Those who have read my blog for a while know what a special lady my mom is. She has been one my biggest cheerleaders in life and in my business journey. Everyone’s been supportive of me, but she was the one who said, “Do it! Do it and we’ll help.” So, as I’ve been curating some collections on eBay, I wanted to include a collection of gifts chosen just for her. It was fun to window shop for my mom and here are some things I selected…
I know it’s not glamorous, but I absolutely love my Oreck Steam-It Mop. A few of us chipped in and bought it for my mother-in-law last year because I love it so much. I think my mom would enjoy it, too.
A few months ago, my mom tripped and fell and her iPad took the brunt of the fall and the screen cracked. I’d love to splurge and get her a shiny new iPad. She uses hers to read my blog and play games with my boys, so it’s a very important gadget.
My mom is an exercise nut and is very picky about her shoes. She loves Asics with gel, so I’d love to get her a new pair in this fun color scheme to encourage her to reach her fitness goals.
I picked out a few other things I know she’d enjoy and you can check them out by following my Gift Ideas for Mom collection on eBay. (Now, don’t get too excited, mom!) You can follow all of my other collections like Perfect Pillows, Gifts for the DIYer and Miss Mustard Seed Style HERE.
Love my collections? They can be yours! Share them for a chance to win $25,000 from eBay? See rules here: www.ebay.com/shareitwinitsweepstakes

Hi there! Someone in my Facebook group shared this website with us so I came to
check it out. I’m definitely enjoying the information.
I’m bookmarking and will be tweeting this to my followers!
Excellent blog and wonderful design and style.
I would love an iPad as a gift! Especially the new one, iPad Air or maybe the new iPad Mini. On the other hand, if someone gave me a steam mop as a gift, I would get seriously offended (are my floors not clean enough?!?). 🙂
By the way, for those whose moms (or sisters, or friends) prefer something they can wear for a gift, plenty can be found in my shop (ad is in the side bar here, on the blog). I have other shops elsewhere, and some of those items will be on sale at 9th and Elm starting this coming Tuesday, the 17th. I usually don’t self-promote so blatantly, but ’tis the season for buying gifts, so I thought I’d throw it out there.
I look forward to reading your blog every day as it has been my favorite, until today. Really? Gift items for Mom?
Marian,
I have been so inspired by you in the past and I will never let that go! However, I find your post becoming more egocentric and/or commercial everyday, and that I do NOT find inspiring. Just the opposite, in fact. In a world where commercials are shoved in our faces on a daily basis, I never thought a blog that I went to for inspiration would become, well, a commercial. I will continue to wish you well and be inspired by where you started and how you have become “Miss Mustard Seed”, but you have lost a ‘follower’. This, most current post, ‘Gifts for Mom’, was the. last. straw.
I hope to come back at some point and see that your posts are, once again, more inspirational and less commercial.
Good luck to you and well wishes to your family.
Thank you for what you have inspired me to begin,
Heather
I’m glad I’ve inspired you and I am truly sorry you feel that way. I wish you the absolute best in your business and all you do.

Hi,
I really love my mom too. She taught me a lot of valuable lessons in life. One that comes to mind after reading the above comments is ” If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” Although my favorite posts are the DIY ones I also appreciate learning about new and useful products and what real people think of them. I’m in the market for a new mop. With over 2000 square feet of hardwood on my first floor alone my current mop isn’t cutting it anymore. Thanks for the info Marian.
Wow!!!! It just goes to show that you can’t please everybody Miss Mustardseed.. I hope these negatives don’t discourage you from continuing to provide us with valuable info. I don’t mind at all those posts. I had never heard of Decor Steals until a few weeks ago & now I have made several purchases. I love your blog, bought your book, & found my decor style all ftom you. You may have lost that one, but you will continue to gain many. Keep doing what you have to do to support your family…. 🙂
Love your blog and know how much hard work you put in it. It is good to know you recommend the steam mop…I actually told a girl at work about it for her new home with beautiful hardwood floors.
Mixing a bit of business ( and promoting an opportunity to win some of your favorite things) is fine by me.
Commercialism comes with business success. I didn’t find this post so commercial as it was a personal selection for your own mother. Keep up the good work, Marian!
Hi Marian,
I am new to your website and am drooling! I just ordered your paint as a special gift for my mom. She just obtained an antique vendor space and this will help her have a fabulous start! Thank you!

