Name that color…

***After over 2200 suggestions, I have picked a name for our new color.  Thanks so much to all who played along and the name will be announced very soon!  ***

We recently added three colors to the MMS Milk Paint line and now we’re adding three more!  Trophy (a rich gray), Curio (a walnut brown) and this one…

It’s a lovely coral color created by Abbe (our Primary Educator) and Jennylyn (president of Homestead House Paint Company).  Now, if you know me at all, you know that I don’t have a bit of coral in my house, so this color is a bit out of my comfort zone, but I can’t have an entire paint line with just blues and grays!

Since this color is out of my wheelhouse, I am stumped when it comes to naming it and I need your help!

Share your suggestions for naming this color and, if I pick the name you suggest, you will win a Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint prize package from me!  It’ll include three quarts of paint in the colors you choose, all three of our waxes (Furniture Wax, Antiquing Wax and White Wax), a wax puck, Bonding Agent and Hemp Oil.

Now, keep in mind the other color names in my line – Tricycle, Typewriter, Grain Sack, Ironstone, Lucketts Green, Eulalie’s Sky, Artissimo, Kitchen Scale, Shutter Gray, French Enamel, Flow Blue, Mustard Seed Yellow, Linen, Ironstone and Dried Lavender.

Most of them reference something personal to me, an antique/vintage item, something I use a lot in decor, etc.  It’s a name with little bit of a story behind it.

So, if you’ve ever wanted to have the job where you name paint colors…here’s your audition!

  1. Desert Sunset. Reminds me of the Intense color during sunset that we see in Arizona. (second suggestion: Arizona sunset.) 🙂
    Thanks MMS!

  2. Oh! This is fun! How many tries do we get at this? The first thing that comes to my mind is that I have a coral peony that is so close to this color so I’m going to say ‘Peony Coral’. Maybe Coral Peony sounds better. Still thinking!
    Maggie

  3. That color is somewhere between Georgia Peach and Georgia Clay — so it must be Georgia Coral.

  4. My husband and I have several ideas. We like Starfish or Beach House because it reminds us of all the colorful homes along the beach. We also like Coral Reef. My daughter would love this color!! It’s her favorite!

  5. Sunstone. “Stone” reminds me of other colors in your paint line, but sunstone is an actual gemstone that can be a similar color.

  6. “Geranium”….looks just like the coral/pinky color I have planted currently in my urns….the name struck me immediately 🙂

  7. Hmmmm. Well the piece you featured looks like a little beach crab, the pulls being the crabs eyes and the legs of the table being his front claws, so I am inspired to say “Crab Claw Coral” or “Conch Shell Coral.” Or for a more personal to you suggestion since you just recently went to the Grand Canyon, how about “Canyon Coral.” It’s a beautiful shade in your paint line as all of your colors are.

  8. The coral colored rose represents passion……Passion or Passion fruit? Or maybe grapefruit…..it kinda has that color tone. I like the above suggestion of sunset as well. We are having forest fires in our area and the sunsets are red/coral colored.

  9. My grandmother painted many things this color in the 50s. She called it ‘Swedish Red’ and I remember children’s chairs and furniture in coral. It immediately reminded me of the doll bed I played with there. So Doll Bed!

  10. “Sweet Melon”….. just in time for all of those August-ripe watermelons! Thank you for the opportunity to ‘name that paint’….so fun!!!

  11. The first thing this color reminded me of was my trip to Bermuda…known for it’s beautiful coral sand beaches.
My name for this color would be “Bermuda Sands”.

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to participate!

  12. Love this color! I live in the desert, so I immediately thought of the Grand Canyon. Here are a few recommendations:

    Grand Canyon Coral
    Coral Clay
    Coral Canyon
    Squash Blossom Coral
Penstamen Coral (Penstamen is a desert flower)

Our second love is the beach, so my other thoughts are:

    Island Coral
    Starfish Coral
    Beach Cottage Coral

Hope I’ve helped or at least spurred some ideas 😉

  13. I like “Hibiscus” because it reminds me of coral hibiscus. Or it reminds me of Pink Lemonade which reminds of me Mason Jars, so Mason Jar would be cute. OR I feel like it would be the perfect color of a vintage floral swimsuit and it seems summery, so “Summer” seems fitting too. Excited that you’ve added this color!

  14. Ok. First off… This –> BUT! BUT I JUST BOUGHT YOUR LAST COLORS AND NOW I NEED TO PLACE ANOTHER ORDER AND DANGIT, I HAVE NOTHING TO PAINT! To the garage sales!! ::flips scarf over her shoulder and marches out the door::

And secondly, I NEED to see this grey and walnut color! You can’t just leave a girl hanging like this!

Thirdly, your little table there has a face. Lookit. Aw. He’s just the cutest little table! He reminds me of Sebastian the Crab from the little mermaid. I don’t know why, I try not to question these things. So I shall name him Sebastian. You don’t mind if I name your furniture, do you?

WAIT A MINUTE. Sebastian could be the paint name! It makes sense. ::nods her head::

  15. My initial thought is that it reminds me of a weathered coral, as in the coral reef. I think your paints work well in coastal inspired spaces, so I would go with Coral Reef or Coastal Coral.

So much fun to have your readers help! I’m hoping all of these suggestions will make a choice clear for you, not give you too many options. 🙂

  16. The color is stunning…I don’t have any of that color in my hoise either, but I am tempted to try that color!!!
As far as a name…it looks like Earthenware to me…the terra cotta variety anyhow:)

  17. You have a lot of great suggestions, but I’ll throw mine in there anyway. I thought of tomato bisque when I saw it. It is a fun color and would add a whimsical pop to any room. Very cool new shade!

  18. If I close my eyes after looking at it, I see:

    Bahama Blush
    Key West Sunset
Painted Lady Blush or Pink (after the famous San Francisco houses)
    Soft Adobe Coral
Coral Rose (Both hues are in your color)
    Summer Sunrise

Love the color and can’t wait ’til it’s available!

  19. We just traveled to the Grand Canyon as well, but stayed in Sedona Arizona, this color reminds me of the Red Rocks of Sedona. Sedona is often called Red Rock Country. If you have never checked out Sedona, everyone should. My first thought was Red Rock Country, but that sounded like a horrible song. How about, “Sedona Sunrise?”

Sedona may not give you that personal tie you crave. But, I notice you love a good Boxwood. One last shot, “Autumn Boxwood.”

  20. Just a few ideas! Love

    Orient Express
    Du Jardin
    Tea Party
    Beach Bike
    Garden Rose
    Ranunculus
    Blush

PS I’m coming to the Chapel Market in October…it’s actually the day after my birthday! I’m looking forward to meeting you!

  21. This is a fun distraction from my to do list, what about Cabbage Rose Coral or Cottage Rose Coral, Cameo Coral, like that beautiful background colour of a vintage cameo, or Vintage Coral Rose.

  22. Well I just saw a beautiful primitive doll that was wearing a coral homespun dress so how about homespun .

  23. Lipstick – my color name recommendation! Love the color and all of the blues and grays, too! Best wishes to you!

  24. Ayers Rock or Ularoo. Because the color reminds me of that magnificent site in Australia.

  25. I think Coral Bell would be a perfect name. They are the prettiest little heirloom perennial and the name is consistent with your two other botanical names (boxwood and dried lavender).

  26. Santa Fe Dusk–Adobe Dusk–Dusky Sunset–it is such a pretty color no matter what it is named it will be a success I am sure…

  27. This is to much fun……..
Your other names seem to have come from objects:
    How about

    PANTRY BOX

  28. Schoolhouse… I know it’s not exactly red, but it looks like a schoolhouse faded on the sun to me 🙂

  29. Ok– someone put Coral Bell in as a suggestion while I was typing my comment up. Here’s another– CLAY POT.

  30. This color evokes the elegance of vintage fabric and dressing up. It makes me think of having special occasion dresses made of silk, especially ones with sheen that reflect light and make it seem like the color changes when you walk. Of sitting with your wide skirt and curled hair in a parlor. So…I’ve got a couple of fabric names. It also reminds me of uber-feminine vintage jewelry. Great color!

    Rusty Silk
Brocade or Brocade Rust or Rusty Brocade
    Crinoline
    Cameo Brooch
    Cameo Shell or Shell Cameo

  31. I just came home from Whole Foods and in one of my bags are the most gorgeous Heirloom Tomatoes. The colors are all in the family of your corral-y red…so I vote for Heirloom Tomato…

Gorgeous color by the way. Susan

  32. GEORGIA or AMERICUS (city in Georgia)

red clay roads, red brick buildings…

  33. Chinook – a type of salmon native to the Pacific Northwest and brought to Michigan’s Great Lakes. Another meaning is a warm dry wind that blows down the east side of the Rocky Mountains at the end of winter.

  34. I thought salmon when I saw it but that’s somewhat of a blah name, what about Sockeye?

  35. I was thinking the name should be a German name to honour your heritage.

    Altrot meaning Antique Red

    Koralle meaning Coral

  36. It looks like the background color of the rug you got from your Opa’s house, so how about “Opa’s Rug”?

  37. This color reminds me of the cameo set (brooch/necklace, earrings and ring) my grandfather bought for me while on a trip to Italy. I was a baby at the time so he told my mother to save it for me, someday I would want it. My mother kept it in a lockbox at the bank and would show it to me when we visited. My grandfather passed away when I was only three so I remember feeling grateful to have something that connected me to him and I still do. It wasn’t until I was 25, recently graduated from design school and working full time when I asked my mom for the set. I treasure it and think fondly of this loyal, loving, special man whenever I wear it. It connects me to my past and heritage.

I would call this color Grandpa’s Cameo but Vintage Cameo or Italian Cameo would probably apeal to the masses. Thanks for letting me share! I always love your work and admire your vintage style!

  38. I love this color! Some possibilities: Santa Fe, Gladiola or Flamingo. I am loving all the other suggestions. Always thought it would be such a great job to be a color name inventor!!

  39. It appears to be a salmon color and your state fish, the brook trout, is a member of the salmon family. So “Brook Trout” it is!

  40. Because this reminds me of my favorite place on Earth (Destin, Florida & the many surrounding charming towns including Seaside & Watercolor), I’d go with Watercolor Coral or Seaside Coral.

  41. I really like some of the suggestions… Clay Pot, Heirloom Tomato, Faded Brick, and Schoolhouse. My first thought was Lobster.

  42. Marian, I love all of your work! You are such an inspiration to me.
I think “Chandelier” would be a nice reference to your Opa’s chandelier you just inherited. I also think “Ruby” is a cute and fitting name for this color.

  43. Made me think of those old hand-pump water pumps. I think the name “Water Pump” fits nicely in the line. I’d say”Antique Water Pump”, which has a nice ring to it, but if you’re pumping water by hand, it’s most likely an antique pump by default. :0)

  44. Seahorse, shrimp, flamingo.

Flamingoes are pink because they eat a certain type of shrimp.

  45. Love milk paint colours! I suggest the name “Raspberry” for this colour!

    Love your blog…….

  46. I, too, think Coral Bell is a perfect fit. It’s a very old-fashioned flower that evokes a garden cottage with a picket fence, from simpler times. It would share the garden with Hollyhocks & Foxgloves.

  47. What a lovely new color! For whatever reason, the name “Cora’s Petticoat” sprang to mind. My daughter introduced me to your site…she was always quoting “Miss Mustard Seed”…and I love it! Thank you.

  48. Rustic Sunset
    Sahara Dawn
    Sahara Dusk
    Terra cotta
    Kalahari Desert
    Le Red Sand
    Sorbet
    Coral Sunset
    Coral sherbet
    Coral Reef
    Peony
    Dahlia
Sorry for the long list our family had a brainstorming
Session driving home from a soccer game 🙂

  49. The flowers in my garden closest to this color ARE my hollyhocks. They are a wonderfully old fashioned flower and the name would be a perfect fit…..I vote for Hollyhock!

  50. This color reminds me of my sweet 4 year old boy’s cheeks when he’s been playing hard. I’m sure you’ve seen the same rosy, flushed cheeks on your own sons! Maybe Cherub, Sweet Cheeks, or just Cheeks?

  51. Not the most melodious name but I’ve seen Cranberry Mustard that color. And a play on your name. So, Cranberry Mustard it my offer!

  52. Reminds me of the copper in your kitchen. Copper kettle, copper bowl, or maybe copper colander.

  53. I want this color! How about Coraline? It has an old fashioned ring to it and incorporates the color. I looked up the meaning and it means “from the coral of the sea” in Greek.

  54. I love the color. Staying with the “seed” in you blog name and Ochre is a color pigment of a orangey/reddish color. I like “Ochre Seed” and you could add Vintage or Antique to the name. Also, “Cinnabar Seed” goes along with the orangey/reddish color.

  55. Because one of the main colors in the field of the rug (the one you loved and recently took) from your Opa’s house looks very similar to this paint color, you could name the paint in memory of your Opa.

Omage to Opa (omage is the same as homage—just an old english variation. or maybe
Homage to Opa — lol — shortened this would be H2O.

Love the color. Looks beautiful with blue!

  56. corallium
    lobster red
    carousel coral
    boat house coral
    chubby cheeks

The color makes me think of new England.

  57. In the heart of the Ozarks where I live, wild & untamed persimmon trees produce fruit that color. So, my suggestions are:

    Wild Persimmon
    Summer Persimmon
    Persimmon Tree

The color is beautiful & rich. It will be very popular! 🙂

  58. Sanguine Blush …. This is clearly a happy and optimistic color! I just love it!!!

  59. How about Russula? Since you are in Va it is a coral colored mushroom found in Northern Va.

  60. Chelsea Coral?

Why? It seems fitting with the concept of your milk paint, and your style…

CHELSEA: Soft paste porcelain England. 1745 -1784. The finest and most significant 18th century English porcelain. The porcelain was of a white milky glass. Flower sprays were painted to conceal blemishes in the porcelain.

  61. It can be most accurately described as Nantucket Red but could also simply be ACK which is the call letters for the Nantucket airport. Please, pick me.

  62. This looks just like the begonia blossoms in the urns on my porch right now… So Begonia. My other thought was a sunset and the saying about red sun in the morning
sailors take warning, red sun at night, sailor’s delight. So, Sailor’s Delight.

  63. This is obviously Nantucket Red, the color of the faded canvas pants. Other names: Faded Brick, Grain Sack Stripe. Minnow bucket. (the red lettering on a minnow bucket). Or, how about Grand Canyon? Ann

  64. It looks a bit like the color of the pears on your table in your header- maybe Bartlette or Anjou?

  65. In the south, there is a vine that grows wild, and you see it hanging on old weathered fences and woven in with purple Jaspers on lazy country roads. It’s called Foxglove. It has a small, bell shaped flower that is dainty and small and beautifully spans all shades of coral from reds to oranges. I think Foxglove would be a good description. I also like Clay Pot.

  66. Conch Shell …. It reminds me of the pink/coral color that lines the conch shell….or you could just call it Conch!

  67. Love the color…..and the desire to win your prize package has me submitting my suggestion: Tuscan Red

  68. Bubblegum, Geranium {it reminds me of salmon pink geraniums} or Rosy 🙂

I love this color whatever you decide to name it!

  69. Well, whatever it winds up being called, it is beautiful. I am working on a guest room which could use a piece in that color, so how about Coastal Coral?

  70. Oh, how fun . . . and what a good red for us usually-non-red-types!

reminds me of the red that the antique Radio Flyer scooters fade to — that iconic faded red patina . . .

    how about:
    SCOOTER
    SCOOTER RED

  71. Abbe House Coral. But then we have to include Jennylyn. Coral Jenny. Abbe’s Coral Jenny?
    AJ’s Coral.

  72. Shell

…because shells are such a beautiful natural object, who doesn’t love them and who doesn’t pick them up and bring them home….and they have a lovely delicate pink secret inside….I nearly said Coral Shell, but I think Shell by itself is so evocative of the beach and seaside sunsets…. and I know I’ve seen shells in displays in your home so I know you love them too…. 😉

  73. This is the color of Alpenglow, the color the sunset reflects onto the east landscape. You must have seen this in Germany. It is quite magical. I see it almost every day in Colorado.

  74. This color looks very ‘old world’ to me.. It reminds me of the wonderful colors of Venice- I wrote in my journal that all of Venice seemed to have a coral tint, ranging from the deeper tones of paint to the subtle hues of the stone. How about Venitian Rose?

  75. i think it is a faded out hot red, and i would name it:

pepperberry as it reminds me of a red peppercorn

i love your paint and all of your inspiration! my thanks, karen

  76. It reminds me of a Summer Sunset!! I love coral with taupe, gray, brown, white – it goes with almost anything & is the perfect pop of color against blues, too!! When I re-do my Master bedroom & bath, it will have THIS coral as an accent!! BEAUTIFUL!

  77. Carnival Glass – It reminds me of some of the carnival glass pieces my mother has collected over time.

  78. This beautiful new color is the same color as a common plant known as:

    “Trumpet Vine”

    Or

    “Trumpet Vine Blossom”

  79. I see the sled from Citizen Kane (although the original is in B&W, the retouched one showed a faded red), so Rosebud or Barn because it reminds me of a barn I saw in the French countryside last year.

  80. The first thing that came to mind was Old Pavers. The soft coral looks like years of wear.

  81. Reminds me of the orange color of those push-up popsicles, so what about Dreamsicle? Pretty color regardless of the name!

  82. It really is different from your usual mix. That color would be delightful as an accent color. So how about Coral Delight or Coral Accent!

  83. “Ditch Lilly” It’s what the locals in rural Wisconsin call the lilly plants that grow wild along the roadside!

  84. Sea Shell because it looks just like the inside of a Florida Gulf sea shell…..I also like Rusted Wagon – because it looks like an old wagon I bought recently.
    Barb

  85. The color is very reminiscent of the inside of a queen conch shell. Big white bowls filed with shells are found in a lot of french country design. Also the inside of the conch is used to make carnelian cameos. So my suggestions are 1)carnelian conque (the french word for shell), 2) carnelian cameo, 3)vintage cameo.

    Have a nice day

  89. Tomato bisque, Sun Dried Tomato, Redrum, Barn Door, Radio Flyer, Pull Wagon, Blush, the possibilities are endless!!

  90. It’s the color of my mother’s favorite rose. She has been dead for years, but every time I see this color I think of her favorite rose. I would call it “Miss Helen’s Rose”

  91. Oh my goodness that is the exact color of my purse! Since “Pauline’s Purse” is a little too off the wall, I’d suggest “Favorite rose” as this is really my favorite shade in the pink/rose/coral family. I have a t-shirt this color too. I am also very excited about your brown! Sounds rich and lovely! Can’t wait for all of the new ones! Its almost like waiting for sweater weather to arrive. 🙂 Take care! — Pauline

  92. It’s the color of my grandpa’s favorite tractor. All aged and faded. So many great memories of riding along with him, while he plowed the fields. I’d call it Grandpa’s Tractor. When can we purchase this? I’ve got a bench I got from the farm I want to paint with this.

    Sow’s Ear
    Mailbox
    Geranium
    August Sunset
    Coral Rouge
    Rouge
    Gettysburg
    Gettysburg 150

    1. I would like to suggest the name Pumpkin Apple Strudel. Doesn’t that sound yummy?

  103. I love all the names above, but I was thinking something Cottage/Beachy since that is so well loved right now. How about Coral Reef?

