Bathroom Mirror

After three attempts, we were finally able to hang our new bathroom mirror.  This thing was a beast and had to weigh at least 50 lbs.
This is what the bathroom looked like when we bought the house.  The mirror was way too small for the vanity and I hated the oak finish.  Several months ago, I purchased a vanity (the makeover was featured in my Friends Don’t Let Friends Do Crackle post) and it came with this huge mirror.  The pairing was obviously not original, so I kept the mirror for another project.
As you may have guessed from the title of my vanity post, the vanity and mirror had a horrific crackle finish on it.  The mirror’s frame was solid wood, so I stripped it down and stained it in my favorite dark walnut. You can find my furniture stripping tutorial here. I finished it off with a few coats of wipe on-poly in gloss.
The size of the mirror is perfect for the space, now.  (Sorry about the pictures…this bathroom has zero natural light and is small.)

The dark frame also compliments the cream, beige and brown color scheme.  Next up…paint and new hardware for the vanity.

  1. That mirror looks like it is made for that room! Love the use of the vintage kitchen scales in the bathroom. It adds such a funny accent.
I hope you got my email in good order?

  2. The mirror turned out great and it does look so much better than the old one. Love the vintage scale holding the bowl of potpourri too. I've got one like that – looks like I'm going to have to dig it out and use it for something similar. Thanks!

  3. I love the mirror, and the scale, I have one just like it collecting dust in my garage… I think I might just have to go grab that baby!

Also I LOVE your black door, do you have that throughout your house? If so how do you like it?

  4. Your color scheme is so restful. The scale and "presence" of the mirror is perfect. Last year I painted our basic oak bathroom vanities using an oil base paint. The finish is very durable but now there are joints in the doors separating causing cracked paint. Bummer, thought I had prepped better than that. Wonder if moisture contributed to the problem?

  5. So this is a random question…First, I love the makeover! Looks much better! Second…where do you find all your vintage/antique scales? I've been looking for one similar to that white ones for ages…can't find anywhere…not on craigslist either. How much did you pay for one like that? I LOVE it! Would you ever sell one in your Etsy store?
    Thanks!

  6. Good stuff! I'm always gun shy about purchasing items on the chance they can be rehabed and used soemtime. It's a weakness I know but I have faith I will overcome my sheppish approach in no time reading all your lovely posts. 😉

  7. I've been wanting to pull down the mirror in our hall bath since we moved in. The ugly huge square thing & the corners are all cracked. I want to replace it with a large framed mirror. I love the color of the stain you did. Beautiful!

PS. I LOVE the jar of seashells & the starfish on your plate…I might just have to do something similar in my hall bath!
