Well, the day finally came! Last week, it was finally time to crack open the Ilve range that’s been sitting in my garage since last October. I felt tempted to open it many times, but it was crated, boxed, and cushioned, so the complications of opening it deterred me enough from taking a peek. I carefully read the labels and confirmed it was what I ordered but left it unopened. So, when our contractor, Nathan, said it was time to take a look and double-check measurements before setting the cabinets, I delayed running an errand, ensuring I was there for the unboxing.

I don’t normally put videos directly in blog posts, but I wanted to share the video of when I saw the range. I ordered it, so I knew what it looked like, but seeing it in person, in my garage, ready to be installed in my kitchen, was exciting. I asked Nathan if I could film the unboxing and he was a good sport about it.

I know, the squealing. I just couldn’t help it. The excitement in me bubbled out in the form of a squeal.
(Let me insert here that the range is part of a partnership with Ilve and Forté. In this post, I am sharing about the new range as a part of the kitchen renovation and it is not officially a sponsored post. I will disclose any content that is an official part of that partnership at the beginning of the post.)
Moving it into the kitchen was a bit of a process, but we were able to get it safely in on a couple of furniture dollies. Just seeing it in the kitchen made my heart happy. It was perfect with the cabinets and floor. It added just the right about of shine.

So, if you have eyeballs, I’m pretty sure you’ll agree that the range is gorgeous. It really is my dream range. I have been looking at Ilve ranges for a couple of years, researching them, and then budgeted for one for this kitchen renovation long before I knew I would be able to collaborate with them on this project. I have to admit that it was the looks that captured my attention, but as someone who likes to cook, I was also excited about having two ovens, more burners, and even a griddle. This range has a lot of power, and a lot of options, and is definitely the star of this kitchen. In fact, I picked the range first and everything else was designed around that.
Here was the rough sketch I made even before we officially bought the house…

And here is how it looks in its new home…

To me, the range is the hearth of the modern-day home and this one fills that role beautifully.
The range I picked out is the .

I wasn’t sure what my other appliances or cabinets would look like at the time I started dreaming about this range, so I selected stainless steel with brass fittings. It would be neutral enough to go with anything and I like how it will tie together other brass and stainless steel elements used in the kitchen.

The propane tank was installed and the range was converted from natural gas and hooked up yesterday and the wiring was completed as well. I was able to scramble some eggs on the stovetop this morning! It’s funny that the first thing I made on such a beefy range is scrambled eggs.
There is a lot I need to learn to make full use of all of the functions available on this range, but I will definitely share a full in-depth review once I’ve had the chance to use the range for a while. I did order a couple of oven thermometers so I knew if this oven ran hotter, cooler, or right on the nose. That will definitely help with the learning curve!

The counters are being installed today, so we are inching toward the finish line…

She’s a beauty! Congratulations and I’m looking forward to hearing more about how she works. And I don’t blame you for squealing!
that range is beautiful!!
Curious as to why you converted from natural gas to propane. Is it a plumbing issue or a cooking preference? Your kitchen is shaping up to be beautiful.
The range itself is made for natural gas but it comes with a conversion kit for propane installation. We do not have natural gas run to our house and, after some research, running a line would be cost-prohibitive, so we went with propane. When I did research on cooking with propane, it is actually thought of to be a superior cooking fuel over natural gas.
Your range is beautiful! When you say it runs on propane does that mean you had to install a propane tank in your yard and then hooked it up to that. Can you show a picture of that? Thanks!
Yes, we had a propane tank installed by the house and i will share a picture of it. We will pay a monthly fee to a propane company to top it off, so we don’t have to worry about it running out.
That range is like a beautiful Italian sports car – you can see that their artistry even shows in the appliances they do! I have a question – I saw the link to the product page and it says it has a backguard, does it lift or raise up a stainless steel wall to protect the backsplash from spatters? It did not have a picture of it lifted so I couldn’t tell, I’m just curious. Also, what is the bar that spans across the top for? Not the ones that open the ovens, but the long one on top. I know you’ll probably go into details later, but I’m just being impatiently curious!!