  104. It reminds me of tomatoes. We have a festival in Bradley county, that is famous for its Pink tomato festival. Right before the Bradley tomatoes get fully ripe, they are that color. I live in Arkansas which is close by Bradley county. Tomatoes are a primary source of income for farmers in this area.
I have just recently discovered MMS. Love it!

  105. I am going to toss out the name. Coral Cream. The color is not a true hue, but rather has a touch of creaminess to it…softens it and makes it richer, just like cream does when added to a dish.

It also reminds me of your style, where you take the hard edges of life (and decorating) and soften them up.

As an alternate on the same lines, Coral Bisque. Or Coral Patina.

  106. Persimmon Blush
    Tiddlywink
    Rosie Posie
    Desert Rose
    Sandwash Tulle

  109. How about “Patrick Starr”, It would be personal to you if your boys watch SpongeBob Squarepants a!!! Everybody knows about SpongeBob !!!!

  110. Coralie

    Wagon

    Abbe (after the creator)

    Parasol

    Georgia clay

    Peony

Coral is one of my all time favorite colors-
thanks so much for adding it to your paint line!!

  111. How about Sweet Melon or Antique Coral. Or maybe something totally different like “Concert Hall”. Love your blog and your paint!! I am so looking forward to seeing you at the Chapel Market here in Alabama!!!!! You’re going to love the south. Hey maybe after your visit here you might want to name it “Southern Charm”!

  112. you have such clever names for your paints ;). I think it is the same color as the unglazed part of “yellow ware “so that’s mine, maybe “old sunset” good luck .

  113. sienna sunset……………I live on the Oregon Coast, and I immediately thought of the beautiful color of the sky as the sun goes down!

  115. My choices would be Weathered terracotta, Aged terracotta, or Cottage terracotta.

  116. First thing that came to mind was ” heaven’s kiss”. It looks like the sky when the sun is setting and my grandma always said it was the heavens leaning down to give us a kiss at the end of the day :). I think this name has a lot of meaning but I also like “desert rose” or ” apricot sorbet”. Good luck finding the perfect name!

  117. I love the new color! It looks like Firey Flamingo!
But I do love Nancy’s suggestion of Tomato Bisque also!

  118. “Coral Colonial”. Since you love antiques, most of the historical colonial houses here in Fredericksburg like Rising Sun Tavern and others using this color inside as in colonial times. Gorgeous color!

  119. I see that and think Spray Rose. A nod to the antique and fun bright color! Kinda goes with Dried Lavender and Boxwood (which I didn’t see in your name list but am thinking is only a matter of time?) 🙂

  120. How about Calico Quilt? (It’s got that same hard “c” sound, and it makes me think of all the bright colors found in quilts.)

  121. My contribution is “strawberry ice cream”. We ALL of us must have many happy memories of indulging in that favorite.

However, looking through the previous comments, I also think ‘cameo’ and ‘conch’ are excellent choices, with ‘cameo’ having particular significance to your love of antiques and treasured finds.

Good luck finding that perfect name.

    Caroline R.

  122. My thoughts are:

    Perfectly Pomegranate
    Shrimp Bisque
    Salmon Croquette
    Precisely Pomegranate

  128. I have the perfect name for that luscious new color……
    bougainvillea.

which I have been coveting for-ev-er, but have not been able to purchase.
what a treat it would be to win your paint kit!!
    & celebrate bougainvillea!!
I LOVE your blog!!!!! …it inspires me everyday!

  129. It is a sweet addition to your milk paint colors!! AND….I do believe it should be “poppie pink” or “posie pink”.

  130. Old St. Louis: because it reminds me a lot of the brick we used on our house by that name.
    Creole tomato or strawberry wine!

Thanks so much for adding a coral to you line…it’s my favorite color!!!

  131. staying with the natural theme of dried lavendar I immediately thought of…

  134. A couple of more ideas…Flip Flop Red, Autumn Harvest, Lollipop, or Turkey Wattle Red!

  135. I nominate Coral Belle. Coral Bells are an herb related perrenial plant. They are exquisite beauties in a garden bed, that actually raise themselves up out of the ground.

  136. I like Coraline. (Sorry if this has been mentioned already. I couldn’t read all 270 comments!)

Like you said, the color is a little different than your other colors, and the name Coraline is a little different too.

When I saw this color, it reminded me of an English schoolgirl. The Latin, and English meanings of Coraline are all “from the semi-precious sea growth coral.”

This color is not semi-precious though. It is 100% precious! 🙂

  137. It reminds me of cream of tomato soup, so perhaps tomato cream or creamy tomato.

  138. That was my grandmother’s favorite color! She called it Sky Blue Pink because it reminded her of a beautiful sunset.

hope you are all having a great weekend..it’s just beautiful here on Maryland’s Eastern shore.!!

  141. Know it’s not exactly the right shade but what about Opa’s Door or Opa’s Steps or Opa’s brick? I just immediately thought of something that would honor your grandfather.

  142. The new “old Opa rug” you got has some of this tones in it no? It also looks faded or worn out like if a red rug stayed in the sun. So I would call it:

    OPA RUG

I live in Hawaii and we get a lot of this color in the sky at sunset :

    TROPICAL SUNSET

  143. My suggestion is Coral Gables. It makes me think of a pretty faded color on the gables of an old plantation.

  144. For your new paint color:
    Bashful Begonia
    Colonial Coral
    Harbor Sunset
    Salmon Brick
    Hopeful
    Rusty Ironstone

  145. I instantly thought of “Coraline” – such a lovely color
    – I cant wait to see it in person.

  146. It reminds me a lot of the vintage pyrex I collect. It makes me think of a bright, white farmhouse kitchen, fresh bread and aprons.

I submit the name ” Faded Memories” as it looks like a color you would see on a piece of much loved furniture that had seen a lot of days.

  152. A few for your consideration: Flamingo, Cajun Shrimp, Nassau or Beneath the Sea. Beautiful color!

  153. As it reminded me in the first second to AUTUM LEAVES, that is the name I would go for.

    Salmon
    Santa Fe
    Claudia loves coral 😉

  157. ooo! what a giveaway.

others have referred to the sunset but that’s the feeling I got from this color too. so how about keeping it simple and call it “Sunset”?

  158. My first thought was Coraline, but I see someone beat me to it. Coraline is a darling little blonde haired girl who lives across the street from me. She is always so bright and happy with a great big smile, and just as smart as can be. This could definitely be her signature color! … And you know, a little pop of this color would look awesome with your blues and grays!

  159. My two suggestions:

Conch (it’s the same color as the inside of a conch shell)

    or

    Kettle

  160. When I first saw this color right away it reminded me of an apron that my grandmother used to wear all the time, so my choice for a name is Grandma’s Apron..Happy Weekend..Judy

    1. An apron was one of my thoughts too, my grandmother’s specufically. 🙂 I purposely didn’t look at other suggestions so I wouldn’t get ideas – but obviously great minds think alike.

    Italian Coral
    Tuscan Red
    Tuscan Coral

    First kiss
    Rose bud
    Carnation Corsage
    Groom’s boutinniere
    Raspberry Buttercream

  167. Ciao – that’s what I think it should be. In Italian it means hello or bye. But Ciao is perfect, happy, bright paint color.

  168. kind of reminds me of quince – an old spring flowering shrub I admire in other peoples yards, but can’t seem to get going in my own…..

  169. Now I KNOW you saw this color on your vacation to the southwest! Why not name it something that reminds you of and celebrates that special time?

  170. As soon as I saw it, I said “Peony Peach.”

Love all the blues, but it is fun to have a pop of another color! Brenda

  171. I think, especially in light of this color being introduced during your trip out west,
    “Adobe” is perfect!
But if you want to stick with an east coast esthetic, my second suggestion is “Brick”.

  172. Book Jacket or Book Cover

Every old red book I have in my shop has a faded cover of this color!

  173. Marian, I just got back from a month in eastern Europe (where I know a lot of your fabrics come from), and I saw this exact color, in varying shades, splashed everywhere in the old town areas. Check your email for proof/inspiration photos. 🙂 I’m sure you remember similar sites from your childhood in Germany.

Based on this, my suggestions are:

    Old Town Coral
    Old World Coral
Continental Coral (has a nice ring!)
    European Coral
    Old Town Rose
    Old World Rose
    Continental Rose
    European Rose

    How about:
    Coral lipstick
    Ripe peach
    Peach tart

    Cobblestone
    Rose chintz

  177. Coastal sunset- I live on the Oregon coast and see this color in the sunset all the time!

  178. After looking at some vintage Radio Flyer wagons I think a better name instead of Faded Radio Flyer would be “Sun Kissed Radio Flyer” ” Sun Baked Radio Flyer”

  179. Old Barn Red
    Ripe Pumpkin
    Red Dirt Road
    Crab Apple
    Persimmon
    Sunset Porch
    Peachy Keen
    Vintage Blush

  180. My mother had (and I now have a collection of rolling pins and I always loved the red handles. So, I was thinking either Rolling Pin Red or Peggy’s Rolling Pin. I tried to attach a picture of the rolling pins, but couldn’t figure out how in the comment 🙂

  181. oh my I just read all the other ideas, and was happy my ideas did not yet show up….

    soft petal

    aged rosewood

    old barn

    Blush for Me

hope you like one of these, I kind of like the last one….
Thanks for getting us in the act of it, its exciting, and I have planned to do a lot of
your projects and love the paint. Good luck with the naming.

  182. “Indian Paintbrush” – a beautiful wildflower that blooms in Texas to welcome Spring

  183. So, no lie… since I can remember, I’ve always said if I could do any job it would be the person that names paint chips. My mister can totally back me up on this. So funny. So, of course I can’t resist and I din’t have to even think about it. The color immediately took me back to my trip to Martha’s Vineyard 15 years ago (I was a native Californian and had never seen anything as lovely as the east coast and MV in my life). The town is called Oaks Bluff where all of the rows and rows of victorian gingerbread house/cottages stand brightly since the 1800’s. To call it quaint and charming would be an understatement. In that town there is also a historical whimsical carousel called the Flying Horses Carousel that screams of this color! This shade could be seen in the architecture, the carousel, the sunsets, beach cruisers, and more. Just lovely. This color took me straight back to those beachy, breezy days full of color. So there’s my story, and here are my thoughts:

    Carousel Coral
    Flying Horses Coral
    19th Century Coral
    Bicycle Built for Two
    Beach Cruiser Coral
    Harthaven Coral
    Oak Bluffs Coral
    Summer Colony
    Colonial Coral
    Cottage Coral
Camp Meeting Coral (the cottages were originally tents where the camp meeting association settled)
    Martha’s Sunset
    Vineyard Sunset
    Ginger Sunset
Duke’s County Coral (name of county where Oak Bluffs and also my late grandfather’s name!)
    Victorian Trim
    Martha’s Coral
    Shingles
    Ginger Eaves
    Cottage Row Coral
    Architect’s Coral
    Victorian Coral
Wampanoag Coral (after the native language of the original tribes inhabiting the coastal region-apparently the language was used to print the first bible in the Americas in 1663)
    Chappaquiddick Coral
    Noman’s Land Coral

You get the drift… wow, that was fun. Good luck! I’m sure you’ll have a ton of great ideas. 😉 You have to google some of this to see what I mean. Endearing.

  184. I grew up at the Jersey shore (Wildwood Crest). My immediate thought when I saw this color was Mermaid. 🙂

  185. Barn Door
    Barn Side
    Aged Barn Door
    Aged Barn Side
    Vintage Barn Door
    Vintage Barn Side
    :))) good luck

  186. Thank you for the fun contest! I enjoy naming things, so here goes:

You mentioned that most of your paint color names reference something personal to you, so I thought of your grandfather’s home, as you have written about it recently.
These would be my top three choices:
    Opa’s House
    Richmond
    Memories of Opa.

When I scrolled through the pictures of your last post about his house, I saw that the wall behind the deer, the dishes and the antique carpet seem to have some light red/coral in them.

Also, the color itself reminds me of the red rocks in the Utah area, that we were able to see in June on our family’s Grand Canyon/Bryce Canyon/Zion trip.
I’m not sure if you were able to see those, but the red rocks are beautiful, and aren’t a “true” red, but more coraly, especially when boys’ socks are covered in it 🙂

So, Red Rock(s) would be my fourth entry.
    Thanks again!!

  187. How about Autumn Bittersweet, or Fall Bittersweet, after Japanese Bittersweet, a beautiful but invasive vine I often used as fall decoration in my home in Ct.

  188. If it’s red enough I think it would be cute to call it ‘barn siding’. But I’m thinking it might be to light and orangy for that. What about ‘marmalade’?

  189. I might call it Apron
It reminds me of a color in a vintage 1930s calico.
Reinterpreted on a chippy piece of furniture, I think it looks super fresh.

  190. Chinook was the first thing that came to my mind because on my monitor it looks salmon.

  191. The first thing I thought of was a beautiful vintage cameo! They were often carved out of coral and the color reminds me of the background coral that would then have a white lady’s head on top. Cameo Coral?

    1. Or vintage cameo. Started looking at more coral cameos and the color is right on! They’re so beautiful too!

  192. It reminds me of warm summers in Florida….old Florida…so how about Gulfport coral!

  193. Nell’s Honeysuckle

When I saw the color Nell came to mind, my great aunt and her old fashioned flower garden with a unplanned mix of colors around her back porch. The sweet honeysuckles brought in the hummingbirds. The hycyntheias and stock were taller than me! I can still remember the pleasant times in her backyard. Simple beauty. Plus, of course, the sweet honeysuckle nector!

  194. Wow — you have lots of choices going here! Love your other names — so what about Sassy Blush? That color will sass up any room! 🙂

  195. I like Sweet Paprika, Indian Summer, Georgia Clay, Mild Cayenne, Coral Reef, Rusty Coral, or Coral Gables.

  196. Such a pretty color! It reminds me of my grandmother’s garden- she LOVED coral and it showed in her flower choices. That said, how about

    Hibiscus
Coral Sunset (one of her roses)
Coral Charm (one of her peonies)

  197. Lovely color. I am going to order mine now. Love the Walnut brown too!! How about Calico , Subtle Poppy or Indian paintbrush or Arizona Sky.

  198. How about Strawberry Jar or Strawberry Pot, after the terra cotta clay pots people plant strawberry’s in.

  199. I love this new color although I am not much of a coral girl myself, either. It reminds me of August zinnias. Those gorgeous coral zinnias I love so much toward the end of the growing season. It’s a color to liven up your home even during the dead of winter.

  200. Abbelyn (pronounced abbylyn) its a combination of both ladies names who so brilliantly came up with such a beautiful color. Which, I’m sure if asked, could have a story and somewhat sentimental value – everytime you see that color it will remind you of the creativity that happens when you put two great minds together.

  201. I think you should call it “schoolhouse brick” or “lil’ ol’ schoolhouse”

  202. Serendipity
    Picadilly
    Vintage Thread
    Weathered Sunset
    Summer Sonnet
    Berry Basket
    Bottle Cap
    Spindle
    Petal

  203. Rusty Metal, Rusty Keys, Rusty Frying Pan, Rusty Gate, Rusty Garden Gate, Rusty Springs, Rusty Junk

  204. Oh my goodness! I am so in love with this color. My gramma had an apron this color. She also painted everything. There was a step-stool this color that I used to stand on to help her cook. Maybe Gramma’s lipstick or step-stool.

  205. BTW, I just painted an old rocking chair a coral color, and will upholster the seat in brown ultrasuede, and put a full repeat of a beautiful floral in a basket, on the back. I cannot post for your furniture feature friday, because I don’t have a website yet.

I love your posts, and am enjoying all of your successes. It seems they are coming one after another. I was just thinking about trying your paint today. Anyway, the new paint color is very pretty, and I know you will find the perfect name for it.

    1. Daylily–there’s one called Cape Coral that is gorgeous–for the flowers you WILL plant in your garden someday 🙂

Flamingo–for the good memories of visiting your parents in Florida

      Coral Reef–Florida memories again

  206. It reminds me of watching the sunset in Mallory Square having pina colada on the dock, so how about Key West Sunset?

  207. It should be named ‘Ode to Opa’, it’s a perfect complement to the wool rug you got from him. Good luck choosing!!

  208. I messaged you on Facebook with my thoughts on the right name…..Thank you for always being such a positive role model. God’s Blessings now and always…….

  209. “Heirloom Peach”
Just finished making cobbler with fruit from the farm stand down the street!

  210. Reminds me of that old saying, Red sky at night Sailor’s Delight, Red sky in the morning, Sailors’ Warning. Which makes my pick for this dreamy color, “Sailor’s Delight”!

  211. adobe brick or indian summer – its more of a summer color then fall… in California when the summer runs hot right into Halloween the sun cast a color like this in the evening.

  212. Coralline–just a nice old-fashioned name
    Modesty–what coral-colored roses stand for
    Coralino–a Spanish word for coral
    Impulse
    Crush
    Sundown
    Suitor
    Schoolgirl
I prefer the simple with its varied implications. To stray from that:
    Sedona Sky

  213. Rusty Wagon

It reminds me of my little red rusty radio flyer wagon that I had as a kid.

  214. Well I hate to say it because it will not allow me to win but I love Elizabeth’s name Red Dirt Road =)

  215. Faded Rust

    Faded Tractor

    Faded Clay

    Faded Barn
    Faded Coral Reef
    Faded Coral Bells
    Faded Salmon
    Faded Yam

  216. Redwork (the old fashioned embroidery style). Since the color is light/faded red, you could even go with Vintage Redwork or Old Redwork.
    Otherwise, Persimmon Tree.

  217. Introducing Miss Mustard Seed’s KORALLEN. Since you don’t use this color in your decor…call it what your ancestors would have called it…is this not the German translation?

  218. Name it after your cow Adele

    either:

Adele’s Ear (the inside of the ears are similar to this color)
    or
Adele’s Smile ( her nose/mouth looks similar to that color)

  219. Farmers Market ….. This was the color all around the farmers market today from the fruit to the flowers.

  220. Love the color. Reminds me of Southern Sunrise. So that is my suggestion. Or, Tulip, Heirloom Tomato, Faded Cherry, Weathered Clay, Southern Clay. Or if you want to be morbid, dried blood! LOL!

  221. Wool Rug – in honor of the beautiful rug from your Opa’s house

Rocking Horse – the base of the antique rocking horse you picked up a few years ago reminded me of this color

Wild Rose – a place where you used to sell your creations

  222. Canyon Coral–maybe start naming new colors of places you have visited or want to visit.

  223. How about Skipjack? It’s a type of tuna. To me, this looks a bit like salmon or a tuna steak.

  224. Wren’s Egg (it’s really the color of a House Wren’s Egg but that’s a bit of a mouthful).
    Persimmon Tarte

  225. It reminds me of the old weathered rowboats you might see up in Maine. So maybe “Dinghy” or “Dory.” Or if you are seeking a more recognizable name “Rowboat” or “Canoe” although canoes are usually more red.

  226. How about summer sunset? It reminds me of that perfect hue when the sun is setting and you try to eke out the last minutes of daylight in the summer.

  227. Coral Inspiration, Vintage Rose, Vintage Dreams, Simply Coral, Coral Skies…. I can’t stop thinking!

  228. Marian, I too have a preference for blues and usually hate oranges, but this coral paint is a fabulous shade. A piece of furniture in this colour somewhere in your house would definitely pop against all your blue and white. For a paint name, how about

    Coral Bead

    or

    Coral Cameo (like the jewellery).

I don’t know how you narrow it down to just one name!

