wheels, racquets & more…

I had sort of a quiet day, so I thought I would share a few more of my finds from last week as well as some things happening in my house.

I’ve had a thing for bread boards for a while now and this one was just too pretty to pass up.  The patina on the wood, the shape and the way the planks are connected made this piece a keeper.  You’ll definitely see it in some photo shoots before I sell it.

I also bought some industrial-style antique wheels for an upcoming project.

They need a good cleaning with a wire brush and some Hemp Oil to rehydrate the metal and they’ll be good to go.

I was also looking for some things to use as accessories for the boy’s room.  I have a vintage sports thing going on in the room, so this wire bucket of old baseballs was perfect…

I love how some of them are showing their innards.

I also picked up a wooden racquet with a frame on it…

I have a few racquets already that I’ve picked up at yard sales or found in my Opa’s attic.

This one will make a nice addition to the collection.

And I’m hoping to find a spot for this little folding stool in their room as well, but it will most likely go in the “sale” pile, since it’s not the most practical piece for a boy’s room

I picked up a few other things for their room, but I left them at the studio, so I’ll share them later.

One piece that I grabbed the instant I saw it was this white and pale blue quilt…

I cannot even imagine the patience a quilt like this would take to make.  It is old and all hand quilted, but in great shape without and rips, stains or tears.

I have a weak spot for antique linens and especially blue and white quilts.  I tried this one on the back of the family room sofa, but we’ll see if that’s where it stays.

While I was in the family room, I snapped a few pictures of the antique trunk I’m using as a side table.  I found it a few months ago, but never really showed where it landed.  It’s an awesome piece on casters and everything.

The top is a little wonky, so I added a bread board to even it out and make it useable as a side table.  It also protects the basket.  A piece of cut glass would work as well, but I had the board already and I like the warmth of it.

While I was out, I was on the hunt for a mirror for the bathroom and found one that was the perfect shape and size.

Yes, it is an awful beige-peach, but it is a pretty wood underneath, so I’m going to strip it down to the wood.  I think that will look really pretty against the black and white mural paper.

Some fun things have arrived in the mail over the past few days, too.  I have been shopping for the bathroom exclusively online.  It’s so much easier and I have a better chance at finding what I picture in my head at a good price than if I ran around.  The faucet came as well as the tile.

And I received the runners for the stairs…

It’s been really fun for me to work on some of the finishing touches of our house.  I have a very special photo shoot coming up in April and some freelance projects I’ve taken on are prodding me along and giving me a good excuse to get things done and do a little bit of shopping for myself!

Tomorrow, I’m going to start working on the French twins and will make an upholstery video tutorial along the way…

Looks like a lot of fun planned for you. Love the bread boards. I am trying to get my husband to help me make some with wood inlays. I am good with the basics in working with wood but more detail stuff is a challenge. Plus that router just gets away from me sometimes. 🙂

I just realized your leather couch is very similar to mine. Mine is a darker leather and the top middle cushion has some cat scratches. I scored it for free off Craigslist. One of my best finds! Love the vintage sports theme. Our downstairs bathroom (my 13-year-old son’s primary bathroom) is done in a vintage baseball theme.

I love how you used the bread board! I have a very old one that I inherited and want to incorporate it into my home somewhere. Love your blog and it’s one of the first ones I visit every morning.

I just love the faded color and texture of that quilt and I also like how you have styled the boys bedroom using vintage sporting goods and pics. I have a question about the Gray Owl paint color you used recently. Does it have more of a silver or blue undertone? It looks more blue and that’s why I am considering it for our bedroom but I wasn’t sure.

I am so hoping to find some great “pickings” next week as we are planning a trip to Florida and will take a day trip to the Renninger’s antique fair in Mt. Dora while we are there.

I grew up with tennis rackets like those! The would’ve been a great addition to my home. I love a piece that has a story.

Love, love, love your style as well as all your finds!
      : )

love seeing what you purchase and how you use your treasures. I’m interested in the runners you purchased for your stairs. We’re renovating and I never thought of adding a runner…looking forward to your pics of the runners in place

    8. Beth

I LOVE all of your finds! I need to show my husband and sons your stairs especially when you get the runner in. I’ve been talking about taking up the carpet for awhile now, and they freak out!

    9. Lisa

Aha! You found my old tennis racket! I actually played a bit with ones like these and used the wooden braces, too. I loved the solid sound unlike the ping of modern-day aluminum or whatever they’re made of. You always find the greatest treasures.

I am always encouraged by your posts & love all your finds. Do you have any good suggestions for where to find vintage/industrial decor?

    11. Catherine

The handwork on that quilt is incredible. What a find! I wish more people appreciated the time, patience, skill, and talent that kind of work entails. I’m glad it found a good home!!

I really, really like the texture and colors of the stair runners. Both my daughters’ houses have old stairs that could use something to prevent slips and falls. Where did you come upon them?

    13. Vicki

Love all your old goodies! Looks like we have an eye for many of the same things. Love the huge round cutting board and wire basket of old baseballs. I, too, have a number of old wooden tennis rackets (some with wood frames) and have been holding onto them until the right project. But I really like the single racket hung on the wall. You’re so talented. Sigh.

    14. Olivia

How do you know if those old baseballs don’t have mold? Maybe it is just the picture.

    15. marian

They don’t look or smell moldy at all. I think they are just dirty!

    16. Lisa

Yowza, Marian. Are you ready to sell the bread board? Oh, say yes. I’m very interested if you’re ready to part with it.

I’ve been looking for a bread board like this for some time now to no avail. Are the dimensions as large as they look?

Please email me if you’d like to sell it.

      Thanks and enjoy your day,

      Lisa

GREAT FINDS! Is that little fold up stool too small for a luggage holder in your guestroom? It’s so sweet! Also, curious if your boxwood arrangement in the bowl is artificial or real? Love the look!

Hi I like what you are doing with your boys’s room. I am in the process of re-doing my boys’ room too and I am struggling with what to hang on the walls and how to do it without it being to cluttered. The picture you posted looks like the same exact lay out …. do you have any other pics of the room you would share to help me? thank you:)

    19. Cathy

Love the quilt…is it for sale? Love all the stuff you find where do you shop? What size is quilt?
