Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Walmart. As always, all words and opinions are honest and my own.
This is part two of the try-on I shared last week from the new Free Assembly launch from Walmart. You can find that try-on HERE if you missed it and are looking for some cute and very affordable dresses that look flattering on a midsized body. I ordered a bunch of clothes to try, so I split the try-on into two parts so the post wasn’t ridiculously long! There were just so many clothes that caught my eye and the prices were so good that I kept adding more to my cart. (Click on the graphics to shop these Walmart finds and more on the LTK app.)
Lee’s Slimming Straight-Leg Jeans | Levi’s High Rise Skinny Jeans | Levi’s Signature Skinny Pull-on Jeans | Lee’s High Rise Utility Pants | Silky Bow-Neck Blouse | Sweater Tee | Puff Sleeve Sweater Shirt | Cotton Tunic Shirt
As I did with the last Walmart try-on, I took a video to post as an Instagram Reel, so you can see the clothes move, and then I took some stills from the video to share commentary about them in this post. I’ll share about things like the size, the fit, quality of the fabric, how the fabrics washed, and if I kept them or not. As I shared in my last try-on post, I treat these clothes as I would if I were trying them on in the store. I do my best to keep them in brand-new condition in case I decide to return them. The reason I like ordering on Walmart.com and trying the clothes on at home is so I can try them on with other pieces I already own. I think it helps me make more thoughtful decisions about what I keep.

Okay, so let’s try on some clothes!

Levi’s Signature Skinny Pull-on Jeans | Sweater Tee | Single-Breasted Blazer
I ended up keeping all of the jeans, including this pair. (All of the jeans are size 16.) Because they are pull-on and have a nice stretch to them, they are comfortable. I try most of the clothes on with some knit ballet slippers from Walmart (linked below), but I slipped on an old pair of leather boots I’ve had for over ten years. (Again, here is the advantage of trying things on at home!) I’m wearing the jeans with the Free Assembly Sweater Tee (XL) and Single-Breasted Blazer (L.) I felt like the Sweater Tee ran true to size but was a bit more fitted than I was expecting. It was also pretty sheer as I expected from a thin white sweater. That being said, it’s a nice lightweight to wear under a jacket, cardigan, or button-up shirt. If I wore it on its own, I would definitely wear a cami under it, but I am very particular about white shirts! The blazer is so sharp and well-made for the price. It’s even lined and gives off Engish tweed riding jacket vibes. It’s a great one to add to your wardrobe for fall.

Levi’s High Rise Skinny Jeans | Ruffle-Neck Blouse | Knit Ballet Flats
I wore this ruffled-neck shirt (XL) under the v-neck dress in the last try-on and I like it on its own as well. The cotton fabric washes well and I didn’t notice any substantial shrinkage after washing the pieces I kept in cold water and drying on low. The jeans are super cute, too. In the video, I ask the tuck question, because I am not an accomplished tucker. I have not learned the secrets of the tuck. Do you tuck just one side? Just the front? Both sides of the front? The whole shirt? Then, how much do you blouse? Do you have to fiddle with your tuck all day as you move about? I get the concept of why tucking is more flattering (longer leg, shows the shape of the waste, etc.), but I’m falling short at the execution.

Levi’s High Rise Skinny Jeans | Knit Ballet Flats | Sweater Tee | Ruffle-neck dress
When I initially tried on this ruffle-necked dress (XL), I thought it might work as a sort of jacket/smock, so I tried that on while I had the jeans and sweater tee on. I don’t know if I’ll wear it like that, but I like playing with clothes like this. It’s not about how the piece was meant to be worn, but how I want to wear it. I like the look of layering clothes and often wear dresses over pants, so I thought it was worth a try.

Levi’s High Rise Skinny Jeans | Knit Ballet Flats | Blue Striped Tunic Blouse | Navy Cardigan
I then tried on the blue stripe tunic shirt (XL), which has some really cute details on the sleeve and hem of the shirt. I layered the navy cardigan (L) over it, which was a winner. It’s comfy and perfect for fall. I’ve only washed it once, but so far so good.

Levi’s High Rise Skinny Jeans | Knit Ballet Flats | Crew Horse Sweater
I smiled so big when I put this crew-neck sweater on. Of course, I love that it’s blue and white, but the graphic horses galloping across it are just so cute. The palette makes it classic, but the pattern is playful.

Puff-Sleeve Sweater Shirt | Straight-Leg Jeans | Knit Ballet Flats
I switched out the jeans to try the straight-leg Lee jeans. They are a nice, more relaxed-fit jeans. The puff-sleeved sweater shirt is the kind of piece I will wear all the time. I loved that it is comfortable and feels casual, but looks a bit more put-together. If it came in other colors that I thought would look good on me, I would buy another one. It has a great texture and the fabric feels nice and washes well.

silky tie-neck blouse | Straight-Leg Jeans | Knit Ballet Flats
And, lastly, I tried this silky tie-neck blouse (XL.) It ran slightly big, so I feel like I could size down or let it be a little bit more flowy. I like the balloon sleeves and the tie detail at the neck. It’s a very classic shirt that looks nice on its own or under a jacket. I put it under the blazer on the video to show how that looks.
So, I ended up keeping everything! It all fit well and each piece worked with multiple items already in my wardrobe. I felt they would be versatile and they certainly were affordable.

