"playing" & glass glitter beauty shots

This morning, I woke up with an intense desire to decorate.  I feel like I can’t touch anything, since our house is on the market, and it’s driving me a little nuts.  I really thrive on scooting around furniture and trying out new things in my home and I’ve been feeling very inspired lately.  I’ve also been feeling like the finishing touches in some of my rooms have been lacking.  I get enough done for the pictures and then I get busy with something else and don’t revisit the room later.  I’ve also come to notice that I buy very few things specifically for my house.  I usually end up claiming something from my furniture stash or keeping something that doesn’t sell. The things I have bought specifically for me are the ones I love the most, so I need to be much more intentional about what I sell and what I keep.  Truth be told, it would probably be a good thing if my house wasn’t such a parade of furniture.

Anyway, I really wanted to move some things around today, mainly to get the creative juices flowing and to take some time away from my computer screen.  I focused on accessories…just freshening them up.

I removed the fake Ikea plants that flank the daybed in the family room from their plastic pots, so they would fit in ironstone sugar jars.  I then layered each of them on an antique blue & white plate…

And I changed out the sofa side table accessories.  I’ve been using a wooden tool tote for our remotes for years.  I noticed, though, that we only had three remotes in a huge tote and the rest was empty.  I also realized we don’t have toddlers anymore, so I can actually have pretty things on side tables.  I put the remotes in an ironstone tureen and added a footed bowl with a boxwood topiary.  I rounded out the table with some books and a runner as well.

Jeff is a little skeptical about housing the remotes in an ironstone tureen, but he’s willing to try it out for a few days.

I added a grain sack “runner” and dough bowl filled with moss on the side table.

I then moved into the kitchen and cleared out the “nook” above the “baking center.”

It used to be a wine rack, but I ripped out the cross pieces and have used it to store cook books for years.  I recently decided I didn’t need to have all of my cook books out, especially since ironstone is prettier!  And, I get most of my recipes online these days.  I kept my favorite cook books, but put them in a cabinet.  Here’s how it looks now…

I didn’t have time to do more than that, but I did quickly add a runner to the dining room table…

I started with this picture, but realized it showed my “conveying light fixture”, so I took the picture from another angle.  I miss my antique chandeliers!

I have found that every once in a while I just need to “play.”  It’s a creative outlet and reminds me how much I love decorating.

I also spent some time today taking “beauty shots” of my line of glass glitter.  I received the jars with the for-real labels on them and was excited to stage them for some pictures.  I’m really happy with the labeling and packaging.

I took all of these shots with my 60mm macro lens, so I could get really close and capture the details of the glitter.

(And the glitter bokeh is beautiful.)

The white, Fallen Snow, was the hardest to photograph.  I had quite a time capturing the detail of the glitter.  I styled it with pinecones and evergreens to show how snow-like it looks.  It really is beautiful when it catches the light.

Reni, of Bliss & Tell Branding Company, designed the labels for me and they look amazing.

I have one more color left to photograph, Flapper (black), and I’ll hopefully get to that tomorrow.  I think it’s going to be a tough one, too.

You can purchase all five colors of the Miss Mustard Seed’s Glass Glitter from Meyer Imports HERE.  If you have a shop and would like to carry it, you can open an wholesale account for wholesale rates.  Let me know if you’re selling it and I’ll give you a shout out!

Marian! Your home is so lovely. I love what you have done today. I need to take some time to decorate too. You have inspired me!! Continuing to pray for buyers for your gorgeous home!!

I love, love love what you did with the removing the wine rack! I have a wet bar with a huge wine rack that I’ve been wanting to convert into a plate rack for years, but with a Mr. that’s neither a wine drinker or a man inclined to change existing decor. Wah wah wah. I could get at least 2 good shelves of BIG racks instead of the one unused wine rack…..
Can’t wait to see Flapper. I’m a Flapper girl at heart, and you had me at just the name. Love the photos of the tiara and carnival – so beautiful!

Like you, I have a “need” to move things around and create little new looks from time to time. I LOVED going through your photos, so much that I went back through them over and over a few times! Also, like you, I’ve been thinking about purging my cookbook collection, and only keeping the ones that I use a lot or that were special gifts. The cookbook space could be used in a much better way, now that we have internet recipes at our fingertips.
      Watching for the next post…

I love your dinning table….it looks like reclaimed wood. Is it an old one? It looks like the one I love at restoration hardware.

