Guestroom Updates

First of all, today I have the priveledge of being a guest on Chic Modern Vintage, so make sure you visit!
I sold enough things out of my guestroom that it was really time to give it some attention.  I sold almost everything on the walls and the chair in the corner.  It was looking sad and bare.  I was playing with it yesterday and this is what I came up with.
The picture above is how it looks now.  I sold the chalkboard and the “Gasthaus” sign and replaced them with an antique equestrian print and some framed vintage lacework.  The candle sconces didn’t work with the prints, so I replaced those with my $.10 (yes, a dime each) ironstone plates.
I sold the chair in the corner…
…and replaced it with my new yard sale French chair.  The upholstery doesn’t look half bad in this room, but I’m still going to paint the frame and reupholster it, so it’s more “me.”  The letter press drawer with the dress hanging on it and other candle sconce were replaced with the twins to the equestrian print and ironstone platter.
And I hung my new starburst mirror on the wall where the antique crib rail and dresses were.  I love the statement it makes and the antique baby dresses felt a little “sweet” (to me) for the men staying in my guest room.
I am going to make a second mirror to sell, but I already have a buyer.  A tutorial is in the works, so you’ll be able to make your own!

  1. Great additions! I'm really, really sad with all the talk of reupholstering that chair, too!! I love it!! I think once you have a fresh coat of creamy white on the wood, the upholstery will look so fantastic. Save the upholstery!! 🙂

  2. It's so beautiful! I think guest bedrooms often get the hand-me-down furniture, which is sad! This looks amazing!

  3. Oh my, your guestroom looks lovely! It is fun to change things out occasionally, isn't it. I wish I could sell a few things, that would sure work for me.
    Hugs, cindy

  4. I agree with the above, I love the chair as is! But I understand if its not 'you'. The room looks wonderful now, as it did then. You have so much talent & such a good eye. Looking forward to the tutorial on the mirror!

  6. I love the new look! The prints remind me of the fall and winter season moving into our part of the world and the red curtains bring out those colors in the prints! The star burst mirror is gorgeous!

  7. My sister once asked me, "Can't you leave anything alone?" So I can understand the need to paint and reupholster your chair…but actually I really like it as it is. At least you don't have to be in a hurry to re-do it!
    Beautiful room! Before and After!

  8. I love that chair so much the way it is, I wish I could come take it off your hands. It's just gorgeous. I love both versions of the room as well, you definitely have a wonderful gift.

  9. I agree with the others about the chair! It's so lovely as-is!!
I have been coveting (I know, don't judge me!!) one of those starburst mirrors for a few years, but it never occurred to me to make one. Now I'm on the lookout for items that will translate as well as your sewing spindles.

  10. I have to be honest, I really like the new look much better. It has a cozier bedroom feel to it. The first was good, but the second is better. :o) And I'm so envious of the Frenchy garage sale chair!!!

  11. You have such impeccable taste. The way it was before was great, and the way it is now is fantastic!

Can't wait to see what you come up with for the chair!

  12. Well, the Guest House sign is truly missed! I adore the new chair and would suggest it NOT be recovered…that's just me. 🙂

Congrats on doing so well with all your sales and the new space you're opening.

  13. Ummmmm, I'm sort a little a LOTTA bit in LOVE with that room. Just ADORE the red pillows and accents.

And personally, I would leave that awesome chair exactly how it is…it looks fabulous! But hey, what do I know.

    Really, LOVE!!
