Lamp Revamp

If you’re interested in my Furniture Feature Friday favorites and the winner, see the post below.

I’m baack! After 3 full days of working in the shop, I haven’t had a transformation to share with my readers and I finally got to one today. This one is super easy and a great way to transform a dated or blah lamp and shade.

This lamp started out at an old brass swing arm lamp that’s been sitting in the stash in my basement for a few years. It was time to give this guy a second chance.

The shade was a freebie from the woman who owns the shop that sells my stuff. It was nice, but the shiny fabric looked a little dated and stuffy to me.

I saw this large roll of hemp at Wal-Mart yesterday and knew it would be perfect for projects. It was $12.00, but should cover a lot of projects. I like the texture of it and the fact that it’s a little cleaner than twine.

All I did was use a glue gun to attach it to the shade. I wrapped it around in a tight pattern. You could do this with any kind of twine, yarn, even thin ribbon. I then spray painted the base in Krylon’s Oil Rubbed Bronze.
It now is updated and unique. One of the keys to a good lampshade is that it looks good with the light on or off. This one looks interesting either way. I think it would look great on a kitchen counter or hall table. If you have a lamp that needs a new look, this is a great option. All you need is the hemp ($12), a can of spray paint ($3), a glue gun, and about 30 minutes, depending on the size of your shade.

My kitchen counter is covered in some other projects, so make sure you check back for more inspiration!
