It’s been a long time, but I finally painted another red piece…
…and it makes me wonder why I don’t do it more often! This piece really wears red well.
Here is how it started…
It wasn’t bad at all, but the finish was a little tired and a refresh felt in order.
I painted it in two coat of Tricycle and finished it with one coat of Antiquing Wax. You can see how I applied the Antiquing Wax HERE.
The color is definitely an attention-grabber, but it’s the hardware that is the real star of this piece and I love how the red sets it off.
If you look closely, you’ll notice that one of the handles was replaced at some point, but I sort of like the show of ingenuity. That’s something my Opa would’ve done. Mixed this piece with that to fix a broken handle.
I had this vintage French flag in my prop stash for a while, waiting for the right piece to show it off.
Yes, I was humming songs from Les Miserables while I was hanging it. “Do you hear the people sing? Singing the songs of angry men. They are the music of a people…”
Since the dresser and the flag were so bold, I styled it simply with a glass jar and some branches from my snowball bush.

I love you kept the handle that is different. I have to admit I had to go back and study the pictures to find the different one. Would not have even noticed if you had not mentioned it in the description. The red color makes the dresser a show stopper.
I love red furniture, especially tricycle red. I wish I could use it more often but sadly red is just not a favorite in my area.

Lovely. The dresser just came out GREAT but…..ever since I read that you paint with the drawers in,
something just doesn’t sit right with me. I can see distressing with the drawers in, to even it out,
BUT painting??? Professional results need the edges to be professional.
It is beautiful…LOVE the red……..I want to see how those edges come out with your method.
AND I am a huge fan….just curious.
Actually, painting with the drawers in keeps the sides of the drawers neater, in my experience. When I distress the paint, I will sand the edges to tidy them up.

Hmm sign me up I am not a huge trend person and my tastes have really changed over the yrs. today I like clean but rustic eclectic and repurposed. Weird I know and my husband doesn’t care about how things look only if it’s comfortable and functional. Not being wealthy I have had to make do with what I have. My problem is with editing I really suck at that.
How do you decide on fabric? What was it about this settee that said to you “gray linen?”
