My love of Card Room Green started when we first moved to Minnesota. I had a Farrow & Ball paint deck as part of my paint deck stash, and while I would occasionally pull it out to look for a particular color, I had never used their paint or one of their colors in my home. If you were reading my blog when I first shared our house in Minnesota, you might remember that it was a celebration of beige and dingy off-whites. Think Ace bandages, pinky beiges that aren’t very appealing. The front door was particularly sad, and I decided to paint it just a few weeks after we moved in. I bought out all of my paint decks, looking for a color that would play well with the pinkish-beige siding. Since green is a complementary color of red/pink, I focused on the greens and pretty quickly settled on Card Room Green.

It looked so good that I decided to paint the bench on the porch as well. It was the perfect color for the exterior of this house.

When we bought our home in Maryland, it already had a strong green color palette both inside and out. The green worked well on the exterior with the pinkish brick, and green seems to suit the inside of the house just as well.

So, I decided to follow the previous owner’s lead. Of course, I turned back to my favorite green – Card Room Green by Farrow & Ball. For me, it’s a green that has just the perfect balance of blue and yellow. Since we don’t have a local Farrow & Ball dealer, I order my paint through Dreamy Whites. They carry the full range, including sample pots, so I can always test out colors before committing
I’ve used Card Room Green on the shutters, front door, and garden structures…

We used it in our living room on the beams, built-ins, trim, and fireplace.

…and I’ve used it on the doors in the kitchen. (You can read about our kitchen HERE.)

It’s become one of my most frequently asked questions as I’ve shared our progress on our home. “What is that wonderful green?!”

And there is more Card Room Green in my future. I’m already planning to paint the bench in the garden, and we’ll install more Card Room Green shutters along the back of the house.

For the exterior projects, I use the Exterior Eggshell and prime with an exterior bonding primer from Sherwin-Williams tinted to Card Room Green. It saves a little bit of money and helps with adhesion and coverage. So far, the paint has held up well on all surfaces, including wood, vinyl, and metal.
For the living room and interior doors, I use Estate Eggshell.

I love the color. I purchased a sample can from the manufacturer. I plan to use Card Room Green on my home when we paint. Almost any shade of green has always been my favorite color. Nature never gets a color wrong. Thank you for sharing this shade of green with me. Your home looks so good.
I really enjoy and learn so much from your blog! The before and afters of your home and garden makeovers are truly inspiring. In fact you leave everything just more lovely and beautiful and I find that such a pleasure in these troubled and chaotic times in which we live. Thank you for the beauty and inspiration. I truly love it.
Oh my goodness, love the colour and love the bench. Do you have a source for the bench? Your house is looking awesome. You must be so happy!
Here you go! https://bit.ly/3T8A1rl
Hello!
What brand did you use for your exterior shutters?
Thank you,
Becky
I used Farrow & Ball Exterior Eggshell
It is a truly remarkable green. I too absolutely love green inside and out.
Thank you! It’s beautiful!
It’s certainly a beautiful shade and it works great in your house. For me it’s Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog and Naval. I hope they never discontinue those colors.
I love what you’ve done with the new house, lots of challenges and it has been fabulous with every step! BUT I wish you would reconsider painting the rest of the hideous yellow-ish brick on the exterior. It would make such a HUGE difference and make your beautiful home look finished! I speak from experience on this🏠
If you ever paint your brick, look at Young House Love Richmond house. I never thought painting brick white
was a good idea, but in their case it really worked and made it beautiful.
In your case I thing the green you’re using really compliments the brick you have and really elevates the beauty of it.
On your outside bench it looks so light but everywhere else it looks dark so I think it changes depending on where you put it. I think it would be too dark for my little house. But it works for you. It looks beautiful on your front door.
Marian, while I love the Card Room Green, I’m wondering if you did anything to your brick?
In some photos it seems softer almost like a light lime wash was applied. This post was full of beautiful spots and inspiration to use color everywhere. It’s so inviting.
Although I’m not opposed to painting exterior brick; in my opinion, it has to be a really hideous original brick color to warrant paint. I like the color variations and depth in natural brick. Once brick has been painted it may look one-dimensional, and then there is the maintenance as weather causes painted brick to peel. “Card room green” tones your pinkish brick hues. I love the before and after pics. What a huge, huge difference. Your neighbors gotta love you guys!
