Hope you’re all having a wonderful week! I must admit that Thanksgiving has totally snuck up on me this year. I’m working on freelance projects for next February and October right now, so I’m really messed up. I’m trying to get through those, so I can get to the good stuff…decorating for Christmas. I am determined to have full-0ut Christmas decorations this year. Lots of fresh greenery and little trees and I’ve been hoarding anything mercury glass. I apologize if you shop the Hobby Lobby in Hanover or Chambersburg, PA. I cleaned out almost all of the their mercury glass ornaments.
I also got a new toy yesterday…well, it’s an expensive toy and it is for work, but anyway…I got an SB-900 Nikon flash, which is known as being the “flagship” flash for Nikon. I was about to cry when I couldn’t even figure out how to make it work wirelessly with my camera after two hours of thumbing through my camera manual and the flash manual. I finally watched a You Tube video that showed me exactly what I needed to do. Why do these manuals have to be so technical? It’s looks more like a math book. I just want to know how to use it to light a good picture. I don’t want to have to pull out a slide rule or abacus every time I want to take a picture! I was trying to figure it out past midnight and this morning my husband said it looked like a lightning storm was going on in the family room. That cracked me up.
I’ve made some progress, but I’m still struggling. If there are any Nikon gurus out there who wouldn’t mind walking me through some things over the phone, I would really appreciate it. Just drop me an e-mail.
I’m a little chatty tonight. On to FFF and my favorites from last week…
**There were some problems with the link party this week, so feel free to link up again if you’re thumb nail isn’t showing up.
Shelley from Slipcovers By Shelley made a beautiful slipcover for this sofa. It’s amazing, but I am so smitten with that coffee table and the pillows and the chandelier with the wonky shade. This shot looks like it’s straight out of a magazine. Just gorgeous.
ELA from ELA’s Smile and her husband stained and hung this “barn door.” I know it’s not technically furniture, but I’ll let it slide. It’s so stunning, I had to feature it.
I love this subway art dresser featured by Anne from notes by anne. I thought of doing a subway art dresser and I just never got around to it. It looks great and, having worked in DC, I appreciate the DC metro stops being represented! (Yes, there is a metro station called Foggy Bottom. Don’t ask me who thought that was a good name.)
Enjoy the party!

Here are the rules for our furniture get-together…
1.) Your post has to be about furniture. Please, please, please…just furniture. If you find your link has been deleted, it’s not because I’m mean, it’s because your post was not about furniture. You can share makeovers, awesome finds, favorite pieces, furniture arrangements, or even pieces on your wish list! Built-in furniture like kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities qualify as furniture.
2.) Post a permalink (the link to the post), not the link to your blog.
3.) This party will close Friday at midnight PST and I will choose my favorite(s) and feature their piece(s) on next week’s FFF.

Thanks for hosting this Furniture Feature Friday! I look forward to it every Friday!
Am I the only one having issues with Linky’s not showing? I can’t even see the links? Help!
I’m not seeing the links either.
Strange…I can see them just fine.
Strange indeed. I logged off of my computer and logged back in, thinking that might reset something. But I’m still unable to see the links. I’ll check back later.
Okay, so I am totally freaking out. I love this party and hate that I can’t link up. 🙁 I thought maybe that it was Chrome but switched to IE and still nothing…THEN I called my girlfriend (told u I love this party) and she couldn’t see the links either…don’t know what’s going on but I am so bummed!
I can’t see them either. Seems like I can’t see them on ANY of the sites tonight. Grrr!
Thank you so much for the mention and for hosting the Furniture Feature Friday!
The DC Subway art dresser was truly a labor of love– my daughter lives in the DC area and her birthday was last week! 🙂
All the best!
Do you have a link to the video you watched? I have the SB600 that I don’t know how to use 🙁
Here’s the tutorial I watched. Hopefully it will help you!
After 35 years as a Creative Director in the advertising industry, my husband has been a professional photographer, using Nikon. I posed your question to him, and here is his reply:
I have 3 of the SB-800, the older version of this flash and I find them baffling for the most part. They are not user friendly. Nor is the manual. I just set them on Auto and they do well.
I believe to fire them wirelessly you have to either have a second flash mounted on the camera and dedicated to be the control unit, or buy the SU-800 Wireless Speedlight Commander that mounts in the camera hot shoe. It has all of the controls but no flash itself. It is simple to use.
Hope this helps.
Duh… Here’s the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVBhnJnDcnM
Thanks! can’t wait to check it out. I have only owned the thing for about 3 years and feel like a dummy for never trying to find a youtube video.
Thank you so much for hosting! The features were great, especially that door! Love it!
