I had another BYOF workshop last weekend.  (BYOF stands for Bring Your Own Furniture, for those who didn’t figure that out!)  I always love those classes, because I get to help people work on one of their own pieces as they learn how to use milk paint and the finishes.  Not only do they learn, but they get something done in the process.  This workshop was just two ladies, me and my mom, so it was really low key.  I even had the chance to do some painting.

Both of the ladies brought chairs.  The first one was an interesting child’s size chair that doubles as a stool.  It was clearly something that was homemade for a specific purpose, so it’s really unique.

The owner chose to paint it in Shutter Gray, distressed and finished with Antiquing Wax

The other chair was a farm-style, plank-bottom chair, except it’s not old.  It’s an Ethan Allen chair that looks older, because it’s been weathered as it’s been hanging out on a porch for a few years.  The dull finish was perfect for milk paint.

The owner brought the chair’s twin along and, since we had such a small group, I encouraged her to paint the other one, too.  She chose to paint them in Lucketts Green with the Hemp Oil to finish.

She didn’t want the paint to look “too perfect.”  She wanted it to look worn, allowing the wood to show through.

They turned out great and looked perfect with the hutch and table we have ready for Lucketts.

And, while I had things set up and pretty, I couldn’t help but snap a few more pictures…

Kriste and I plowed through some more of our to-do list today and my dad delivered the furniture my mom and I found over the weekend.  The Lucketts stash is really starting to come together and I think we’re going to have a fabulous booth this year.  I’m already praying for clear skies, because there is no way I’m fitting everything under the tents!  I hope you’re all ready to shop!

The twin chair’s turned out awesome with the Lucketts Green. I just love the old farmhouse feel of that color. I am sure you, your mom and these ladies had a great time. I really enjoy classes like that, it is very therapeutic and relaxing for all. I wish you much success and great weather at Lucketts. I wish I could attend, I know it will be wonderful.

I love the chairs! The first one is weird in such a great way :). I can’t get over your sweet white and blue dishes though – they’re scene stealers!

Good morning from Sleepless in WIsconsin,
I’m so hoping to attend Luckett’s this year and bring with me the sunshine that managed to escape your sale this past year. I doubt that I will get a “freebie” for Friday night so I shall be attending on Saturday but I so need the DATE and the HOURS! I am really loving your finished projects so I’m hoping I might return to WIsconsin with “a piece de resistance.” Date asap so that I can plan ahead. Please and Thank You, Marion

Nancy, I’ll answer since I know Marian is so busy! Luckett’s weekend is May 15-17. The hours on Saturday are 8am-5pm. Here is a link to Luckett’s website with all the info on the weekend: http://luckettstore.com/spring-market/ Hope you find some goodies to take home with you!

        Nancy,
I wanted to advise you that if you are going to be driving all the way from Wisconsin to this show then I would seriously plan on biting the bullet and paying the premium admission and attend on Friday. In fact, I would be at the gates when they open on Friday morning. Otherwise, you might be very disappointed with the inventory left by Saturday in her booth.

Marian’s booth is very popular and I can tell you by experience that her Ironstone sells out quickly as well as much of her furniture. What I would hope is that she would split some of her inventory up this year so that the shoppers on Saturday and Sunday have some advantage as well.

The chairs look great! Luckett’s Green is one of my favorite MMS Paint colors. I cannot wait to see your booth at Luckett’s this year! I know it will be amazing. And yes, let’s all hope for a DRY weekend at Luckett’s!! 🙂

I’m so loving all of the green with the blue and white. I was thinking of making grain sack slips for my old English dining chairs but was wondering if the blue and white would clash with the green and cream toile curtains and green kitchen tablets but I see now through your photos it won’t. The chairs came out great. How lucky that they had you all to themselves 🙂

I love how the chair painted in Lucketts Green turned out but I must admit I wasn’t crazy about the child’s chair/stool painted. It had such a lovely oak grain and patina to it and I hated to see all that get painted over. I have a old church pew that I have thought about painting many times but just cant bring myself to do it because its such a beautiful oak.

Ethan Allen chairs look great. She needs to buy your table. No way I could have painted the child’s chair. I loved it the way it was.

I agree, that chair had such a beautiful grain and patina.

I really enjoy all of your posts, your pictures and videos and am amazed at how much you’re able to accomplish each day in addition to being a mom and all the duties that entails. I started getting your posts about a year ago when you were preparing for last year’s Luckett’s and now another one is about to roll around. I wish I lived closer to your area because I would certainly be there in a heartbeat. I’m in Middle Tennessee, however, and am not aware of anything similar around here. If you know of something that would be closer to home for me, please let me know! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you’ll have a dry weekend!

        Nancy,
FYI…..there is a awesome show called the City Farmhouse Pop-Up show in Franklin, TN (outside of Nashville). This year they have added a Spring show in addition to the Fall show in October. I attended the October show last year for the first time and I must tell you I was blown away by the vendors there many which are décor bloggers.

I live in central VA so I have been to the Lucketts Spring show many times as well but personally would rate the show in TN higher. I just wish it was closer! There is a website for the show if you do a search so I hope you will check it out. Although Marian doesn’t do this show, the organizers at last years show set up a demo booth with MMS paints.

I just realized that I have a childs chair in the basement with simple straight lines with a heart shape cut across the back. I was told that a father made it for a child back in the 1940’s. Never quite knew what to do with it but now I know! Your paint! Can I buy the paint from you or can I buy it
      over the counter somewhere? Mary
