend long, I was asking $250 for it, which I thought was an amazing deal. The last day I knocked $100 off to move it, but no one picked it up! It’s really heavy with a steel body and iron wheels and aluminum shelves.

    46. Melissa #DoItHerselfDiva

I can’t express how jealous I am on that rack!! Not that I would have the room for it,But WOW!! I was a Customer Service Rep for Frito Lay,Which also included deliveries..Large Grocery Chains still keep a newer, modern version of that exact rack in the backroom of Their stores & bread companies keep their overflow stock on it for the store to restock throughout the week before The Rep can return to that store..But a vintage one? NO WAY would I be drying paint samples on it though!! NO WAY!! It deserves to be filled with sheets, linens & upholstery supplies..It truly was a phenominal score!!

    47. Sharon Bates

I would love to come to your studio snd browse the left-overs…then I could bring you a few things that I know you liked from my collection!

    48. Terry Jett

Glad you liked the bakery rack! I loved it as well, but needed the space, and it really was a beast!

I hope it works for your studio!

I’m also friends with Eddie and Cassie, small world we all work in. Stop by and visit me @ Chartreuse when you can!

      Terry
