Houston Trip | Part One

I just got back today from my weekend trip to Houston, Texas with my mom.  Whew, these trips are so fun, but so tiring.  I’ll give a full account later this week, but I wanted to share something tonight.

First off, the hospitality was amazing…

…the people were gracious and inspiring…

…we had a fun time playing with paint…

…and other products…

…I saw Milk Paint do things I didn’t know it could do (like cover rusted metal beautifully)…

…and saw first time painters discover hidden talents…

…and I even got to see a belt buckle.

I was in Texas, after all.

More to come…

  2. Marian,

I am so excited to have met you! I am really into decorating and love old furniture, just never have I ever painted before! As soon as I got home, I started my kitchen island and it looks amazing!!!!! When I get the antique wax in, I’ll finish and send pictures. I can’t wait to post it to my blog!!! Yay!!! So inspired!

  3. Hi Marian,

Have you seen anyone try milk paint on laminate furniture? I am going to try to do a vanity for our school fundraiser and it is made of the white laminate over particle board. The vanity was free, so I figure it is worth trying. Any suggestions you may have are readily welcomed! In your picture from Texas, is the painted metal thing painted with Luckett’s Green? It turned out great!

  4. did you use white on top of lucketts green on the lyre stool (above the buckle)? what layers went into this technique. i have watched your tutorials, so understand the process you use. love this look! many thanks, karen

  5. Marian … bet you had fun visiting Texas. Love the way the pieces of furniture turned out. Love that green. Looks like you may be in San Antonio in April … just maybe I can arrange to go to that Workshop. So happy for you.
    Blessings,

  6. Well now, that rusted metal piece opens up a whole new area for me to think about ;0) and I’m also curious whether the bonding agent was needed for that…

Looks like everyone had a nice time but I bet you’re glad to be home again! Enjoying your blog so much. Thanks,

  7. That was the most fun I have had in a long time. My Luckett’s green table looks great in my home office. I can’t wait to try some of the other colors on more items around the house. Thank you again for coming to Houston. We love you here.

  8. It would be nice to see you come to Utah since it looks like you had such an amazing in Texas. I know you would have a wonderful time here.

  9. Marian, It was such an inspiration to meet you and have you in TEXAS!! Come Back!! My yellow tray did make it in the background of the awesome metal chimney! 🙂 I am still working on it and will send you a picture, soon! Love from Texas!

    1. I am reading Inspired You and I love it!!! Can’t wait to order some paint. I have a kitchen island with a butcher block top, a sewing cabinet and who knows what else!
Terrific book. I just found your blog and I am in heaven. I restored a house built in 1865, a tall Italianate. There were 77 spindles in the stairway and after I had them all finished, they became my daughters punishment. I made them use paste wax and polish each one. They are in their 40’s and still hated that punishment!!!! Great read!!!

  10. Stumbled across your blog and love your style! The last image of the green distressed table is lovely and will have to try your paints in not to distant future. Thanks for sharing

  11. wow, I have been wanting to try that green, and I think you just convinced me!!! I think I chirped when I saw your scarf! I have been wanting that one for so long!! 😉 so cute!!

    Looks like a fun trip.

  12. We just got back from San Antonio and yes, the hospitality was amazing. So was the food – love Tex-Mex!

  13. Hi Marian,

It was a pleasure and privilege to be able to spend time with you and your mom last Saturday. It was inspiring, informative, and just plain fun! Mandie and her crew were great and it was so nice to meet all of the other talented class participants. I felt like I had not only left with information, paint, and my special tee shirt, but lots of new friends as well.

I’ll be mailing a package soon…but now I think that I’ll have to paint something else…It’s not quite perfect!

    Big Texas Hugs,

    PetriA

  14. I see the green/mint colored iron furnace… which is sweet looking! So, please tell me.. did you prep this piece before milk painting it, or did you just paint over the rust, if it truly was rusty. Will rust come through eventually, with time? Thank you in advance for your response. fg

  15. Its like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something.
I think that you could do with some pics to drive the
message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is magnificent blog.
An excellent read. I will certainly be back.

  16. My relatives every time say that I am killing my time here at web,
however I know I am getting experience everyday by reading thes good articles or reviews.
