When shopping for a retail space or event, I used to just buy whatever I liked and felt I could make a profit on. A few years ago, I learned that it was easier to focus my shopping/making/painting efforts around a loose theme. This year, in homage to our new MMS Milk Paint Color, the theme for Lucketts will be “Farmhouse White.”
Kriste and I have been developing the idea a little further, since it’s fairly generic (in the world of antique markets) and also not all that distinct from other booths I’ve done.
As we’ve talked through the theme, some more focused ideas floated to the top. Obviously we’re going to have lots of white and plenty of pieces that have a more humble, farmhouse feel. We want to balance that out with bucolic landscape scenes that we’re going to introduce to the space in a few different ways.
We’ll balance the white with lots of warm woods and texture along with some hints of colors.
You can start to see the direction in the pieces we bought and priced last week…
I found an awesome dry sink (that can be plumbed) for a great price, because the bottom is a little sketchy and needs to be reinforced. It’s a pretty easy fix and this piece is going to be a stunner!
And we’ve already started gathering and painting furniture. Get ready for lots of Farmhouse White milk paint on pieces…
you have such a great eye for selections and staging – I really enjoy looking at all of it – thanks!
I know you are showcasing Farmhouse White, but I’d love to see more in Tricycle. Maybe a barn red would go with your farmhouse! Red isn’t your thing, but it does look great with white!
Marian,
Please tell me you can sell me the blue mixing bowls now. I would love them! Please tell me the condition of each and how much each one is.

Those wooden clothespins you have used to hang the children’s gowns are beautiful. I’ve never seen pins like that. Did you get those recently, or have you used them before and I never noticed?
I always enjoy looking at your photography.
Those caught my eye, too! Very cool, and I’ve never seen anything like them either. Great display tools for vintage linens!
I have three of those and just learned what they are. They are wooden jar openers, but they make perfect clamps!
Maybe your husband could make reproductions of them in his shop?
you give me so much inspiration for my own home. I only wish i lived in the same country! then i could by everything i want from you 🙂
I always love seeing the pieces you buy and how you transform them. You inspire me on a daily basis and I love how your style has evolved. Your photos make me want to buy everything.

I love this! I would kill to re-do a farmhouse and my number one “wish list item” would be an old dry sink converted into a vanity. I love this rustic look and can’t wait to see all that you do with it!
Love seeing that hint of aqua in the mix, perfect for spring and my favorite accent color.
I’m a new reader and I think I’ve discovered something about you…. Miss Mustard Seed has a thing for wooden spoons!
Ahhh, Kriste is left-handed… and gets to wear slippers to work!
I so love your site. I have told so many people to look at it. You inspire me, Just wish I had our knack of decorating.
So wish you could come south to Tenn and help me.
Blessings, mems Bicking
What are dates you will be at Lucketts?
We’re really looking forward to Lucketts! AND I LOVE that dry sink!
Everything is so pretty & sweet!
I’ll be there! I had the best time last year, cannot wait to plan another trip! I love the idea of a theme for your space. It will be fabulous, as always!
Marian, I thought of you today when I found a lovely Spode creamer in blue and white (if course) at my local consignment shop. As I brought it home, I thought, “Marian would love this little treasure.” I wish Luckett’s were not so far away!
When is the market? Would really like to attend. Need to make plans now.
The dry sink is over the top AWESOME!!! The hardware is IT!!!
I am SO excited for the market! I’ve read your blog from nearly the beginning so now that I live close enough to actually go to Lucketts is a dream come true!
What fun! Please share with us the finished chest that Kirste is painting! I have a similar one and would love to see how it turns out.
Looking forward to Lucketts: Spring Market this year. The dry sink is awesome!
Everything looks wonderful! I’m uber excited to try the Farmhouse White! You had me at just two coats! ?
Marian,
The textiles are beautiful…I haven’t seen that from you. And by the way, the couch you are doing…fabulous. I would love to own it. I am coveting the sheets I bought from you. I want to save them for the perfect piece…Can’t wait until Luckett’s this year…planning on making the trip from NJ…
Happy V day…

Love the theme, easy to use in any home! On another note,,,can I ask where you order your hang tags from?? I am in great need of my own hang tags and I just can not seem to find what I am looking for!! Thanks
Marion, thank you for the link to “Finding the Quiet” from Jeanne Oliver. I’ve followed you and your story from the very beginning and rely on your authentic perspective. Since it’s Lent, I’ve decided to be intentionally mindful of the repercussions of my comments and conversation. Some advice given included the discipline of being completely still and quiet for short periods in the morning and evening so as to be able to be still and listen. Your mention of Jeanne Oliver’s video struck me that this might be time well spent, especially now. Plus being a new shopkeeper, your “Dear Reader” post was especially timely and has been read and re-read. How are you able to speak into our heads and hearts so well? Finally, a new business in town has begun to carry your paint so it can be purchased locally. All good. Peace on your day.
I love the old crocheted linens you have posted here. Are they for available?
If so can you email me a price on each.
I love all the lovely pieces that you are gathering for the spring sale. I think the square ironstone pieces are my favorites. Thank you for sharing the ideas for you booth. I know we will enjoy hearing more as the time for the event draws closer.
How fun! Those little dresses just melt my heart.
I think you could sell everything you buy for Lucketts online, except for the large pieces. Buy twice as much!
I would like to see colored painted pieces [not white] next to Farmhouse White to see how that works. Also, a little white always sets off color in flowers. So am curious if it works this way in furniture too.
Hi! I too am in love with those blue bowls. Can you give me info so I can hunt for similar ones for myself (no Lucketts trip for me…maybe one of these years!)? I’d also like to find myself something similar to the silver plated cup holder thingy (can’t recall what they’re called at the moment so that would be another piece of info I would like). Thanks in advance!
The blue bowls are antique salt-glazed pottery, which are pretty readily available in antique stores and on Etsy and eBay. I’m not 100% sure what the cup holder thingy was for! I think it had a clear glass liner in it at one point. It’s just one of those things that came be used for a variety of modern purposes and it’s pretty!
