When I was thinking about small businesses I wanted to partner with for the book giveaways, Maryfrances Carter was at the top of my mind. I’ve enjoyed watching her work and creative evolution for years. She is an artist and ceramist whose love for blue and white first drew me to her. What has kept me intrigued is how she continues to find inspiration from a wide range of sources – nature, history, travel, literature, and even ballets. She not only seems to nurture and draw from an endless creative well, but she finds a way to reinterpret her muses to make them all her own. I’m always impressed with her breadth and eager to see what she’s going to do next.
As a ceramist who focuses her work on a blue and white color palette, you might assume she’d get stuck on making traditional ceramics like mugs, bowls, plates, and vases. If you look through her gallery, though, you’ll see she has ventured into jewelry, Christmas ornaments, boxes, and even terracotta pots.
For this giveaway, Maryfrances is offering up one of her Greta terracotta pots. It is wheel-thrown, handmade, and includes a classic MC cameo detail. It really is the most lovely terracotta pot.

I believe in owning pieces that are special, timeless, and can become heirlooms, and this pot is certainly one. It speaks to the creativity and skill of the maker, the time it takes to fashion something with two hands, the gifts we can harvest from the earth, and beauty that can be made from common ingredients.