  229. Washington apple …. 😉 I believe you know what I am referencing this too 🙂

And those apples have the same colors 🙂

  230. I love vintage linens that have been hand stitched and embroidered. Many of the tablecloths, pillowcases, and hankies have flowers that have been beautifully stitched in this brilliant warm color. I was thinking something like Embroidered Poppy Pedal. I also kind of like the name Thread and Brush. It is kind of fitting.

I also have seen a lot of vintage jewelry such as broaches, necklaces, rings ect. in this color. Glass Bead would be a unique name.

I am sure whatever you choose will be perfect. I love the color and I love your line of milk paint.

  231. Opa’s coral since I noticed that color in a lot of his belongings, chair covers, rug, display dishes. I also like Mountain coral since it reminds me of the mountain color out west.

  232. Koralle (German)

    Tea Towel

    Old Book

Vintage Pickup or Pickup Truck Red

    Line-Dried Ticking

  233. Rusty Bolt (for all the old things that surround you) I am picturing this bolt, a pic I took from a geocaching website).

    or

Passion Fruit (you are very passionate and as a nod to your vegetarianism).

  234. It reminds me of old, weathered brick on a homey cottage, and the heart of a home is the kitchen.

    Home
    Cottage
    Kitchen Table

  235. Remember your vacation in Maine where your boys and hubby gathered shells for you? Sweet! And so to make the paint color personal, I suggest you name it Sweet Coral!

The color may be out of your comfort zone but still it will make you smile — just like those who are in love with coral 🙂

  236. Looks like old tricycle or faded radio flyer. Since I do daycare both items are in our yard. One more, tomato soup, when it’s made with milk.

  237. I would name it “Regatta Flag” as it evokes those lazy days of summer spent at the lake many years ago. That northeastern Pennsylvania summer sun faded everything to warm rich colors that are very hard to reproduce but you have done so with the new paint color. Thanks for the wonderful reminder of a childhood well-spent.

  238. I would say “Conch shell” – I have one and the inside is this very color! Now I know what color I’m going to paint my girlie desk!!

  239. This is a great color and it reminds me of the some of the old red barns that have changed color over time. I know it is not a true red…so how about “Old Barn Coral” ?

  240. …it makes me think of the beach.
    Beach Coral
    Sea Washed Red
    Sunset Rose
    Sand Pail Crab
    Crabby
You may have already hit on a name with…Wheelhouse Coral

This was fun!!! Hope I win! Thanks for the chance to provide input.

  241. It reminds me of my favorite cameo ring that has the most gorgeous coral background. It also reminds me of starfish but I vote for

    Cameo
    Starfish
    Blush
    Of even

    Spice

  242. It reminds me of 3 names:

    1.”Seaside Coral”

    2.” Shrimp Cocktail” ….or just…. “Shrimp”

    3. Lobster Fest …….or just ….. ” Lobster”

I love the color and it makes me think of the beach!!!!

  243. RUSTY PIPE WATER: My first thoughts were it looks like the rusty water that flows from an old pipe or well. Or it can be just RUSTY WATER
FADED FLAME OR CAMPFIRE CORAL: Thinking of of the Flickering Flame at evening campfires, opps there’s another one! (Faded Flame Coral.)

LAVA FLOW: and here’s one closer to home, my home in Hawaii anyhow. If you haven’t been here, I know it has to be on your list!! YOU TUBE Lava flows and I’m sure you’ll agree.
If it is not in your current memory box or campfire stories, let it be…DREAM ON!!

  244. what about Fiesta? it looks like one of the colours of fiestaware, but it’s kind of spicy and fiesta-ish too.

  245. This is so fun….. Sunset coral The Coral, the beach and sunset beautiful image.

AbbeLynn Coral To remember the two amazing ladies you mentioned, Abbe and Jennylyn.

Front porch Coral A place to relax and enjoy the sunrise or sunset.

Thank you for the chance to name a new paint. I have always wonder how some of the names of paint are decided.

  246. It makes me think of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia or Ningaloo Reef which is situated around the North West Cape, so I suggest one of the following:

    Coral Reef
    Great Barrier Coral
    Ningaloo Coral

Just an FYI on Coral Reefs:
Coral reefs that border land act as a buffer for the harsh waves. The reefs cause the waves to slow down or stop them completely. This prevents erosion of the shoreline and potential property damage. Reefs not only protect the shoreline but also ports and harbors. The NOAA estimates that half a billion people are estimated to live within 100 kilometers of a coral reef and benefit from its production and protection.

With the low VOC in Milk Paint don’t you think that it is appropriate to name this gorgeous colour after something that actually does the same thing… protect the environment?

    Carole
    Toronto Shabby Chic

  247. How about Flower Pot? There are so many entries, someone may have already suggested it, but I have to throw my hat into the ring!

  248. I love the simplicity of “Persimmon” or “Pomegranate.” Brings to mind something sweet and tart!

Or what about “Cheeky”? My first thought was that this color looked like a rosy blush or the tone a flushed cheek takes on after a sunny day working out in the garden. Plus, it’s a fun color and a little on the wild side for you 🙂

  249. You could name it “LIPSTICK”. Just put a little “lipstick” on that project and it will look great!

    Coral Autumn Haze
    Hazey Coral
    Coral Dreams
    Colonial Coral
    Coral and Company
    Coral’s Kiss
    Kiss of Coral

  251. This instantly reminded me of the lovely Italian terra cotta you see all over Tuscany (where I studied abroad) and Southern France. I think you should call it something along that line: “Italian Terra Cotta,” or “Antique Terra Cotta…”

This color would be a great a foil/compliment to your Artissimo!

  252. Love your blog! I get so much inspiration!
    Paint color names:

    Terry Cloth

    Picnic Table

    Barn Door
    Thanks

  253. The color reminds me of spring. The first flowers to bloom in yard every spring are the Flowering Quince. They are such a beautiful and welcoming site after the cold barren winter. So Flowering Quince would be fitting,

    or

Cameo Coral. Looks like the background of an antique cameo. Whatever you choose, i love the color!!! I believe it would look great with the blues, greens and grays in your home.

  254. I loved the suggestion from Sarah, “Abbe’s Rouge”, or perhaps Abbe’s Blush, Warm Watermelon, Vintage Coral, Peached Abbe.
Oops I just reread article so perhaps insert Abbe-Lyn instead of Abbe due to their collaboration together on this colour.

  255. The new paint is the exact color of the Abraham Darby rose from David Austin. What about something like “Briar Rose” or “Roses in June”?

  256. My immediate thought was “Barn Door”,
but I think “Sunset” or “Sunrise” would also be excellent

  257. Absolutely love this color, now trying to figure out what I could paint this color in my home. As I type this I’m looking at some of my hydrangeas that have dried on the bush………. What about Dried Antique Hydrangea…………….Antique Gas Can………Weathered Barn Door……….Old Rooster Comb……..no matter what name you choose, I love it! Still working on my little table with your French Enamel and getting ready to start with the Ironstone, I love it so far, but this is definitely a learning process for me!

  258. This is not a color I use in decorating but as I was reading this, I looked down and was wearing the exact shade of coral shorts!

    Here are some ideas:

    Sand Hill Plum
    Santa Rosa Beach
    Santa Rosa
    Old Florida
    Seaside
    Coral Cove
    Beach Plum

I could go on, what fun to brainstorm! Good luck choosing a name! I love all your color names so I am sure you will pick the perfect one.
    Anne

  259. This reminds me of the rooftops in my view out my window when I was serving a mission in Lille, France. And since I didn’t get to name my little girl “Lille” like I wanted to, I vote for

    Lille

    or

    French Rooftop

I have some snapshots from my mission to show you what I mean when….I mean “if” you pick my name.

  260. What about “All Dolled Up” as you have watermarked? It makes me think of the color of lipstick, and getting all dolled up 🙂

  261. “VINTAGE BRICK”
This paint color reminds me of the era when we weren’t spoiled with modern conveniences. Men and women worked sun up till sun down to provide the necessities of life for their families. I think of the old brick homes that the men spent hours mixing clay, moulding the clay, then drying and burning the moulds to make sturdy bricks. I think of the women then turning their sturdy brick house onto a home with fresh flowers, hot meals, and putting out their best table linens for company. This is why “VINTAGE BRICK” would make a great name for the line to pay tribute to the hard working hands of this era.

  262. when I ‘googled’ coral, one of the first things that cropped up was website…. “Touch of Luxe” and a picture of Eva Longoria in a beautiful coral dress.
Also reminds me of gala apples…but truth be told, it is coral.

  263. Coral Beach

    Antique Coral

    Vintage Coral

    Coralladie

    Coral vintage

    Coral Dream

    Coral Creek

    Coral Springs

    Thks!

  264. “Stroller”
My little sister had an old metal doll stroller she toted our pregnant cat in to see the vet that lived down our street when she was about 8. Where there was still paint, the stroller was this color, along with a cracked plastic seat with a tiny 40’s graphic print. The cat loved it!
This color name might also associate with warm strolls through the yard sales and salvage shops we all enjoy so much!
    My vote is “Stroller” !

  265. Duck Sauce (sorry, I love Duck Sauce & it definitely is the same color as my fave brand)

    California Poppy

Prickly Pear (the fruit, not the cacti itself)

  266. I’m thinking cosmetics and wine …. A delicious combo!
    1. Perfect blush
    2. Blush kissed
    3. Zinfandel’s blush
    4. Sunset
    5. Blush night
    6. Garden sunset

    Hope this helps… Kathryn

  267. It’s a beautiful color. Since you have wonderful memories of Germany….how about Aged Korallen (using the German word for coral.)

  268. The lovely color reminds of Tuscany with white white washed villas with that color shutters with pots of colorful flowers. i would call it Coralline shutters or Coralline earth.

  269. Flamingo Dance

    Warm Rhubarb

    Warm Rhubarb Cobbler

    tomato bisque
    old world tile
    miss m’s coral charm
    coral zinnia
    coral blush

    LOVE this color!!

  271. How about “French Ticking”? The color reminds me of well-loved and faded red ticking striped fabric. It’s a classic fabric that I think fits right into your design aesthetic and would play nicely with your other paint color names 🙂

  272. Gosh this is a gorgeous color!
    How about …
    Birdhouse
    Winter Berries
    Rosehip
    Rain Barrel
    October Leaves
    Cape Cod Sunset
    Front Porch

  273. Coral Brooch because you thoughtfully name your colors for objects we all are familiar with and whose color we recognize. This is the color of a lovely vintage pin set with polished coral from the sea.

  274. The color is absolutely…..Crab Feast! Sitting around a table with Kraft paper, Old Bay, and sand between your toes, contemplating…the first bite. You maybe be thinking Salted Salmon or Rusty Fence Post, but, Crab Feast conjures a visual that mistakes it for no other color.

  275. One more.
Today we wear “blush” My grandmother used to put on “rouge” which she had in a little (milk glass?) pot and it was just this color so…. Rouge!

  276. How about Tractor? kind of reminds me of the color of the old Alice Chalmer tractor that Grandpa Bias had on his farm. Ask your Dad, he’ll remember.

  277. One of the colors used to describe vintage coral beads is “angel skin coral” – that is one idea…

    The other is “terracotta.”

    Thanks!

    Dorene Essex Stander

  278. Like you I have a lot of blue. I’ve never hard anything coral.
It’s really a pretty color. Reminds me of –
    butternut squash-
    antique bricks- and
I have a beautiful zinnia take same color.
Maybe one on these names would work!

  279. I do like Rouge as Michele said. For myself, it immediatly made me think of the blooms on our quince bush, so I’m throwing Quince in the hat. Color is so personal, isn’t it?

  280. I was thinking that coral reminded me of the ocean (as in coral at the bottom) and that it’s like the color of a nautilus shell…

So my suggestion would be Nautilus Red

  281. Old Mill … reminds me of the old textile mills allover New England and points south , or Clay Pots … lined up on Canadian windowsills and stoops

  282. why not VINTAGE CORAL? You love the VINTAGE colors and this is in the VINTAGE line of all the colors you love. I do like this shade and can think of many names but a simple name will be best. Distressed Coral, Simply Coral, Old Coral, French Coral, Coral Sweater,Poppy Coral,Shades of Coral,Summer Coral, but my fave is MILK SHADE CORAL! Being that you carry the Milk Shades, just name it that! Who would forget that name, MILK SHADE CORAL, after all, people are buying the Milk Paint, aren’t they?:)

  283. Indian Paintbrush. It reminds me of the fading blooms in Texas as spring rolls into a long, hot summer!

  284. I love coral!

    Reef
    Redbreast (like Robin’s redbreast)
    Georgia clay

  286. Reminds me of pie, and sunsets!

    Rhubarb Pie

    Siesta Sunset

It is a lovely, happy color!

  287. My initial reaction was, “That looks just like a Coral Sunset.” Beautiful color!

  288. I know it’s not a true pink, but the first thing that came to mind was “flamingo”!!

  289. Ohhhhh, that color is so pretty! I have a couple ideas:
    Toile de Jouy
    Faded Brick
    Opa’s Rug
Cameo (some of my favorite pieces of jewelry are cameos with the pretty coral background)
Tool Box (like a beautiful old red tool box)
Or you could just be direct and use the French translations of red (rouge) or coral (corail)

  290. It looks to be the color of flowers on the hesperaloe parviflora from the desert Southwest; hence, I propose Hesperaloe.

  291. Weathered Zinnia. My favorite summer flower! Which by the way look great in blue mason jars

  292. Roasted Red Pepper

The color reminds me of the vegetarian recipes you sometimes post. Particularly the grilled veggies

  293. It just struck me, isn’t this the color of the pears on your place setting of your banner photo?

  294. how about Country Evening Sunset or Country Sunset or Sunset Skies…. it reminds me of the color at sunset while sitting on the front porch with my sweet tea, of course!

  296. Caribbean Coral. Reminds me of the coral I have seen while snorkeling in the Caribbean.

  297. I like just plain ole’ “Coral”… but what about “Shell” (as in seashell… coral…)

  298. Thought of a few more … Azalea, Aged Azalea, Azalea Bloom. Thank you for this awesome opportunity!

  299. I’m feeling ruffles, like ruffled pillow shams. Ruffles are girly and so is pink! This is a beautiful shade, by the way!

So, I’m not good at naming things, but “Ruffled Pink” is my suggestion.

  300. Adobe.

Adobe bricks are made from loamy clay, and clay is often a soft orangy red. Adobe is one of the “greenest” traditional building materials of the southwest…perfect for the name of a natural and “green” type of paint.

  301. It reminds me of the colors of the Grand Canyon as the sun sets…so I say canyon sky!

  302. I just had another thought, how about “Starfish”? Not the white ones you use, but they sometimes have that orange/peach/pink color to them and I know you love your starfish 🙂

  303. It’s a beautiful color! It made me think of the roses on those black, vintage, tole-painted trays. So my suggestion is Tole Rose.

  304. Call it: Miss Bessie’s Lipstick
Makes me think of one of the great, adored, very old ladies in the church, with beautiful porcelain skin, wonderful blue-gray hair, (fixed weekly at the beauty shop!) pearls adorning her softly aging neckline, a smile that lights up everyone she greets, and such lovely coral lips!!
(I love the color, by the way!!)

  305. I have a few.

Adams Clove or Teaberry – The moment I saw this color it reminded me of 2 old time chewing gum wrappers After a quick internet search Clove gum (clove flavored gum) was made by the Thomas Adams Company. I was thinking Adams Clove for Adams County, PA and the creator of the gum. If that is too specific for trademark reasons then I also like Teaberry (which is a plant with edible berries sometimes used to make tea)

Pennsylvania Clay (as in soil but also since you are from PA and there is a town called Clay in PA )

  306. Hum…as I speak French and because this color remind me of peonia, I would suggest : pivoine.

  307. What a beautiful color!
And like you there is nothing that I own that is this color but after seeing this table I’m wondering why!!
There are so many great suggestions I think I’ll throw a few in the ring myself….

Copper Pot (like the ones in your kitchen!)
    Low Country Coral
    Southern Comfort Coral
    Weather Vane
    Wagon Wheel
    Whiskey Barrel

Can’t wait to see what you choose!!!

  308. My top three name choices
    #1. Smitten for needlepoint
    #2. Dollhouse Dreams
    #3. Morning Sunrise

  309. Coral reef
When I was a kid their was a paint colour for Chevy car. Maybe 57s and I think it was called bittersweet and that was coral

    UTTER SURPRISE
    UTTERLY CORRAL
    UTTERLY DELICIOUS

  311. The color reminded me of sunsets – the purples and the pinks that are so breathtaking. So “Sunset Coral”

  312. LOVE this color!!! It is reminicent of the color of Grandmother’s “company apron” which she hung proudly on the end of her Hoosier cabinet ( which had knobs/handles this color)!! Funny!

    1. Apron strings
    2. Company’s coming
    3. Hoosier cabinent

  313. Reef
    Sunset
    Baby’s blush
I think this will be a very popular color, no matter what you call it!

  314. Just left a comment about a color, and looked at my flower pots outside…it’s the color of my salmon geranium….”geranium”

  315. My first thought was “Oklahoma Sunset ” but you aren’t from OKlahoma so that probably wouldn’t work. (But we have incredible coral sunsets-looking at one now.).
    My husband said, “grandma’s apron.”
We also like Coral-Belle, Necterine. Or Peach Soda cause it looks like Peach Nehi!
And if you need a story, I can give you one on each of these.

    Poppy
    Roe
    Melon
Coronation (it’s a depression glass pattern)
    Windsor Pink Depression Glass
    Dogwood

  317. I would call it smoked salmon. it has to somewhat reflect the color, doesn’t it? otherwise you could just name your colors after your kiddos….

  318. Adding to our previous comment – peach fizz because we are still thinking about that Nehi. Do they even make that flavor any more?

  319. This gorgeous color evokes memories of lazy days diving the reefs while consuming the dazzling colors on display. So for me the color can only be REEF BLUSH.
    heather 🙂

  320. Opa’s Blush… in honor and memory of your Grandmother. I have enjoyed hearing stories about her home and the memories attached to pieces she owned. What a blessing to have had her in your life!

  321. petticoat….
I also love the name coral belle suggested above because it would be a perfect name for a cow and reminds me of you collection of paintings.

  322. Now, I love this color and want to get some right away…but isn’t this about the same color as your sewing machine? lol!

So, how bout “Sewing Machine”? 🙂

  323. This color reminds me of something rusted.

    *Rusted Roof

    *Rusty Barn

    *Farmhouse Rust

    *Rain Gutter Rust

It is such a rich beautiful color. Can’t wait to use it!

  324. Caught my type-o just as soon as I hit enter!

    Oma’s blush is what I meant to say… 🙂

  325. Okay, I promise this will be my last recommendation! One translation of YOUR name is “From the Sea”, which is where coral comes from! Or you could just call it “Marian” or even the medeival “Maid Marian”! I will try my best to make these three names my last recommendations but this is just so much fun!!

  326. The new color is beautiful, it reminds me a of a shade you might see in a breath-taking sunrise or sunset so my first two ideas are along those mines: Coral Sunrise or Coral Sunset
Or how about Coral Blush or Cora Belle?

  327. Read this post while coming down rt 30 near the battlefield…. Late August Sunset…I swear the sun was the same warm glowing shade.

  328. Betsy, I was JUST thinking of bricks! It does have that baked-clay look of brick, like my Grandmother Mildred’s patio in St. Louis. It also reminds me of the faded colors in farm landscapes.

