When I shared about our winter bed last week, I said I would share some more details about the garland draped over the headboard, so that’s what this post is about! Before we get into the details of the garland, I want to address the practicality of having a garland draped over your headboard. Our headboard is very high, probably about 5′ tall, so the garland is up and out of the way, even if we’re sitting up in bed to read. The greenery used for this project is also artificial, so we’re not going to get any shedding. If the garland was going to get tangled in my hair or drop needles all over us, it wouldn’t be a viable option. But, as it is, it works and I really do love the way it looks. If your headboard is shorter, you can always drape the garland on the wall, over a shelf above the headboard, etc.

As I shared in the past when decorating with faux greens, I like to mix a few different garlands and/or picks together to add a variety of textures and colors. To me, it makes the greenery look more convincing and interesting. A couple of years ago, I shared more details about making beautiful garlands in THIS POST. This one is a bit simpler, though. I simply twisted two garlands together.

This look took four garlands total – two cedar garlands and two eucalyptus garlands. The cedar garland I’m linking is one I have from Terrain and, the year I bought a couple of them, they were beautiful and very realistic. In years since, they’ve had mixed reviews, but it does seem like they have addressed the coloring issues. The cedar garlands I used for this, though, were ones I got for under $13 at my local JoAnns. The garland is sold out online, but you might luck out and find them at your local store. HERE is the link. If you apply the curbside pick-up discount on top of their sale price, they end up being less than $13, so I bought several of them. They are perfect for mixing with other garlands to add some bulk and texture.

Since the headboard frame is wood, I attached the garland to it using small nails and florist wire.

It looked a little awkward where the ends of the two garland strands met in the middle, so I added some sprigs cut from THESE faux juniper branches and cedar picks. I then added some long and loose bows in velvet ribbon. The ribbon comes in different colors (I have blue & green, naturally) and I’ve reused them for several years. I also secured the bows with florist wire.

The whole project was simple and I love how it adds a festive feel to the room.
I also made a little arrangement for the side of the bed. There isn’t really room for a tree in here, so this is a nice way to add some greenery and touches of Christmas without going overboard. I made the arrangement out of the same juniper branches, some cedar branches, and non-Christmas greens from Hobby Lobby.

I even tucked some pine cones in there that were collected on my neighborhood walks.

I love it!
I also agree, the vase is beautiful-where did you find that? The blue shell you scavenged is the perfect addition!
It’s a ginger jar from HomeGoods! I love the particular blue color as well as the design. I bought it not too long ago, so you might be able to find it at TJ Maxx or HomeGoods.
I really like your mixed greenery vase. Are all of those artificial branches too?
By adding in the non-Christmas greens you really elevated the look! Not sure I would have thought of that…but I didn’t have to because you did. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
Your bedroom looks so inviting. Just love those chests on each side of your bed ! Few years ago Country Curtains sold a pine/oak chest in their catalog always wanted to buy it immediately but now they are out of business never pays to wait And the Garland is so festive ! Keep your ideas coming !
