Now that I’ve had a few days to play with my new camera (the Nikon d800 for those who missed it), I’ve been playing around with my existing lenses to see what new lenses I want to purchase. I currently have five lenses – a Nikon 35mm f/2D, 50mm f/1.8, 60mm f/2.8 micro, 18-200mm and a Sigma 10-20mm wide angle zoom. All of these lenses have served me very well and I will continue to use them, but there’s one problem – only one of them, the 60mm micro, is an FX lens.
My previous camera, the d7000, is a DX camera, so I bought DX lenses. My new camera is an FX (full format) camera. What all of these letters mean is that all but one of my current lenses will not take advantage of my new FX camera body. (Here’s a clear explanation of FX vs. DX from someone who really knows what they’re talking about.) So, I bought 2 new-to-me FX lenses. Until they arrive, I wanted to try the camera with the one FX lens I have – the 60mm. (Is everyone still with me, here? Want me to throw out a few more numbers and letters and mm’s?)
Anyway, I needed to take a couple of new product pictures, so here are the results with the 60mm…

I’ve learned that the built-in shelf in the master bathroom is perfect for product shoots like this. Who knew?!
I also took the 60mm for a spin around my office, which I’m in the process of cleaning and organizing…again. I used a tripod and low ISO (100) for the product shots, but took the ones in my office by hand at an ISO of 3200. I usually won’t shoot that high, but thought I would test it out. What you get with a nicer camera body like this is the ability to shoot at a higher ISO (faster film speed) without it getting grainy. With my d7000, the shots started getting grainy above about 400-600.

…and this huge stack of antique hemp/grain sack fabric is to sell! I’ll be taking it to the Chapel Market and will put some in my online shop. When I finally open it. I know, I know. How long have I been yacking about the online shop?! Well, a long time, I know. I have stuff to sell. I know people want to buy it. Things just keep getting in the way of me actually opening the shop! What in the world is wrong with me? In fairness, I did actually open the shop a couple of months ago, but we were having some technical difficulties and I had to close it again. I then didn’t want to open it when I was about to do so much traveling. Now, my computer is being repaired and my “inventory” is a mess. So, I’m going to work on it and hopefully get it open in a week or two. Hopefully. No promises!
I do promise that I’m not going to bore you with a bunch of camera/photography posts. It’s just something new and exciting in my world, so hopefully it’s helpful, informative or at least moderately entertaining…