I ordered the dress and horse shirt! Going to the Devon PA horse show in a few weeks! Sweater crew is sold out on line but I will try here in town. Thanks for showing us!
Thank you so much! I appreciate you going through this process since I don’t like trying clothes on your explanation of fit is very helpful. Anything you’ve suggested from past clothing postings has worked and I’ve been pleased.
So here’s the deal, unless you are stick thin, those skinny jeans only make you look larger and they will definitely make you look larger if you shove them into boots. same goes for leggings. I know, sucks.
You already look more balanced/proportionate when you slipped on those straight leg jeans. I’m a size 4/small, 120 lbs., 5′ 6″ and I don’t EVER wear skinny jeans unless I’m wearing an oversized shirt/sweater that hits mid thigh (and shows no hip vs oversized that hugs) because even at 120 lbs. they are not flattering.
Straight leg is the way to go. Keep the boots for skirts and dresses.
As someone who has ridden and shown horses most of my life, I understood Marian’s interpretation of an English equestrian outfit which would include tight breeches, a similar jacket and tall boots. The look she created was spot-on, classic and she looks great. Perhaps you missed the purpose of this post?
Sarah, Sarah, Sarah…
What are you doing? Please stop! That is not helpful.
Marion, you look fabulous in everything!
Sharon W. Thank you. I read the comments about the “deal” and my heart sank. Why can’t we wear what we want without worrying about looking larger or smaller or shorter or taller? I really dislike the pressure people put on each other. Thank you for bringing me back to a good place.
Also, for Marion, loved seeing you play with the clothes and make the dress a jacket.
And the navy crew with jeans stopped me in my tracks.
Sharon I agree! Sarah’s comment was rude and insulting. Marion, your healthy lifestyle is showing you do look absolutely amazing. Sarah do everyone a favor and refrain from future negative comments.
I appreciate the try-on and knowing the sizes of items. To give me a better idea of how the items might translate to my body, could you give your height? Thanks
Sure thing! I am just under 5’6 and tend to fit between Petite and Regular, which is why I have the jeans typically rolled up if I’m wearing a Regular.
This has been fun. Hands down something I’d like to get is that gorgeous green V-neck belted dress.
That’s my fav
Boy do you look nice in navy. And that blazer with your coloring and hair color is so perfect! Back in the day I had a tweed blazer I wore till I got larger – I loved loved loved that blazer Hope you got that and keep that cuz it’s perfect on you – very flattering.
I loved so many of the items you chose! Sadly MOST are not out of stock online- so unless I can find local… Maybe your readers all rushed over and bought it all! I love that you are being brave trying things are for our sakes- particularly because I think you and I must be the same size (I’m a bit shorter) and similar shape, so it is like you are my personal model! Please keep doing this and trying clothes on for us. They all look so cute on you that it helps my self esteem to think it will look the same on me. I will look for a few of the items local. I also love that you stick to core colors- which just HAPPEN to be the colors I choose as well. PERFECT!!
You are wondering about how to tuck. This is what I do and it makes me happy. I am 5’6 and a few …not quite 5’7 and a size 10/12.
I tuck at the front where the zipper is , then I give a tug so it’s blousy over my belt buckle. The tuck is about 6 inches across.
The back hangs relaxed. It pretty much stays put for me.
And I think you look great in everything you tried on.
By the way Fellow readers,If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.
The horse sweater just makes me smile. Thank you for sharing how your purchases look after a couple of washings. I’m so tired of , “it looks so high end”, and then you toss it after one wash. You looked fab in all the jeans, and imo could probably size down in all the tops. (Maybe your head hasn’t caught up with your new size ? 😀 ). I work at the Loft and Dianeh, is spot on with the French tuck, or that’s how we assist :D. Again, thanks for your honest review!
Marian – you look great in everything! Thanks for sharing – it’s so helpful to see you style the items.
This is very helpful, another fashion show for REAL women by a REAL woman. It is also a reminder of how important it is to try on a variety of styles, because sometimes an item looks great on a hanger or someone else, and not on you, or vice versa, it looks like nothing on the hanger, but looks fantastic on your own body! It also helps a person to figure out just which stylistic details work for their bodies so they can just hone in on “v necks with horizontal stripes” or whatever when the time comes to buy something new.
Stylish Marion,
I love the classics, they never go out of style. All those clothes looked great on you; blue is definitely your core color. My favorites were the midi dress/duster over tee and jeans. Also, I swoon over a feminine tailored blouse/shirt; they always upgrade the look. Blazer with T-shirt or sweater with boots and jeans, so sharp!
Ignore Sarah’s most unfortunate comments.
