I wanted to share a few more of my Gold Rush finds today. One of them is so simple, but it’s one of my favorite finds of the day. While I was touring the old schoolhouse/music hall, I found a stack of statement pads. The top one had been nibbled at and was in poor condition, but the rest were relatively protected under the top pad and partially wrapped in paper. I pulled out the stack and there were seven statement pads.
What caught my attention is that they were for the Artist’s Guild in Rochester, MN. How cool is that? So, I grabbed four pads for myself and pointed out the three remaining to Cheri in case she wanted them. (She did.)
I’ve basically been using them as a large notepad, writing down quick to-dos and notes. I mean, if you’re going to jot down a note, why not jot it on a vintage Artist’s Guild statement?
I also found an architect/engineer’s drafting set. I was able to get it for $10! I’ve seen similar ones listed for 4-8 times that and this one looked almost new.
It has one missing tool, but it’s otherwise a complete set. Again, if you’re going to draw a circle, why not draw one with a really cool vintage tool?! Now, I need to figure out how to use all of these…
And, I didn’t make it through the day without buying one piece of ironstone. I picked up a pitcher. It has some pretty nasty sticker residue, but I’ll clean it up with some Goo Gone and it’ll join my collection.
Next time I go antiquing, it’ll be at the Lucca Flea Market! I feel like Gold Rush was a good warmup for that!

My oldest has a drafting set from his grandfather who worked at an electrical engineering company. It’s in a beautiful blue velvet lined case and was made in Germany. He is in his junior year at college studying civil engineering. Thanks for sharing your finds. I particularly love all the vintage art/office supplies. It is much more fun to use.
I just love flea markets. I would love to be able to go with you in your pocket to Lucca! I can’t wait to see what you find!

That is a very cool drafting set. I used to use them back in the day before computers, when everything was drawn by hand. You’ve probably figured out where the liquid ink goes in some of them. 🙂
No, I didn’t know that, but I will definitely check that out! I noticed a few of them hold pencil leads.
If I were you, I’d use your Arts’ Guild pad for when you sell your art. THEN in doing so, you can share those with others who think they are pretty cool too, as well as enjoy them yourself! Win, win!

The ruling pen in your new set can be used for applying maskit on your watercolor paintings to preserve white areas of the paper. Use a liquidy maskit like the brand Pebo or Winsor Newton.
The ruling pen makes wonderful fine lines.
It is possible to make a PDF of the Artists Guild tablet if you have an IPad .
