Do you remember the linen tie-up shades I made for my studio in our Minnesota House? I made them to cover all of the windows in the sunroom, which we finished as my studio. It was amazing having all of that light coming through south-facing windows, but it would be very intense and even too much. These tie-up linen shades filtered the light and were adjustable.
My friends at Decor Steals loved the tie-up linen shades and asked if I could design some for them to sell to their customers and my blog readers. Well, yes! Here are a few things I love about these shades…
- Since they are hung on a tension rod, they can fit a variety of window sizes. You can squish them up to fit a smaller window or pair two or more together to fit a larger window.
- They can easily be lowered and tied up again to filter, not block the light. For this reason, they are great tie-up shades for light-lovers like me.
- They can fit in a variety of decor styles, especially if you adjust the way you style them.

The dining room in my 92 year old house gets full afternoon sun in a twelve foot wide wall of windows. Consequently, it gets very hot. I think these shades will help tremendously.
Such a timely post for me since I decided to finally (after 7 years) find sheers for my farmhouse windows. I’ve just ordered four. Do you have a recommendation on a specific tension rod? White or silver?
I just used white, but you can use a cafe curtain rod that is more decorative or if you want one mounted on the outside of the window.
I’ve had something similar in my living room for years. (25?)I used a crewel fabric. I just updated them with a large Buffalo check fabric. There are 8 windows so anything more on all the windows would be too much fabric in the room. I love the simplicity of this look. I don’t need them to block the sun. It’s just for looks. It’s a sweet, soft look.
Do you think that I could create these with linings? In the cold Northeast, we need to keep winter insulation in mind. Thank you!
I love these window coverings. I want to order some but the site says they can only be spot cleaned, which doesn’t work for me. Your blog post says they can be washed in the wash machine. I’m confused on which is right. Spot cleaning to me means always dusty, so I don’t know.