    So my suggestions are
    Pink Patio
    Old Barn
    Farm Tractor

This was fun! Let’s play again! 🙂

  329. I love the color and your paints and your website and tutorials and……:)

  335. Biblical names-
    Ramoth- hebrew for coral
    Virtuous
    Virtuous woman

She is worth more than coral….

  336. Coraline with a long i. It’s a pretty old fashioned vintagey name. I can just imagine a woman named Coraline in the 1800’s walking on those beautiful rolling Gettysburg hills.

  337. First Crush – since this is the color of blushing cheeks when youth and a crush collide! Or just Crush……

  338. LOVE the color! Considering your current names, and that they reflect things about your life and what you work with, it was tough!

  340. At our house, this is the shade we call “Pink Blankie” pink, after my 13-year-old daughter’s well-loved, crocheted baby blanket.

Miss Mustard See might want to try:

    Coxcomb
    or
    Vintage Tractor
    or
    Pinto Bean

  341. Granted I’m looking at this color on a computer screen, but it sure does look like the background color on Opa’s rug to me! I opened both pictures side by side on my ipad and they look so close. How about “Opa’s Rug”? Or something commemorating your grandparents? Maybe even just “Opa’s House”? Maybe you would be surprised by the peeks of coral you do have in your home!

  342. I would call it coral gables : ) it remainds me of Miami so tropical a lot people paint their homes down there is probably because is such a happy color : )

    A really beautiful color.

  344. maple leaf

    crab cake

    Rusted Sign

  345. I think “Sunset” would be a great name- it looks like the Texas sunset I saw tonight!!!

  346. This color is similar to your new sewing machine you wrote about in a post back in June so how about naming your new paint color “sewing machine”?

  347. I was thinking the same way as Anna. The color looks exactly like the colors in your Opa’s antique wool rug. So my name suggest is “OPA” or maybe something that uses Opa & plays off the rug…. Opa’s Teppich.

  354. It reminds me of two things. One is a gelatin dish my grandmother used to make, but I don’t think Jello Mold is a good name. But it also reminds me of some of her jewelry. We called her Mia, so my first submission is Mia’s Coral Ring. My second submission would be her real name –Dorothy.

    — Mia’s Coral Ring
    — Dorothy

  355. i like a paint name where it gives me an idea of the color…it is essential…how about southwest sunset or cantaloupe…even santa fe

  377. I love your new color. My name would be old copper pot or copper pot. I noticed that you have one hanging in your beautiful new kitchen. My other thought was Sweet Persimmon, from a childhood experience!

  378. Poppy. Poppy like the flower, and it’s your pop of color in the collection of grays and blues.

  379. Well i thought a few of the items from your Opa’s house looked like they had this color (rug, dish, paneling behind deer head) so I think….Opa’s House!

  380. Old Rooster

Lol….I think I like Dirty Pig the best of the above. Good luck choosing a name.

  391. Wow, I’m the 1,120th person to reply! Oh well, might as well give it a try!

    Inspired Red

Marian, I know that you’re describing the color as coral, but it looks red to me, so that’s why I’m calling the color “inspired.” Also, the name is a take-off on your book, “Inspired You.”

  392. OHHH. So many good ones to choose from…

It reminds me of faded barn siding so how about

    Faded Barn

Also looks like cows nose so…

    “Sunset glow”
    “Rooster”
    “Rural Red”
    “Coralberry”
    “Antoinette”
    “Faded Poppy”

  397. Sailor’s Delight!

I was thinking Opa’s House also because it’s similar to the color in the antique rug but I see someone else has already mentioned that. Good Luck.

  398. I would say needlepoint or opa’s rug because both of those heirlooms came from your grandparents home and both have those pretty corals.

  399. I know you say it is a coral color but on my screen it looks like that lovely red that only comes from old antique french red linens.

    French Red Linen

  400. The color reminds me of the sky as the sun is setting so I’d name it Sweet Hour after the the sweetest time of day to take photos which is just before the sun sets.

  401. “Weathered Tin”
The color reminds me of our old tin barn roof. The rusty, watercolored patina is just beautiful when the sun shines upon it in the late evening as the sun sets.

  402. Nana’s apron
    Worn wagon
    Heirloom quilt
    Water pump
    Weathered barn
    Grandad’s long johns
    Melonade
    Oklahoma dust
    Rhubarb stain

    This is Bliss
    Summertime Memories
    Pink solstice
    With Love

  406. autumn glow
    gypsy rose
    coral crush
    tomato bisque
    cameo
    sunset
and last but not least…. simply shrimp…o.k. least
    my husbands perspective!

  407. My Grandmother was such an inspiration to me … She was born and raised in Pennsylvania Dutch country … Her name was Ada … and this shade so reminds me of a Sunday afternoon drive … My Granddad always drove … showing me the cows and horses along the way … while I would catch a glimpse of my Grandmother … riding in the backseat … and how she would clutch her pocketbook and sometimes retrieve her lipstick … So with that precious memory fresh in my mind … of my sweet Grandma Ada from Lancaster, PA. … My final suggestion is “Ada’s Pocketbook”!

  408. Fabulous Coral !!! My husband and I both had visions of a crawfish , crab or lobster bake! With a girly attitude I suggest naming the color. ..She Crab Pink

  409. Copper Pot, named for your gorgeous copper ware hanging in your kitchen.

Or Canyon Clay, in memory of your vacation.

  410. It reminds me of a red color left out in the sun. So, perhaps Old Barn, Faded Wagon or Bleached Barn. Something like that. Such a happy, summery color!

  411. This color is reminiscent of that most wonderful vintage pottery called McCoy, so I would call it *Coral McCoy* or just “McCoy”

To see this pottery, if you’re not familiar with it, Google: McCoy+pink
Depending on lighting and where it’s used, this muted pink pottery can read as coral.

    http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTLPvixlmvABN8p_ym1mXv_tdFz4mVrgAgU2kBRwErqIFfUzLhvQA

The name McCoy and this paint color evoke the same style and mood, AND to be “coy” can sometimes evoke a blush to the cheeks of this same color…therefore, maybe *Coy McCoy* would be appropriate… 🙂

    Happy choosing!

  412. My first thought was School Eraser which I see others have already picked, but I am sticking with it, it’s perfect
    -French Rose
–Formica( it is the exact color of our Formica countertops when I was growing up)
    -Coral Bells
    -Lipstick

  413. It reminds me of an “old schoolhouse” that has been faded by the sun. I’m from a rural area and there was an old schoolhouse that was this exact color. My suggestion is “old schoolhouse”.

  414. Salamander
    Oh Cabana Boy!
    Hearth
    Santa Fe Sunset
    Back of the Barn
    Summer Cayanne
    Shades of Summer
    Mai Tai
    Tequila Sunrise

Oh, this is so much fun!

My husband suggests: baboon bottom (he actually said butt, but I have censored that down to bottom)

  415. The first thought that popped into my head was a silly one but I have to say it because it just makes me chuckle! The coloris delicious and very vintage tea cup looking but it reminded me of a “Granny ‘s Sofa” (not my Granny, but somebody’s Granny surely had a sofa that yummy coral color!) Ok, enough of the silliness! My real suggestion, that kinda goes with your theme is “Cottage Rose”. The color just makes you want to curl up with a book and a blanket all comfy cozy. Having a piece done in that color just makes you happy, doesn’t it?

  416. My first reaction when seeing it was “Persimmon”
or Rhubarb – it has such a rosy fruity color to it.

    Otherwise:
    Rosy Posy
    Sunset

It is a sweet color at any rate!

  417. It looks southwesty. How about Canyon? Aren’t you visiting the Grand Canyon? If you see the Grand Canyon around sunrise this is a predominant color.

  418. To play
On the coral-ness of the color – how about “be cordial” 🙂

Cute & funny I guess! Beautiful
    Color too!!!

    Happy Picking!

  419. I love this new color…here are some suggestion that pop to mind. In the range of coral colors it looks to be right in the middle…not being towards the pinks or reds if my eyes are not playing tricks on me.

    Early Sunrise
    Dawn Sunrise
    Coral Taffy
    Coral Bay
    Coral Beach
    Coral Reef
    Coral Shores
    Shades of Salmon
    Bittersweet

    This is fun!
    Pamela Barnabo
    pambar@charter.net

  420. Blush, it kind of reminds me of color of Cotton Candy when it sticks to your fingers or the color of a little child cold cheeks after being warmed by the fire , BLUSH

  421. Hmmm…I have been pondering this for the last hour.
    How about Pennsylvania Peach?
    ‘Cause that’s what you are!
    Or maybe Coral Comfort,
    Rusted Pail
    Fresh Peach
    Peach Tree
    Cottage Coral
    Cozy Coral
    Salmon Sunset
    Polished Poppy
    Faded Poppy
    Worn Poppy
    Paint Brush Poppy
    Primping Poppy
That’s good for now…can’t wait to see what you choose :o)
    Stacey of Embracing Change

  422. This color reminds me of the color of clouds at sunset. The name I would us in Sunset Clouds or Coral Cloud.

  423. To me this color is reminiscent of that old and wonderful “vintage pink” McCoy pottery. And to be “coy” can sometimes bring a blush to the cheeks of this same color…

So my choice is simply McCoy (or you could go with Coy McCoy to be clever, but I don’t think that’s necessary).

  424. Following your blog for almost a year now I have felt inspired to create, add to, change, or touch up any number of things in my family’s home to add a personal touch. Having never before commented on any blog and lacking in creativity to name things, I was a little nervous, however when I saw this post and the new lovely paint color I decided to add what came to mind…

    Oma’s Blush
    🙂

  425. Pink Lady
    D’anjou Pear
    Crabapple
    Pomegranate

Clearly, the color speaks of summery fruit. Well, in my opinion. =)

  426. That color reminds me of the wild persimmons that grow on our place. So, my vote is “Wild Persimmon”.

  427. Haha, that’s a lot of suggestions! Good luck with the picking!
The color struck me as fairly “Depression Glass” pink, but I think “Pink Depression” probably wouldn’t sell too well 😉
It reminds me of the old farmhouse kitchens I’ve been seeing on Houzz and Pinterest, the ones with blue cupboards and a faded red table? So I suggest:
    Farmhouse Table, or
    The Good China

    1. Sorry, I meant to explain, “The Good China” for those plates you took from Opa’s house! Or maybe “Oma’s Good China”?

  428. Prairie Sunrise (I like this one better)
    or
    Prairie Sunset

The colour is in the sky both times of day and since you’ve already used the word Sky in one of your names, this would still make the reference to the sky but not in a literal way, and lend itself to farmhouse living, country life, and a happy environment around you which is the feeling that this colour gives when you look at it 🙂

    So there’s my 2 cents! 🙂

  429. How about: Pinched Cheeks, Flushed, Fever, Granny’s Rouge, Heart, Sweetheart, Valentine, Faded Valentine, Cotton Candy, Mango, Fresh Mango, Harvest, Harvest Time?

  430. As a child I loved sitting around my Grandma’s big oak kitchen table with all the women in the family after one of her famous dinners Lunch was always called dinner and the evening meal was called supper We never failed to have; fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade noodles along with all the other delicious foods only she could make . .
On really hot Sunday afternoons she would bring out a chilled watermelon. As we sat around that same table, munching happily, we would pass around the salt shaker to sprinkle a little salt on each cold slice. Grandma would slyly flip a watermelon seed at someone with her arthritic fingers. I was always waiting for her to do it and she knew that and would wink at me.
This coral color brings back the memories of those precious times so I am suggesting
    “Iced Watermelon.”for the name.

  431. I read this post earlier today and noticed when in my garden this afternoon that the color resembled “Fall Sedum” and “Faded Hydrangea”…….Both beautiful vintage-y garden flowers.

    xo~Jill

  432. Hi Marian,
this is another cute challenge! Since I am Italian I suggest you some Italian names to change. If I remember well you told me you went to Italy and you loved there. Let’s see how they will sound to you!

    – Corallo antico > (Antique coral)

    – Rosa antico > (Pink Antique)

    – Acqua di rose > (Rose’s water)

    – Terracotta > ( Cley)

    – Tramonto rosa > (Pink Sunset)

Well those names are what I came out with hope that one of them sounds good to you!

    Good luck

    Carolina

  433. Here are my coral crush names…..possibly my favorite color!

    Sweet Rhubarb Pie
    Passionate Papaya
    Classic Coral
    Timeless Garden Rose
    Coral Blush
    Blessed Blush
    Coral Bells
    Calmly Coral
    Crushing on Coral
    Calm Me with Coral
    Classy in Coral
    Peachy’s Cousin
    Raspberry Lemonade
    Blissful Blush
    You Make Me Blush

Thank you for this opportunity! Many blessings to you! 🙂

  434. The first thing that popped into my head when I saw this color was “Sunset”. We have beautiful sunsets here in the TX Hill Country where I live and many are exactly this color.

  435. This is a beautiful color. Reminds me of three things:
The color sometimes seen in camp fires, I would call it PINK EMBERS.
The color I see in a stone crab, I’d call it STONE CRAB CLAW
The color of an actual piece of coral, called BIRD’S NEST CORAL

  436. Aged Barn Wood ….. because when I first saw it I thought it was a very aged red. It matches some of the old wood I have from a salvaged barn and it keeps with the theme of your names.

  437. Sun Baked Clay
    Roof Tile
    Garmisch Station
    Barnside or Barn Board
    Faded Brick
    Tomato Bisque
    Heirloom Salmon
    Robin Red Breast
    Meloncoly
    Carnation

  438. Ohhh – SO prettyful! After much thought… 😉

    1. Baked Salmon
    2. Sunset
    3. Blush
    4. Weathered Blush
    5. Vintage Flush
    6. Bittersweet Crayon {it looks just like the Crayola color “bittersweet” – link here http://www.crayola.com/explore-colors/bittersweet.aspx}

Such great ideas here from everyone!!! I’m having way too much fun looking through them all now! 🙂

  439. Here are some ideas…hope this is my third try, hope it goes through this time. Since coral is the range between pink and orange there are so many possibilities:

    Fields of Poppies
    Summer Blush
    Coral Reef
    Coral Bay
Coral Sand Dunes (like in Africa)
Orange Dream or Orange Dreamsicle or just Dreamsicle
    Bittersweet
    Coral Velvet
    Coral Radiance
    Perfect Sunset
    Pueblo Sand

This is fun! Lots of great names posted!

  440. I think you should name the new color in honor of your Opa:

    Opa’s House
    Opa’s
    Opa Love
    Opa
    Opa’s Song
    Opa’s Rug
    Opa’s Laugh

    Good luck with your choice!
    ~Izzy

  441. Dear Marian,

I wanted to come up with something that was as “you” as you can be! Well, at least, the you that we have all come to be so fond of through your blog. I thought of the many amazing “classes,” the wonderful objects seen throughout your shoots, and, of course, your passion for color!

Here’s my contribution. The first ones are from vintage fruit crate labels that had coral in their design:

    Palmetto Queen
    Blushing Melons
    Indian River
    La Vie En Rose

The next one is a sweetheart rose that is coral in color:

    Watermelon Sugar
(I love the sound of this a lot and it’s so evocative of that color. I could see these roses in your new bathroom where you had the white ones. You could even change the whole feel of your bathroom, depending on your mood, with different color roses!)

    The last are objects:

Beach Bucket (I imagine a vintage child’s bucket filled with bleached shells)
Fly Swatter Coral (I actually had one of these in that exact color!)

And, this last one because I was so touched by your blog about your grandparent’s house:

    Oma’s Gingham
(I can see your Oma in her gingham apron, one that had been washed many times over the years, one that hung on an iron hook in the kitchen. I can see a little Marian proudly wearing it while she helped her Oma bake biscuits–the hem touching the floor and a big safety pin holding the extra fabric at the nape of her neck.)

This was really fun!. Thanks a million for giving us a chance to contribute to your fantastic style, and for inviting us into your home week after week!

    Your enthusiastic student,
    Alexis

  442. I am absolutely in love with coral and have way too much in my wardrobe. Would love to paint something in this pain color.

I would have to name this lucious creation:

    Miss Cora Elle

    -marj

  443. Associate with Merry-Go-Round/ Carousel/ Karusel – soft, warm, fun, feminine, light… 🙂

  444. I went through many pages looking for ANY bit if pink-y color from you. I found some peaches, a red door and some graphics in your book video.

In the video you were talking about “moving mountains” as this pinky sunset color moved by. Moving Mountains. Mountain Sunset. Mountain Sunrise – however Red in the morning means sailors take warning. Not really sure I could recommend that!

The door is really too RED to call the paint after it.

The first thing I “saw” when I saw your pink/coral table was old flour sack prints. I know there is already Grain Sack. But grain sacks are so very different from 1920’s to 1930’s floral.
Vintage Flour Sack. Vintage Floral. Flour Flower. Flour Power. Hollyhock. Geranium. Peony. Gingham. Swingset Hue. (somehow it could be faded red swingset) Waitin’ For The Cat To Die. (James Whitcomb Riley has a poem about swing rides 😀 Possibly not the best to anyone who doesn’t know about the poem )

Then I started thinking about what might be in my Grandma’s house that would be similar color. Carnival Glass. Candy Dish. Afghan Rose. Quilted. Poppy.

My personal Fave from this list is Hollyhock.
Maybe there is something from your Oma’s house you could name it after.
    Maybe Oma’s Rouge.

  445. Indian Summer
    Sunrise blush

It makes me think of early morning sky’s when everyone else is asleep.

  446. Afghan Rosette
My Nana Ann (great grandmother) made me an afghan years before she passed away. The afghan is while, with lovely flowers worked into the pattern, quite near the color of your new paint. It is what came to mind right away. I love the color and am excited to see the name your choose, and then order some! I do like the idea of using your Opa’s title or name as well, but would have to know if she would like that.
A few other’s came to mind:
    Nana’s afghan
    Opa’s Blush
    Opa’s Rouge
Thanks for letting us join in the excitement!

    1. What about Oma’s Love or Oma’s Gift. It seems to be the exact color of some of the detail on the Turkish Rug you received from your Oma and Opa’s house. (A similar color is also in the quirky toothpick holder, which I love). If and when you decide to use it on a piece, it would blend perfectly with the rug and remind you of those you hold dear. 🙂

  447. Just Born.. reminds me of the pink/coral color of when my baby was born

Granny’s Lipstick…reminds me of my Granny Mary’s “vintage” lipstick

Fiesta Pink or Fiesta Coral…reminds me of vintage Fiesta dishes

Granny’s Apron ….reminds me of a vintage pink color in my Granny Mary’s apron

Farmhouse Sunrise… the color you would see at dawn looking at your farmhouse window

Jelly Cupboard…the old painted cupboard that you find in an old farmhouse

Apple Butter…reminds me of fresh made apple butter in a clear mason jar

Cinnamon Toast ….the color of cinnamon and butter mixed on hot toast

Thanks for the chance to win and to be creative! I love it!

    Dinah

    1. Should read: correction from previous post.

Farmhouse Sunrise…the color you would see at dawn looking OUT of your farmhouse window

      Thanks!

      Having fun with this!!!

