Glittered Letter Tutorial (Finally!)

Well, I finally got around to making a glittered letter video tutorial.  I hope this will be helpful and inspirational for you as your getting ready for the holidays.
The music used at the end of the video is “Dawn” from The Pride and Prejudice Soundtrack.

Music by Dario Marianelli, performed by Jean-Yves Thibeaudet.

Enjoy!

    Thank you so much!
    Lovely greetings…

  5. the tutorial was great! thanks. you have a way of making it look so easy. 😉

and i agree with you 100% on the german glass glitter. the differnece is unreal. i have some items in my gift shoppe and they way they sparkle is unlike anything!

  6. Thank you so much for taking the time to show us how to make these beauties! And you're right about the banshees….I think it's encoded in the human genome to get loud when your parents are on the phone or doing something important =) My fooligans wouldn't have stayed quiet for so long.

  7. Dear Miss Mustard Seed,
Thank you for the great how-to video! Also love the music at the end! I'm guessing you are a P&P; fan too!

Anyway… I actually do have a request..Your painted letter banners. Your font is SO beautiful! Would you share your source? If you'd rather not it's ok.

    Thanks again for everything!

  8. THANK U THANK U THANK U THANK U! I adore this project! I have been looking for something special to mail to my close friends and family who are out of town this year and I originally was going for frosted ornaments but I love this idea even better! Urs are gorgeous! And I totally get the little voices! Gotta love those kids 🙂 Mine do the same thing! PERFECTION

  9. Good job on the tutorial. The music at the end startled me because before sitting down to read some blogs I had literally just been playing "Dawn" on the piano!

  10. your tutorial was pefect, with all the informations we were looking for! Thank you also for taking the time to answer my question via email. I am so ready to make my own, and hopefully they will turn out as beautiful as yours.

  11. thank you so much for this tutorial! I had actually picked up some wood cutouts snowflakes to glitter for my tree and was using the martha stewart glitter but I may have to spring for your fancy German glass glitter because even on camera it sparkles so much! Love the banner idea too, I want to try this as well:)

  12. You are adorable and thank you so much for the tutorial. I've been thinking about how to mount the letters for a long time without punching holes!

  13. My hubby and I had our weekly date night last night. We had a few minutes before we were to meet up with our friends and he asked if I wanted to duck into a nearby Pottery Barn. I whole heartedly agreed and felt like I had walked into your shop! The trees were covered in sheet music ornaments and glittering items, bird cages and ceramic birds. I couldn't believe it! The pillows were burlap and full of texture. I looked at my husband and said, "I follow this blog…."

I guess I was just floored by how beautiful the things you craft really are. Pottery Barn is one thing, but items handmade from one busy working mom to another – totally different.

Best wishes to you this holiday season!

  14. Thanks for the tutorial…you are so generous! I know you are crazy busy and to take the time out to show us how to do this is sooo sweet! I actually glittered some letters and had been hemming and hawing about what to do with them and now I know:)

  15. Very sweet, Marian! I bought an entire box of scrapbooking supplies at a church rummage sale over the summer. I'm wondering if some sheets of letters included in the batch are what you referred to as, "Grunge Board." Hmmm…but they aren't stinky…so maybe not!

    Happy Christmas Crafting!

  16. Thanks so much for the tutorial! I'm going to use this idea for my mother/daughter holiday crafting party this year. Heck, I could probably make all my projects from your great ideas!

  17. As always, beautifully done and so generous of spirit to share such information. Good luck in getting banners ready for your own tree!

    Thanks,
    Laura

  18. Thank you thank you for the tutorial! I ordered my german glass glitter right after watching it. Now I've got to grab some chipboard letters and I'll be all set! Its so exciting to have a new project. (that doesn't involve a testy paint sprayer, that still isn't working… THIS week.. I will master that thing THIS week)

  19. Thank you, Marian! I am so excited about this tutorial and I can't wait to try it. It was extremely generous for you to share and I really appreciate it.

    -Stacy

ps…I finally hung my sheet music wreath that I purchased from you on top of a mirrow above my bed and it looks so gorgeous! Love it!

  20. Thank you soooo much for the great tutorial. I so appreciated having the sources as well. Dang…someday we'll get a Hobby Lobby here in the Pacific Northwest. 🙂

    Warm blessings,
    Spencer

  21. Thanks for the video tutorial! I had some glass glitter here (from Stampin' Up!) and tried it with some chipboard letters… gorgeous! I'm not sure how different it is from the German glass glitter, so I think I'll order a small bit of that and try it out. 🙂

  22. Very well done, Marian! You have a natural flair for the camera.

I do have a question- I would like to make the letters to form a word like someone's name but don't want it to hang like a banner- is there a way to make it stiff with the letters strung together?

Thanks so much for sharing your ideas.

  23. Great video, Marian! You do such an excellent job of explaining "how-to's". Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us!

  24. Thanks for sharing Marian. I saw all those letters while shopping but wanted to wait till you posted to make sure I didn't buy the wrong thing. A special thanks for glitter hook up.

  25. Thank you so much. I didn't know it would be so easy. I guess I thought you would need special glue and other stuff. Also thanks for including the grit sizes.

  26. Thank you very much for the tutorial. It was informative and very clear. I`m waiting for the music sheet tutorial…when is coming? Thanks again.

  27. Loved watching, German glass glitter is one of my faves! I have a couple tips:

    1) Mixing of two grits helps fill in, but another trick is to paint the project with silver first. I spray painted with silver, then covered and it was great!

    2) I'll often push the item into the glitter so that it'll really stick. Make a bed of the glitter, go face down and push.

    3) Be careful when you push down, like with magnets, that you have something to protect your surface. I found out the hard way that the glass will pit your surface if you don't! 🙂

  28. I thought your tutorial was great, very informative. I know you were sorry you couldn't zoom in on yourself while crafting and teaching…but I used the control button and scrolled until you were big enough to see and I could see the packaging details pretty well too.
    Just FYI…

I love this glitter it looks great. I saw that you had some really "early model" Home Interiors Butterflies… I think they turned out great.
I have some 'early model' H.I. Ivy. I think would be great in this medium. But I won't pay the price for the glitter.
Email… I can mail them too you.

  29. Just found your blog and love it. Your tutorial was fabulous with the German Glass Gitter, but I am afraid it is way to expensive for me… I love the little squeals in the background… They are really precious. Can you tell I'm a grandma? LOL

  30. My glass glitter arrived in the mail today and I am SO EXCITED! thanks not only for providing instructions but also for providing such great detail on the items you used and where to find them. 🙂
