the rest of the photo shoot

When I do a photo shoot for Cottages and Bungalows or HGTV.com, I take LOTS of shots.  I not only get the “beauty shots” that I think my editors want, but I take closeups and some other pictures that are just for me.  I just can’t help myself.  So, here are some of the rest of the photos I took during my shoot for the October issue of Cottages and Bungalows, which is available on newsstands now.

The shot above actually made it on the contents page of the magazine, but it was cropped.  This was definitely my favorite photo shoot so far.
I’m off to go to bed early again tonight.  I’m still dragging a bit, but we had a low key day and I’m hoping a good night sleep will give me the “reboot” I need!

  1. I picked up my copy of Cottages & Bungalows just the other day. The minute I opened it I recognized your room. I can't imagine the feeling of seeing your home in a magazine. Pretty cool. Sometime would you share the insides of your corner cabinets? I have a lovely pair myself and sometimes struggle with arranging things in the triangles! I just painted the inside of them and switched out the wood shelves for glass. It has helped lighten them up. Rest up. Happy Labor Day.

  2. Great photos! I love setting up these shots and photographing them too. It's also a great way to get to know your camera better by experimenting with shutter speed settings, etc.

  3. I recognized your dining room right away when I opened up my C&B; mag, Marian! So very beautiful! Congrats on the photo shoot and feature! You are such a rock star, girl! 🙂 May I ask you what you use to clean your brushes after waxing your furniture?? I've just been using cheap brushes and throwing them away…. Thanks, my friend! 🙂

  4. Lovely shots. I want this room-the color, the white, the furniture, the light, the window treatments, the floor, ETC.
Tell us about the runners-I see a bit of a monogram. Are the feed sacks?
Let me go look for a C&B; in New Zealand. Had a subscription when we lived in SouthCarolina. MBF is keeping them till we go back.

  5. Yes! These would be the shots I'd want to see! You are just plain good – with refinishing furniture, making a beautiful home and snapping photos!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

  6. I went camera shopping today and am eager to make a decision so I can embark on creating stories via photos like you and many other bloggy friends. I love the close up shots above. I am partial to detail.

  7. Did you go to college for decorating, or is it a natural thing? I really love your taste, the way you display things, your shots. Just so pretty. Also, what does the outside of your house look like. Maybe you want that to be private, but I find myself wondering if you live in a development or is it an old house? Is it a ranch? Just curious. 🙂

  8. Hi, Marian! Your photos are lovely, as always. Wanted to let you know that I will be praying for you today and hope you're feeling great very soon. Mary

  9. Amazing photography and styling, it looks as if the pear if floating on the napkin1 The pictures make it so you can almost feel the texture of the items weather it be furniture or food or curtains. I love the way you almost feel you are in the room by the story your photography tells. Beautiful work!

  10. ok awesome as usual. amazing actually. but are you watching the new season of design star?!?!? I find it so underwhelming after looking at creative blogs like yours. I mean the last winner of the last episode is saw was because she hollowed out some cabbages and set them in the center of her dining room table….are you kidding me? you have delicate pears and amazing flour sack table runners and GORGEOUS drapes..not some cabbage with white wax dripped down the side…I know you shoot for HGTV but good gravy could you be on the selection committee for the contestants…I mean where's the inspiration?!? Pick more people like yourself….really talented!

  11. So pretty Marian!
I love the fabric on your window treatments and the touches of blue here and there. Those grain sacks look smashing as runners across the table.
    Congrats on the publicity!
Can't wait to see it in print.
    🙂

Will you be at the Junk Bonanza?

  12. You always have such beautiful indoor shots! I was wondering how you do it? Is there a certain way to take pictures facing the window so that the picture doesnt turn out dark? I have wanted to know for a long time!
    Thanks! Shannon*~