  448. It reminds me of the beautiful antique wool rug that was your Opa’s that you have always wanted. I think you should name it after the rug and your Opa in honor of his memory! So my suggestions are:

    Antiqued Rug
    Antiqued Wool
    Woolen Legacy

  449. I’m a sweet southern girl from Georgia and the color reminds me of our dirt roads in the country. Some of my suggestions are:

    Georgia Dirt Road
    Georgia Clay

  450. I was just thinking of the Canyons and the color of the rocks and hills at sunset. My new daughter-in-law is a Native American Indian and their culture is so rich with appreciation of nature. I imagined an Indian tribe doing a Sundance with an orange glow basking the hills and sky….so I will add:

    Sundance
    Coral Sundance

I also think of the beach:

    Seashell
    Coral Sunset
    Kiss of Coral

Good luck choosing a name! I love this new color and must paint something with it…can’t wait! 🙂

  451. Reminds me of the colors of sunset on a beautiful day here in the Ozarks…
    So, Sunset

  452. I love it.
How about burnt autumn or sunset coral.
When will it be available? I have the perfect piece.

Also do you have photos of the other two new ones you mention?

  453. I would love to win something from you!

    Here’s my ideas for a name…

    Trophy ribbon
    French velvet
    Pin cushion
    Travel clock
    Opas rug

I think they fit your fancy!!!

    Oxoxo
    Kyra

  454. Hello!!!!
I’ve been thinking about all day!!! I went to a friends house who has chickens and came up with this:……..Wattle Red

Good luck…it looks as though you have many to pick from!!!!

  455. Rouge. It reminds me of my Grandma’s cheeks……back in the day they didn’t call makeup for your cheeks “blusher”, it was called “rouge”!

  456. Oh!!! 2 more!!!!

    1. Impatient Pink……..like the flower

    2. Miss Coral Rose

    Have fun picking!!!!

  457. I like the sound of “Cora Bella” or “Cora Bella Coral”…….I think that would look great listed with your other colors names!!!!! BTW….I love the new color!!!!!!

  458. I like the sound of “Cora Bella” or “Cora Bella Coral”…….I think that would look great listed with your other colors names!!!!! BTW….I love the new color!!!!!!

Just thought of another…… You could name it “Coral Bells” and then make a new paint color(maybe a creamy color) and call it “Cockle Shells”….and use the 2 paints together….”Coral Bells and Cockle Shells”!!!!!!!!! Naming paint is fun!!!!!!!

  459. I absolutely love it!

    Spice (Or)
    Cinnamon Twist

Have fun…..this is going to be tough!

  460. The color reminds me of embroidery thread, so I like the name, “Sew Coral”. Love it!

  461. When I was little my mom traveled a lot for work and would always bring me back fun presents. On one of her trips, she flew out to Arizona. When she returned, she gave me a jar of Arizona dirt. It is the exact same color as this paint. There is an area in Arizona called “Painted Desert”. I think that is the perfect name for this paint. Also, I still have that jar of dirt that mom brought me as a gift when I was little. 🙂

  462. I love all the names and can feel the sensations from this new glam colour, but the hue also reminds me of the “cream” you get when you put your fork into a strawberry Rhubarb Pie. So, I’ll give you “Rhuby Cream”. Thanks for the chance to share with you.
    Wendy
    Alberta, Canada

  463. I think of a faded embroidery from my grandmother “Embroidery Rose”,”Faded rose”, or “Vintage Rose” or just “Embroidery”. She also had on old dressing gown that smelt like her powder which was a similar colour so what about “Dressing gown”. Thankyou for the opportunity to win a great prize.

  464. Australorp egg – the color reminds me of those beautiful pink eggs Australorp chickens lay.
Terrcota – like an old flower pot
Begonia – those sweet little summer flowers
    Copper pot

    Thanks!
    Elle

  465. Here are some more……

Blushing Blogger……….cuz you couldn’t think of the name yourself…my fave!!!!

    Coral Reef

    Coral Bells

    Blush Rush

    Good Luck!!!!

  466. I think it looks like a deep blush. You could use:

    Blush
    Oma’s Blush

    Thanks for the opportunity!
    Wendy

  467. I am so excited about this! My bridesmaids wore coral. I have coral bedding. LOVE that color.

The first thing that popped into my mind was Rockford Peach. Peach came first, but then I thought about the girls that inspired the movie A League of Their Own. What a reflection of that female go-getter spunk that women who paint have in common with the baseball players.

Just think of the impulse when people see the name. They’ll click ‘Add to Cart’ as soon as they say, “There’s no crying in baseball!”

  468. “Simply Coraly”. Kitsch. Zefir. Lava Soap. Bakelite. Smth Formica. Coffee grinder?

  469. How about using “Sedona” or “Grand Canyon” in the name somehow? Perhaps it will remind you of the beautiful colors from your vacation.

  470. summers blush, But I am Loving this name Ingenue definition is. A naive, innocent girl or young woman. 2. a. The role of an ingénue in a dramatic production. . Which of course any piece painted in milk paint is a dramatic production when I placed it in my home yet some colors touch the sole and this one does with innocence and freshness.

  471. Hi Marion,

    Vintage Melon Orange?

    Peggy

  474. How about “Pie Safe”. This would kind of go along with some of your home object names. It looks like the faded finish on an old pie safe.

  475. The first colour name to jump out at me is ‘ Tuscany’ and I see someone also saw this region in her mind, so that is my suggestion or ‘Tuscan Tile’ as in roof tiles. This is a wonderful colour and I’m sure it will be very popular. Love it ! Mary

  476. My second suggestion is ‘ Tijuana’ as this coral colour is very popular in Mexico and it shows the fiery Mexican sunset laced with a coolness of the evening . Mary

  477. My last 2 suggestions are ‘ Creamy Tomato’ or Sweet Potato as it has that very distinctive tone you can only get from either of these homemade creamy soups. Mary

  478. It’s a beautiful color and I can’t wait to try it! That being said….it really reminds me of vintage pottery from the 50’s. The color would be called pink, but because of the way the dyes were made it would always look more coral to me. So……Vintage Pottery would be my suggestion. Best of luck naming your new color!

  479. This color reminds me of an old allis chalmers tractor that is still being used somewhere on a farm.

So I would name ithis color….Antique Tractor

  480. Hi Marion! It color reminds me of the Winslow Homer painting “Snap the Whip” I can see your style/design inside the old school house! and since you have little ones… my vote would be School House Red!

  481. Hello, When I saw the new coral color I immediately thought of the beautiful colors in the antique wool rug you are receiving from your Opa. So I would name the color Opa’s antique rug or Opa’s antique tapestry. Or even after your Oma – Oma’s blush.

  484. “Red sky at Night”
As a child when I would spend part of the summer at Grandma’s lil’ farm, on some evenings sitting on the porch at sunset the sky would turn a beautiful coral colour. On those special nights my Gran always quoted this:
Red sky at night; shepherds delight,
Red sky in the morning; shepherds warning

  485. Fiesta or Fiestaware, because the coral color looks like one of the vintage colors of Fiesta dishes.

Or Dahlia, because the old-fashioned dahlia flowers are shades of coral.

  486. “Reveille” – to me this shade reflects a vibrant sunrise that gives a wake-up pop of color feel.

Thanks for letting us put in our input for this – it’s been fun!

    -Karen

  487. I am looking a the sunrise over the lake this morning and the exact hue of your paint is in it so “Sunrise” or “Tequila Sunrise”.

I needed this exact color a couple of years ago (before yours paints were even out) and chalk paint was the rage with few color choices. Made my own version of chalk paint but just not the same.

Love many of the names others have suggested!

  488. As soon as I saw it I thought of an old toy fire truck, a bit tired, a little faded and worn, but very much loved. I can just picture the old metal painted red and white, chipping in places, so I’d call it Fire Truck.

  489. The color reminds me of fall harvest treats peach jam, pumpkin cookies, peach cobbler peach tea …

For some reason, the color also reminded me of your Opa’s run that you love. Although the general market may not know Opa’s rug, those of us in your blog world look forward to seeing the Opa warm hues partnered with your cool blues.

I too, love the creative names of my fellow readers! Tomato soup is a great color picture.

  490. How about………..”Tuscany breeze” or ………” Alhambra sky”

For sure you will pick a very nice name.

  491. I like Bittersweet or Sanguine-meaning happy, optimistic

It is a beautiful accent for the blues and greens in your home 😎

  492. How about “Oma’s Sunset”

Love your blog and all things Miss Mustard Seed!!! Thank you for your inspiration!

  493. Wow! So many wonderful names! Forgive me if this has already been posted, I tried to make sure it wasn’t a repeat. This reminds me of silk that might have been carried out of the Orient on the old silk road.

    Sari
    Spice Route
    Silk Road

  494. I would name it Red Sky at night, Sailors Delight. Sailors Delight would be a great name, or Red Sky

  495. Beautiful color….one that I’d pair with soft gold and blue-gray in my home.
I had 2 immediate thoughts: Rake or Barn.
Simple yet lovely names that will play nicely with the other fun “mustard” names.

  496. Since the other once have one name I would try to think of one name but it screams two:

Like watermelon lemonade or pink grapefruit

    Lorna

  497. Oma’s Sunset…..pick that one…..it’s so YOU. April C just nailed it in my opinion….

  498. To remind you of all the wonderful colors in Garmisch and your German roots, I think the name “Gasthaus” is pretty fitting. Anyone who has been to Germany or seen pictures will know that this color of coral is widely used here!

  499. What great names so far. Here are my suggestions.

    Prairie Peach

    Desert Blush

    Good luck everyone!

  500. Incorporating your German heritage (and mine as well, born and raised), I would go with ABEND ROT. It reminds me of that special red/orange when the sun sets so beautifully.

  501. The color is bright and happy and makes me think of flowers in an English garden…I like the name Peony Bouquet or Tea Time Coral!!!
Good luck and I can’t wait to try the new colors!
    ~Kate

  502. What about “Bittersweet.” I noticed that you use it occasionally for arrangements and there is no better way to add a little color in fall than this wonderful wild-growing vine – and it will last all through the winter when dried. You are right, though. You don’t have any coral in your house! I went back through a lot of your pictures and the only thing I could find that is similar is your “favorite finds” tag.

  503. Reminds me of my grandmommie’s cheeks on sunday so my suggestion is “Grandmommie’s Rouges”. But maybe “Oma’s Rouge” for your grandmother.

  504. I live out in the Rocky Mountain region, and as you’re finding out, Colorado is a sunny, happy, healthy kind of place. The color reminds me of the Garden of the Gods rock formations near Colorado Springs.

The Moab area of Utah, as well as the Grand Canyon, also have the same earthy colors.

So, I’d like to suggest Mountain Sunshine or Western Sunshine.

  505. Panama (its the name of a vintage pottery company- the color has a terra cotta feel)
OR card catalogue… just because I love card catalogues!!!

  506. Faded Wagon – because it looks like my kids old faded, rusty wagon that I just can’t get rid of.

Or Oma’s Apron – don’t all grandmother’s have an apron this color, both of mine did?

  507. Cadillac mountain. It is the color of the beautiful stones on that mountain in Acadia National park, on the coast of Maine. Great complimentary color to blues and greys and greens of the sea and sky.

  508. Many wonderful names suggested already, but what about “Vintage Coral”? “Coral Cameo” was one of my favorites, maybe a combination: “Vintage Coral Cameo”!

  509. Bavarian Sunset

To remind you of the evenings spent in Garmisch watching the sun fade away over the Alps.

  510. Thought of another name when I woke up this morning: Weathered Wagon (because who didn’t have a Radio Flyer wagon as a kid?)

  511. This color immediately reminded me of the rug your mom “claimed” for you from your Opa’s house. Maybe…

OPA’S HEIRLOOMS – since a few of the things you brought from Opa’s house have a variation of this color….the rug, the needlepoint seat covers, the oval plates and the toothpick holder.

OPA’S INSPIRATION – he can help you and all of us CREATE something beautiful with this color as he did with his custom building. 🙂

    Amy C.

  512. Pretty!!!! It reminds me of my Oma’s jewelry. How about Cameo Brooch? I think she had a necklace in that color too, but that’ not really an inspiring name :-).

  513. A few people have already mentioned rust, and it does remind me of the old rusty lanterns of the fisherman’s village where I come from: rusty lantern

  514. Harvest sunset, harvest moon, poppop’s rose, country brick, flowerpot ted, autumn glow,

    1. I am looking out my window right now, and its the exact same color as my coral geraniums, so how about Coral Geranium, or Grandma’s geraniums

  515. I love the idea of names that evoke a memory. It looks like my mom’s tiger lilies, but yet it also reminds me of the pink lemonade my sister and I used to drink as kids.

    So, Tiger Lily
    Pink Lemonade
or Tickle Me Pink (for Mary Lennox in “The Secret Garden” who had never been tickled before)

  516. I don’t have a website or blog, but have been a long time follower of your blog. The color reminds me of sweet Mellon.

  517. I’m not a fan of red but this one is softer. Perhaps one of these…

    – Toolbox Red

    – Toy Truck

    – Spoon Handle

    – Old Door Red

  518. What about Dinner plate Dahlia. I use to have a beautiful Dinner plate Hibiscus this color at my previous home.. It had such beautiful flowers that bloomed the size of a dinner plate. However, I think it sounds better as Dinner plate Dahlia.

  519. “Down By The Sea” or … First let me share the story. My sister Laura who was 4 years younger than me was 6 months pregnant. And in the process of redoing her bedroom. She painted the walls a dusky purple added some cream and dusky sage. So beautiful. Before all this her and I had been shopping for maternity clothes. She said , “Marian, I need and oldish sweater to paint in. ” With her blond hair and blue eyes she never wore coral. But that day she bought a coral maternity sweater. I can just see her still. Paint splattered, preg. and having a blast. The next day after I saw her her and her hubby went to Lowes for more supplies. A mile away from home a car drove into the back of their buggy and instantly killed her.. All I have left is a painty coral sweater, millions of memories and her 2 year old little girl, Amy. So my other name would be “Laura’s Sweater”.

  520. Virginia Rose (Of course this is a line of china by Homer Laughlin, but since you have roots in Virginia and the color has a rose tint to it, thought it would be appropriate)

I am from Virginia and just love the name!

  521. “Faded Barn” We are getting ready to paint my parents barn and this color reminds me of what it looks like right now!

  522. I like the suggestions people have surrounding your grandparents especially Oma and her brooch. What about Oma’s Cameo or Oma’s Brooch. I also liked the one lady’s suggestion Oma’s Blush. What about Shades of Oma?

  523. Cherry
    Cherry soda
    Farm
    Farmer
    Tractor
    Shabby pink
    Shabby rose
    Thicket
    Well worn
    Blossom
    Gala
    Button box
    Begonia
    Depression glass
    Blush

  524. My geraniums are exactly that salmon color, so how about Grandma’s geraniums, or
Coral Geraniums. Chipped flowerpot is another idea, I certainly have a lot of them. lol.

  525. In honor of all things French…St. Tropez Sunset. It really does look that color!

  526. Why not give “her” a name? Coraline~the color coral symbolizes happiness and joy…the “energy of life.”

So I thought, instead of naming “her” after a thing or a childhood memory, and cause “she” is a bit bold, this sweet new angle would be just right…Coraline…so bold but happy! Yes that’s it…Coraline~

  527. I already submitted Honeycrisp, but I saw that he color is very close to my “Alabama Honeysuckle” growing wildly in my yard. So, my 2 ideas:
    Alabama Honeysuckle
    Honeycrisp

    Cheers!

  528. Haven Sunset—Haven conference and the fact the color reminds me of a wonderful sunset full of beauty and warmth.
    OR
    Opa’s Love—Grandmother’s, warmth and love.

    1. Sorry, my fingers got flying and I typed wrong…..should be

      Oma’s Love—
      or
Opa would work too. I just like the feeling of dedicating to a grandparent. Thought of your grandmother first, but typed in Opa instead. : )

  529. A lot of antique Cameos were carved out of coral. I would call it Cameo. Also, I am from Florida so I also like Flamingo (they are really more coral than pink).

  530. My first thought was “Raw”. My second was “Sunset.. Third ” Raw Sunset”. Fourth “Coral Salmon”. Fifth “Old Mansion Brick”.

  531. I immediately thought of picking raspberries with my Nan when I saw this colour. We would pick them and then she would fill the house with warm summer raspberry fragrance.

    How about raspberry foam?

  532. My mind won’t quit! “Monument Sand” (reminds me of the sands of Monument Valley)
Cobblestone (some of our Cobblestone streets have this color) “Cobblestone Brick”
“Wild Day Lily” (they grow wild along the roadside around here).

  533. Loving….Sorbet or Blush or blushed
Some other thoughts…Charmed Coral, Amaryllis, Dahlia

    Love the color!

  534. I also stick with greys and blues…so how about
“Outside the Box” or “thinkin’ outside the box”.

  535. You have received lots of great suggestions so far, but I thought I would add mine too. How about twig?

Good luck, it’s a lovely warm color with rich undertones.

    Jan

  537. I was thinking ,Marian grew up in Germany so maybe Ziegel or Baustein. The German word for brick.

  538. As we are getting ready for our annual Peachfest in Romeo, MI, I immediately thought of “peachykeen”. But then I thought about “Arizona”, “Sienna”, and “Sonoma”, since it also reminds me of the pretty “Desert Rose” colors out West.

    “Island Coral”

and then I started thinking in terms of music and

    “Coral’s Song”.

Old brick, vintage brick, clay roof, clay pot, old clay pot.

  542. It makes me think of a fruit…like Pomegranate Pink, or Pink Grapefruit.
    It’s really a pretty color.

  543. It’s the exact color of the flowers on my…
    Trumpet vine

    Rustic Melon

    Desert Sunrise

Just a few I thought when I saw the color.

  544. It reminds me of an antique metal childs toy. Like a car or a metal top tjat you would push in the center and it would spin

  545. I love this color, especially how it is styled here.
My suggestions: blush, 1863 brick(looks the same color of the bricks from my parents farmhouse built in 1863), rouge(stage makeup for you), and innocence(the blush of a young innocent). I reckon I have a theme working, lol!!

  546. When I see that color it immediately reminds me of McCoy Pottery that my Grandmother had in a mixing bowl set. One of the bowls was that color. I thought the name McCoy Coral would fit your new color perfectly.

  547. This is my third suggestion. Obviously all of my ideas don’t occur at the same time! I went thrift shopping this week and found an old piece of Roseville pottery. This corally, orangey, pink-red graces a lot of this vintage mostly floral-inspired pottery. This type of pottery, like this color seems not to match your style, but considering the hue of the new color, I think Roseville would be a great name. I think it’s an absolutely lovely color.

    Happy naming!

  548. Oh I love all the suggestions!! And Love this color. It makes me think of peonies with their layers of color. But I also see a very old copper color in it. How about Copper Peony? Or Burnished Copper?

  549. The color reminded me of the shells you picked while on your vacation in Maine so I thought “Vacation in Maine” or just “Maine” or “Beach Vacation”

  550. Like you, this color is not in my palette, unless it is a geranium. So I was thinking Geranium or Faded Geranium. It’s a beautiful color!

  551. This is one of my favorite colors – I have it in almost every room of my house. I know it’s long but I would call it “Old Fashioned Strawberry Cake” (or “Strawberries and Cream” for short).

Check out google pics – the color of the inside of the cut cake is an exact match! I made it for the Fourth of July and it reminded me of it right away.

I have a beautiful Waverly Rose wallpaper in my dining room that has various shades of this color as well as cream.

  552. My grandparents had a chair that was very close to the coral color of your new paint. It was faded but well loved and used and my grandfather would sit in it and smoke his pipe. The color also reminds me of the color of the rug that you wanted from your Opa’s house. I think Opa’s Carpet would be very fitting. If it was my paint line I would call it Grandpa’s Chair.