I’m the Mom and I am flattered. Marian has me pegged and I would love any of these gifts under my tree. Maybe one will be there. :). Thanks Marian Mom
To quote Carrie Underwood, “mean people need Jesus.” Keep up your spirits and the good work!
If you would make/ decorate/ design something for your Mom, what would it be? What’s her favorite milk paint color? Just curious! 🙂
For a few years I have read only one blog every day. This one. There are days when I barely get through reading and jump up to start a project because I read or saw something here that sparked my creativity. And then there are those days when I am not inspired by the subject matter or interested at all. But this is true with most things in my life—My favorite television show is not great every week. My go-to recipe doesn’t turn out fantastic every single time. And even my perfect granddaughter gets on my nerves, not very often, but yes, occasionally. Just because everything is not customized to my personal likes, I would never be so silly as to permanently remove those things that provide enjoyment in my life most of the time. (And I hope I wouldn’t feel the need to advise the offending tv show writer, recipe chef, or precious grandchild that I was finished with them—Kaput! Really?) This blog is free to me but certainly not free to Marian. To help offset her time, stress and energy spent while keeping this blog going strong, I’ll gladly read about something uninteresting to me every once in a while—and I’ll be thrilled when the subject matter strikes an inspirational chord! Inspiration handed to me, while I am in the comfort of my jammies, is hard to come by and I am grateful for her unselfishness. I learned long ago about some things in my life…I try to take what I like and quietly leave the rest. But I couldn’t be quiet this time. May you continue to move more mountains, Marian.
Very well said, Debi! Thank you for such insight. 🙂
Wow, I’m with Debi and the others like her. I thoroughly enjoy this blog and find something that intrigues me at least 95%, if not more, of the time. The other tiny bit of the time, is just part of what happens in life….What Marian and others need to remember is this, when it comes to people liking her/you/me, and/or what we do/say, is that “some will….some won’t… so what….who is next?!” And as far as getting something like a steam mop as a gift…well, last year I told my husband I had several things I was wanting and he could pick out what he wanted to get me for Christmas. 1) the olisso pro steam iron (I do a LOT of sewing and machine embroidery and it is quite expensive and awesome), 2) the Ott light floor lamp with the magnifying glass and the clip holder in addition to the light (again, quite expensive and awesome) for the life of me I can’t remember the third thing, but it was in this category of “useful work related items”. Christmas Eve he gave me my gift. The iron. I was estactic! Then Christmas morning, he gave me the other two! I was upset that he had spent that much money, but he knew they were important to me and would help me do what I love to do. Maybe I am a rare breed….if someone tells you something they want, but you don’t think it’s what they should get from you, well….shame on you. You robbed that person of their particular “joy”, and denied yourself the “joy” that comes from giving. Ok, off my soap box for today! Just remember the SW…SW….SW….WN! (see above if you forgot already 🙂 )
Merry Christmas Miss Marian! I love your blog and your paint! Well said, Debi, Karen and Sharon. You got me thinking about things my mother might really enjoy. Thanks for all the time you take from your family to share with us. It has helped me to enjoy my home more and has influenced my family for the good.
Hi Marian~~~This post was great! Sharing gift ideas that are things your mom would like could be just what another mom would like. Or~~~another blog follower. I wish my mom was still here so I could get her a wonderful present again. Those mean ladies & their comments deserve coal & chia pets under their trees. And yes, they need Jesus as well! This issue comes up on your blog now & then & I must say I have never come across this petty high school stuff on a site before. I love all that you have inspired me to do~~~your candor~~~& your personal style. If I could, I would give you a big hug & say “You go girl!”
Thank you & God Bless You & your family with love~~~good health~~~& abundant joy.
Merry Christmas
Linda XO
