I have been flying through makeovers and have not stopped to take pictures of some of them…stupid, stupid, so I made sure I snapped a before picture of this stool.
This before picture is horrible! It was late at night and I couldn’t get the white balance right, but it makes the after look even better, right?
The stool was filthy, so I gave it a good scrub and allowed it to dry. I then stained the top with dark walnut and painted the base in Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams. I used a resist technique, so the paint would sand off and look “chippy.” A final coat of dark walnut stain rubbed over the paint furthered the weathered look. I brushed on a polycrylic to finish it off.
Ahhh…much better.
And now you actually notice the very cool wiring underneath.
This is going in my new booth space. The grand opening is this Saturday, so come on out if you can! (See my side bar for Wild Rose and Co’s address.) I’ll be officially moving into my space on Thursday and I can’t wait to share pictures and videos of that. The shop owner, Lynette, is going to bring me a caramel apple cider and keep me company. Sounds like a grand time to me.

Oh, I am a winner! Thank you, Miss Mustard Seed! I love your stool makeover. I too wondered what a resist technique was. It is photographed so beautifully too with the ironstone and antique linen. I'm looking forward to seeing photos of your new shop set-up. How exciting for you!
I love the rustic look of the stool! I'm also curious about the resist technique. Looking forward to photos of your new space! Very exciting!

I think it is great. I too would love to know more about the resistant technique.
I just love the way the wire is twisted together as if to hold it all together 🙂 and YES, you did a grand job with bringing it back to life 🙂
oh….this is one beautiful re-do. I was drawn to the paint just for the name, "sea salt". I could almost feel myself holding my breath to see how it turned out!!!!

Marian, I am so excited that I won a roll of Frog tape!!! We are in the process of re-doing our upstairs and that tape will come in handy. My husband has painted 3 rooms already and we still have our master and bath to do. On Friday we had new carpet put in. Thanks so much for hosting a great giveaway! Love & blessings from NC!
Don't you love stools with the wires? I always thought that they were just some jury-rigged repair, but yours looks like it was meant to be there. Am waiting with bated breath about the resist technique. I have a tall stool (no wires) I can try it on. Ann
That stool is incredible. Love it!!

I thought the "after" was the before and wondered why you'd mess with perfection… I should have known ;). I'm really excited for you Marian, I'd be there if I could.
I love it, Marian! I'm going to give it a try on an old stool I have…:) JP
That turned out just lovely!
I want to hear about your resist technique too. DD2 wants her kitchen cabinets painted and she has 4 dogs. I think it's a good idea!
