This week seems to be all about me being in front of the camera. I’m making video tutorials for my milk paint line, videos for the enhanced e-book version of my book (coming out in November), AND I have a camera crew coming to my house tomorrow to do some filming for a special project. I’m still sporting the curly hair and it’s been a little unruly on camera, but I’m going with it! (Actually, I think you’ll have to wait for the next video to see the curls. I’m wearing pigtails in this one.) Anyway, it’s been a bit of a change for me to wear lipstick in my workshop.
So, in this video I share tips on mixing milk paint with a blender. I think one of the toughest things for people to get used to when using milk paint for the first time is the texture. When mixed by hand, especially the darker colors, it can be lumpy and watery. It all works out when it’s brushed on, but it takes some getting used to. To make the consistency smooth and creamy, mix it with a blender. I prefer to use an immersion blender, which is what I use in the video, but you can use a regular blender as well. (Just remember that it has to be for paint ONLY. Have a totally separate blender for food.)
In addition to making another video today, I painted two French chairs in Shutter Gray and a beautiful dresser in Boxwood. Oh my, I love that color. I can’t wait to finish the piece so I can reveal it. My husband and I also finished the trim in the kitchen, so I can show off my new tile! Woo hoo! Lots of fun stuff going on. Stay tuned…