It’s actually an old barn door we cut to size and finished. It was paired with the base to a potting bench.

        • Charry

Do you know of anyplace that sells barn doors that I could have shipped to California?
I am trying to make a dinning table top but nor having much luck.
My house is also on the market and I feel like i can’t touch anything. Hope you are having better luck with that. Market is slow in California.
          Thanks

I love the remotes in the white ironstone dish. Hope Jeff likes it!!! Great idea.

After looking at all that beautiful glitter, now I want to play! It all looks so magical–like it’s straight off the set of FROZEN! 🙂

I have been feeling the same way! I sell things I love, I help everyone else decorate their homes, and my house gets leftovers of me and my stuff that doesn’t sell! An item I love did not sell this last weekend (because I purposely marked it too high) and it has made me take a look around and want to bring more of me to my house I’ve lived in for 3 years. When we first moved I filled walls and rooms with some items, not bad ones but not all of them spoke to me like I know they should. What also inspired me to get going was you, the other day you posted about magnolia homes and that lovely photo of their entry with a sign with one of the best verses from Joshua. That sign was so perfect for me and my house, it spoke to me and I ordered it, and just like that I’m on my way to taking care of business in my home, because that’s important too!

Oh, I so wish I had someone to help me with my home. I have different pieces but they somehow never seem to look quite right where I put them. Thank goodness for this site. It gives me a lot of inspiration and ideas. Thanks everyone!

Your house get gorgeouser and gorgeoser by the minute!! I know it’s more gorgeous but I just had to say it that way! I get so excited when I see your email in my mailbox!! I just love the peaceful, calm and yet beautiful way you decorate. You are such an inspiration to me! Thank you!

I have an old stone farm house. When we need old supplies we turn to Carlson’s Barnwwood Company , Cambridge, Il 309-522-5550. They have great wood flooring made from old wood. I would bet they could help you find an old door .

    13. Lillace Christianson

Marian, those little jars are just as pretty as the glitter!

    14. patricia

I ‘m thinking the top of your ironstone is going to end up chipped- or worse. But it does look nice.
Marian, would you say the glitter is for adults only? Will it stick well enough to put it in a child’s room? It’s so pretty that I’m thinking of possible projects!

    15. Sally

Beautiful photos! That peachy coral pillow on your daybed is so sweet, love everything! Your home is so gorgeous I’m sure it will get snatched up quick.
P.S. I’m totally diggin’ your new Milk Paint color Apron Strings.

What are some things one could do with glitter glass? Is it regular glitter or a new “take” on a old product. Sometimes I use a little glitter to enhance a card or whatever…is this real glass…is it coarse or fine texture or combination…
If you have answered this type of ? before….forgive.

    17. Teresa

Everything looks gorgeous Marian! I too thrive on changing things around and swapping out décor on a frequent basis. Sometimes it can drive my husband nuts but it keeps things fresh. I know how frustrating it must be to have your hands tied to a certain degree while your house is on the market.

I am sure you have been getting some good feedback from your realtor because your house shows beautiful. Once summer is in full swing, sometimes the market can cool down with families going on vacation and traveling with the kids who are out of school. Keeping my fingers crossed for you guys that you will have it sold soon!

the hemp oil I ordered did a great job on my front door.
the ironstone bowl is already cracked severly, so a couple of remotes won’t lessen the resale value of it at all..

    19. Lee

Fantastic photos, I have been pinning away like crazy. I do love the silver glass glitter and the way you cleverly styled it. Your a real pro now, no need for anyone else to do your styling.

      Lee 🙂

I love the step ladder table. Can you tell me more about it. Is it a step ladder with a table added ?

    21. Nancy

What beautiful inspiring pictures as always!!

    22. Cindy

Oh gosh the photos of your glitter are just delicious…
Isn’t it funny how that decorating feeling can just come over you and how totally fun it is to move things around and play like that. It’s definitely a high… when i used to get PMS i was notorious for moving furniture around. I miss my PMS!

And it will that only people whoo are skilled in its market and its employees orr
members. Although it remains bailey jay blog a mystery
as tto whether they like her or don’t like her oor don’t like her,

Love how you hit it out of the park even when you are just playing! Will miss you at Haven this year! But I am keeping The Chapel Market weekend open in case you and Jeff need help again! I had a blast…have a great summer!

    25. Anita
