photo shoot, a fever & finds

We had less than half of the trim completed in the family room and I had a photo shoot coming up, so today, Jeff and I were determined to finish it.  Part of it was the deadline, but another part of it was putting ourselves out of our miserly.  Having a half-finished DIY project hanging over your head gets old.

So, today we worked on getting it done.  I woke up with a stuffy head and I was dragging, so I opted to give myself a day off of my workout and I dove into caulking and priming.

This project took so much longer than I expected and at 1:30, I was just starting to paint the trim.

Cari was here for the day to help get ready for Lucketts.  Cari will henceforth be known as “the machine.”  She’s amazing.  She spent most of her time prepping four pieces to paint and was about to start deconstructing a chair, but I called her to come help me with painting the trim.  She willingly jumped in and was a huge help.  Towards the end, I started  to have to give pep talks to myself.  “You can do it, Marian.  One section at a time.  Just a little more to go…”  Jeff stepped in and finished it for me, which was awesome and really big, because he does not love painting the way I do.

I had handbell practice again tonight, so I went to that and knew while I was there that I had a fever.  Sure enough…I took my temp when I got home and I did.  I’m trying to clear my schedule, so I can be in bed tomorrow if needed.  I feel a Netflix marathon coming on…

If I do feel well enough, I need to do some photo shoots and get the things unpacked that I bought last Thursday.  It’s currently a big mess in my living room.   I found some great stuff, though!

I love that market basket and may be keeping it for photo shoots.

I also found some great ironstone, wooden totes, architectural pieces, a little (working) fan, antique grain scale with weights…it was a productive shopping day for sure.

Now, you’ll have to excuse me as I sign off and take a shot of Nyquil.

  1. I did board and batten in my living room last year. That project drug on for about 4 months. It’s a really big room and all that caulking is just so tedious. I also tend to be a little anal about all of those joints being perfect smooth. It was worth it though because it really does look nice. I hope you are feeling better soon!

  2. Marion, start eating cultured veggies. They are full of probiotics and you will not be dealing with sickness or run down feelings anymore. Your body will be armed with armies of soldiers fighting on your behalf. I know this, because I went from taking 28 pills a day, to zero! I don’t get sick, and I make my own veggies now. With all you have going, this is the best way to stay healthy. Google them and see what I’m talking about. If you want more information on how to make them..email me. I’ll fill ya in. Pam

  3. This must be the time of year to get sick. I went to bed last night feeling okay, but woke up this morning with a scratchy throat and a stuffed up runny nose. I admire you for being able to work even though you were miserable. Feel better soon.

    Oh! the painting looks great!

  4. Love the wooden rack. It’s a shoe rack? Would also be interested in something like this. Wonder if it is too wide for the spot I have in mind. What color is the paint in your room? I wish I could make the trip to Lucketts but may be too far from Central Michigan.

  5. Did you just nail the boards to drywall without any paneling behind it?
I want to attempt this but was trying to cut down on the wood cost.

  6. Ohhhh… love the basket, keep the basket for sure. Hope you feel better soon too. I know it takes alot to slow you down, but a Netflix marathon sounds kinda fun, and having a cold is a great excuse for having a Netflix sit in!

  7. Really love your style! So sorry you are feeling poorly. Handbells used to make it all better for me! Rest up, girl!

  8. I am sooo in love with that blue scale! I want!! Will you be putting it on the website or keeping it for Lucketts?

  9. Omigoodness! You know what made me shudder?? Seeing that pic of your husband painting the trim — with the UNcovered new leather couch right behind him!!! I could NEVER paint like that…paint just seems to splatter everywhere when I’m wielding a brush or roller! Good luck to both you (feel better!) and to your new couch! 😉

  10. Great buys. Love your trim work. After so much toil you deserve a break. Hope you feel better soon!

  11. I love the trim. Wonderful job. It is hard to work especially when you do not feel well. Often there is nothing can stop us unless we see that project finished. I applaud you for having a goal and achieving it on time no matter what. But at the same time, follow the above advise of eating healthy. In the end we are what we eat.:)

  12. Marian I hope you are feeling better! The trim ~ the whole room looks wonderful…really great job! Do you mind sharing what color paint you used on the walls and the trim?
    Thank you!!!

  13. Geez, Marian, what a work horse you are! Please get well…take care of your body…and enjoy a Netflix marathon! I hear House of Cards is excellent!

  14. It’s never a good time to be sick. Hope you can bounce back quickly!

Ginger tea with a little honey has always helped me kick things a bit faster.

    Get well soon!

  15. A tad disappointed seeing all the amazing things you’ll be selling at Lucketts since I won’t be able to go this year. The baby’s due right around then so whether he is or isn’t here yet I think it’d be a bad idea to go! That blue scale is amazing and so is the wood rack on casters.

  16. Enjoy your day in bed even though you do not feel well! You are inspiring me to paint our living area. Now to choose the color?! That will be the fun part.

  17. Sorry to hear you’re not feeling well! I totally related when you said its miserable to have projects hanging over your head. We have been doing a lot of projects over the winter, and due to various sinus infections and viruses, we had a lot of “loose ends” that made us feel like all these things weren’t finished, despite so much work. New curtains that were up but needed hemming, new baseboard that needed paint, the celining in the kitchen that needed paiting after removing cabinets. So, this weekend we mad a list and barrelled through it to wrap things up. We only have two loose ends left, and I feel so much better! Especially since we’re starting a new project this weekend -re-tiling the front entry! Prsying for your quick recovery!

  18. Do take the day off and stay in bed! A week ago I started with the fever and I still feel poorly because instead of going to bed, as soon as the kids go down, I paint trim! My husband put board and batten down the stairs and through most of our finished basement and it is beautiful….but tedious! It’s a nice arm workout, but my knees are killing me. Anyway, I hope you take a day off and nip this fever in the bud.

Also, are you taking the shoe rack to Luckett’s? If it’s for sale, when you’re feeling better, please send me an email if it isn’t spoken for already. Thanks and get better!

  19. Your posts always make me feel better 🙂 Today I was painting a hutch (distressed black) for a friend, and by late afternoon was tired of the tedious-ness of the process! (Black paint makes it so hard to see into the corners to make sure the brush strokes look nice. Not my favorite thing!) It was nice to hear that another painting friend was having to push through today! Hope you feel better soon!

  20. Hope you feel better soon, Marian… and I hope what you are heaving is not flu. It’s never fun being sick.

On a different note, I can’t wait to see what your living room looks like now that the wainscoting is finished. Sounds like you had some great helpers there, and I am sure the project turned out beautifully.

  21. Hope you are feeling better soon!

I love the character your moulding has given the space. It really fits your aesthetic. Great job!

Love your little drop leaf table too. Will you be doing something to it or leaving it as is? Either way it is really nice!

  22. Hi Marian, It’s looking fabulous! The end result is so worth it! Would you mind sharing if and where you purchased the solid white curtains? Hope you get to feeling better soon!
