It was one of those days when I went to the studio, put my music on, and painted.  I love days like that.  I worked on a couple of pieces for the next MMS Milk Paint look book, but I was also playing around with a new milk paint color we’ll be adding to the line, soon (early 2016)…Farmhouse White.  It’ll get a proper “say hello to…” post closer to the release day, but I just couldn’t wait that long to share.

I tripped upon this color as I was getting ready for the market and wanted a white that covered better than Ironstone.  I loved it so much that I immediately sent an e-mail to my manufacturer, telling them we needed to add this new white to the line.

I had some mixed for some metal bins I’m painting, so I decided to brush it onto a table that’s been on my to-paint list for a while…

Here’s how the table looked before.  I bought it because of the marble top.

I had a piece of marble we used to use for photo shoots, but then I used that piece of marble for the workbench I rehabbed for Lucketts earlier this year.

So, I needed (maybe wanted is a better word, here) a new piece of marble to shoot on.  Marble is just a beautiful backdrop…

I knew I wanted to paint the base when I bought it, so it would be softer in pictures.  I didn’t want the dark wood competing with the products I’m shooting.

As I said in the opening, Farmhouse White covers better than Ironstone and it’s also a little warmer, but not as warm as linen and not as gray as Grain Sack.

I had to give Kriste credit for the name.  As I was working with it, I was brainstorming.  “I want to call it something like farmhouse sink or apron-front sink, but it seems a bit clumsy.”

She chimed in.  Not in a bratty way, but there was a this-should-be-obvious tone in her voice.  “What about Farmhouse White?”

Bingo.

I like how the marble is a different shade from the painted base.  It’s interesting to my design eye.

As always, I had a great time styling and photographing the shoot.

I’m going to miss that white shoe cart.  It’s been spoken for, but it’s probably a good thing or you all would get sick of looking at it!

Check back tomorrow morning for more detail on these metal trays as well as a giveaway for a set…

A fun little thing as I was opening the drawer to remove the hardware, I found a stack of old pictures inside…

This lady cracked me up.  Oh, the time she spent on that hair.

And there were several group pictures that were fun to examine…

…and this one just melted me.  The caps and shoes and those short little bangs!  So cute.

I got preoccupied and didn’t check the back for names.  Who knows?  Maybe I can find their family.  (Remember the WWI mail pouch I bought at a yard sale and returned to the family a couple of years later?  That was pretty special.)

See you tomorrow for the giveaway!

  1. I don’t think any of us would ever get tired of that shoe cart!!! So is that just one coat of farmhouse white? And I love how you can see the woodgrain on the drawer! Beautiful

  2. Will you be posting the metal bins that you painted Farmhouse White? I had asked you a while ago about paint for my metal 10 drawer office cabinet, so I would love to see them! (Yes, you did answer me, but I have not moved forward yet.) Thanks for your inspiration!

  3. Old abandoned photos always make me sad. I can’t imagine getting rid of that kind of history, even if I didn’t know who they were.
I hope you can find their family.

There can never be too many shades of white, it looks beautiful 🙂

  4. I agree Catherine Bell…they always make me kind of sad when I see old photos in flea markets and antique stores. Probably because I went to such great lengths to document and preserve my old family photos…back to the 1800s. I wonder sometimes who will become the “keeper of the photos” when I pass. Will they end up in a flea market or someone’s old desk drawer? Now that an old photo found in a flea market for $2 is estimated to be worth MILLIONS, hopefully people will take time to look at these old photos with a new eye and treasure them a bit more! Pictures of my great-greats are, IMO, priceless. BTW, love the new color! I do so much in “whites” because it is neutral and looks beautiful with the wood tops I always try to restore!

  5. Love to see some new peeks of this color! I, for one, love a good white and the contrast with the marble top is so pretty. I love a good marble-topped piece, too! Looking forward to hearing more about Farmhouse White and painting metal pieces with milk paint, too.

  6. As always, everything is styled so perfect! You do such a wonderful job! I have some pics of my mom and her brother that look like that little boy. Short bangs, chair, clothes. My mom is in her 80’s so that might be the era you are looking for.

  7. I can’t wait for Farmhouse White to become available ! Just the name grabbed me so great pick Kristie!

  8. These are so lovely! They would be fun to use to style throughout the house. You have some great ideas on how to use them. Thanks for the opportunity to win them!

  9. Those chunky soaps are beautiful. I used to make soaps when we owned our own home. Rental kitchen’s too small for that. Buying hand-made soap is one of my “guilty pleasures”.

  10. Speaking of colors, do you have any photos of furniture painted with curio? I looked in your portfolio tab, but couldn’t find anything. I need to paint something a rich brown and I’d like to do it in milk paint.

  11. Lovely, thanks for sharing. I look forward to your posts. I read them before bed and seriously I have sweet dreams of finding furniture and decorating and pretty paints! I’m out junking even in my sleep:)

  12. Beautiful paint! I’ve been watching all of the milk paint tutorials so that I can try it. I already have a stash of four colors! Just waiting on the right furniture find.

  13. Trays are wonderful and they would be great in my bathroom. Thanks for your work, I really like you painting techniques.
