some updates

Aw, my boys are getting so big. They went off for their first day of full-day school today. My four year old is in pre-k five days and my three year old will attend two days a week.  It’s a change that’s going to take some getting used to, but I will have so much more time for work, so that’s exciting.
This post today is a bit of a mixed bag.  I’ve been working on a lot of different things and nothing is done, so I’ll just show you where I am with it all.  First, some pretty shots.  I bought some dried hydrangeas (my favorite flower) and this great chippy table the last time I was at Lucketts.

Isn’t that paint divine?
The big project of the day was continuing the office purge.  Mini Mustard Seed and I consolidated three wire racks of stuff down to one.  (The stuff sitting on the right hand shelf I’m selling or using in the “new” office.)
The stuff on this wire shelf is what I am keeping in the space.

…and we made much better use of the closet.  That Mini Mustard Seed is a task master when it comes to purging.  She’s no joke.

And, it isn’t pretty in my half bath, yet, but we have a toilet AND a seat!  It doesn’t take much to make me happy.   (Notice that cute little laundry cart in there?  Hmmm…more on that another day.)

And lastly, I worked on a tutorial and photo shoot for the December issue of Cottages and Bungalows.  Here’s a peek…

I told you it was a mixed bag, but some days are like that.

  1. oh goodness, I can't wait to hear more on the wire laundry basket – I saw one nearly identical to this in a magazine and fell in LOVE!

  2. I need to get my hands on a Mini Miss Mustard Seed. Of course, I'd have to rename her. Love your prioress and that blue table is AMAZING!

  3. I enjoy your blog posts – even when they are just little bits of this or that 🙂
Would love to know a little more info about the "I love you to the moon and back" Nutbrown Hare mural I see peeking out from behind those wire shelves. That is such a great little story!

  4. If people still swoon, I think I did over that table. The color is most awesome. When you're done with that Mini Mustard Seed, I sure could use her! Looks good! To borrow Sarah @ Thrifty Decor Chick's word, 'de-crapification' takes a while! ;O)

  5. Busy Bees!
A day of organizing is like opening the windows after weeks of having the A/C on; just gives me a needed boost.

  6. Great job! I think I need to a mini-me to help 'git er done.' Crushing on that little laundry cart.
Hope your little ones have a great 1st day at school.

  7. Love the dried hydrangeas. I have them growing in my front garden. With all the rain lately they are now huge and beautiful.

The laundry cart is so cool!

The bathroom looks like mine. I can't wait to see what you do.

  8. Everyday is like that for me always have so many things going & I am so unorganized! Love the laundry cart & its so good to know that other people have home improvement projects in progress but not finished it stays that way around here. :0

  9. Nice work on the organisation Marian! Is Miss Mini Mustard Seed available for hire?! 'Cause my husband has a clothes closet that needs her services! Hahaha What's wrong with your bathroom? All I see is that gorgeous laundry basket sitting there, taunting me. I have searched forever to find something similar but with no luck. 🙁 I gave up on that idea and decided a woven basket sitting on an antique luggage rack would work just as good. It's such a sweet luggage rack too – dark wood with tapestry straps with the original owners initials and date on it! I absolutely love it!

    Enjoy your wire beauty!

    Signed,
    Envious

  10. Marian, I love your "mix bag". I know if feels like some days you don't get much done, but trust me, you do! Your office is gonna be great!

And, congrats on your little ones in school 🙂 (Banchees, isn't that you call them). My only child graduated high school this year (2011) and moved back East to pick out a collage to go to. Now THAT makes me feel old.

Have a wonderful day, Miss Mustard Seed 😀

  11. Tell me that pink tile is plastic! I had the exact same look in my upstairs bath, yellowed concrete like grout stuff and all. My house was built in 1940 and the more I see of yours the more they have in common. I share your love of Hydrangeas and can't wait to add more to my own supply in the garden. Love the laundry cart too.

  12. You have some SERIOUS stuff in your closet! =) I can't wait until you dish on that adorable laundry cart in the bathroom!!!

  13. I saw your comment on twitter today about your continued cough. Three words: hot lemon water. Ok, one more word: sleep.

Remodeling an old house (I, too, have 40's tile like yours) can be tough on your lungs. I developed a form of asthma after some very dusty renovations…and ignored it until I ended up in ER.

I'm just a lurker on your blog, but your work is lovely and inspiring. Get healthy, then work on the new things.

p.s. Love Cottages and Bungalows…have all copies except 4. Looking forward to your feature.

  14. What is the name of the blue paint under the hydrangeas? I'm guessing it's not straight paint. Can I find it in your blog history that I could refer to when u did the project? I agree, it's divine! I'm looking for inspiration for my 18m old daughter's room for some furniture. Thanks for your help and fabulous blog. jenandlawrence@shaw.ca

  15. I have to say that I see the most unique items on your blog posts. I didn't know anything about laundry carts and now I want one for my vintage laundry room that's….like your bathroom, awaiting it's finished remodel.

I wish I had closets that were more purposeful than they are. I could use some storage and organization myself. A mini MMS would be helpful too.

  16. just wanted to say hi … and say thank you for all the inspiration on your blog. It has been very helpful and motivating . I finally even finished redoing my dinning table. You have inspired me to redo my whole dinning room. 🙂
