two farmhouse style tables…

My parents offered to have the boys over for a sleepover this weekend, so Jeff and I had some time to go out for a date night.  Jeff made reservations at a local farm-to-table restaurant and I asked if we could fit in a trip to a nearby antique shop while we were kid-less.  He knows how much I love it and agreed.

Not only did he agree, but he carried my finds to the counter, loaded them all in the van and even helped me make the decision to buy two old hardware cabinets.  Flowers are nice, but carrying chippy old things to the van for me is definitely the way to my heart!

One of those chippy old things was this coffee table on little casters, made out of old barn wood.

I love how the boards used the make the table-top have some old white paint barely hanging on.

The texture is amazing.

I also picked up a white drop-leaf table that is missing the leaves.  I suppose it’s not technically a drop-leaf table any longer, since it doesn’t possess leaves to drop, but there it is.

And I bought the wood slatted…thing.  I don’t really know what it is, but I do know I like it.

I love how the white paint on the table is a couple of different shades.  A key to doing white well is to have a lot of texture and depth and this table has it in spades.

I also bought a cream-painted metal stool that I paired with one of my new ticking slipcovers.

And this little dress was just too sweet…

And this basket/hamper…

…talk about texture.

We had a busy day in the studio, pricing these and other things and painting up a storm.

Here’s a preview of a piece I’m especially excited about…

  1. Soooo how many days til Lucketts? I am making my list, checking it …. well many more times than twice! Love finds! Happy painting.

  2. When my husband asks what I would like for my birthday/anniversary/Christmas, etc, I’ve been known to say, “help me rearrange the furniture!” I love that Jeff went on the hunt with you and carried the treasures to the van. Now, that’s true love!

  3. Can the “wood slatted thing” be an old washboard?
By the way, your “work in progress” dresser seems to have the exact same legs as an old dresser I painted for our living room. And yes, my dresser’s legs are painted Lucketts Green, too. 🙂

  4. the wood slat thing looks like plaster and lath – the lath part of it. If you google plaster and lath repairs in google images …

  5. I love seeing the layers of white on the table. I’m going to paint my kitchen table and think I want white, but I want dimension too. It seems like I should do a light grey underneath maybe.

  6. Awesome finds. It just amazes me what you can find in antique stores and resale for a profit. That is so rare in my part of California. Good for you!

  7. another idea for a cool product for you would be a wooden hanger similar to the one you have in your photo. it could be painted in your colors/paint and or with hemp oil and the MMS logo on it. or even your logo on a nicely woven kitchen towel… all the best, karen

  8. I think I live in the wrong part of the country for antiquing! There’s nothing like your finds in south Texas. :*(

  9. Great finds!!! Had a moment like that with my husband this weekend?. With the weather being so mild I was feeling like I needed to have some color on the front patio and a much needed pick me up due to having to navigate a bout of vertigo which is going on two months. He suggested we pull out two old pig feeders buried behind my potting shed to fill with spring flowers of my choice. He did the digging out carrying and even filled them with gravel and soil from our compost pile, all ready to be planted. When I was feeing better to navigate, usually later in the day, I picked up some pansies and planted. Felt good to create, embellish and spruce up a barren winter space for the welcome of spring. It is a transitional effort as I usually have my furniture and blue pots out for the milder weather. And it certainly “picked up” my spirits?,inspiring me to work beyond the spinning in my head. Reading your blog does the same for me Marion. Inspiring me to utilize my creativity regardless of my circumstances. You are a Blessing? thank you❤️ And, THANK You husband for the help!

  10. Ohh great pieces!! You always seem to find amazing stuff I tell ya, and I love that coffee table now that’s #antiquegoals

  11. All your finds are great. I, too, noticed the wooden hanger. I have a few old ones like that. thinking of several ways I could embellish/alter them, but I would hate to mess up the simple lines and plain artistry…new wooden hangers just aren’t the same.
