I set up a Christmas tree in early October to photograph my “line.” As I decorated the tree, my almost four year old crept around the corner and his eyes widened. He gasped and exclaimed with glee, “It’s Christmas!” “Oh, buddy, it’s not Christmas. Mommy’s just taking pictures.” “Oh, okay.” and he shuffled off, head hanging. Poor little guy.
Now, the tree is at Chartreuse for the barn sale and I am setting up pumpkin topiaries and other fall and Halloween decor to take pictures for HGTV.com tutorials for next year. It actually works out well. I was able to buy bargain pumpkins ($10 for a wagon full, the day before the great pumpkin smashing party) and clearance Halloween and fall decor. My neighbors must scratch their heads at me. There were tree lights in the window in October and now Halloween decor on my porch in November!
I must admit that the seasons are feeling a little muddled for me as well. I spent the day working on sheet music wreaths, then carving and painting foam tombstones, and back to glittering snowflakes and painting a Christmas banner.
I think I’ll have my act together a little bit more next year.
I hope.

PS – You girls rock! Your feedback on my post about the PB sheet music and glitter line was so uplifting. Thanks a bunch.

Imagine working retail….where Christmas starts in October in some places!
Carving tombstones? Do tell…
If a mess up of seasons is the reason for your current success, I hope you ARE messed up for many years to come, girl! 🙂

This is so true. I did a recent post to my blog I titled "Christmas Before Halloween?". I went shopping a couple of weeks ago for some new Fall decor, only to find Fall already on clearance, one aisle lined with Halloween costumes and trick or treat candy, and the next aisle over decorated in a Winter Wonderland for Christmas! Seasonal confusion indeed. 🙂
Hang in there. You have done an amazing job with everything. You are such an inspiration to all of us out here in blogland. You always have some of the greatest ideas! Love & blessings from NC!
I feel that same way sometimes. I keep my family guessing and my neighbors….they just quit asking…hehe. Hang in there! Susie~
Heck, it's still 4th of July inside my head. 😉
I think you have your act together very well this year. You changed shops, added another shop or show, started your HGTV work, decorated your entire house at least two times, invented things, hunted for things, and more. Well done. Your kids are too little to know what holiday comes first, and if they do, you are showing them the power of prior planning. Ann
Please go to the Fiskars site and make those cute Thanksgiving things for your kids. Then show them to us. Thanks
That would have me in a muddle as well. Ha!! But this is all for a good cause…sales!!! Woot!!

Awww…poor little guy! The holiday seasons seem to run together these days. The Christmas decor here hit some stores the beginning of October…it was still 80 degrees back then!
Happy New Year! Is it too early?
(he he)
Enjoy your success! You desearve it.
You do all these things and have a four year old? Wow! What do I do with my time?
You're doing an amazing job with everything. I said "awwwww" when I read about your son. I can see my kids doing the same thing.
That sheet music wreath is such a great idea – it would look great in a library or study… so posh 😉
Thanks for sharing the little story about your son – teasing a kid about Christmas is pretty rough! LOL

Aw, poor little guy! 🙂 What a sweetie. Have you ever read Martha Stewart about how they do their photographing? They photograph Christmas stuff long before Christmas season. So I'm not sure that we don't just have to go with the flow when it comes to timing. Such is the life of someone who writes for print (blog or magazine) I'd imagine.
Marian,
I don't know how much more you could "get your act together" since I marvel at how organized and productive you already are! Great job on all seasons, it's why I visit, I know I'll be inspired and amazed.

Poor little feller!! So sweet!!
By the way- I think you probably have got your "act together" way much more than any of us, you are just amazing, with the amount you do and then looking after your kids and running your business and being creative and also supportive to your fellow bloggers- I mean STOP Stop stop with the putting yourself down!! ;-).
I read through some of the commments on your last post, and it is really heart-warming – but there you are – you reap what you sow- you are the best.
How funny- I'd love to be one of your neighbors! If they only knew the thousands of people you inspire…
LOL! You poor girl, you!

I love hearing that someone else is working on as many different things as I am! Today: bleaching bottle brush trees, making jewelry, Christmas ornaments, decoupaged candles, and cooking and cleaning all at the same time. When I told a lady at school about everything I am doing, she said I need to go on Adderol!! I must admit I really love the creative frenzy, don't you?
Cheers, Andrea
It's hard to keep it all straight, isn't it 🙂
My almost 4 year old was so ready for Halloween when we got the decorations out in September! Every day he asked "is it Halloween?". He's really going to have a hard time when we put the tree up next week 🙂
I was told about your site yesterday, and spent much of evening reading your ideas. You have inspired me to organize a junque swap with my friends. It looks like great fun!