    1. Oh, Carol you have got to win this!!!!! IT IS ‘OPA’S CARPET” definitely. I love this color.

  553. How about “court house brick”, or I noticed it is the same color as my vintage horse blanket so ” horse blanket “

  554. This color is a favorite of mine. My home is set in soft blues to mineral blue greens and grays but the color brings the pop I love. Even though I lean towards this palette my love of colors has always been the FALL OR AUTUMN. So I see it as “AUTUMN BERRY” not bright and kinda muted.

  555. There used to be a timeless pattern on some dishes that my grandmother had and the flowers in the pattern were this exact color. The patter was called “Desert Rose”….perfect for this color!

  556. You have a lot of great suggestions already. How about spice box, spiced cider, rose clay or salmon rose?

  557. I think it reminds me of a “Dreamy Sunset” or “Coral Clay”. It’s a beautiful shade and I wouldn’t exactly say coral, which to my thinking is a bright sunny color. Your beautiful paint has an earthy depth to it and I think these names suggest the muted tone well.

I love all your colors, looking forward to seeing those 2 new shades you
    mentioned.

  558. This reminds me of an antique pink depression glass pitcher that my grandmother gifted to me. “Depression glass” perhaps? The color is beautiful.

  560. I was in the garden this morning and was inspired by a beautiful flower…. how about Begonia for the new paint color

  561. I can’t remember what state you live in but I think its Virginia – so how about “Cardinal” for the state bird.

  562. Because hens sometimes lay an egg with a pinkish, coral color to it, which reminds me of your new color, I’d call it HEN’S GiFT
Because my chiminea has a pink-coral tone to it, CHIMINEA, or PEASANT POTTERY.
Because it also reminds me of the beautiful silks made in India, INDIAN SARI.

  563. I would call it CAMEO or CAMEO BROOCH because it reminds me of an antique cameo brooch given to me by my grandmother. This color reminds me very much of the coral color background you find in many antique cameos.

  564. In honor of your recent trip to Arizona (my state!), how about: Canyon
    OR
I spent summers in Alaska growing up and my cousin and I would love to hike and pick and eat wild berries. Our favorite was: Salmon berry

  565. It reminded me of a photo with my child’s lip color so I would choose Baby’s Smile. For something not so sentimental, I thought it looked like the side of an old faded barn or the colors of a sign painted on the barn 60 years ago so I would go with something in that theme, Homestead, Barnside, Faded Sign. It’s a beautiful color…not my color palette in this house but once not so long ago, this would have been right in my Wheelhouse (another thought)…

  566. Hi Marion, what an amazing colour that Abbe and Jennylyn have developed! Nice job ladies!

My name suggestion is Carousel (from French carrousel). It’s reminiscent of the word coral, but is not overt. It’s french roots also are a tip of the hat to one of your favourite decor’s.

One of the most wonderful things about the old carousel’s is the beautiful colours used to lovingly paint the wooden horses, chariots etc. Everyone loves the Carousel!

  567. This color reminds me of a rusty vintage fire truck faded after time, think it describes the color perfectly!

  568. I have a teardrop shaped stone charm that belonged to my mawmaw which I was told to be CARNELIAN.

  569. Gala Apple (a perfect color match), Autumn Sunset or (wait for it) Oma’s Rug! You didn’t think this color is in your wheelhouse, but it looks like a match to the rug from your Grandmother! You may be using this color to coordinate with your “new” rug!

  570. Reminds me of a vintage coral crayon, maybe one Opa used, so how about ” Opa’s Coral Crayon “

  571. I think it looks like a dusky flowering quince flower…so my suggestion would be dusky quince!
    LOVE the color!!!

  572. This is a beautiful color ~ of course I love the red tones ~ how about “Melon” or “Potted Geranium”, “A Touch of Melon”! After reading all the names, I feel like I am plagiarizing ~ how about “Faded Barn”?

  573. It looks like the color of my daylilies outside my front porch. I would call it “Daylily” or “Autumn Leaves”. It is beautiful!!

  574. Oh I had a few names lined up but after hearing the other color names in your line, I think my WINNER of a choice is ‘Painted Desert’ because it’s hue reminded me of that color straight away and it’s earth enough to follow suit in your suite of names!

  575. What about faded poopy, though coral is the best way to describe it, it puts my in mind of a poppy once the bloom has opened completely and the vibrant color begins to fade

  576. Because your paint names have a personal meaning, I immediately reread your posts on your Opa and tried to see something in the pictures that were peach colored. The carpet appeared to be similar to this peachy color but figured that was just the pic (or my monitor). The flowers in the needlepoint looked peachy. And in the kitchen pic there is a door or something with what looked like peach panels. But I decided I liked representing a mood, a beautiful moment, you shared with your Opa, like singing on the porch. And if this ever happened late in the evening, you would have seen this color painted in the sky, so I came up with Opa’s Sunset.

  577. Well, I have been thinking. How about Coral Bells? They aren’t all pewter or purple. There are two rich color varieties that almost match: Crème Brulee and Amber Waves. So, how about Coral Wave?

I like one reader’s suggestion of melon; also Faded Barn, but I think melon may be too orange and Faded Barn, too red.

How about Terra Cotta or Tea Rose?

    Audition over.

  578. It is beautiful. Reminds me of the bottom of kittens paw. I would name the color ‘Kitten’

  579. Wish I´d come first….hahaha! The color reminds me of our wooden houses in Sweden, when the sun has burnt them a bit TOO much….”sunburnt red” is not a very florish name but…Or…”old Cherry”…..?

  580. Maui Sunset, Juicy Papaya or Seaside Shrimp….(or Nantucket Shrimp)?….suggestions that bring life to the color!

  581. This color is beautiful and reminds me of the beautiful Hibiscus plants here in AZ. They can range for a light coral to a deep red in which this can be done with this paint depending on the colors you mix it with. My suggestion is Hibiscus

  582. This color reminds me of my grandmothers coral cameo ring. I would call it “vintage cameo”, or “hardstone cameo”, or “coral cameo”.

  583. I would name it Barn Door. It looks like my barn doors and it was the first thing I thought of when I saw it.

  584. Ok, here’s another one: Maybe someone has already suggested these:

    Sunset Rose
    Sedona Rose
    Indian Paintbrush
    Rose Petal
    Wild Flower
    Wild Rose

Thanks for offering your readers this opportunity!

  585. It is the color of my little girl’s lips, so I would call it something like China Doll Rouge.

  586. This precious table and all its colors instantly reminded me of NEOPOLITAN (ice cream) – yum!

  587. My first thought is Bridesmaid 🙂 Also reminds me of a summer porch, maybe porch swing. You could also go another way and use Vintage Road.

    1. Just wanted to say Front Porch would fit here too, but I still like Porch Swing becuase of the memories it invokes.

  588. How about Tractor? It reminds me of an old weathered tractor, and the name fits with your line.

  589. What a great color! In trying to come up with a color name, several ideas came to mind:

bittersweet, bittersweet brooch, brick salvage, bittersweet posy, coral mum, coral charm, coral brick road and sunset coral.

I hope you can find something from all the reader’s great suggestions; what a fun opportunity to be apart of! 🙂

  590. Ever since I saw this color, and the opportunity to name it, I haven’t thought about much else :). So much fun, thank you!
A few more that came to mind:
    Weathered Window Box
    Coral Charm
    Bougainvillea
It seems close to the color Saltbox Houses were painted 200 years ago so SALTBOX
    Pink Adobe
    Setting Sun
    Pink Dunes
    Salvaged Coral
    Blushing Patina

  591. How about Coral gables, autumn sunset, clay pot, sedona clay?

    Good luck with your decision!

  592. This color reminds me of the old 1950’s pickup truck, thats been sitting by someones old barn for years. I’d call it ” Grandpa’s Faded truck”

  593. This color reminds me of the old corbels with the chippy paint that came off of the old Victorian homes long ago. They weren’t scared to accent them with beautiful colors. I love CORBEL!!!

  594. “Grecian Urn” since classical Greek pottery often has intricate coral or terra cotta decorative touches.

Another color name idea is “Corinthia” because it is a region in Greece and the first three letters so beautifully invoke “Coral”.

  595. How about muscadine jelly or just muscadine?
Or maybe watermelon or apricot splendor Thecor is so gorgeous that’s it’s really hard to find a worthy description. You have many great choices…..best of luck with finding your perfect name. Love your blog!

  596. May have been suggested – Faithful Clay Road. Good luck to all and thank you for the opportunity!
    Cheers! CZ

  597. I think “Used Brick” would be a good name. When I am Looking at my used brick fireplace I see a lot of this color.

  598. Hi Marian –

I love, love, love that color! The name jumped out at me right away… it should be “All Dolled Up” after the (website?? store?? blog??) Anyway, after the women who came up with the color.

  599. Great color! “Rusty oil can” or “Rusty lantern” …to light the way…
    Good luck with the contest!

  600. Haven’t read the others – on purpose- so this may be a duplicate. How about antique pomegranate?

  601. Maybe “Opa’s Rug” or “Brick Road.” The color looks similar to the rug you got from your Opa’s house. Love your ideas and style!

  602. In trying to stick to a vintage theme – more suggestions ~ Pumpkin Dust, Pottery Wheel, Potter’s Clay

  603. i can see women making fresh pies and putting them to cool on the pie safe. The coral looks like peaches and the golden brown top like a golden pie crust. So how about pie safe peach? I also like Geogia peach or Georgia clay. The color reminds me of deep clay soil as well.

  604. My grandmother used to make a wonderful Rhubarb pie. I think this color reminds me of the red tones in the Rhubarb so a name that plays on that would be fun…

    Rhubarb Pie
    Rhubarb
    Rhubarb Red
    Tart Rhubarb
    Sassy Rhubarb
    Grandma’s Rhubarb Pie

  605. Maybe “French Reef” with a nod to your love of French decor as well as the coral color or “Autumn Sunset”

  606. It reminds me of long and radiant summer afternoons trading stories with friends and enjoying life, so I’m going with Rosé Glow.

  607. Ah, but Marian, you do have this beautiful color in your home, just not on the furniture. Those beautiful coral roses on the shelves in your bathroom are the same lovely color. And they are in a gorgeous ironstone vase. So my name suggestion is Coral Rose.

  608. Using your German heritage and thinking of stories you told us of your Opa, I came up with:
    Opa’s Koralle (coral in German)

  609. How about “Parfait??”
One definition for it at Dictionary.com is:
“any frozen dessert in which fruit, nuts, etc., have been folded into whipped cream or egg custard.” If you added red berries to whipped cream or custard, you’d definitely get that gorgeous yummy color!

  610. I am late to this party and didn’t read many of the comments so someone else may have thought of this one first…. My suggestion is “Sweet Coraline”.

  620. Since she created it, maybe it should be called “Abbe’s blush” or “Abbe’s coral”

  621. I love this color challenge. So many ideas come to mind: “Terracotta pot,” “Sun-baked clay,” ” Redware clay,” “Unglazed redware bowl,” ” Adobe tile,” “Quarry tile.” When I was first married, I made a desk for my husband from six flue liners topped with a door. The color looks just like those flue liners. So an unromantic suggestion: “Flue liner.” And one more suggestion, a more yummy one, “Lobster bisque.”

  622. I already had one but was driving and thought of this one.
    * Sailor’s Delight
This is from old saying we always said growing up in a seaside New England town, “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight, red sky in morn, sailor’s take warn”. And the sky is never red when colored like the saying goes – it is more a salmon pinkish color just like your beautiful new color!

  623. Country Zinnia ….I was looking at flowers that make me smile today just before I came to your post. I saw a lovely Zinnia that really popped. Living in the country now I can easily see this in my garden next summer and the color matches perfectly!

  639. It’s the same color as an old iron farm bell my mom has lugged across 3 states for 40 years. The bell was used on her grandfathers farm when she was young. One day I will be the caretaker of the bell.
So, my suggestion is “Farm Bell”.

It also reminds me of red flannel shirts…So maybe “Soft Flannel Red” or “Soft Washed Flannel”?

  698. Hello,

I don’t see this as a crazy coral but the fresh LINSEED coating that is what makes all barns red (really a protective coating for the wood). I now it’s a simple word but its just such a pretty symbolic thing of rural living, I think of your cow painting, vegetarian, Young ones playing in a barn or perhaps those barn sales with hidden treasures and it just really reminded me of you from your blogs over the last 7 months. Either way I had a blast reading some of the peoples creative names and how they got them. I’m excited to see your pick. Until then keep the fun blogs coming!

    Warmly,
    Amanda

  699. Having just come back home from a trip in upstate New York, and having glimpsed wonderful old barns all over New York State’s country side painted in what appears to once have been color red and due to the elements it has weathered to this dusty, powdery, rose color, I say this new milk pain gets christened

    “BARNHOUSE RED”

Methinks this name suits it very well.

  700. This color reminds me of the gorgeous coral that floods the sky at sunset… and knowing your love for musical theatre, how about a nod to Broadway with a paint called Sunset Boulevard?

    1. I should explain that I grew up with salmonberries in British Columbia. It’s really just one word – “salmonberry”, but to market the paint, perhaps splitting up the word into two words is better. Salmonberries grow all along the Pacific Coast – from Alaska to California. The colour reminded me of picking these wonderful berries as a child.

  711. Reminds me of my grandmas cameo brooch. It was carved shell and coral. I would call it Grandmas Cameo or Omas Cameo. (keeping with your German heritage) Beautiful color btw.

Blessing to you & your family,

  726. This color reminded me of Anne of Green Gables for some reason. Maybe it’s because I’m feeding my daughter breakfast right now and she is a redhead, and so was Anne, which led me to think of ‘Chrysanthemum’ or ‘Chrysanthemum Coral’. (I even had to look it up to remember how to spell it. Lol) Good luck. I know whatever name you come up with will be a good one!

  727. I would name it “Milk Maid”, It brings to mind a worn cotton apron that a milk maid would wear.

  728. If you’re familiar with the south at all , you’ve seen that color a lot ! Our dirt is “red”.

  729. Baby Lip Bloom, Baby’s Lips, Baby Lips, Baby Lip,

  735. I can see that color on the outside of a Victorian house…..Victorian Breeze. 🙂
    Sheryl

  736. How fun is this, naming Miss Mustard Seed’s paint?! Seeing the coral color reminds me of the ocean and being a certified scuba diver and lover of snorkeling, it is as pretty as some of the actual coral that I’ve seen in the Caribbean waters in which I have swam. So, I choose Coral Reef Pink, Coral Reef, Reef Pink. Pink Coral, or maybe Sea Urchin, Sea Urchin Pink.. There’s a lot of ladies who live on or near coastal waters and that love to paint, so they might love this name too, I hope! If you want to go with a more country name, I choose, Old Rose, Rosie, Coral Rose, Heirloom Rose or maybe just Heirloom. Good luck every one!

  737. I am in the process of redoing my living room and this looks like one of the colors in my inspiration painting. The painting is of 3 angels ( I have 3 daughters) floating on coral colored clouds. So how about Angel Cloud !

  738. I love the names of your paints for the very reason that they do mean something to you. So naming a color you wouldn’t use in your house is a challenge. Being a southern girl however I’m sure you’ve had your share of southern red clay on your white tennis shoes! So I think Southern Clay might fit the bill! However Faded Hydrangea is hard to beat!

  739. Heirloom Tomato
    Rusty Bisque
    Rusty Rose
    Vine Red
    Heirloom Coral
    Peach Pit
    Vintage Rose
    Summer Blush
    Zinnia Red
    Peach Cobbler
    Crisp Coral

  740. Lobster Bisque (it reminds me of Nantucket Red – but I suppose that name is already taken)

  741. The color reminds me of old bricks or faded bricks, so I would call it:

    Faded Brick or
    Old Brick

  742. Ruby Red Grapefruit
    Pink Grapefruit
Old Fashioned Breakfast Grapefruit with a Cherry on Top (How to shorten that??)

I keep looking back at the color and I’m so impressed at how clear and fresh it is. Most coral paints seem muddy to me. I’m thinking I might have to get adventurous and try it!

Thanks for the fun name challenge!

  743. I too tend towards blues and grays, but this new color is gorgeous. A pink, orange, coral shade is flattering in fashion and the home. P.S. You would look great in this color.

I digress . . .. to me this color says “watermelon”
It reminds me of the watermelons grown in backyard gardens as opposed to the bright red ones we find at the supermarket.

  744. This color reminds me of Tuscany buildings, tile roofs, and sunsets. So I suggest:
    Tuscany
    Tuscany Chateau
    Tuscany Brick
    Pottery
    Pottery Urns
    Clay Pottery
    Tuscany Sunset
    Chateau Coral or Coral Chateau
    Coral Clay
    Melon
    Sunset Coral
    Chicago Brick
    Antique Brick

  745. This thought came to me last night: Just plain “Lipstick” I bet you have a color similar in your makeup kit!!! Such wonderful names that other people have given, and this one seems so plain, but it speaks volumes! I’ll love it, no matter what you choose!!!!

  746. I’m a lover of all things Hawaiian. The paint color is truly in the coral family, and reminds of the colors in Key West. So pairing my love of Hawaii and the southern coral palette, perhaps something like, “Tropical Coral” or “Tropical Paradise”.

  747. Sedona Sky as in the mountains of Sedona Az. I remember this was one of the colors in that gorgeous landscape.

  748. It reminds me of a vintage “doll case” that my grandmother kept in the closet for us to play with; and also of her “snap dragons” in various shades of this color.

I can’t wait to hear what you decide on. Your names always seems so perfect!

    Doll case
    Snap dragons

  749. It brings to mind a ballerina outfit faded and beautiful. I would call it “coral tutu” . Something that makes you happy enough to do a graceful dance!

  750. this is a challenge because I love that each one of the names in your line tie into your style or your home…but since you are a lover of all things vintage how about:

Vintage Brick, vintage Rose, Vintage conch or Vintage coral or vintage peony, vintage red using the word heirloom..

Heirloom Rose, Heirloom peony, heirloom pink, or simply rosebuds, it looks like my favorite color of rose bushes in my home…its not a red not a pink but a very soft coral color and love to clip them when they are just rosebuds and put them in my robins egg blue vases from Target…

I’ve been dying to try your paint I hope I win!! crossing fingers, toes, eyes, legs,..arms.

  751. Gram’s Apron – my Grandmother had a wonderful apron she would wear while baking that was this color. I loved watching her make pies, her hands were all crippled up with arthritis, but she made the best pies and homemade dinner rolls! When she put that apron on you knew it was a good day for your tummy!!

  752. Looove this color! It reminds me of the many different blushes created by summer. The blush of a sunset. The blush of a rose. The blush on our cheeks as we enjoy summer activities. So I think it should be called Summer Blush.

  753. Love all the colors in your MMSMP line. I haven’t used any yet, but hope to one day.

A synonym for coral comes from the Mediterranean coral known as “stony skeleton” because of its grainy texture. Stony skeleton might sound a bit ghoulish, but it adds a bit of mystery.

Good Luck with this contest. Naming your milk paint colors has to be one of the hardest things to do, like naming your children, they will have it forever, so make it good 🙂

  754. Having grown up in the Southwest (AZ in particular) I think of Sun Dried Adobe tiles on all of the roof’s, or the brilliant shades of coral in the Evening Sky creating Romantic Sunsets. I would be honored to receive a package of your paint delivered to my door. I’m giddy just thinking about it.

