family room updates

Today between church and youth group, I was working on mundane things like cleaning and painting my front door.  On Friday, though, I was able to take some time to get my family room straight after the Christmas decor came down.  I pulled out my clay pot caddy from the basement and finally put it to use holding Crayons for my boys.  I’ve been hesitant to put things out like this, knowing they would probably get chucked all over the room, but now the kiddos are old enough to handle it.  Mini is a little OCD, so she organized them by color and, surprisingly, the boys have been keeping them straight.  It’s also worked like a charm; pulling them away from the wrestling and light sabre battles to sit down and do some pages in their workbooks.  I pulled a couple of mismatched antique child’s chairs up to the coffee table to make it even more inviting.

There’s just something pretty and friendly about crayons.

I also took some time to fill the corner that housed our TV armoire (which we got rid of when we took out the fireplace and brought in the flat screen TV.)  I put the Christmas tree there for the holidays, but once the tree came down, the corner was empty.  I brought in the desk from my living room (it was moved to the basement to make way for the Christmas tree in the living room.)  I’m not sure if it will stay there, but I like it for now.

I hung an arrangement above the desk of some things that have been sitting in my office waiting for a home.  The painting above is by the same artist who painted Eulalie the cow, Cindy.  I spotted this painting on her website and fell in love with it.  There’s something hopeful and exciting about an open country road.

I also hung my favorite antique family photo, a blue & white platter and a “She Knew” print by another one of my favorite artists, Dee of Red Letter Words.  This canvas fit perfectly with first chapter of my book, so I asked for her to make me one in a color that would compliment my home…and it’s perfect.

Well, I’ve loved working on our home for the past few weeks, but I have to admit…I miss furniture.  I miss Lucketts.  I’m ready to get back into that aspect of my business a bit more again.  I also need to start looking towards the Lucketts Antique Market in May…yes, already!  I have to work on my book intensely for the next few weeks, but then I’ll be able to get back into that groove.

Is it sick that I miss painting furniture?