You can see the back piece on my range in the very last photo. It’s just a small piece and it doesn’t raise and lower.
As far as the bar, the top one is just a rail that can be used for hanging a towel, potholder, etc.
Looking good! I think I would be baking some chocolate chip cookies as my first thing!
We sold our house in Northern Virginia 2 years ago where I’d had a Wolf 48” gas range with 4 burners a griddle and a grill. I miss it so. I’m very envious of your new range and the ability to cook with gas/propane. Where we live in Florida now, there are no gas lines nearby and no chance of them coming…ever. We have discussed getting an outside range that could run on propane. But it would have to be run on the jugs that you get for a gas grill because we aren’t allowed to get a propane tank in our neighborhood. I do love the configuration of your stovetop. I used that griddle 5 times a week at least. Since the indoor grill was not easy to cook on, I would’ve preferred the 6 burners. Congrats! It’s gorgeous!
Marian, you aren’t the only one squealing about that unboxing! WIOWZA!!!
That range is of which kitchen dreams are made. ♥
I am so happily jealous – you have no idea. Love love love it. Your contractor is a sweetheart. Hope you bake something nice for him when these projects are complete.
That is one beautiful work of art! Thanks for sharing and happy cooking!
I swooned right along with your squeals. How exciting to have the kitchen of your dreams. Bravo!! Chef!!
Fabulous! Looks like perfection to me!
Your range is beautiful, and will prove to be a trusted workhorse in your kitchen. We put one in my mother’s kitchen and she loves it! Italian design is fabulous, but we were initially concerned regarding how dependable it would be (i.e. like the gorgeous Ferrari that is in the shop more than the driveway). Nothing to worry about! Mom loves it and it is built Iike a tank. Congratulations and have fun with it for years to come!
Oh, I am so glad to hear that!
Just fabulous. 😍
This is a beautiful appliance and has such presence! Your kitchen is going to be magazine worthy!
I’m so happy for you…your dream kitchen is becoming a reality.
How will you keep the kitties from getting under the range? How will you keep it clean under there?
There is a toe kick piece we can add, but I think we’re just going to leave it open. They have explored under there, but I’m not too worried about it being an issue. There isn’t anywhere they can get stuck or get into anything.
Absolutely stunning! Did you have a 4 prong outlet installed? Any issues or other special things to know about? My electricians are working on our house soon and I want to make sure they put everything in place when the time comes to install our ILVE. Enjoy every cooking/bake time! Thank you! Also, I’ve read that they specifically make self cleaning wall liners that are a must since they aren’t self cleaning ovens (at least the 36″ I am getting). Also, I hear the simmer plate works well too for long simmers. I bet your eggs tasted extra delicious! PS: Could you kindly tell me the paint you used for the kitchen? Sorry, I may have missed that somewhere.
I will definitely learn more about all of the ins and outs as I use it more and will share a post on what I learn. I didn’t care about not having a self-cleaning oven setting because I used it once years ago and it was so fumey that I couldn’t take it. From then on, I would just put cookie sheets under things that might overflow and I would scrape off any build-up if something did spill. For this oven, I ordered a copper oven mat.
As far as the electrical, I would print up the specs and installation instructions for your specific range for your builder. My range ended up needing to be hardwired into a box (it doesn’t have a plug.)
She’s stunning!!
Squeal 😆
Please oh please invest in the toe kick piece saves on running a mob under there makes it so much easier to keep clean. And please don’t cheapen that !beautiful piece of equipment by hanging a towel on that handle. I do not like that.look at all. It is very impressive and wish you much luck using it. Are the doors hard to open ?
I personally think the open space under this range is one of the best features of it. That makes it look like a classy piece of furniture!
Once again, Irene Kelly, incredibly rude. If you don’t like a particular look, don’t use it. Other people have the right to do what they like in their homes without unkind comments.
Your range is gorgeous, I’ll will be checking out Forte appliances.
Beautiful stove. I can see why you squealed. I am sure it will make many tasty meals and treats as the heart of your kitchen. It is joyous to have dreams come to life. Enjoy!
OH … WOW!! WOW!! WOW!!
I wouldn’t want to cook on it and get it dirty!
Truly Amazing.
She is gorgeous!!!! It is so fun to watch your kitchen come together. We are planning a remodel and with all the choices out there, it is so overwhelming….your choices have all been spot on, so pretty, can’t wait to see the finish line, especially after all your special touches are in place.
Marian, your range is so beautiful! It will be fun learning about all the special features it has. You will just love your range. So happy for you that all your dreams are being fulfilled! Your kitchen is absolutely a dream — your dream come true! Enjoy!
GORGEOUS…simply GORGEOUS!!!! I am glad to hear you like to cook. So many get fabulous stoves and never cook!!!??? Now to top it off ….you are going to have to get a Newly and Bloomer Simplex tea kettle. They ARE the best. Water boils so very fast!!!! I love mine!!! People say they hand them down in families! Get at William Sonoma…quality throughout ….worth every penny.
Lovely range. I have used Propane for 33 years and it is wonderful. Some advice on Propane you can purchase your tank and if you own your tank the price of the propane will drop. I have researched propane prices every year and the prices are all over the place. If you own your tank you can save up to a dollar per gallon. There is a wonderful company out of PA that we have been using and their prices are the lowest. It does pay to shop around.
Enjoy every minute on that beautiful range. Now get cooking!
It is stunning. But how does it exhaust to the outdoors? I didn’t see any opening in the ceiling or rear wall to accommodate the exhaust…
The range hood vents to the ceiling and through the attic to a vent that is outside above our living room. The duct going into the ceiling is what attaches to the rest of the duct work in the attic.
I have the same range! Shiny black with gold, though.
I have really enjoyed the pizza setting on the oven. I make pizza that rivals our any nearby restaurant for a fraction of the cost. I think the burners run hot like a professional stovetop. The stove and oven both work very well.
There is definitely a learning curve. And the symbols make it difficult for company to use it. The thermo coupler makes it difficult for those who aren’t used to it to light it. Even my husband struggles to light it. And the gas top is so much more difficult to clean than my last gas stove. So many more pieces! The small oven doesn’t seem to work well for me either! I wish it fit my quarter sheet pan or my 8×8 casserole dish. It only fits a loaf pan and doesn’t seem to bake well. It’s definitely beautiful and the showpiece of my kitchen! But it does have its many drawbacks. I just wanted to list them here for others to read since I know this is a sponsored post.
That is great information, thank you! And, just to be clear, Ilve did not have any strings attached to collaborating with them. I can write an honest review about the product and I certainly will! Also, I will often circle back to sponsored products (like our Sleep Number bed) a year or more after the initial post so I can share how I like the product/service after more use.
Anyway, I really appreciate your review! It’s nice to have feedback from a variety of people who have used the range.
So I noticed that your stove sits behind your cabinets. We solved this by building a little spice rack behind ours : I have a photo if your interested-not sure how to share it
Yes, I was thinking about that! It looks to me like it should sit forward a bit more, but then there would be about a 2″ gap behind the range. I was thinking that a little shelf might be the answer. You can e-mail your picture to marian@missmustardseed.com. Did you just build it out of wood?
