Back in August, I spent an afternoon crafting or a “crafternoon” with Emily…
…and we made a herringbone cork board for her jewelry. (She’s such a cute, teeny-tiny thing, isn’t she?)
Well, last week she asked if she could come over again. This time, she wanted to make a place for her sunglasses out of some lace and a cheap frame. She wanted to paint the frame a minty color and I just happened to have just the shade in a new paint product I was testing out (I’m just full of secrets…) So, we painted and distressed the frame and then stapled some lace on the back. The lace Emily brought was a little shiny and wasn’t open enough for inserting sunglasses, so I went through my fabric stash. I found a perfect antique eyelet lace that was from the bottom of a petticoat.
And ta-da…
It was a quick, simple project and I think it turned out so cute. 
In Lucketts fair news, I started working on some things last week, including this French rocker (upholstering the back)…
…and I started painting some small pieces…
I also found some more furniture!! I know it seemed like I had a lot when I showed my stash, but I needed a lot more furniture. I was starting to sweat it a little bit.
I bought this amazing desk/vanity…
Oh…the legs, the details…
I’m actually keeping this one, but I’m selling something else out of my house to justify keeping something! I also bought a chest on chest…
…and three other dressers! I’m excited to start working on them…and a couple of them need a lot of work.
They’ve come to the right place.

Chest on chest….actual term, or just descriptive? I might be called small chest, if you know what I mean, actually and descriptively…..
Lol…yes, it’s an actual term, as the reader below said. It’s a highboy (tall) dresser that looks like on chest of drawers stacked on top of another.
A “Chest on Chest” is a furniture term used to describe a case piece usually used in the bedroom for holding clothing. As opposed to a “Chest of Drawers”, which is flush along the sides and front, a Chest on Chest literally looks like a small chest is sitting on top of a larger base chest. Chest on Chest is a technically correct term used in the furniture industry to describe a bedroom casegoods piece. Can you tell I spent 40 years in the furniture industry?
This stuff is going to look awesome! And the furniture you find to begin with looks to be in good repair usually! I tried my hand one day browsing and found broken down, smelly, expensive stuff–ugh! You are so talented–I wish I could buy straight from you some pieces for my home:) And stuff I would think has too much detail you highlight to perfection!! Can’t wait to see afters–PLEASE!!
Kristin, you are right on! Stuff I find even goodwill wont take! And their stuff is old icky smelly too. At least in our Goodwill! Marian where do you get these great pieces? I wouldn’t paint that gorgeous piece, but Marian probably will and it will look fantastic!
Such beautiful pieces, can’t wait to see some afters!! I started a chair makeover last month and got stuck when I got to reupholstering the back. I couldn’t reuse the cardboard type backing that had been there and I can’t seem to find the right sturdiness that still can bend with the curve of the seat to finish the job. Since you’re reupholstering the back of that beauty I though I’d ask if you had any advice for me 🙂 Hope you have a restful Sunday 🙂

Oh my! I love the minty green! It’s heavenly, so springy and just delightful. The sunglass holder was is super cutie and I can’t wait to see all the loveliness you are preparing for Luckett’s fair.

The vanity dresser is a beautiful piece. I hope you can salvage the burled wood sections along with the detailed moldings.

Crafternoon! I LOVE it! I always knew there was a term for what I did! Thanks! By the way, the furniture looks great! Can’t wait to see what you do to it! I’ve been looking for a piece to go in my dining room. I guess a sideboard with storage all the way to the floor as opposed to a buffet which has legs and not so much storage. Keeping my eyes open the “Miss Mustard Seed” way!

Love the chest on chest!!! I bought one recently ~ a hepplewhite style?? But I needed a “shorter” version so I removed the top section. Painted it ASCP Provence and LOVE IT! Any ideas on what to do with the top portion??

That is a beautiful piece of furniture. As much as I love painted furnitue, it would be very hard to paint over that beautifully grained wood! What a great find!
