I had a chance to finish the footboard and rails of the “Bavarian” style bed I’ve been working on for our guest bedroom. You can check out part 1 and part 2 to see how the bed got to this stage. I’m excited to get it set up in the guest room and take some pictures of it in natural lighting, but here are some I snapped in the workshop.
And to show you the process I used on this piece, Jeff and I made an antiquing wax tutorial…
Jeff was a busy guy today. Not only did he make the video, but he made great progress on the trim in the family room…
Tonight all of the boys were at Awana, so that’s my night to get a few extra hours of work in (or sometimes just enjoy a movie and a quiet house). Tonight, I filled and primed the trim work. It’s looking so good, but I can’t wait to see it caulked and painted! Ah, the impatience of a DIYer.
Tomorrow, I’m stepping away from the paintbrush and computer and meeting a dealer who’s been picking ironstone for me. We’ve been planning to meet for weeks, but it just hasn’t worked out, but tomorrow it’s on and I’m looking forward to some shopping!

oh wow…your painting techniques has changed..I didnt check your blog over 2 years now..got busy pregnancy and a baby but now I miss blogging and reading my favorite blogs…I love it…so beautiful
Flat out amazing what you can create! Do you guys ever sleep? I am wondering how you manage to get so much accomplished in one day? Truly inspiring and for sure gifted. The bed is so fun-I could just sit and gaze at it….love the colors!
I ditto Debbie Klausing’s thoughts. I’d love to see you blog on time management skills, as you seem to be able to pack so much into one day. I’m an empty nester with a 40+ hour job (kindergarten teacher), but despite spring breaks and summers, I still have a basement of unfinished projects. Help!
So much talent. Your greatest gift is your husband. He not only supports your interest and ideas of how things should look, he helps to create them with you. Talented, lucky and blessed gal.
Okay, let me just say this… You have done lots of pretty stuff, but this one has to be the best! If I were you I would never ever sell this! One day your boys and their wives will want this not just because it is beautiful, but because their mother painted it.
Kudos to you for your very professionally done video. You really do a nice job with the tutorial videos. The bed is awesome too, it reminds me of a castle I visited in Mariefred, Sweden many years ago. Can’t wait to see the bed all dressed in linens (as I’m sure you’ll have fabulous linens of some kind) and in the room!

I have a couple of antique Eastlake style headboards that I’ve thought about painting, but I just haven’t quite gotten the courage to do it. Your bed just might be the inspiration I need to go for it. (Now to conquer my fear of painting Victorian walnut. That’s a hard one. )
The bed turned out beautifully! The antique waxing did the trick for sure. Oh and now I’m trying to figure out if we (my husband really:) could do wainscoting in our house. I’m so inspired to try it. The only problem is, I want it to look exactly like Crawley house in Downton Abbey-all in a gorgeous blue! Shouldn’t be too hard right?! Ha! 🙂

I’m planning to do something very similar to my great room walls within this year, if everything works out according to plan…but I can’t help wondering if it would be easier to prime before attaching to the walls.

“Marion” is a boys name (think of Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox.) We named our little girl “Marian” after her grandmother, her great aunt, her great grandmother, and of course, Lady Marian of Nottingham.

THANK YOU!! For the tutorial on the antiquing wax! I have been using your wax – the clear – on projects, but I can never seem to get it right! I thought I was using a very light amount of wax on my buffet-turned-coffee-bar but still did not achieve what I considered a buffed smooth surface. Now I know I just either had too much or I didn’t work it enough. I’ve since started using the hemp oil and I love it way better! Nothing to really worry about, I just paint it on with a chip brush and let it dry. (I do wipe of extra if it looks a little heavy, but I usually don’t have to worry about it – kind of idiot proof if you ask me 😉 )
