controlling the chaos

Let me tell you, it’s wonderful working from home and being my own boss, but it really stinks when my home becomes a storage unit/staging area/photography studio.  The story of my house the past couple of weeks has been boxes.  They are taking over the front of the house!

Plus I had a table…

…and couple of mirrors hanging around where they didn’t belong.

So, yesterday, I took some time to get things under control.  All of the boxes are in a neat stack that’s out of the way until all 23 of them are picked up Monday by the UPS guy.  (Yeah, poor guy.)   My husband took the table to the thrift store…(I know, don’t hate me!)…and we carried things to the basement to be stored until I fix them up to sell.  I then took some time today between the e-mailing and article writing and video editing to work on my home.

Poor Eulalie (my cow) has been leaning since I got her.  It was finally time to hang her properly.

And by hang her properly, I mean Duck tape the canvas into the frame and hang it on a couple of nails.  Works for me.  I hung an orphaned part of a dresser over it just because I wanted to.

And I’ve decided to keep these beautiful French chairs…

I received a message through Facebook, which I’m horrible about reading, but I happened to catch this one and someone was telling me her friend had a pair of French chairs for sale on Craig’s List.  Did I want them?  I practically leapt through the screen to tell her I wanted them and she had better not sell MY chairs to anyone else.  I sent everyone involved an e-mail letting them know I wanted them.  (I get a little enthusiastic about French furniture.  Excuse me.)  So, I ended up with them and I’m not parting with them anytime soon.

The sweet woman who sold them to me apologized for the painted finish on them and said she was even embarrassed for me to see her DIY efforts.  Well, she would be pleased to know that I am keeping them this color.  I love the inconsistencies in the finish and the grayish-black works in my space.  I just need to reupholster them.

I also played around a little bit with the space over my piano.  Eulalie used to lean there, so now it was just a door.  I gathered things from around the house until I liked it.

It’s amazing what it does for my stress levels when I take a few minutes to work on my home and control the chaos.  Decorating is very therapeutic.  Can I get an amen?

the notesbooks on my desk

I take a hybrid approach when it comes to running my life and organizing my thoughts.  I like paper, pencils, and pens for writing down ideas, planning, and managing my day.  While old-fashioned notebooks are my preference for most things, I rely heavily on a digital calendar and reminder alarms
