I’m not a scrooge when it comes to Valentine’s Day, but to me, it’s just overpriced flowers and way too much candy for the kids. We make a point not to go out to dinner and we don’t exchange gifts or anything. It did happen to my husband’s day off work, so we spent it shopping at Home Depot and had a nice lunch at Olive Garden. Works for me.
Anyway, here are my favorites from last week.
The folks over at Living Vintage built this amazing mudroom that looks delightfully old and worn. I love that they celebrated the knotty wood and imperfections in the flooring. I think it looks amazing.
There’s a great tutorial on wet sanding over at For the Love of Wood that is definitely worth checking out. I’ll have to try this technique!
Lastly, I couldn’t help but share this lovely painted pie safe by Doodles & Stitches. The boards on the back stole my heart and I love the color.
Here are the rules for our furniture get-together…

gorgeous features Marian! I have occasionally use a wet scrub sponge to distress chalk paint too. Keeps the dust particles at bay but if you don’t wear a glove you’ll end up with a painted hand! :p

And, by the way, I totally agree with you about Valentine’s Day. My husband and I usually spend extra quality time together and we usually eat lunch or dinner together somewhere. That’s about it, which is just fine by us.

Marian – just a note about the wet sanding. It’s a technique I use often. BUT if you’re going to use this technique on a milk paint piece, be sure to wait until the paint is pretty well set. The “milk” really comes to the surface when wet (if not completely set) and you will have such a heavy milk haze to remove that it becomes problematic. Otherwise, it works great!! And is a very realistic distressing technique. BTW – I could not LOVE your bedroom makeover more! It’s perfect!!!

I always love your party Marian! I still haven’t gotten around to trying your paint, but I really want to. I like the way it distresses. I am trying to juggle many things, and am truly impressed with how you do it.
Oh I agree about Valentine’s day Marian. We totally avoid restaurants that night. And I’m surrounded by way too much candy, as I gave up sweets for Lent!

He spent the day at the World Ag Expo…and my girls and I painted furniture and visited friends ho just had twin girls. We all had dinner together at home…I just LOVE my little family!

In most of the pictures shared today, was there a bonding agent used in the mix. They all appear to be very smooth and no chippy look? i often get confuse when looking a pictures using the milk paint when all properties aren’t mentioned. Thanks

I also use the technique of wet sanding when I use two very contrasting colors and I want to see the color underneath (I don’t wait too long before sanding). I use the two sides of the sponge depending the effect I want.

I have to find a dealer close to me so I can try Miss Mustard Seed. I love all the projects I see, but there isn’t anywhere close by to purchase the paint.