Ok, that barn door is seriously gorgeous. Wow! And the slipcover – love it!
Thanks for hosting. And good luck with your camera issues – I’m a Canon girl, so I’m no help!
Just wanted to let you know I’m not seeing the link, either 🙂
Ditto. I’m not seeing any Linkys either. No way to link up. Thanks for hosting each week!! 🙂
I love that you can find out how to do and fix things on YouTube. We had a vaccuum cleaner that the replacement belt would not fit on properly. After searching for and watching a video, the problem was easy to fix.
Not seeing the link…I’ll come back tomorrow:)
Good luck with your flash 🙂 so many cool things linked up!!! Off to check out a few!
No link here either.
No link here either. Will try again later.
Wow Marian, those are great features. I wish that I could make a slipcover that perfect and that door oh my goodness it’s beautiful. That desk is fab too, so creative. The holidays are coming way to fast for me I already feel behind.I can only imagine how you must feel wit all that you do. Good luck wit your new toy. LOL at lightning storm…too funny.
LOVE this party!! Thank you for hosting!! Linked up my piano:-)
Good Morning –
Thank you so much for hosting…I love the projects you featured…I’m totally in love with the barn door! Have a great weekend.
Yay – our first Furniture Friday. Look forward to all the great ideas! Thank you for hosting this.
It is now Friday morning, 6:00 am CST, and I still cannot see the links! Major bugger!!!
Just wanted to let you know I can’t see any links etiher.
NO LINKS SHOWN! ANY HELP?
No links either, and it’s “sneaked” not “snuck.”
Great DC Metro dresser. Finally, no NYC, or British, metro names.
Love that barn door and it would go perfectly in my house!! I just love everything you pick, but I don’t know how you can as I look through all the links (not right now, of course). On the edge of my seat waiting to see what you do for Christmas decorating!
No links for me either. I love the barn door and your “let it slide comment”. Very punny! Yes, I meant to type punny… funny pun… get it?
Oh no! I need my Friday furniture fix!!!!! 🙁
Nope, no links,
Am I the only one that noticed that fantastic coffee table in the first picture about the slip cover. Love it!
I’m excited for Linky to be up and running again. I have a fun furniture project to post. 🙂
Thanksgiving blindsided up on me too!! Ha!
Hugs
SueAnn
I don’t know how to use my camera- you tube is a great idea! Let the learning begin!!!
Shame about the linky tools but thanks for hosting anyway. I love watching all your continued success here at Miss Mustard Seed. It’s amazing
That refinished barn door is just gorgeous!!!
My kids giggled when we approached the Foggy Bottom subway station on our trip to DC a couple years ago. It took us about three days to get our heads wrapped around the subway system, and then it was easy peasy.
Have a wonderful weekend!
I’m new to this linky party thing…I’m sorry I posted my three times. I guess I didn’t realize it was working.
Yeah the party is on!!!!
Checked several times today to see if the link button was back on line but it wasn’t. I was able to post my link however. This high tech world can be so frustrating at times. Hope it is fixed soon. Thank you so much for hosting Furniture Friday. It is super helpful to those of us who are newbies to the fabulous blog community.
You Tube “how to” videos are the best. I finally learned the proper technique for using my HVLP sprayer from watching a video, stuff I couldn’t get from a book. My kids use it figure out how to make kid crafts and science experiments. BTW, I am watching your Slipcover tutorials, almost done and it is turning out so well!!!! Now, that is something I have always “followed” the book on, your video fixed so many things for me that were wrong. PS Happy Thanksgiving!
foggy bottom, too funny! Loving these part-ies! Thanks for hosting! ^_^
So glad you got this up and running! We’ve been so excited to share our project this week! Have a lovely Thanksgiving week!
Marian, don’t you have a teenager around? Give that camera to them and they’ll figure it out without looking at the instruction manual! My DH got the manual out for our digital indoor./outdoor thermometer to change the time a few weeks ago and worked for way over an hour on it trying to figure it out and I told him to put it down as he was so frustrated. I figured our daughter who was coming over that afternoon would know how to reset it. In walks the 13 yr. Granddaughter; picks it up and has it reset in about 5 min. without looking at the manual. Talk about humiliation! Most kids these days are so technology minded..I don’t even know how to set the VCR! I have trouble understanding what I am reading especially technical writing. I hand it to my DH because I draw a mental blank right away.
Thank you for hosting this link party every week. It’s one of my favorites! I’ve been an admirer for a long time, but was finally able to post a piece of furniture. Yay! So excited to join in the fun.
Hi I love your blog and would love to post something for furniture feature Friday but I’m having a hard time figuring how to post it. Could you help give me an idea?