  755. I live in Idaho and w/all the fires we have had around here this summer that’s exactly the color of the sunsets we are having…”setting summer sun”…or maybe for a little different direction…”the kettles on”…couldn’t you just picture a cute little antique copper kettle on the old country stove…Or, one last thought…”French rouge” or just “rouge”…kinda reminds me of those old pots of rouge I used to find in my mamma’s purse when I was little. 🙂

  756. It looks like the same color as the Honeysuckle vines climbing on the fences outside our farmhouse in NH, so I might name this color Honeysuckle. It is also the color of dresses my great grandmother wore- maybe Vintage Dress? Or Cameo? Faded barn sounds nice to me as well but not sure as this looks like more of a coral…

  757. wow love the color with hits of red and coral a faded barn over time hit by the sun day by day “Rustic Red”

  758. “Cameo” Because it reminds me of those old vintage necklaces, broaches, and rings that have this color background with the white profile of the lady on them.

  759. For some reason, I’m was thinking of your cow Eulalie and the name “Coralee” popped into my mind!

  760. The first name that popped into my head. Was “crab cakes”( because the table reminds me of a little crab!)Then maybe Faded Barn, Shrimp on the Barbee, maybe I’m just hungry!
See you in Alabama at the Chapel Market.
    Caroline Howard
    Queen of the Nest

  761. Farm tractor would be wonderful! They fade to that soft red. Or red wagon is good too.

Whatever you choose will be a great fit I am sure.
I look forward to getting to use your MMS milk paint line and the waxes too.

  762. It reminds me of a pinky Jasper brooch my grandmother used to wear, so how about Grandmother’s Brooch.

  763. I would call it “Ferris”!

Reminds me of a ride on the ferris wheel on a magically warm summer night at the state fair, with cotton candy and water melon…mmmm!! 🙂

  764. I think you should name it Tritan or Foghorn because the color looks similar to the leather from your Opa’s foghorn.

  765. I live in southern Missouri where the neighbors have barn dances and invite the whoel tri- county area. It’s a summertime tradition to get all gussied up, head out to the barn, and lock eyes with Mr McDreamy…. then waiting for him to get the nerve to shyly ask you to dance. This is the color of the whole experience, so I suggest calling it “barn dance”.

  766. Marietta… Traveling down memory lane, this color reminds me of all I hold dear about the area my grandparents who were farmers, frequented to buy and sell. Scenes of faded and rusty old tractor bodies and seats, and well-worn barns now a faded reddish coral, have forever left wonderful memories of closeness, family and treasuring those who sacrificed much!

  767. Wishing you would reconsider your stance that your latest color, coral ,isn’t your color … it really IS your color, and will make your eyes shine and complexion glow.. try a scarf close to your face and see how it lights up face….
Burnished sunset would be an accurate descriptive name for this beautiful new addition to your color way.

    1. I agree that coral is the color for you to wear. I have the very same complexion and hair color you do. I always get the most complements when I wear coral!!! It makes me feel like a million bucks.

  768. EarIierl today I suggested watermelon, but that just didn’t seem just quite appropriate. In keeping with the true nature of MMS paint colors and their beautiful results I am now thinking “HIERLOOM WATERMELON”

  769. What about Abbelyn — after the ladies who came up with this amazing color! So many great name suggestions.

  770. How does Sunset Quince or Flowering Quince or Persimmon Sound or Persimmon
Sunset Sound?. I would truly love the paint gift box.
    Thanks,

  771. As I sit making a fall inspired wreath I noticed your new color is the same color as one of the vines I am using – call it Bittersweet. The center bud is a match….and everyone loves Bittersweet. Comfort zone returned!

  772. “Honeysuckle” It reminds me of the vines that are native to this area, not quite pink, not quite red, not quite orange. Plus they are blooming right now, as the color is being debuted!

  773. The first thing that came to mind was mixing bowl, or batter bowl…it reminds me of those old faded red Pyrex bowls. I like biscuit tin too….a nice old painted, and faded, chippy tin. I am anxious to try your paint and waxes.

  774. My suggestions:

Grosgrain (can’t you see a pretty grosgrain ribbon in this color?)
Apple Cart (picture a weathered old cart, with faded paint)
Fall Leaf (many of our leaves turn this color in Autumn)
Tractor (it reminds me of the color of my great uncle’s old farm tractor)

    Betsy

  775. Faded Glory, it reminds me of the red color in the flag when it’s been in the hot sultry sun.

  776. It’s a great coral color! It actually reminds me of vintage Fiesta Ware dishes. I think the color I’m envisioning was called “Rose”–so I’d call it Fiesta Rose.

An amazing giveaway! Thanks so much for the chance to win! 🙂

  777. Oh I love this color. It reminds me of the coral and sea star specimens in an old Victorian cabinet of curiosities . I suggest “Victorian Curio” or “Coral Curio.” Or even “Haeckel’s Starfish” after the Victorian illustrator.

This color also reminds me of the tomatoes I’m harvesting right now, so how about: “Heirloom Tomato” or “Pink Brandywine.”

  778. I love this color, maybe because it reminds me of a sweater that I have had forever and is so comfortable that I cannot get rid of…even though it’s totally shapeless by now. So….

    Cardigan Coral

    Abbe’s Coral

Georgia Clay (I lived in Georgia and it reminds me of the color the clay gets when it dries.)

Good luck with naming…I would love to win cause I want to use it!

  779. I would love to see it called “Trumpet Vine”. It is a pretty color and reminds me of a childhood summer day spent keeping “Wooly”(one of Grandma’s) great sheep, away from her precious Trumpet Vine. That Trumpet Vine would spill over a large gate, and Wooly just love to eat those sweet flowers. I spent so much time bargaining, cajoling and distracting that sheep.
It was truly a losing battle.
My Grandmother had beautiful garden’s which she loved, that Trumpet Vine was one of her favorites such a pretty flowers.
I would be pleased to have it called Trumpet Vine, such a lovely color full of memories.

  780. What a beautiful color! It reminds me of the red rock in Sedona Arizona. I like the name Sedona Sand which brings to mind the sunrises and sunsets reflected on the beautiful terra cotta rocks.

  781. Apple Cider, Cinnamon Stick, Fruit Punch, Rose of Sharon.

*The color reminds me of the inside of the Rose of Sharon bloom 🙂

  782. I’m from the mid-west, the farm lands of Iowa and this color reminds me of the big harvest moon that would appear at dusk as the sun would sink into the horizon causing all the colors to melt together into this beautiful choral color that you could see for miles! I can smell the brisk fall air right now! I’d name it HARVEST MOON!

  783. Watermelon. (Not sure if that’s already been suggested – i didn’t read through all 2000+ of the previous comments)

  784. CANYON CLAY

It reminds me of the clay dirt trails in the Grand Canyon. My legs would be this color after hiking the switchback trails down to the Colorado River.

  785. Sorry if this came through twice… Grandma’s Polish, Grandmother’s kiss, Jabbe, muddy tire,
Grandmas laugh, bouquet, ….reminds me of my grandmas nail Polish and lipstick she wore.
    thanks!!

  786. Pomegranate!! Like the fruits that blushed outside my home in Arizona! Beautiful color!

  787. This color reminds me of “Sherbert”…..now I’ll never be able to pick my favorite MMSMP color!

  788. I adore this color, for I have inherited several antique oriental rugs that boast several shades of your new addition! The color always welcomes me home! Some ideas for names include:
    soft salmon
    welcome glow
    antique brick
    terra cotta
    Georgia clay
    clay pot
    rustic rust
    brick beauty
    sunset sigh
    sizzle
sailor’s delight (after that old saying,”Red sky at morning, sailors take warning; red sky at night, sailor’s delight!)
    warm sigh

    Thanks, Carol Edington

  789. My first pick is Gooseberry (the vintage pyrex color)

    Also like:

    Shirley Temple
    Bittersweet
    Scarlet O’Hara

  790. I did not read through all of them. It is going to be difficult to choose….here are my suggestions—-Salmon Red, or Dixie Clay

  791. What a fun color! Reminds me of the 1930’s coral. And an apron that my great grandma had. So how about “Adeline’s Apron”. It’s also the same color as the gladiolas I have on my table. Maybe just “gladiola”. That would be pretty! 🙂

  792. The color is yummy…. It reminds me of a watermelon, but a little spicy.
    How about Melon Cider????

  793. My mind started wondering, so there is not theme to my suggestions.

-Sweet Cheeks – because it reminds me of a young child, or doll’s, pink cheeks
-Just a Pinch – for what your cheeks looked like as a child when Mommy pinched them to “put some color in your cheeks.”
-Anniversary Roses – my husband buys me the most beautiful coral roses for my anniversary every year.
-Magic Hour – is the time just before (and just after) sunset when the sky is that fabulous, intense explosion of colors. It’s exhilarating and soothing at the same time. It can be anything to anybody.

Thanks for the opportunity to exercise my imagination for a while. I do love the color very much. I can’t wait to try it. Good luck with the naming process! You’ve received some good suggestions.

  794. Old Flame
    Spicy Shrimp
    Lobster Trap
    Wild Salmon
Chinook Salmon (this is also the name of a type of wind)
    Chinook
    Coho
    Heirloom Tomato
    Vintage Love
    Old International
    Salty Coral

I hope you like my suggestions! Their is a story to go with all of them. I love this new color! Tiffany

  795. “Rusty Wagon” ~ it reminds me of a well used child’s wagon. The one that a child would have put all his or her backyard treasures in. A wagon that would sit outside all summer long with the heat and rain, with a little metal showing because of all of the love the child gave it.

  796. I would say one of these:

freckles (for the peachy look they give your face)
lantana (I love the peachy shade that shows up in this flower)
zinnia (the pink is my favorite color in these blooms)

or something funny…”I’m not blue,” “Out of the blue,” “Not Gray Today” since you like blue and gray so much!!

  797. When I think of vintage anything in this colour I think of a piece of beautiful old jewellery. My suggestion is “Cameo”.

  798. I have a thing for glassware so my suggestion stems from that. Love how the light reflects off glass and plays with it in window. My suggestion is Carnival Glass Coral. Carnival glass comes in a full range of colors yellow, pink, green, orange, blue, red and the richer coral color.

  799. Love Abbe’s Coral, after the designer and the color is so perfect. Just found your paint’s here in Lancaster at Fresh Vintage by Amy. Loving the luckett’s green and mustard seed yellow.

  800. Vintage radio flyer I have one exactly that color in my backyard that has been bleached by the sun :). Or it reminds me of chinaberry beads. It also reminds me of earthenware 🙂

  801. Holy Moly,

Two thousand comments!!! and so many good names, i wouldn’t even attempt to compete… I kind of like the suggestion “Salty Coral”… I think “Rusty Wagon” sounds like something you’d like… and i like “heirloom tomato” too, but that is as far as i could get reading suggestions!

    Cindy

  802. I would call it “Curiosity” The shade reminds me of spunk and zest and “let’s see what’s around the next bend, shall we?”

  803. Our fire hydrant by our house has faded with time……hydrant?

    Fleece…I’m never without one.

    Flickering Flame

    Ragged Rug

    A shot of Coral

    Cardinal

    First Kiss

I can’t help myself……I could keep going. Thank you!

  804. I think the PERFECT name is Corabelle. Why Corabelle you say ? Because that is the perfect name for a beautiful Coral paint and also the perfect name for Eulalie ( your Cow paintings), best cow friend. And you thought Eulalie was just sitting there keeping watch over her pasture. Nope, she was waiting for Corabelle, her best bud !

  805. Paintspatter, Coral Paintspatter,

    Coral Putty

    Rose Hip

    Opa’s favorite color?

    Dreamin’ of Coral

  806. This is the color my grandma wore to my wedding. She was a feisty beatiful lady who lived to be 102. She had snow white hair and strong opinions. She was gentle and loving with all the grandchildren, but very free advice giving to the adults. Her name was Erma, and she had so much spunk she wouldn’t let anyone take her Christmas tree out of the house when she was 100 years old. So the name I would choose is “lovely lady”- in rememberance of all the fiesty, sweet ladies of that generation.

  807. Since you were out in the west (my backyard) when this color came out, why not something to do with that? This coral falls right into the beautiful array of pinks, tans and corals of our beautiful canyons and desert areas. In fact, there are dunes in Utah called “Coral Sand Dunes.” The sand is just this color when wet. Since you vacationed at the Grand Canyon, why not “South Rim” or “North Rim”? Think about the favorite spot where you saw this color while visiting this summer. Phantom Ranch? Lee’s Ferry? Native Coral? Good luck!

  808. … so all of your other MMS paint colors are named for the things you love, right? Do you love the brilliant peachy pink of the sunset just after the sun has dropped below the horizon? I LOVE that color! Your new coral reminds me of it, so you could go with “Sunset Coral”, or go geographical with “Eastern Sunset” or “Pennsylvania Sunset”. My personal favorite, however would be to call it just “Sunset”, period.

  809. It makes me think of jewelry, like an old cameo. How about cameo, or coral rose.

  810. Screen Door. My husband’s parents had a cute cabin in Colorado that had a screen door that same coral color. The color looked so cheerful next to the dark stained log siding. I love the sound of an old screen door closing…..reminds me of Summer and days gone by.

  811. I am crazy about this color, and trying to name it!
    Old Ballet Slipper
    Tiffany Rose
Lady- Like (another type of rose)
    Coral Slate
    Puppy’s Tongue

  812. instantly reminded me of shrimp and lobster hues…
    How about
    1.Gulf Shrimp Bisque
    2.Maine Lobster
    3.Louisiana Crawdad

  813. It looks like “Pink Grapefruit”.. or if its more of a coral in person then coral reef. Those would be my two.

  814. Heirloom Tomato. It reminds me of the color of one of the delicious heirloom tomatoes a friend gave us

  815. It makes me think of rhubarb. Also, the flowers on top of the table look like a pretty good match…. I don’t know what they are called but maybe you could name the color after them.

  816. How about: Say hello to Hollyhock! It is the color of one of the hollyhocks, now spent, by my back porch.

  817. I first opened my retail store in 2007 which at the time seemed “edgy” We wanted to feature local artists and craftsman!! I have always held a special place in my heart for creative people (my mother is a canvas artist) and I wanted to try and give them a space to sell their wares. I also wanted to be in the business of repurposing items that other people wanted to throw away. One of the very first things I bought were two very crunchy, very old corbels. They spoke to me right away. They had a mixture of chippy white and coral paint on them. I still have them and they are proudly holding a piece of barn wood where I display candles and many other items. So I vote for the name of “CORBEL” or “CORA BELL”
    Thanks for all you do!!!
    Marty Simmons

  818. I have a summer sundress this color,so I think “Sundress” would be a nice name. A lot of people have commented that it reminds them of a beautiful sunset, so it has a nice meaning because you can “dress” your furniture, etc. in this sunny color.

  819. I used to love playing dress up with my grandmother’s make up and this looks like the shade of her rouge. It always gave her such a beautiful glow, so my ideas are “Rouge” or “Grandma’s Rouge” 🙂

  820. It looks similar to the coloring in a ‘Marianum’ it’s a thistle. Red Thistle, Marianum, Rusted Dahlia all come to mind.

  821. ‘Red Factor’ Charolais- for your love of cows!
Mountain Coral- after the jewelry this color but I like the name for the significance of mustard seeds and mountains!

    Love the new color!

  822. I was immediately reminded of cubby cheeks on the adorable Cupids found on vintage Valentine cards. How about “Cupid” , “Valentine” or “Vintage Valentine”

  823. I vote for ‘Rolling Pin’ or ‘Cookie Cutter’ because the wooden handles on my Nanny’s favorite kitchen tools where such a similar shade of rich coral. She also painted her Garden Shed Door that same shade and it was a place of wonder and joy when I was a girl! I still remember potting up tomato plants with my Poppa as he hummed ‘Great is Thy Faithfulness’. Good for you for going outside your comfort zone Marian and including a color that will compliment so many of the comfortable colors in your wonderful paint line!

  824. Just had another idea….how about “Turban Squash”…it has the same reddish orange hue and if it were painted over Boxwood and then chipped off, it would have the same organic appeal!

  825. It reminds me of the first antique I bought with my mom when I was a little girl. I would call it “carnival glass.”

    Virginia

  826. First of all, great color! I love coral. Second, you’ve got your work cut out for you with all of the great suggestions you’re getting! Here are my suggestions:

Farm Stand – this color just reminds me of some farm stands I have seen

Awning – same reason as above

Milking Stool – I realize it’s not a traditional milking stool color, but it would look fantastic on one!

Parlour – old houses often had parlours painted in a shade of pink

    Peony – a gorgeous flower

Old Tin Roof – this color reminds me of a faded red tin roof

Porch Swing – this color would look gorgeous on a wooden porch swing

Spanish Clay – this color is reminiscent of terra cotta roof tiles

Weathered Barnwood – this color looks like a faded red barn

Sunwashed Wagon – like a little red wagon left too long in the sun

I didn’t read all of the thousands of comments, so I hope none of these is a repeat!

  827. How about “Inspired”? I can’t help but wonder if the rich color in your Oma’s rug may have been an inspiration for this color without anyone even realizing it. So I would say Oma’s Rug or Inspired. I also think “Lipstick” would be a great name for it.
    Good Luck!
    Susan

  828. It makes me think of a coral colored cameo necklace. So Coral Cameo or Vintage Cameo.

LOVE this color! Can’t wait to try it!

  829. Beautiful color. Makes me think of summer also. What about Summer’s Blush? The color your cheeks turn in the summer’s heat. Love your style!!!

  830. What about naming new paint colors after sights around the United States? Having just walked over the Golden Gate Bridge today, your new color reminds me of that bridge! Or a Sonoran Desert sunset. Great new color!

  831. Had another thought – you could call it Lynette, for the owner of Wild Rose. Though it’s not quick pink enough.

  832. When we got married in 1982, I carried a rose of that colour. So my pick would be ” peach blush” after that colour.

  833. Some more ideas (I haven’t been back to read the comments, so I hope none are repeats!)

Barn Door (because it reminds me of a weathered old barn door)
Tin Toy (I had a wind-up tin elephant as a kid, and he had this color on him)
Circus Car (similar to the Tin Toy idea)
Old Glory (it looks like the red color of a faded antique flag)

    Betsy

  834. As soon as I saw your new color.. Victorian Heart… came to mind. I have seen this hue in my Daughters Victorian Home. I love it. I have used your paint on customers projects and can see great possibilities for this color.

  835. Desert Rose….. for an awesome color of the desert

Pink Cinnamon….. for the yummy foods that could be made on it

Pipestone…..for the color of rock at Pipestone, MN

Prairie Sky or Desert Sky….. for a color of the summer evening sky

Salmon King….for the color of the salmon fish

Antique Pink…..for the color of pink on an old cotton tea towel that belonged to my Mother

  836. I love the idea of gables as added architecture on farmhouses…. I also like cupolas with weather vanes….I just like the way cupcake sounds with coral….

