One thing that I love about what I do and being “the boss” is that I can (most of the time) chose to do the kind of work that suits my mood on any particular day.  Last Friday, I was in a get-out-of-the-studio mood, so I decided to do some more shopping for the upcoming Lucketts Spring Market (May 20-22, 2016.)

My mom and I set out for a newly opened store about 25 minutes away and hit another local shop on the way.  We ended up with a pretty nice haul!

I have been wanting to do more videos lately, but keep putting it off.  It’s hard for me to take pictures of everything after these big shopping trips, so a video is an easy way to share it with you and I can also talk through my thought process for why I buy what I buy…

My hair is in pretty major need of a cut & color, so that’s what the little hair-knots are about!

Anyway, as I shared at the end of the video, I found another barrel scale!  The one I have is on hold for a Lucketts shopper already, so I decided it was a good move to get another one.  This one is less ornate than the first one I bought, but it has these pretty mirrors and a great shape.  It does need a new piece of glass for the base, but I’m having one custom cut.

Here are a few other things I found that were hard to see in the video…

I also received a few things I ordered online, like this sweet basket for the blue Schwinn…

I’m going to put a little plant or some flowers in it for the market.

I also got in a shipment of boxwood wreaths.  I didn’t bring them last year, but they always sell really well, so I decided to bring them back.

Since we’re done with the painted furniture, Kriste’s been working on some little fillers for bowls and cloches.  We have some little plants, which I’m putting inside cloches over layers of small ironstone plates…

…but we have a lot of cloches, so Kriste made some paper rolls…

…and also some rag balls with sewing scraps…

Up next is sewing (we have pillows to make and two chairs to slipcover) and then a big, special project that will be the focal point of the booth…

I don’t even know how you can sell the bike. Especially with the perfect basket! Joy should take it for her plant shelf. Be still my heart.

      Hello Marian,
Would you consider selling me the plain (no writing) white ribbed small shaker, with the zinc top. I have one and need a mate. Since it’s a “small” I hope you’ll consider it.
      Thank you!

Funny how popular things are regionally. I buy milk class spice sets and salt wells and refrigerator dishes and ironstone ALL the time at auctions…all are relatively slow sellers around here. I recently bought a “spice set” in milk glass…salt, pepper, flour, sugar…white with blue writing and zinc lids. My 18 year old daughter is the one who actually snatched them out of the “flea pile.” Exchanged them for the white with red zinc lid set I had put back for her. Beautiful “smalls” but they do sit for awhile around here. As far as ironstone, it has not “hit big” in our area so I have started keeping a lot of it. My daughter will take an entire dish set to her new apartment and I have several cream and sugar sets and several pitchers. Just waiting for your influence to filter her 😉

Where did you get the basket for the bike? I have a cruiser bike and I’ve been looking for a new basket for it.
      Thank you!

I want to do what you do 🙂 Everything looks gorgeous!

Drooling from the west coast. So wish I could join you for the Lucketts sale!

    7. Michelle

I really wish I could go to Lucketts this year and shop your booth. You have found some really sweet stuff and your makeovers are amazing. I love the bike and the basket. I also think the christening gowns are so sweet. I have my mothers and I have it hanging in the hall of our bedroom. It has the tinniest little arm holes and the buttons are no bigger than a pin head. I was told that my arms were to big and couldn’t wear the gown.
I know you don’t like to give away all of your spots for shopping but would you share where the new store is?

For the first time ever I found a similar scale yesterday that is also missing its glass tray. Living at my house so I will find a replacement for the tray too. I am looking forward to seeing it in my kitchen every day! Love your makeovers and the treasures you are taking to market! Another west coast person here wishing to live closer…

Hey I saw that you found a similar scale. If u don’t mind me asking how much was it going for? I found one here in michigan and they are asking $450! I don’t know if that’s average or too much or a steal. I hope to hear from you!

      Hi Marian,
I live near Philadelphia and I’m looking for new antique stores to try. Could you recommend some of your favorites near you or that you have visited in the tri-state area? Thanks! Everything you have for Lucketts looks so beautiful! I hope one day that I can go to Lucketts. It is definitely on my bucket list.

      Hi Marian,

I also live in Philadelphia and am looking for some new antique stores to shop at. I have a car and will travel. Thanks for any recommendations you can offer. I love all of the purchases you shared today. I hope to be able to visit your booth at Lucketts next month.

      Cheers!

Another great video. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge and experience. I wish I lived closer – but maybe that’s a good thing. I think I’d want to buy just about everything going into your Luckett’s booth!

    19. DD

Others have probably asked, but can we buy if we can’t make it to the market?

    20. Kathleen Kelly

Marian, would it be possible for me to buy the milk glass “pepper” (in black script) shaker? I have the salt shaker, which belonged to my grandmother, on my antique stove. I assume the pepper got broken sometime along the way..Thanks much for considering my request.

    21. Roseann D'Elia

Hi Marian, I loved your video….I am amazed that you love all the things I love…stools, baskets, ticking, baby dresses,,,I could go on…..BUT the bike basket was the highlight of this post!! I love it!

    25. Carole

Lucky are those that can attend Lucketts! I think your booth is going to be a crowd pleaser, and I am glad I got to see all the lovely things you have put together for the show. The only problem with giving us a peek is all the folks trying to prebuy your treasures.

Ironstone goes begging here too as do most dishes. My antique shop customers are still in the shabby chic mode. It’s a small town in the upper peninsula of Michigan, and ,admittedly, we are slow to catch trends. Iron ore mining has been the backbone employer for years and big buildings/factories are scarce, so there is very little architectural salvage items. Most antiques are things miners could order from catalogs like oak Hoosier cabinets and enamel topped tables. The population is low as it’s very rural/woodsy with very harsh winters.

Thanks for sharing. I eagerly look forward to each post to see what you have found.

    26. Robin Leach

I may have to figure out a way to come Luckett’s. It is my birthday, after all. I fear that once I arrive at your booth, I won’t ever want to leave. It’s all just so perfect, Marian. What an awesome job you have, and what a magnificent range of talents. And, really, where does all the energy come from? .you’re like the army…you get more done before breakfast than I do all day.
,SO Darn Happy for you! You’re living my dream. Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

    27. Donna Doble-Brown

I’m so EXCITED about your Lucketts booth, and I won’t even be there! If I didn’t have my daughter getting married in Seattle the next weekend, I swear I would make the trip this year!
You are doing an awesome job Marian! Love all your shopping choices . . .

    28. Breida@breidawithab.com

But! What does it say on that “sack” that you put out on the front of the table?? You showed just about EVERYthing except THAT!
I’m a real pushover for fabric with writing…there was something in your booth last year that I really regretted not buying…
      TELL ME WHAT IT SAYS!!
      🙂

    29. Sue Pagels

      Love the video!!!

    30. Deborah Peebles

I love all of your haul! Please please, pretty please, tell me where I could find the balls like you have at end end of your post. I have been looking for those everywhere! The cream colored ones. I even tried making one tonught!

      • marian

We made them by hot-gluing antique hemp fabric scraps to styrofoam balls.

    31. Hulya Demir

Everything looks beautiful as always. I use many different baskets around the house. I love their natural color and sometimes a bit washed color once fit in well too. I don’t think you need to tell us the price you bought them for Marian, as it is very different market everywhere.
      Have a lovely day,
      Huli

    32. Krista

Everything looks so beautiful! You have such a great eye for finding the sweetest things!

Fun video! Thanks for sharing :). Being on the West Coast, I didn’t think I’d ever get to the Lucketts Spring Market, but I have a daughter moving to Missouri, so visiting her will put me a lot closer 🙂
