I’ve never been one to collect original art. I would love to own an original oil painting, but they’re expensive and I’ve never found one I love enough to splurge on. For a long time, I’ve had this picture in my inspiration file.
(Home of Leah Anderson, photographed by Isabel Lang)
What always caught my eye was the soft colors of the cow painting. I’ve looked around for something similar, but…no luck.
Not finding what I wanted (and Leah’s prints are a bit out of my budget), I turned to the most talented artist I know, Laura Dreyer. She is the one who designed my logo, business cards, and illustrated graphics…while in college! She’s crazy talented and so I commissioned her to paint a cow for me. I asked her to use the colors and softness of this painting as her inspiration, but to make it her own.
I can’t wait to see what she creates for me…

Love the logo! I look forward to seeing what she creates:)
Those colors are beautiful. You will officially be hooked on original art after you get your new painting. Prepare your wallet for your new preference!

This is totally random, but your title of your post reminded me of a Toddlers and Tiaras (don't judge!) episode where this five year old wanted to win so bad and she wanted to use her prize money to buy a cow. When she won, she got her money and asked her mom "so can I buy my cow now?!". It was really funny.
Looking forward to seeing your painting!
Oh…I love that cow painting too!
I think I saw this on My Sweet Savannahs blog…she was lusting over the cow pic also having someone paint one for you is brilliant.
Hi, this picture is of my friend Leah Anderson's home and the cow painting in question is one she painted herself. I'm not sure, but I think the picture was taken by my good friend and partner in crime, Isabel Lang (www.isabellang.blogspot.com) Her blog is Maison Douce and she has taken many lovely pictures of Leah's home. On an added note, Leah's beach home was featured in the latest issue of Flea Market Style Magazine. Just thought you might like to know. Love your blog!

Lisa

Well 6 degrees of separation strikes again! I see that you now know exactly where the original painting hangs…and the artist! Small world. I look forward to seeing your painting. Cherry Kay
Oh for a minute there I thought you wanted a real cow, and I was going to aay that our neighbor's cattle wondered over to our house a few days ago, and you are welcome to come get them, but now I see what you mean. Hee hee. I was wondering who did your lovely logo. Can't wait to see the new artwork.
ooooh… I didnt even know I wanted a cow. That is a gorgeous painting!
I agree with Megan- I didn't know I wanted a cow, but now suddenly I do! That is lovely- now I'm off to learn more about Leah Anderson.
I look forward to seeing your cow!

I don't usually like cows much but I do love that one! The source is Leah Anderson (http://artbyleah.com/) and her home was featured in Flea Market Style mag, as well as recently featured on My Sweet Savannah. I hope you get your cow : )

Oh how fun! A cow in your living room. Well it fits! Did you tell her to make it a German/ Austrian cow? You know with a bell around its neck on an Alp somewhere? I remember 'meeting' a lot of those cows while hiking up the mountain as a kid, on vacation with my parents. They always seemed to hang out at those little turn-around gates in the meadows.
🙂 Who wouldn't want a cow like that,I want a cow too. It look great with the white wall and other furniture. The vintage clock, i heart it. outsourcing company
i was so excited clciking through to your post as I want a real cow and i thought wow another thing i have in common with Marian! My kids tell everyone that "we have 4 chooks, a guinea pig and a dog but mummy wants a cow" which draws hilarious looks especially as we're on a small inner city block. looking forward to seeing your painting.
cheers Fiona

I'm not exactly sure where I saw this painting before, but it also caught my eye immediately. I can't wait to see the piece your friend is painting for you.

Love the cow. Does Laura have a website? I would like to see more of her creations!
Love the cow too, lucky you! I love talented friends!

I took these pictures at my friend Leah's home in Lake Oswego, Oregon!!!!!! Her home is an absolute treat and remains one of my most visited posts to date… She makes giclee prints out of that painting, so anyone can own it!!
Isabel
Can't wait to see it!
I'll paint you a cow… !
take a look at my paintings website under animals and you'll see several cows, some commissioned some just for fun. Moonalisa (the black and white cow) is my favorite and she is available in a giclee print. I could also paint you a white cow if you like and for a great price! It would be wonderful publicity!

Oops! i just read the part where your friend is painting you one… that's great! I'm sure it will be wonderful…

Laura does do great work. Love your logo and website. It's always a pleasure to see the page load and see what you are up to.
Looking forward to seeing her version of the cow painting.
You can find lots of original art in antique stores and garage sales. I have bought a lot of mine on ebay, but the prices are a lot higher now. Every time you do an outdoor show, treat yourself. You don't have to know anything. If it smiles at you, and the price is in your budget, buy it. Winsor Newton makes a really good oil paint cleaner, so really disgusting junky things can be cleaned up really well. You can also use the bargains you find, but don't want to keep, in your booth. Love the cow, and isn't it funny, someone knows the house? Ann
That is a beautiful painting, I can see why you keep it in your inspiration file, I love to paint, I'm not an artist but I try, I have painted a cow before but not on those tones. You should check out http://www.bonniemohrstudio.com/, she paints the most beautiful cows ever.
Have a wonderful day!
XXXX Ido @ ARCE French of Heart
I can't wait to see what she creates neither! Patty/BC
I have several similar cow paintings on my blog if you have time to look. http://www.clustres.blogspot.com
It really isn't your average painting of a cow. It really has something peaceful and calming in it, along with being really right for your preferred colors of choice.
Your commissioned art can only be equally as smashing as those designs already accomplished by your artist.
Very nice.
Rose
That is so exciting! I have always loved that painting. Can't wait to see your friend's finished piece.
Inspired by an Esty shop that makes handles/knobs with decoupaged art on them I was at the antique shop looking at kids books and found a lovely book, a story of a farm, and each chapter was about an animal, and began with a lovely painting [chalk maybe] of the animal. I was really tempted to buy it for the art to copy and frame….
Also check out my cows that I keep in my kitchen:

What is it about cows??!! I have been wanting a painting of a cow for a long time….a French white cow in a field. Can't wait to see your painting. Linda
Love the inspiration picture and I can relate to wanting a bovine picture. (grew up on a farm and just had to use the word bovine!) I have vintage oil paintings of still life fruit which I love but I've always wanted some sort of pastoral setting with a cow or a sheep. I see lots of cows in the fields here in Wisconsin and was just thinking that the other day!
I love cows, too. Such sweet, gentle things (sometimes) and they are beautiful in pastoral paintings!
Your blog looks gorgeous! I hadn't been here in a while and love the new look! The beadboard background is wonderful, too!
I love it! Have you seen the ones that are up close to the cow's face? SO FUN! Can't wait to see it.
There is a really nice gal on Etsy who has some great cow paintings, I've purchased several original paintings from her and they are terrific. Her name is Cheri Wollenberg: http://www.etsy.com/people/ChatterBoxArt?ref=ls_profile
She also offers canvas giclee reproductions of her own work and I saw at least one in the soft colors you featured above.
Check out my latest post if you have time, I have a wonderful cow that my mom commissioned by an artist Mark English, it hangs over the mantel too.
I just snapped the photos and called dibs on it.