    1) coral gables ( gables can mask the roof pitch, as paint can mask the not so pretty furniture )
    2) coral cupola…..(
    3) coral gable…..(
    4) coral cupolas ( small structures and small color changes can make a BIG difference)
    5) coral cupcake ( home sweet home)
    6) coral castle ( we should all view our homes as castles)

  837. This is so much fun…and I have so many ideas. (and yes, I actually have dreamed of naming paint colors).
    Here goes:

Because you love antiques and vintage things so much, here are a few suggestions along that vein. FIrst off, this soft coral color reminds me so much of my french mattress ticking and my french grain sacks. While you have collected blue…I have collected red. The old ones have faded into this beautiful coral color. How about:
    *Vintage Red French Ticking or
    *Faded Red French Ticking

    Other antique related names:
    *Pink Depression Glass
*Vintage Prom Dress (think about all those faded chiffon pick dresses)

    Or, some food related names:
*Strawberry Lemonade (inspired from your love of Izze soda)
    *Pink Pearl Apple
    *Pink Lady Apple
    *Pink Applesauce

    Other ideas:
*Coral Nymph (this is a flower…and it’s just this color)
    *Coral Peony

    And last idea:
*Flamingo. (if you look at pictures of a real flamingo…they are this pretty coral color, not pink)

    Thanks for the opportunity.

  838. Reminds me of an antique coral colored tea cup my mother had, so I would choose the name “Tea Cup”,

  839. Such an intriguing color. It reminds me of an old wagon my children had, so I would name it “Faded Red Flyer” or “Rusty Red Flyer”. I also like the name “Hide and Seek Pink”.

Thanks for allowing your followers to name it!

  840. Came up with two more!

    Grapefruit
    Raspberry lemonade (my favorite drink)
Oooh or sangria (my other favorite drink)

  841. I have three so far…. 🙂

    Crush
Red Sky at Night, Sailors Delight
    Coral Blush

    Jennifer in Virginia

  842. One more:

This color reminds me of a little doll I had with a pink dress…

So how about the name Dolly for this paint color?

    Jennifer in Virginia

  843. Nantucket red. It’s the exact color of those famous preppy chinos that start out red and fade to that salmony pink.

  844. When I was growing up we had a elderly lady who lived in a beautiful Victorian home a few blocks down the street. She always wore a cameo at her neckline and I always admired it. This color reminds of that cameo. Her name was Esther so I would name it Esther’s Cameo. It’s a beautiful color. It would be beautiful on bedroom furniture for a little girls room. Love all your colors!

  845. Hi, Marian. Have you picked a color name yet?

In remembrance of your family’s vacation to Colorado, how about:

    Mesa Verde

    or

    Colorado sunrise?

Hope you had a fabulous trip and enjoyed our beautiful state!

    1. p.s.

      or Colorado sunset

We Coloradoans see this color either sunrise or sunset, depending . . .

  846. You say that the colour comes from your “Wheelhouse”,
    perhaps then “Waterstone Red”…

    Trixie, lovinglymadeltd – Sussex, England

  847. Hi Marian! Hope you had a wonderful vacation :0). Thank you so much for the enjoyment I receive from your blog~~~truly an inspiration~~~thank you for sharing from your heart.
The paint colors in the line are beautiful to say the least! I would like to add CANDIED YAM to the suggestion mix. The new color just reminds me of a warm, fall, comfort food.
    XO,
    Linda, Chino Valley, AZ

  848. How about :

    1. AbbeLyn
    2. AbbeLyn’s Love
    3. AbbeLyn’s Lipstick

    * Coral Coast
    * Setting Sun
    * Sea Me Coral

  850. “SEA SHELL”
A few years back we found perfect sea shells for “listening to the ocean” in Myrtle Beach.
These shells had a beautiful coral color on their insides, much the same as your new paint color.

  851. It reminds me of rosey little doll cheeks so how about:
    Rosy Cheeks
    Paper Doll Cheeks
    Paper Doll Blush
    Blushing Doll
Also looks like grandma’s rhubarb so maybe:
    Rhubarb jam
    Rhubarb pie

  852. Grandmother’s Rouge.
It reminds me of going to my grandmother’s and peeking through her make up, which contained those small tins of rouge in an array of colors that looked far too red to actually wear! 🙂

  853. I couldn’t possibly read through all of these suggestions, but I sure hope “Sun Faded Radio Flyer Wagon” hasn’t been suggested yet. Because that’s what color I see and FEEL!

    Thanks for another wonderful post!

  854. My first thought was
“Coraline” because it is a lovely old fashioned name
    then
    “Peaches and Cream” and lastly
    “Faded Rose”
Hope i didn’t miss the deadline, been busy on projects :0)

  855. Ooooooooooooohh….I love this color! I would call it Vintage Rose. I can’t wait for it to be on the market!

  856. This color reminds me of two things: my Grandma’s old juice pitcher and her rouge. Going off that inspiration, I came up with these names:
Blushing Bride, Tea Cozy, June’s Blush, June’s Rouge

I think I’d better call my Grandma 🙂

  857. I just went back and read everyone’s suggestions! Sorry Lori I didn’t see you had already suggested Vintage Rose. I do think it’s a great name though! Some of the others are pretty good too!

  858. ALHAMBRA

One of the most amazing place’s on earth. One word one color & so Spanish

This is the color that reminds me of this beautiful place. in Granada

  859. Marian,
I think it is a stand out color and not sure if anyone else suggested “Coral Bell” as a name.
    fingers crossed
    rick

  860. The new color brings to mind the name “Antique Geranium”. Grandma always had those coral colored geraniums in her flower beds!

  861. LOVE this new color!! I am an ‘orange’ person. I love to use shades of orange/coral/peach. I’m really inspired to try something with this new color. Can’t wait for it to hit the shelf of the distributor in my little town. So here are a few of my suggestions…

Peachpit, Tangelo, Country Sunset, Georgia Peach, Coral Lily, Campfire, Clementine, Georgia Clay, Cedar Chest, Orange Crush, Grilled Peach, Peach Spice, Peach Jelly Bean

  862. Another idea:

Pennant (it brings to mind some of the decorative flag pennants I’ve seen at Lucketts!)

    Betsy

  863. Forgot to include this one:

Fireworks (because it reminds me of the color of some of the July 4th sparklers we see in our local shows)

    Betsy

  864. I love this color! Out of all your beautiful colors,
this is my favorite! It is absolutely yummy! I’m going to
see what I need to paint.

    Salmon Marinade
    Salmon Spawn
    Cosmetic Coral
    Carousel Coral

  865. Simply put “Rosa”. I love this color and that’s the word that popped into my mind. Reminds me of sunsets in Sedona AZ. One of the most beautiful places in the world!

  866. Autumn Acres – At first glance it reminds me of fall, especially in the heart of the Midwest!

  867. Beautiful!

    Two things come to mind:
    1. Grapefruit (or, Grapefruit Zest)

    Geranium—-They come in all colors.

I have totally enjoyed participating in this survey, my mind hasn’t stopped. Thank You!

  869. This awesome color reminds me of the rug you got from Opa’s house.
    Oma’s rug

Also reminds me of an old petticoat I played dress up in at my Grandma’s

    Petticoat Blush

  870. Love this color!
    How about…
    Easter or
    Easter Morning
    Warmth
    Miami
    Peony
    Macaron
    Turkish Rug

  871. i think it should be named after Abbe. i read her story and it’s a strong, engaging one. the color reminds me of the earth and should be named after her because of her strength… maybe “downtown Abbe” … has a nice ring to it.

  872. And another one (am I becoming obsessed)?

Firecracker (in the same theme as the fireworks suggestion)

    Betsy

  873. Tool Chest….because it reminds me of faded red old tool chests….and that seems like your style. (I like it being named something more masculine, don’t know why!).
    Kelley

  874. This reminds me of the inside of a fig.

How about “figgy pudding”, “figgy”, or

    Also, the flower “coral bells”.

  875. I thought of one more to add to my list:

    Wheelbarrow

    (Again, I hope it’s not a repeat.)

  876. Love this color. I will be using this on my french dresser when it comes out. Here are a few name ideas:

    6. Amore
    7.Surprise
    8. Purty
    9. Vintage Pinky
    10. Cheeky

  877. Old World Brick or Faded Brick

It reminds me of old brick buildings, softened by weather and age.

  878. I’ve been thinking about this some more. I loved how you said that this color was “out of your wheelhouse”. That’s a fun name right there! Wheelhouse!
On the other hand, since this isn’t an “easy” color for you, how about calling it “Persuasion”?

  879. Here goes:

    Bryce Canyon
    Tucson
    Mediterranean Sky
    Painted Desert
    Citrus
    Ambrosia
    Dawn to Dusk

    Pink Fizz
    Kiss me Coral

Such a fun competition, good luck!

  881. Wow…there are some great suggestions…good luck picking the best:). I know you will know when you see it!

I was thinking you just went out west and experienced the sights of the Grand Canyon and hopefully you got to see Sedona, AZ so what about:

    Sedona Sunset or maybe
Midwest Coral (for all that fabulous jewelry out there)
    Or even just Grand Canyon

  882. Here’s a couple more that popped into my head….
Melon slice or watermelon slice or just Watermelon
    Summer melon
    Melon salad
    Melon picnic
    Summer sunset
    Blushing bride
    Innocence
    Young love

Good luck. This was fun. Can’t wait to see what you pick. I know it will be lovely and charming.

  883. After reading your vacation highlight post I think you should name your new paint color

    Grand Canyon Red !

  884. Hi Marion

How lucky we are to get to participate.

How about AJ’s Sunset? I see this colour in the summer sky in the evening as the sun sets over the water – caught in the clouds after a beautiful summer’s day

  885. How about ” Depression Glass Pink” , or my favorite, ” Pink Velvet” or ” Coral Velvet”? Oh what fun and I can so many possibilities using this color!

  886. I like “Heirloom Tomato” because of so many of these old-seed tomatoes are this beautiful coral color.

  887. I live near the beach in Southern California “Summer Sunset” is what that color reminds me of. As I watch the sun set every day on the mighty Pacific Ocean.

  888. Your description on your trip of the Grand Canyon was “At first glance, everything is brown, but then your eye discerns layers of reds, pinks, oranges, rusts”

    Grand Canyon

  889. Okay love the color! Can’t wait for it!!

I think the name “Indian paintbrush” is very fitting!

This is something very personal to me! It’s a flower that is coral and grows wild like crazy at my grandparents house in Arizona! Such great memories of running around looking for pottery and collecting these flowers for a vase! Use “google images” to see how pretty they are! They won’t disappoint!

  890. Pumpkinberry (who cares if pumpkins do not have berries? If they did they would be this color!)

    Or…

    Pumpkin Chiffon

Heirloom begonia (like the ones in the planters in Herald Square in NYC – an oasis in the city)

  891. Weathered Barn
    Canyon Sunset
    Tomato Bisque

This was fun! The experience reminded me of a grown up version of naming crayons. Thanks for including your readers in the process. I loved reading the latest responses.

  892. I love this color!!! It reminds me of the old fashioned flower Coral Bells……I think a great name would be “CORAL BELLE”…………(suggests a coral lady).

  893. Paprika….first thing that came to me when I saw this beautiful addition to your colors. Love it!

  894. Hey Marian- I think you should call it Rhubarb Pie. I think the colour you have created is lovely. It has a really great warmth too it without being too bright- kinda like the brightest part of the Rhubarb plant. It really is one of those colours that defies a definitive definition. It changes as the light does. So good luck with the naming. Either way you name it, it is a great colour.

  895. Gorgeous! That color reminds me of an old radio flyer that has sat in the sun for years. But to my dismay, I believe that name is trademarked! So my spin off of that would be “Rustic Wagon” or “Wheelbarrow”. I believe that compliments your love for antiques and the playfulness of having two boys.

  896. Here are some more name suggestions:

    1. Salmon
    2. Antiqued Salmon
    3. Navajo Princess
    4. Rose de Paris (Paris Pink in French)
    5 Romantique
    6.Vintage Romance
    7. Vintage Lady
    8. Watermelon
    9. Vintage Watermelon
    10. Raspberry Sorbet

  897. Love the new color! Actually, I love them all; you have a great eye for color. My name suggestions are:
    1. Grand Canyon
    2. Weathered Brick
    3. Crush
    4. Setting Sun
    5. Sailor’s Delight (i.e. when you see a beautiful sunset….sailor’s delight)
    6. Autumn Leaves

    Good luck!

  898. …and thank you so much to the Homestead House Paint Company (and You, of course, Miss Mustard Seed)! Making Milk Paint and tutorials available in Canada…you’ve helped me make my apartment a home!

  899. Wind chimes…I love the whimsy they add to the air when they dance in the wind just like this color could add a whimsical addition to one’s decor.

  900. After reading your post on your vacation it seems GRAND CANYON may be a good name for this or SEDONA =-)

  901. I live in NC and here we have lots of red clay for dirt. This color sort of reminds me of the stains it can leave on things. I think Carolina Clay would be a great name! I love all your colors!!

  902. As a young girl I loved to watch the show, Bewitched. Most kids wanted to be Sam. Me? Darren. That’s right I said Darren. Why? I thought he had the best job I had ever seen or heard of. I LOVE the creative process. With that said, here goes…

Love ALL of your colors…including your newest. I saw your post just hours after it was posted. It took me a few days for it to “speak” to me. Here is my suggestion, “RUSTED GERANIUM”

Thanks for the fun opportunity to audition for you

  903. Rosie Cheeks , Grammie’s Garden, Geranium Pot ,Garden Brick, Weathered Conch Shell, GrandPa’s Tractor, Watermelon Summer, Faded Foxglove, heirloom tomato

  904. Hi Marion. I love your blog. Finding it 18 months ago inspired me to return to my hobby of “refreshing” antique furniture with paint. You introduced me to milk paint and I love it!

Tonight I was about to order some Eulalie’s Sky and more MMS furniture wax and I thought I would pop on the blog since I myself just returned from a family vacation with limited electronic devices.

I was delighted to see that you have added coral to your collection. I adore coral! I myself am a blue, turquoise, grey kinda gal, but coral adds that unexpected pop in decorating. It also happens to look fabulous with grey, turquoise and cream.

This summer I planted coral pink “Gypsy” dahlias in pots on my deck and have been delighted by their color all summer long.

    I have your book, and noticed you also enjoy flowers in your home, (although they are mostly hydrangea and dried lavender, blue and greyish, lol) Since you just added “dried lavender”, my vote for the new name is;

“Gypsy” or “Dahlia” or “Coral Gypsy”

I cannot add an image of my flowers, but copy and paste this link to see what mine look like.

    http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/166323/#b

typewriter, mustard seed, tricycle, gypsy, ironstone, grain sack- see, fits right in 🙂

P.s I love Furniture Fridays. I am hoping to submit a few of my furniture projects for consideration once they are complete!

    Sincerely,
    Gillian Ronald
    Calgary, Alberta

  905. Your new coral color looks like “Sponge Coral”, that just came straight from the sea.

  906. Dried Bittersweet….I had said bittersweet earlier, but I like adding “dried.” Okay, I used to be a copywriter! LOL Thanks Marian, this was fun and I LOVE all your new colors!

  907. I think it looks a bit like rusty intage metl, so how about “Rusty Wheelbarrow”?

  908. I love anything red brick, old, used up and faded even better. This color reminds me of “faded brick”.

  909. Bittersweet,

just right for a paint color being introduced this time of year, like the bittersweet berries that will soon be showing up in fall vignettes.

  910. This color reminds me of the color of my grandmothers pantry shelves. They were always clean but the color looked a bit dusty so I think of Dusty Pantry.
Other names that come to me are Dusty Rose, Dusty Coral and Sunburst.
Thank you for sharing your adventure.

    Dusty Pantry
    Dusty Rose
    Dusty Coral
    Sunburst

  911. I had a dream about the color last night, after reading about your visit to the Grand Canyon.
Looks like others had the same idea. But I like the name “Canyon”.

I’ve never been there but the pretty coral makes me feel like that’s is what I would see if I were to visit.

Enjoying your blog and following your journey.

  912. I LOVE your new colour and think that a good name would be Saltwater Rose. My husband and I recently visited the Oregon Coast and bought a bag (or two) of saltwater taffy. It reminded me of your new colour mixed with a hint of a late summer rose. Thanks for all your wonderful ideas!

  913. I know that you have chosen the paint color name already but I’m really hoping that someone thought of “Opa’s Rug”. When I was looking over your new camera shots I thought that the background color of that rug was very much like the new paint!

  914. I like this color although like you Marion, I love blue tones. this color reminds me of an old faded BARN. I also like the other suggestion, Canyon right on. very south western look.

All of your colors are great, no matter what they are named. go girl keep them coming.
    best wishes,
    Linda, from the OC

  915. I think the name “Sunday Dress”, would be perfect. It reminds me of a color that I would see the older ladies in church wearing on Sunday. It has that old fashion yet fancy feeling; and reminds me of things I have seen my great grandmother wear. I love all of your beautiful colors!

  916. Hi Marion,
It looks like watermelon on my monitor so an obvious name would be Watered Melon; however it also looks like a worn forever, washed to death T-shirt coverup I wear in the summer so my suggestion is Sunburned Watermelon.
    I love the table also.
    Maureen

  917. I am not sure if you have found your name for your new color yet, but here are four different ideas for names: Heirloom Rose, Summer Rose, Rose Petal or Brick.

  918. I would call it APRICOT BRANDY: it looks warm, rich, lush and yummy, just like the it’s namesake 😉
Good luck with your name search!

  919. I am sure I am too late but I will put my two cents in anyway in hopes of being timely!

This color reminds me of growing up in NW Philadelphia. There are so many historical home in the city. I grew up in Roxborough and there are still some beauties there. I remember walking to the library on Ridge Ave and passing these beautiful homes with tons of coral and red azaleas in full bloom. Back then all they had were coral and red! Now we are inundated with purple, pink and white. I am still on the hunt to find my “Vintage Azalea”!

And another recent memory triggered by your new color…my oldest daughter and I had the opportunity to travel to Paris when she graduated from High School 3 years ago. So many of the flower boxes that adorned the beautiful architectural buildings contained these beautiful coral colored geraniums! I have been on the hunt to find some and one day I wandered into Lowes and they had 2…so I bought them! I was so excited because in Alabama it is not uncommon for geraniums to come back year after year due to the mild AL winter. Not my luck! Still hunting for more of my “Paris Geraniums”!

  920. I love that color…reminds me of the color in the setting sun at our summer lake house. Thererfore the name I would choose would be Lake House Sunset!

Hope I win..can’t wait to try your product!!:D

  921. “Wheelhouse Inn”…It’s rustic and beautiful, soft and pretty. It opens up our senses and allows new ideas to take seed and blossom. It’s new and welcoming and no longer ‘outside’ of your wheelhouse.

I can’t wait for this beauty to launch.

  922. Oh dear, my page has just refreshed itself and I missed again! Too late…It’s just like my Momma always said (and lovingly, named me) “Debbie, you are “The Last Rose of Summer”.”

  923. Hi there, have you named your colour yet? I would love love love to win as ive never used milk paint before and would love to be introduced to it this way. I think …………………..

Lemon, lime and bitters, because its such a yummy drink and it reminds me of this colour ,or

    Red skye at night..shepherds delight

    coral hue

    fresh watermelon

    ‘ i carried a watermelon………!’

  924. How about “Rhubarb Red” or just “Rhubarb”. It appears to be in color family of raw rhubarb

  925. Here is a photo of a bunch of fresh rhubarb. The shade that runs from middle upward is what reminds me of your table color.
Sorry I didn’t add it in my suggestion above.
    Thx
    Rhonda

dusting off the sewing machines…

It’s been a minute since I had my sewing machines out.  I had to reacquaint myself with winding the bobbins and getting the needles properly threaded, but I slowly figured it out.  The funny thing is that I needed to wear reading glasses over my contacts to thread the needles
